When the new Evo SLS came into the office I knew I needed to find out more about this all round kite. Not only because I heard many people raving about it but also because I had no clue about the difference between the normal Evo, the Evo SLS and the Evo Dlab.
Initially I thought it was just a price difference in quality but in reality it turns out that they’re quite different kites aimed at a different target group. Whereas the Evo is more for beginners, and the Evo SLS is more high-performance catering to those intermediated kiters that love an easy kite for almost all disciplines. The Evo Dlab is the most advanced in the range with ultra tight and precise performance. Of course there is the price difference, mostly due to the use of more expensive materials and a more complex construction.
I had flown the Evo Dlab before but never the Evo SLS… so I rang Lasse to pick his brain about it and to take the 2023 and the new 2024 for a spin. At the office we unpacked both kites to see if we could spot any differences already. As the kites look pretty similar there were definitely some differences. The 2024 model has a bit higher aspect ratio, which increases the lift and jumping characteristics. Also we found quite a difference in the bridle lengths which can change the whole performance. Time to take them for a spin to compare the two.
We chose the Zandmotor as our spot for the day, with a cold Northerly wind blowing around 25 knots it was perfect to fly our 10m. I rode the 2023 model first and was blown away by the ease of use of this kite. It was steering pretty light and easy, looping fast and handling the gusts very nicely. Then jumping on the 2024 model I felt it was a little less tight on the loops but easier for jumping and catching hangtime. Still a smooth heliloop and kiteloop but not as easy as the 2023 model. Lasse and I both felt we were jumping higher and longer on the new one… and I think the Duotone design team tried to really make this kite for the intermediate kiter who mostly freerides and jumps. Still suitable for wave riding and foiling too, but I felt that was a bit easier on the 2023 model. All in all, great kites to fly.

Sweet!
I like the direction the account is taking!
Good to have Ruben onboard!
Thank you... LFG. - Ruben
Great interview and review!
Excellent review and video!
Greate review guys
I would love to see comparison in terms of unhooked performance
Nice format
Nice one!
Hi, could you make a video on thr positioning/ stance for straps on twintip boards
Firee🔥🔥
sorry, guys, but i like orbit so much more than evo :) but i tested 7, 8, 9 m2, not 10 :)
for jumps and looping. didn't try the dlab though
The Orbit has a bit of a different feel. Personal preference and what you're used to at the end of the day right. I tried the Evo Dlab 13m and had such a blast on it... super easy and high performing kite. Poahhh.
I would LOVE to see this comparison for the Neo. I can’t find any comparison with 2023 versus 2024 anywhere…
I don't ride waves (yet).... but I can see who can review it for me. - Ruben
@@Kitemana I would be stoked to see that. Duotone says the new Neo is faster turning with more square wing tips and has a shorter depower stroke. It would be great to see if this is more marketing or actually the case.
7:23 - priceless 😅🤣
🔥🔥🔥
Does a kite get more responsive because it’s stiffer, or slower because it doesn’t want to flex as much, when you pump it up more?
Yeah good point, when it's softer it flexes better so it turns 'softer/better'? But if it's really windy it might lose a bit of profile so better to pump it harder. Find the balance. :-) - Ruben
7psi😂😂. It won't perform as well as a harder kite
@@Kitemana Thanks, Ruben!
Whats about vantage Kites?
Yeah, what about them? - Ruben
@@KitemanaI've had orbit, rebel sls, vulture gen3 and vulture gen4 is litteraly the best kite I've ever had
I prefer the maneuverability. Already have the rebel for big air free ride. I wish they would just leave it alone
2023 model is still there and available if you like. With time, comes change. :-)
It's impossible that kites better and faster every year.
I'm pretty sure they pumped those kites to 10psi 😂 like you should
I pumped to 8/9 PSI... I like it hard. But interesting the recommended PSI is lower, right? - Ruben
It's for warranty purposes
I doubt that the team riders in 30 to 40 knots pump them to 7psi
I guess they rather had to do some changes to the old model because the 2024 model was not designed by Ralf anymore. Might be worth mentioning that the designer had changed…
Duotone design team taking over indeed... Ralf in his own factory.
Some changes to make the Marketing happy. unimportant.
Why change a winning design too much? - Ruben
SLS, stronger? Bahahahahahahaha! I'm going to put Ferrari sticker on my Chevy and pretend like it's faster.
Super powers!
Your gear is expensive brother. If won’t make adaptations you will review the same evo bridals moved an inch back to 23 setup in 25. Good luck
You pay the price for the kite you choose. We have something for every budget, don't worry. - Ruben
Sponsored by Duotone
I am independent, and it was great to hear Lasse's knowledge and experience about the product. Together we found out more than I would've alone... what else would you like to hear/see? - Ruben
they sell everything :) but it is so nice to see such comparisons 👍👍👍
