- We invited one of our favorite performers, Nick Semrad, back to show us what kind of sounds can be coaxed out of the brand new Take 5 analog polyphonic synthesizer from Sequential.
Nick shows off some stunning sound design from his own personal patch library, built exclusively for the Take 5, showcasing the extremely versatile functionality of this synthesizer.

Sequential should basically make this their main demo video. Unbelievable playing
came for the synth, stayed for the amazing chord progressions
Me too !
If this guy made a lo-fi sci-fi album, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

TAKE 5 will be a classic. Ignore the haters and trolls. This will be used by bands for the next several decades. I just purchased one for my death metal polka band.
Synthpunk
hell yeah
Nah, no true T5 haters, IMO. Just chatter. Everyone know this is a beast of a synth. Killer runt hrough as always by Mr. Semrod.
thats a little hyperbolic to say, its still an expensive synth if you are a poor musician.
@@Leviathan-mj8gi couldnt be more wrong. i had a rev2 and i am not missing the voices one bit. the vco sound on the Take-5 is far far better than the rev2, and i love the rev2. The effects are so much better, the filter is incredible and hands down beats the rev2 filter. the overdrive,, the fm, just the core sound blows the rev2 away. I urge you to try the take-5. it sounds nothing like the rev2 and you arent going to miss the voices or the modulation. also, a minor thing but the effects on the rev2 are essentially unusable. on the take-5, they are an incredible sound design tool that fit the extremely rich versatile sound perfectly
Always smooth with Nick "tasty chops" Semrad. Take 5 is a beast.
Agree
Very cool demo of the Sequential Take 5!
I would LOVE a Sequential Take 10!!!
Personally, I'd love to see a firmware update with a paraphonic mode option making the Take 5 into a 10 voice paraphonic synth. I think that would be really unique.
@@EverettDudgeon138 Damn that would be a good idea!
@@joshpeters1663 It won't happen sadly. I suggested it on the Sequential forum and within two posts the whole thread got derailed.
Shame, I really love those 70s string machine type sounds from the Pro 3, it would be awesome to do that with the Take 5 with 10 voices!
Thats a million dollar idea right there man, I’d buy a take 10 in a heartbeat.
Pro 3 and Take 5 are modern day demonstrations of the genius that was Dave Smith. Now if we could please have a polyphonic Pro 3. But we have seen nothing new since the Focusrite acquisition and somehow I feel we never will.
Made it truly sound other worldy which is what I like.... fantastic demo!!!!
Awesome demo. Sounds so warm
It is November 2023 as I comment. I think I only learned about Take Five near the beginning of this calendar year. It’s been 3 1/2 years since my last synthesizer purchase. I’ve been trying to put the brakes on getting any more. If I do, it’s an inclination to get this one. Even if I could afford the Prophet 10, there is something about Take Five that I find way more appealing.
Probably the most underrated / reasonably priced synth out there. Yeah, Deckards Dream and the new OB-X8 are fire, but Take 5 is great for the price.
Great video in every way.
love that sweet tone in intro
Man this thing sounds so good
That intro patch sounded beautiful.
Wow, dude's got some great chops!
hoooooooooo Nick that 2nd patch, yes.
Yeah Nick! You da man!
I feel like this synth has such great modern sounds. Not sure what it is about the filters but I love mine. Paired with a moog subsequent 37 for more fat bass
Wow that’s super amazing 🔥🎹🔥
Finally! A demo video that really pulls the best patches & sounds outta this particular board. Been really wanting to see how this measures up to the great prophet 6 and after toying with it in Guitar Center recently to me seeing this video, I'm sold. Thank you 🙏🏾
Nice demo, Nick!
Thanks for your filter demo and other contributions; I enjoy your sound design work. Please do patches for this if you can.
@@bustincircuits7701 Thanks bud! Will be doing some sounds for Take 5. Currently doing some testing/analysis of vintage knob algorithm.
@@CreativeSpiral Amazing! Looking forward to it 🙂
Such beautiful playing , I especially enjoyed the first 3 sounds that you used for those amazing sounds; did you make them , and I would really like to get my hands on them !
I just finished this pack….it’s available on my website www.nicholastsemrad.com/shop :-)
I'd give my right synth to be able to play like that.
The machine shines under your fingers. Congrats!
Beautiful playing !
4:15 incredible mono playing. just a great example of the sound.
Really drawn to this synth. Struggling to decide whether to get this or the TEO5
Nick is the best ❤
Magnificent sounds.
yes! yes! yes!
Tasty indeed. Ordered.
Dyamm bro .. great hands .. great sounds .. ..I was on the edge of buying it .. but I think you just sold a truck load of these with this killer demo ..
3:40 if i didn’t see the video, i would have thought its modular synth or arp or sth. Dudes better than machines 😂👍🏽
4:15 love it :)
Don‘t judge a book by its cover, this synth looks unspectacular, but it‘s imho the best Prophet of all time.
Damn he’s got groove
how did you make that "MiniMatrixHorns" patch? mind sharing that one? sounds incredible.
i am in love with this synth, by the way. anyone considering it, pull the trigger. you will absolutely not regret it. I've tried many other polysynths (analogue & digital/hybrid) and nothing is even close. never connected with a synth like this before. it's unreal
Great music good brother!
so nice !!! is it possible to make 80s punchy bass sound, with fast attack ? How does it compare with ob 6 , hesitating between this and ob 6 .....Thx
Is that a high noise floor?
Yawl, yawl, yawl, yawl, yawl. What does boat rigging have to do with this synth? Seriously, I think this video helped me make up my mind. I'm definitely ordering a Take 5 now.
This reminds a lot of the synth engine of the Prophet X
most important question...Where did Nick get his shirt?
Intro sounds a little like 'Head Over Heels' by ABBA.
Blip sound could be its own track
Are these sound presets for sale?
All synths are "beasts" Where's the beauty? Anyway i just decided to buy this :)
show us the beauty ;)
Ok nick, 🔥🥵
dunno...but sounds like the digital Fx are always enabled...theres a "wall" in the tone of this synth. does it have pure analoge singal path?
This or a prophet 08 rev 2?
I can’t find the patches in your website anymore …
Nick's website ?
@@PerfectCircuit nope … not for the take 5 … strange he
verb? is there a noun pot?
Beast??
Ohhhhhh s$&t
Great chops. I’d have preferred a bit more patch exploration and not so much player technique demo of this great synth
I heard somebody b****g about the filters ? To me this sounds pretty nice ! :-)
"the filters are based on : not the actual filters" ?
Anybody ?
Love how someone actually compains about a synth's filters by hearing it on youtube, lol. Take 5 sounds amazing. I spent a month with it early this summer and I can attest to it's filter prowress. Gotta' trust me on that one.
@@HustonSingletary Nice :-)
Air smacked that B*****😵
50$ for the patch set! No thanks
Find a better job
@@xfghffhfg for 50$, there's a ton of better things to buy
@@JaguarPanda so you saying you cheap?
@@xfghffhfg I'm saying most of the patches on the internet are priced 15/20$, if you pay 50 instead, you're a sucker.
@@JaguarPanda So all packages should cost the same, no matter they are completely different, made by different people with different skills,
no matter how it sounds?
Do all t-shirts cost the same? no matter the look?
I consider myself lucky to find these presets and have the chance to own them for as little as 50$.
And I say that if you consider the value of money more than the value of things you can actually use, enjoy and love, You focus on the wrong things, money is a way not a means, you're a sucker of capitalism.
