Oh yeah that great scene where the main character overcomes obstacles during the climax of the movie through a series of incidents based on pure, dumb luck and deus ex machina. Just love those movies where every protagonist is an idiot with no fucking clue what's going on and they win by chance. Great writing, that.

I've never seen my dad so hyped for a game before, he's get nostalgia about X-Wing vs. Tie fighter and he never thought he'd see a game like that again. He's bought a flight stick and everything to be ready for this and I can't wait to play it with him.

I love that this game is only first person. I’m tired of being forced to use 3rd for a competitive advantage
In battlefront 2 starfighter assault, I always fly first person, and I've never felt disadvantaged. There was a bit of a learning curve, sure, but I got used to it.

Kai Sutherland can you explain further? I went back and forth between third and first and something always seemed off about first but i couldn’t put my finger on it.
Patrick Foster the most obvious parts of the disadvantage would be that you have less field of view which equals less special awareness of enemies and your surroundings. First person is also hard to aim because you can’t perfectly see your target unless they are right in your crosshairs.
Thunder well yes, FOV is obvious. I was talking about more technical aspects. Maybe i’m dumb but it wasn’t until just now i realized you could turn off horizontal lock, which makes 1st person a lot different.
Folks who are good at PvP in Elite Dangerous will dominate at this game.
Thats what I'm thinking now as well.

I think those who played X-Wing vs Tie Fighter will have an edge, they're more used to combat without aim assist like on certain weapons in Elite Dangerous.
Re-routing power and shield management was one of the most satisfying things in X-Wing. Glad to see it make a return!
We need a convoy raid mode: disable enemy transports, and protect a boarding party/raider vessel until it can extract an objective and escape.
It makes perfect sense in SW, and it will help flesh out the lack of game modes
A PVE survival mode would be interesting as well. Some setting like protecting a disabled carrier ship as it tries to repair and bring itself back online as waves of enemies come attack.

@@geekmansegraves PVE modes should have unique non-faction related ships too. Maybe retrofitted, repainted Clone Wars ships or Bounty Hunter ships.

Can't believe no reviewing this has ever played X-Wing or TIE Fighter. Those are literally some of the best flight sims of all time, and clearly what this is based off of.
Well, that's probably because most people that played Xwing or Tie see this and realize it's not what we have been wanting for nearly 30 years. It appears to be the closest that we've gotten (besides Star Wars Galaxies Jump to Lightspeed expansion) though.

Agreed. At the very least it should be 10v10 but I feel like it should have more objectives and be something crazy like a 20v20 or even 50v50.
True although I'm assuming the complexity balances out the low person lobbies. Multiplayer games like siege right now for example have 5v5 because of the emphasis on tactics. It's easier to work as a coordinated team, especially for randoms, when the team has less people. The game looks more hardcore than I expected, still cool tho.
Who knows, perhaps there will be a bigger game mode, where tactics etc. will perhaps not be that important and where more player can play enjoyably together

Yeah the dogfights aren't good. The best players hide against an object not even flying, using the ship as a turret and just kill everyone.
All those hours I put into the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games as a kid are finally going to pay off!

Funnily enough, on Xbox at least the flight is pretty similar, but a bit smoother and with more systems. I started trying it a week or two ago, so it inadvertently helped me get a jump start on being a decent pilot in Squadrons.

This is a straight-up remake of the early 90s 486 PC games “X-Wing” and “X-Wing vs Tie Fighter”, with the addition of multiplayer, currency, & loadouts. Those of us who loved that game have been waiting 25 years for a remake. All the cockpit controls are exactly the same. Very excited.

Keith Simpson might get larger gamemodes if the playerbase remains large enough is what i’m assuming. I think they dont want this to turn into a sort of Planetside Arena where it dies quickly cause of long wait times.

Such great memories of playing XW v TF with a Joystick back in the day... the gameplay mechanics like Targeting / Tracking and the Ship Systems seem near identical.

@@luckysix1015 Its not that they can't work together its just that they are not willing or don't feel the need to. The real saying is the more people you have in the game, the less individual skill and coordination matters.

I hope they bring in progressive damage, like how in X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, for example, as your hull takes damage certain systems (targeting, weapons, etc) will get knocked out and visibly trashed within your cockpit.

You guys should check out Il-2 Battle of Stalingrad (or any of the other 3 stand-alone installments) if you haven't already. The damage modeling and physics are fantastic, and they are very actively developing and improving on everything as they introduce new installments.

@@josephgarfield3363 Yea I've never tried the VR Bridge Crew thing, but that's a little different. But just imagine a new triple A open Universe Star Trek game where you do like X-COM style management of your Star Ship, then full on Space Sim combat. And like you pick an Alpha quadrant race and start in a different part of the galaxy and there's a full on Alliance system with PvP, PVE missions, shuttles, away missions on foot with FPS mechanics. And you could do like 20 player raids with 20 star ships against the Borg or Dominion. With like a class system so you could have Support class medical vessels, a Rogue class that's like the USS Defiant, or Klingon Birds of Prey, Romulan Interceptor, and a Tank class that's like Galaxy class ships like the Enterprise or a Vorcha class Ship. Like Star Trek Online but with a triple A Dev that'd be so cool.
@MrUnboxerMan I'd personally wait. They'll probably be a Beta or more hands on previews in the future where we can get more information to make a more informed purchasing decision.

Really liking the sounds of it, one of the things I really wanted from other modern SW games is a dogfight mode and they just haven't delivered to a satisfactory degree. Love that it's cockpit only, it means my immersion won't be a disadvantage when playing as other people use 3rd person.6 maps isn't a lot but it probably depends on how good they are.

You can also play the fleet battle mode against bots so longevity is there
one of the best SW game series of all time. I remember how fast I ran to the store to get it. I would also love to see a reboot of Wing Commander like this!

tbh XWA was my least favorite of the series, but the guys at the XWVM project are doing good work, im looking foward to that more than Squadrons
Oh my god! It’s finally an epic mash up for x-wing and Tie Fighter cd-rom!!!! Loved these games from my childhood same managing systems
I'd love to see a mode added later on in DLC where instead of your team of 5 being in separate ships, you're all in one larger ship (like the Millenium Falcon or the Ghost) and each player gets to control one part of the ship. One or two players fly the ship, the rest each get a gun turret (like, one in the front, one in the back, maybe a rotating one on top or on the bottom, you get the idea). That'd offer a completely different take on multiplayer battles.

@trever weatherford Ace Combat’s multiplayer is almost nowhere near as complex.
Ace combat is much faster than this and they don't have missiles here.
Man with a HOTAS or some kind of flight stick this game will be amazing especially setting up the controls where it's quick to change sheild engine and weapons

HOTAS and use Voice Attack + VR - you can control anything via voice and no push of a button required. I use it for Elite and it works so good you can even create responses via Text to Speech and create your own "AI" or Board Computer that speaks to you ;)

I am so glad they have kept the cockpit management of former X-wing and T-fighter games . I am fond of these games, I have played them so many times , very hyped about this redux.
The tie cockpit seems a bit confined.....
Cockipits are pretty small. Very little leg space and headroom

@@edharding9363 The main multiplayer mode makes me feel like thats a good thing. It seems to be tailored to competetive gameplay and having a lot of ships would make that very complicated. Figuring out the right build for a ship is going to be tough enough anyways.
@@swagric2590 to me it seems very boring. A competitive game mode is fine but not all of us want competitive. We want massive dogfights. Besides some of the game modes like fleet battles (which certainly isn't) seem like they would be more "realistic" with more. I mean a squadron is 12 fighters.
And no offense to jackfrags but I don't care about computer playing. I want to know how it works on console.
@@COMPNOR-97 from other youtubers who have also played the game, they have said that fleet battles includes several AI fighters as well as each opposing squadrons 5 players. Dogfight mode is only a 5 v 5 mode.

With those kind of SIM level controls, the HOTAS/Thrustmaster (Joystick, thrust and pedals) will make a comeback 😀

Star Wars Squadrons was a lot of fun,loved the graphics and epic space battles, enjoyed it 👏👏👏🙌
They absolutely should have added boarding with 1st person infantry and transport ships to siege the ships systems from within, and had pilots and marines as the 2 class options, I am entirely confident the people would love that nostalgia and additional content
this is essentially the same as the X-wing Alliance game simulator mode, just with other players involved but many many less types of ships. All the large cruisers and battle ships had all the subsystems 20 years ago too!

[Edit]-Well the vid just ended, and it's just a straight rip of X-Wing Vs TIE but missing most of the game modes, damn shame But at least we already know what the next 3/4 DLC packs are likely to be - lmao

yeah cos I thought the consensus was that it was gonna be way more in depth and complicated then battlefront, so the title confused me.
For any new youtubers reading this: don't be discouraged, hard work pays off!
I'm not saying that it has the best graphics I've ever seen, I'm not saying it has the best gameplay I've ever played, I'm not saying it has the best content, I'm not even saying that it's the best game ever made (although it is definitely one of my favourite games of all time). But what I am saying is, The VR experience makes this game THE COOLEST GAME EVER MADE! 😎😎😎. It truly is a childhood dream come true and is simply A MUST for any star wars fan!

This game looks really promising, I love that you can only play in first person, it makes it a lot more immersive and that you actually have to look at the instrument panel makes you feel like a real pilot.
I have a friend who owns a full flight set up and a vr headset (for different games) and you should have seen how he freaked out when he realised that squadrons would be compatible with both and he could get full immersion.
I’m planning on buying a VR headset now that this is coming how. May be a few hundred bucks but it would be so cool

I remember being so surprised when I realized that in TIE-Fighter I couldn't just _yeet_ out of a situation with hyperdrive, and I'd have to go back to the docking station/star destroyer

@@brianl7321 There is a youtube video of a guy beating all objectives on that mission on hard. It is fucking insane how difficult it is. He said it took him weeks of attempts in the comments.
That mission...playing the x-wing miniatures game I still use quotes from that while playing.

I’m very happy with it, there’s been rumors of a reboot to the xwing/tie games for a while, me thinks this is it.

I played the originals growing up, this feels very nostalgic. Especially the power management etc.
Yeah, power management is very much like the x-wing & tie fighter series and so is the subsystems stuff. But with multiplayer (which x-wing vs tie fighter had). But let's see.
They should recreate the originals with current technology!
Imagine an mmo like no mans sky set in the starwars universe where ur a bounty hunter. With countless armor/weapon customization. And a star citizen lvl of spaceships with single man ships and like 8 crew ships with bosses that can be killed by a single person or require a whole crew of ppl to beat. A man can dream

To this day that series is my favorite set of Star Wars games.
Actually, the Shield/Weapon/Engine energy balancing system, the shield projector (Aft/Rear/Full) and the targeting systems, are a legacy from X-Wing and Tie Fighter games.
A lot of elements come directly from those titles.

My friend showed me XWing and I was, meh, I have an Amiga. Then I saw Doom and TIE Fighter. I built my first PC that week.

It annoys me that they completely miss what an interceptor is, it’s supposed to go really fast in a straight line, fighters should be the high maneuverability craft.
@@Slender_Man_186 They could be more fragile as well. making proper teamwork needed for the fighters to win by protecting each other asses. But i basically agree that the interceptor should be all about speed and darting in and out of fights
@@MatsNorway The TIE Interceptor and A-Wings have been the interceptor classes since the original X-Wing game.
@@judz567 nope, Avenger had shields and a similar layout but the interceptor did not, Awing did have weak shields though

For those who played x-wing and tie fighter simulators of the 90s wont be surprised. But its a good thing that they kept the concept in this game and keep that somewhat level of detail.
I have to salute them for keeping the same control scheme as XWing, TIE Fighter, XWing vs TIE Fighter, and XWing Alliance.
We need an official mission editor. That would give tons of longevity.

How does the balance feel with the imperial ships not having any shields? It seems like the attributes of the classes are quite different for both sides?
It would be cool if some of the fleet battles could be battle of hoth, battle of gavin or battle of endor etc. It would be really fun to play those online and sometimes have a different outcome than what was in the movies
Just wish the PvP has the option of having larger scale battle than just 5vs5.
Hopefully in time they will allow that as the game grows. I think i'll do good at this in the pvp, cause im much better at flying-based games and dog-fights in space than normal FPS games on the ground.

from watching your video, it seems its the depth of the original X wing series controls, with some of the modularity of modern first person shooters. I like it.
It's an updated reworked version of the Original X-wing vs Tie Fighter which in it's self was an epic space combat game that kept me and my cyber friends happy for years back in the 90's
I see my experience in X-wing, TIE fighter, X-wing vs TIE and X-wing Alliance will come in handy.

Am i the only one that wishes there was a conquest type mode in this game? Like in battlefield, imagine playing the objective like in fleet battles but not just 5v5 like a full 32v32 making it feel like a real star wars battle you would see in the movies. That would be something else
I hope it is something they are secretly working on in the background and release shortly after launch. I can only imagine how epic it would look to just hear tie fighters and rebel forces zooming past you as you tail a ship while avoiding 4 ships tailing you. Lots of potential here to make it a cult classic and a game fans of all the Rogue Squadron games will enjoy.
I kind of wish when you focus the power to something that your characters hand actually does something. I love first person for seeing that extra detail.
Sounds like a modern Xwing/Tie fighter. Some of the best Star Wars games ever.

Played X-Wing & it's expansions along with Tie Fighter & it's expansion when they first came out including the X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter multiplayer game and can't wait for this game! Bring on the VR and HOTAS support too!

I play star citizen and have dual joysticks and am used to having left right up down thrust as well as forward and backward acceleration. I haven't seen any of that that I have noticed in any videos acn you only go forward and roll and that's it or can you thrust in all directions?
Oh my god power management element is amazing! Reminds me of playing FTL lol
