Low Cost, High Stoke | The YT Capra Core 1 - Tech Check
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лип 2024
- The YT Capra has been the Enduro bike in YT’s lineup - and perhaps their most renowned bike - for some time now, always representing great value but never lacking in performance. As the years have gone on, YT has pushed the performance of the Capra higher and higher, and these days their flagship models are undoubtedly amongst the top performers on the market. But, YT hasn’t forgotten about their value minded roots, and recently updated their entry level spec - the Capra Core 1 - which comes in at just $2,699. They say it “keeps the cost low but the stoke high”, and we have absolutely no reason to disagree thus far. We were lucky enough to get some time on board the bike and speak with Frank Dörr, Product Development Manager at YT to learn more, so let us talk you through the budget minded ripper that is the YT Capra Core 1.
Editor’s Note: Tech Check Features are made with the help of partnering brands to share the latest news and technology about products. These are not our official reviews as we don’t have enough time in the products to have thoroughly vetted them for recommendation. We look forward to putting a lot more miles in these products and will be reporting back with our honest and objective input in the near future.

Great color on this bike and the #1 bike id recommend to a budget minded shredder thats wants an enduro bike 👍
It looks even better in the flesh - slight sparkle to the paint when it hits the light. It's definitely a great budget minded shred rig!
@@TheLoamWolf I'm lucky enough to live by the YT Mill in San Clemente CA. Saw one person a couple weeks ago on one from first glance had no idea it was a yt core 1 looks 2x more expensive
It sure does, they've done a great job at making it look every bit as premium as their higher models.
“RTFM”… Love it 😆
Helped a friend shop for a “budget-friendly bike; his first new bike. Came down to this and the Specialized Status 160. If it wasn’t for the Status being on sale for $1000 off, this would’ve been the logical choice I think. Even with shipping the Capra is still cheaper than the retail price on Specialized’s least expensive enduro(ish) bike. And they have an almost identical spec.
I did buy a Specialized Carbon Comp for under 3k in Switzerland. Have it for two months now an ZERO complaints. :)
That's awesome. I am refining my decoy with a r.s. ultimate coil and putting the new damper and air spring in fork. Gotta try buttercup flavor.
Holy shit cool to see you at my local!! Cline is so sick!
I bought a Core 2 last year (before the spec upgrade) and have been pretty stoked. It is my secondary bike and use it for park and shuttle days. After a year on it a few gripes of mine include the cable routing around the BB-it's a little fussy and the rubber grommets are constantly popping out allowing for some rattling. The pivot bolts have come loose several times and it is now routine for me to check them before every ride. This is my first time with NX and it is total garbage IMO-the chain regularly gets rattled off the cassette and sits outboard between itself and the chainstay. The 170mm dropper spec on the XL is frustrating and should be 200mm. This is an expensive upgrade out of the box that improves the rider experience massively but YT buyers are likely on a tighter budget. The weight is...a lot. It's a park bike for me so not terribly concerned but damn. It's noticeable, especially with appropriate tire casings. I think the Core 4 with carbon wheels would be justifiable as a single-stable bike. The pedaling platform is phenomenal and the somewhat conservative sizing geo makes for a playful and nimble ride that would feel at home on lower speed trails and big mileage days. Very curious to see how these kinematics would feel with a coil.
Nice long term summary lol. I’m saving up for core3

I love this bike and was going to buy it but didn’t wanna wait the month for it but you guys are killing it with these videos dropping every day
Thank you! We’re trying 🤘🏼
@@TheLoamWolf nah you are doing it right that’s how it should be done
Great job on the review! Bike is a solid top contender in terms of performance & most bang for the money.
Thank you! It sure is, impressive work by YT for sure.
I oddered one yesterday. Can’t wait!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
got the black magic MX 2 weeks ago. 3 rides in. so far so good. but man, it's a hefty bike. Overall, yeah, solid bike. We'll see in the long run since summer's coming up here in SoCal and bike park season 🤘 and i got the bike in less than 2 weeks waiting time and plus 15% off. Solid! 🤙⚡️
Right on, thanks for sharing! Enjoy it 🤘🏼
Yea bought this bike in Blk really happy with it I’m not looking to race it just want something I can hit the bike park with and ride some local trails and not be outgunned and this bike is that
You can get the core 2 now for that price 🤙
Great review.loving your content!
Thank you very much!
Great insight, edit and riding!
Thank you very much!
Superb video, thank you so much.
Glad you liked it!
Fezzari LaSal 2.0 or YT Capra? Which is best overall?
Do you need to buy tire sealant separate?
I have the CAPRA core 1 MX : after the first 5 minutes, I go faster than my old dh bike! It's simple to set, great in bikepark, and also good to uphill. The Capra rulez!
Does the wheelset seem durable enough for a season at the bikepark
@@traildaddy1189 the wheels are strong... I use the bike in the rockgarden without problems.
Hey man, what do you think of the brakes so far? Also May i ask your height and frame size?
Is IT Tube or Tubeless when you get IT ?
I still wait for the next yt E-Bike, they sure take their time with it
They havent even released a new Jeffsy
We’re looking forward to seeing what they’ve got coming in the future!
@@TheLoamWolfhope we see same concept mid drive low cost alloy e bike
Would be great to see
i was actually going to buy it but was a little bit patient and then the core 2 was back in stock with also a discount and got it for the price of the core 1 a great deal this was in europee
Sounds like it worked out great!
Just bought the Uncaged 10 for $2449...less than $2700 after tax and delivery. I couldn't say no to a deal like that.
Hi everyone and Loam Wolf! I have a sizing question for me 168 cm height what would tou recommend S or M?
Is this bile good for trails ? Im in San Antonio, tx, and we dont have big hills or mountains, just bunpy trails and parks
It would be just fine for most trails. It wont be the fastest, most efficient pedaler being a 38lbs 170mm travel bike. That said, it will offer plenty room to grow and if you find yourself wanting to travel to bike parks, it will be very capable for tackling most trails.
Shock mm?
What size should i get, i am 182cm
Large most likely.
I am 5,8 should I go with medium or large frame? Any recommendations.
We'd likely suggest the medium, but it depends on your preferences and proportions. Go large if you've got a very long body (though you may struggle for seatpost height), or if you want a particularly stable bike. But the medium is likely to be the better option.
@@TheLoamWolf thank you for info
Interesting, some bike manufacturers are not trying to make 500mm reach on a large size bike
Nope! But YT does have an extra size in their range compared to many (XXL) so taller riders can still get a reach over 500mm if desired.
YT's sizing is a little weird. If you size everything down by one (XS-XL instead of S-XXL), then it's actually pretty close to what most would consider "standard" sizing.
Hi there, I’m 5’9/175.26cm, what size should I get? Thanks!
Size large sounds about right for you!
@@TheLoamWolf Thanks LoamWolf!
@@tabachoy54 Im same height (5.9) and I ride a Large Capra; fits very good.
@@norcalaquaticrealms6234 thank you for your response! I end up getting the niner wfo, it’s 40% off from Jenson USA.
I’m 5’8”. I had the same question - Medium or Large. Most likely Large for the Capra MX.
Is this better than the polygon t7?
We’d likely pick this over that T7. But the polygon is a fun bike.
@@TheLoamWolf thanks for reply. How do you think it compres to the T8. I’m conflicted and both cost the same at this moment
Hi buddy, great video. Just wondering if you would recommend a size XL or XXL for me, I’m 6’2 with a 6’6 wingspan. Cheers
That will depend on your riding style and local trails. I (Robert) am also 6’2” tall but ride a size L in this video, though the XL is my preference. That said, the XXL is not crazy big, so you may still enjoy it on less tight, higher speed trails. I’d lean towards recommending the XL though personally.
@@TheLoamWolf Cheers Robert
@@kayakfishingaustralia1261 Hey, I’ve got almost the same measurements as you and I’m on the fence about getting an XL or XXL. Which size did you end up getting. Really curious. Been staring at the Core 1 and Core 2 for a few weeks now but scared to pull the trigger on the purchase. Surprisingly difficult to find reviews and input for taller riders right at that spot between sizes.
Weight?
37lbs as tested.
non of u know about the radon jab 10.0? Fox Perf. Elite Setup + Carbon Frame + Shimano XT for only 2700€???????
How tall are you?
6’2” / 189cm - size large is a little small but still rideable. XL is preferred
This looks like a great bike, however as an Australian, YT's pricing absolutely sucks, especially by direct-to-consumer standards. In the US this competes very nicely the Canyon Torque AL5 (both geo and price).
The Canyon is slightly higher spec (Select+ shock instead of Select R, amd Deore instead of NX), but you pay an extra $300 for the privilege ($2.7K vs. $3K), so they're very close.
In Australia, the Torque AL 5 retails for $4.1K, which is very good for the spec here. The Capra Core 1, on the other hand, is $5.6K. That's only a couple hundred less than the Torque CF 7 (carbon frame, GX groupset, Zeb Select+ with Charger 2.1 damper), and the exact same price as the Giant Reign 1 (SLX groupset and Fox Perf. Elite suspension), so I don't really see the point of buying one down here.
Which is a shame, because as an Aussie it'd be awesome to ride Jack Moir's bike, but I can't justify that extra outlay over a Canyon without also getting the LBS support that spending the extra for Specialized, Trek or Giant would get me.
JUST 2699 dollars
This must be a hard review to do after riding e-bikes all day. 😳
Not at all! Analogue bikes still rock.
I believe price on the core 1 is around 2700$ such a steal
Yep, $2,699! Pretty killer value.
@@TheLoamWolf probably best bang for you buck out there
It’s 2000 now
Bargain....Ha!
How harsh is the suspesion? And can the zeb be upgraded with the charger 3 and the rear shock added with the climb switch and compression dial?
Not harsh at all we'd say! Yes you can upgrade the fork damper, but the rear shock is more tricky - we believe it'd be more efficient to swap the whole unit.
Front damper is about 350$ and you could put a Marzocchi coil under n the rear for about the same and have a shredder of a bike for about 700$ upgrade. It’s what I did on my decoy core 2
@@brianshea4906 at that point why wouldnt you just buy a higher spec
@@southpawlibranine3511because you wouldn’t be stuck with whatever the higher spec parts are. You choose what you want. Also, you may not have the money right away and want to get out there or like this color scheme only offered on the core 1.
