I was always tought to feed a rope into the seal all the way around with wd40 then pull the rope as you push the windscreen from inside. More of a 2 man job but works well and no need to cut the seal 👍
I think your method is the correct one (as long as the seal is salvageable). For me I'm doing a lot of this for the first time and that's why some of the methods are what they are so to speak :)
Something else that will really knock out some kilos is the hole 🕳️ saw route. In the right areas it doesn't lose any strength. In many cases you actually gain strength. FEA (material analysis) shows some really funky things when running millions of sims in algorithms. Literally holes everywhere for the strongest components with the load being directed. Seems odd but a hole and a dimple die is much stronger than a solid flat surface. There's a guy that went crazy on the late brake show, lightest 911.
