My adorable dad would make a list of essays or/and required reading lists and us kids could choose as many or as few as we wanted but what we got for each one was school clothes money… I always thought it was so great that my dyslexic, physical laborer dad thought to do this for us. ❤️

How very sweet. My dad left school in the 5th grade and he never read to us kids. I would beg but he would fall asleep before reading yet thanks to my mom I love reading. I donate books to our local library in memory of my grandmother and great aunt ( they were teachers ), and my mom and dad

I have been adding vinegar to my clothes for a couple of years now! I worked in a restaurant for a decade and nothing would get that kitchen smell out, and my dad is a maintenance man his clothes always wreaked. Now I add about a half a cup to every load works wonderful. Also if you have the fuzzy blanket add a full cup! It helps bring that softness back

Yes! I've been using vinegar in my rinse for years and years. No stinky towels (even when they languish overnight in the washer), no stinky workout clothes, and no stinky pet stuff. And it's replaced my fabric softener (plus some dryer balls). And much less hazardous than miscalculation bleach. And it helps rinse all the soap out of the clothes so they're not crunchy even when I have to line dry.

I'm a Children's Librarian! I usually get gift cards donated to our library for things like ice cream, free french fries, etc from local restaurants and businesses to give out as Summer Reading incentives. Since your kids are a bit older I think something similar would work really well!

So fun that you mentioned a summer reading program for your kiddos. I did the same when I had a little, and we decorated our walls with progress. One year I cut a tree shape from construction paper, and several leaf shapes, and with every 25 pages read, a new leaf was added to the tree. Completed books were shown by adding birds and butterflies, with the title, author and date completed. The wall was covered by the time school started that fall. Rewards varied, day trip to the zoo, picnic dinners at the park, lazy days at the beach, things that we enjoyed but didn’t always fit into our busy lives.

This summer we are doing a family camping and biking and hiking trip. We live California and never really did any of this here. We did summer reading when i was little. My Dad would give us the control over stuff in house for finishing our summer books. My mom would buy us special things we really wanted like for me one summer I wanted this butterfly necklace from this antique shop in town. I was saving up to buy it. When I finished my last book she took me out and give me the 18 dollars I needed to purchase the necklace. I still have it today. Make memories with your baby's. Great video

Hey Christine! Insted of bleach you can also use white vinegar, which removes smells and softens your clothes too. I promise, they will NOT smell like vinegar, they will have the smell of your detergent and will be just as soft as if you used regular softener. Its a 2 in 1, and it's very very cheap. I use it to remove every bad smell. Tobaco, stinky socks, workout clothes, you name it! You put it in the same slot as you usually put your softener, and you can use as much as you'd like because it doesnt damage clothes :)

Girl I do the bleach thing! Learned it from my mother in law. She recommended that I put a tablespoon of bleach in every load because my husband’s workout clothes and my little kids’ clothes were like permanently stinky (especially when you have babies and toddlers in diapers- shorts can sometimes tend to maintain a poopy smell even if you change them right away). It works amazing. People think you’re a nut when you recommend it to them 😅

When I was a kid we used to study a different country or culture each month. We would read books based there, study about the country, watch movies about there and then have a feast based on common foods from the area. My single mom didn't have a lot of opportunity for world travel but she really wanted to so this is one of the ways we traveled the world.

This summer will be full of adventures for myself and my 2 teens. We always take road trips through the summer, their favorite places to visit are "haunted" roads, cemeteries. ( it's a good thing I don't scare easy. Lol). We are also driving to Pigeon forge Tennessee with my best friend and her teenage daughter. ( our husbands are staying home to take of our families pets). Really looking forward to this trip. My kids run a free little library and the kids in the neighborhood love coming and getting books. It's also a great way to get my kids involved in community activities. Hope everyone has a great summer and enjoys themselves.

For your famiky members who have troubles with milk out if the jug but not particularly the cheeses, yogurts, or commercial ice cream - Try cooked milks and milk products. Cooked vanilla or also egg custard pudding, from scratch or home made, is a good one to test the cooked milk theory. It is easy to eat a volume of it (hot, warm, or chilled) and has few additional ingredients.

My local library did Starbucks cards years ago. They even let adults participate one year. It was awesome! I'm sure it cost a pretty penny and that's why it was only one year. School clothes upgrades seems like a good incentive for your own kids. For instance, if you usually just get them costco hoodies, but they really want a "cool" one, they could earn the upgrade by completing the reading challenge.

When I was 8 we moved to Oregon where we have enjoyed much warmer weather. This year we have had temperatures in March and April in the '80s and in May we have had snow our waterfall for the year in the rogue River basin is officially 103% this year which we have got most of just this month and a little bit last month. We can go years without snowfall on the rogue valley floor so to have it in May is really bizarre.

Having a bit of heat wave in Quebec low 90F back to seasonal temps by next week. We get along well, so there's not too much head-butting.
But yeah, as far as having my veggies around, if I don't prep them, they just sit in the fridge and go bad.
If I prep and/or properly store them...we either go through them quicker or if I need them to last, they will.
Celery, wrap the entire stalk in heavy duty foil, remove the plastic first, but wrap it up and it will last two weeks (or more, depending on the temp of your fridge - Also works for green onions too!). Bell peppers, if for snacking - yep, I cut'm up and put in a food storage box. If I want to cook with them, I've taken to wrapping them individually in plastic wrap. I know, sounds crazy but trust me, they really last a LOT longer in the fridge this way! The same goes for cucumbers and nearly all citrus!
I learned this from another YT'r, an Orthodox Jewish mom...she's amazing!
Between her, you and a few others, my son and I have been eating WAY more veggies and less meat. I love it!

Our eggs skyrocketed for Easter then adding a localish case of bird flu. They are back to heading down again. I am inspired by your fruit and veggie prep though because I usually only do that for hubbies lunch then do my daughter and I when we eat, I think we might be more effective if I do it all at once. You can have our weather, but it's been a bit strange too. It's been in the 90s for 3 days here in central Ohio

I have a a nice hack for food storage. If you use Glass containers instead of plastic the food will last days longer, if needed. I know glass if more expensive for sure but in the long run it will save.

Texas Panhandle weather caused a late start on our garden. Had overnight lows in the 30s and 40s up until last week. Now we are having highs in the 80s and 90s, so it feels like we just skipped spring.

I love the book report idea. I used to pick up all kinds of books at goodwill. My kids would go with me and get the ones that interested them. By the time they were in maybe 4th grade, give or take a year, they were all on college level reading. After they told us about the books, we would all research things to do related to the subject. Often times we would take a field trip, if that was undoable, we would find a movie related to the book (age appropriate, of course) and watch together. The excitement was astounding. We even built cards for a trivia pursuit game night surrounded with each one's book as some of the questions. Oh how much fun, we all learned about not only each other, but each other's passion inspiring each of us. Please share what you decide to do. I can't tell you how many nature hikes and picnics we went on exploring and photographing every single thing we could find based on each one's love. We still have some of our favorite photos as our focus of each area of our room. When you read, you open a whole new world.

Used to use a cap of bleach in a gallon of water to disinfect surfaces like tables and counters, when I worked at a restaurant in the late 90s early 2000s. This was before concentrated bleach.

Where I grew up in Clearwater Florida they would do something called Reading with the Rays (I think they still do it) and if you read a certain amount you would get free tickets to the Rays! I think going to a sports game could be a fun reward 😊 I also loved roller and ice skating as a kid, as well as bowling. Very affordable, gets energy out, and lots of fun!

My son (4) is staying home with me and we are planning on GiGi (husbands mom) days every week and going to see my parents and going to the pool, we have season passes to a theme park in our state. I can’t wait! One more week until summer 🥰

We reached 94* this past Wednesday, today is in the high 60's and a chance of thunderstorms. This summer we are working on organizing the garage, building a ramp to our shed, organizing the attic🥵. After all that, then I don't know what we will do, maybe stick close to home, we live near a great state park and it's packed with things to do, swimming, hiking, trails, horseback riding, mini golf ect..

It has been a cold spring. Less than a month ago we got 30 inches of snow. WinCo has their peppers at $.88 regardless of the color. My two still at home have colds. They are alive, I have been cleaning the kitchen up after them (which I never do) and they are eating pretty light. Haven't actually seen them in 3 days though.

If I prep the veggies in bowls like you did it make making salads so much easier on all, and my husband will actually make o e for a meal if I’m not there to help him when he needs to eat. Plans for this summer is getting my daughter ready to move to college 3 hours away from us.

Yes! Sooo ready for the kids to be home. But new this summer- one has a license. And a job. So he will basically wander in and out, I think. No big plans aside from a week of horseback riding camp for my daughter, who has ridden almost 2 years. And we are on the hunt to add a mid-sized male dog to the family to join our two little female dogs. One is older and slower so the younger, energetic one could really use a buddy more her speed. Don't want a puppy, haven't found the right fit yet.
