Brown trousers moment when the campervan went past, was thinking wait for the crack sound as it drives over your bar

Nice video, Personally if I can share my technique I’ve been always standing at the pigtails side because I can see exactly how many millimetres are the difference and then I usually do a double knot technique on the connections to be able to get the perfect length. Seeing if there are hanging while holding the bar won’t give you that same precision . First measuring the front lines to see any difference between them then same things on the back line by putting the two connections knots at the bar next to each other. Then you can check the difference between back and front. But never stretch the line it will affect there strength on the long term.

Do you wash your bar with your lines rolled up or your lines free?

  • @nederlandkite

    Nice one marijn!
    Few mistakes here though:
    - attach the leash without the pigtails or just behind the pigtails. Pigtails should never be included when checking lines.
    - lines cannot be yanked to become equal again. Loading the lines differently will only work for 1 or 2 sessions.
    - lines stretch during and shrink after each session so the result would be unequal lines again.
    FEW TIPS
reset your lines to just above the qr 1 or max 2cm. The new bar is set a bit too loose as the fibers of the lines will tighten on first use.
Reset a new bar after 5-10 sessions to have the perfect setup.
And go to the line smith ;)

Of course lines can be stretched back to (closer) original length and it doesn't matter if you yank or pull or whatever. All lines are pre-stretched and this is just repeating that essential procedure.
Nothing is permanent and you have to do it again when your lines become uneven. To adjust by moving knots is worse because then your lines are not pre-stretched anymore so they will change their length during use, even in short time if there is enough load. Then you may lose your tune on the water.
Leash is not very smart way to attach lines to post because it is flexible. You need strong and stiff connection for stretching lines and you can use lot of force - no way you can break decent line by pulling it. Ok, if you are big guy and yank it like crazy line may snap but then you know what is too much.
I don't see why pigtails couldn't be included in line check, no big deal. But this guy used loops wrong, you shouldn't attach it so that pull is trying to split the loop.
1--2cm here or there doesn't mean anything and if bar (and kite) is new power route (incl. chk loop, depowerline, trimmer, connector, front lines, (kite bridle)) will give in a bit after first sessions. However this can be compensated using the trimmer and usually this is so small user don't notice it.
When stretching lines you don't hold the chicken loop, just pull the bar. Center lines don't need stretching anyway unless there is difference in between them.

Hey Gilion! Thanks for the extra feedback!
      - Whenever you are the first owner of a bar and bought it new, you can always measure from behind the pigtails. However I have seen kiters ride with a bar with uneven pigtails since they or the previous user changed them it can be useful to check if that is correct. Pigtails do not stretch or shrink so yes they can technically be excluded in testing you bar but I like it as an extra reassurance to make sure the lines are all good. For my own bar I know how it's setup, but when I check someone else's bar I also check the pigtails
      - For my own experience, pulling on the line would for me for about 10 sessions. I guess still all lines are different and everyone might have a different experience. In any case, unequal lines are best solved in the leader lines or changing the pig tails.
      - This is also depending on the elongation of the used lines. My experiences with the North lines has so far been really good with minimal differences after heavy use.

@@spacexkitesurfing3634 agreed with the pigtails, I like to include them in the stretching process even though she don't strecht nor shrink.

Thanks for the tips guys. What if the steering lines are still way too short with respect to the center lines after attaching to the last knot in the leader line? What’d you recommend? 🤘🏼

      Change the picktails

    • @bekanav
      @bekanav 20 днів тому

Main or proper fix for too short back lines is to stretch them back. I've seen closer to 20cm back line shrinkage in 22m line set. So stretch it back and only then adjust using leader knots etc if necessary, if you can't get it all fixed by force
If line set has been equal there is no reason why it can't be made equal again by stretching.

Chew open the other knots, that will give like 5 cm extra

Not sure if the stretching back a steering line is a myth or not, spoke to many people about it, all very convince it either works or doesn’t. Im a big believer in the fact that is doesn’t work, maybe for one session, but that’s it.

Yes, mainly due to salt water it shrinks and yes, mainly due to salt (if not washed out properly) pulling on the rear line doesn't help much if at all.

@@mathesotto2987 i think it’s mainly small grains of sand that get into the line. But I am pretty sure that pulling with 50kg of force will not permanently stretch a shrunken line.

Shame on you! Learn “how to check ur bar by IKO”! And start to do it properly. “Grab bar by one hand and keep another at chicken loop” - sounds unprofessional
