I'm not a safty man!
I'm going to show you tips and tricks about weld 7018 welding rods. I talk about everything I can think of. Some common problems and the best way to fix them. what to do when you have porosity. The things that cause porosity. And how to get it out when you do get it. And I also briefly cover why a rod heater is not necessary.
Hey guys here's the link to my financial fitness channel= / financialfi. .
How to know if your welding rods are good or bad period what to do if they don't perform the way you want them to. How to manipulate the puddle and make money welding with chris.

That is the incorrect way to fit a thread o let.
You cannot go off the face of a thread o let some times the tread is not square with the face
Also the thread o lets bevel is engineered to saddle on the out side of the pipe, lowering it into the wall of the pipe is out of code and is a cut out.
You did not check the 2 hole on the flange before you laid out the thread o let.
You should not be teaching anyone anything about pipe fitting or welding.
Your welds are also ruff to the point of needing repair and you don’t know the basics of pipe fitting.
Another troll comment from the village IDIOT Jerome Lee!
I’ve been doing it successfully for over 20 years every damn day.
Congrats Jerome I’m about to saddle you up!
Mr. Jerome, sum ppl r by the book folks and then there are ppl who have "perfected" shortcuts that give the same results. Respect must always b on the table when ur opining, otherwise u sound like ur whining.
@@TaylorWelding I was about going to subscribe anyway, but this is GOLD on itself, subscribed!
Cheers!
@@TaylorWelding What is the difference between a "set on" and a "set in" olet, and what is the throat thickness of your weld in relation to the pipe wall thickness [and cutout hole diameter] when you set the olet "in" as opposed to setting it on..? Why is this important? These aspects would make for a great video, as well as the need for any reinforcement to compensate for cutting holes in the header pipe...
You may wish to explain dimension "m" in ASME B31.3, Fig 328.4.4 as well, and why they placed a restriction on this dimension... Also Fig 127.4.8 (E) in ASME B31.1 has some interesting information. Good luck with it mate...
Been welding and fitting for 20 plus years and using the torpedo to find center was pretty slick...old dog learns new trick 🤣
Thanks brother. Anything to make it faster.
Best video for olets on UA-cam..
Thank you Gregory
Quickly becoming a valuable channel to those wanting to get out and do the damn thing. I like that you're not here making this crap harder than it has to be like so many of them 😵💫
Thanks man that’s my goal. Stream line it. And not talk about the difference between 6010 and 6013.
That’s getting really old. If you know what I mean. Not sure why these other channels are grinding mill scale and talking crazy stuff that doesn’t matter
Can tell a lot of years and effort went into being as efficient as you are.
Thank you Cody. Day in day out.
That was a badass magic trick @ 4:04.
Glad you liked it
Yes, awesome!
I will be telling' you, Jose does one heck of a job with the camera.....give him a big pat on the back....for hand held, it is very steady,,,,this is coming from a guy who has shot a lot of video and stills when he was a commercial photographer for 30 years......Paul
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I learned something amazing and simple 😌
Glad it was helpful!
Man! That is beautiful welding work, beyond functional. I admire your skill & artistry, Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Paul! And commenting.
Stick weld is cool, tried it for the first time last week with Pete the Sasquatch 👍🏽
Nice ! Everybody needs To know the basics. You might have a new occupation in the Thunderdome lol
Love the content, and those are some mighty SMOOOOOOTH beads......Bravo...
Hey Chris, thanks for the video. I recognize that location!! I should have walked over lol
I wish you would’ve
Thanks Chris. Just got my first stick #welder yesterday! Can't wait to add another feather in the cap. #gold #silver #vocation #freedom
Keep them videos coming,Im getting smarter every video I watch,Thanks Taylor welding......................................................Fort Worth,Tx
Taylor you’re a BEAST!! Love you man. Wish I could find a billion subscribers for you bro
Badass makes me smile every time 👍
Someone said you treat Jose bad. I'm not seeing that. Some have to complain when there is nothing to complain about. You guys do a good job and video and good attitude.
Thanks John. That comment really did bother me.
Sometimes when I’m working I tend not say things kindly But I don’t mean them to be harsh. I hope people understand that.
Welder‘s bitch more than anybody on the planet… lol
enjoying your content, clear concise instruction, super pleasant personality
Thank you that means a lot. Thank you for watching and commenting as well
oh boy oh lets.....thanks so much Chris......from your fan down here in Florida....Paul...always great information you are sharing....cheers
Kick ass!!!
This is exactly how I do it on CMLC pipe.💪🏽
Nice Job Chris! First o-let I stuck on was a 10 inh on 36 in pipe. Foreman come by and smacked the pipe with a hammer when I was hood down just a getting it! Just about shit! Good old days!
Lol
I've been watching your vids and just like I've said before. You're one of the only guys on UA-cam that explains the process.keep it up brother. 🍻
I appreciate that!
Love the torpedo to find top center I use it all the time now. Even though it’s pointless from time to time I’ll ping my actual center finder on top to realize I wasted my time doing that because the torpedo is dead in the money. I also use my torch now as a sledgehammer
Lol
This video had me cracking the f.up, Taylor, you're good sh!t. Had me cracking up when you kicked them rocks and dirt over the drop... common man... and @18.28 when you drop the 7018 on the ground when your bucket is to the left of you, not 5 feet away.
Nice welding. I stick everything but aluminum which I mig.
Nice fit up job and slick 7018 out in the field, we tig these bad boys in the shop
About to burn some Olets on big pipe tomorrow morning! This video has me pumped! Big job and the boss is counting on me. Fingers crossed no leaks 🤞🏼
Cool how did it go?
Great fit-up and great fillet welds
Thanks for the video brother it was really helpful I'm a structural welder getting into pipe welding so definitely helped
Good deal thank you for letting me know
Very interesting. What a neat thing to be able to do. I would like to learn a new trade like this, (or anything pretty much), but I am going progressively blind, so whatever I welded would most likely not turn out too spiffy. :). I am going through paralegal training outside of working right now. I can see the computer screen as long as I increase the size of everything, so this works well.
That’s awful. I’m so sorry.
I love this job i would like to work this. ....
I've never met an inspector or an x-ray tech that cared what the bead looked like on an o let as long as they mag good
I haven’t either but I always try to put the bead in it
VT is a thing….
4:00 Aint Never seen Som1 Spark It Like Dat 😂😂
How long you been welding bud? Thanks for the vid. You got a very steady hand something I need practice with.
Idk well over 20 years! I started in jr high in my dad’s shop then went to trade school. Thanks for coming over and commenting
Finally a clear explanation and demonstration on how to weld olets. Thanks for the great content. Now my question is can olets be x-rayed/radiographed ?
No z-ray .. they penetrant testing them
X
@@TaylorWelding Good to know thanks.
@@TaylorWelding I have to do one can I use 6011 rod then cap with 7018 overhead?
Brother is nasty with the torch. Definately hit home when you told us on another video to get good with the torch for productivity....which is something I need to improve on. I will be honest with you though, I do a lot of equipment repair and never seem to be in a place where I feel like using torches makes the most sense. I probably need to get over that though. But like you said, need to get the confidence with em.
I'm digging that stinger
I got a few left if you want one
I'll get back with you after work boss
Excellent 👍
This is GOLD!
But...but...you didn't grind all the mill scale off first! Haha. :-) Just kidding...I know your thoughts on that and I don't disagree. Love your videos, even though I'm not a pipe welder.
subbed cause of the Makita tools
Good strong welds
I learned a lot. Thanks!
Just curious if you perfer tilmans over black stations. I get mine from Amazon for around 30for the winter insulated ones. I known you talk alot about finance. Been doing alot of mine work, building pipe fence and water pivots the last bit waiting for a call for nd and never seen someone do a Olet like that. Another tool for the tool box. Thank you brother really helps us young guys who broke out a couple years ago get refreshers when we get back on pipe fab.
I prefer Lincoln mig gloves. They seem to last a pretty good while. I’m glad you like the o-let video. Nobody ever showed me how to do one I just kinda had to figure it out. Thanks for watching and commenting
New welder and subscriber here ... I'm learning a lot and appreciate all your tips... i.e. staggering. I realize that this is a particular application here but I noticed that you'll often make multiple passes or "clean-up " a previous weld. Is there ever a time that going over a previous weld is not appropriate? On other videos you mentioned going below, then above ... can you elaborate more on considerations when making multiple passes... perhaps on your next video? Thanks, Jeff
Welcome aboard!
Sure will
Thank you for this video. Thank you for having a personality. Do you like that mask because it is less bulk? Does it not draw the smoke up into your face?
Respect
Hey bud curiosity I know this is a older video but I’m constantly rewatching your videos because you offer so much knowledge and I’m in my first year. I’m curious about where you found or what kind of quick connects you have for your oxy acetylene set up? Love the videos man keep it up, much love!
I can’t remember the name. I will look when I get home. they are the best I have found
Koike quick connects
Here are the quick connects. I’ll try to couple different kinds and this is the best one in my opinion.Koike Oxy-Fuel Quick Connect Torch To Hose Coupler Set, Safe Fuel/Oxygen Disconnect, OSHA Compliant, UL Listed (SET) a.co/d/dJUo3n7
another great video, thanks again 👍👍
So nice of you
Well done buddy...
Thanks for the trade knowledge!
I want to specialize in hydraulic piping and cylinder repair. The outfit that came in an rebuilt sever cylinders for my company charged a heavy rate. At my current job as a service engineer, we have a lot of hydraulic compacting equipment. I feel like it could be a good niche. I have tig welded and mig welded some ports on some cylinder rebuilds for my own forklift and tractors, but was wondering if anyone thinks this could be lucrative?
Opinions from other tradesman?
A friend of mine just built a hydraulic shop he’s doing really well. I’m not sure how lucrative it is or would be
Hi Chris, do you ever use fleetweld for the root?
Brings back memories of stabbings in headers we once did. The pipe was like a banana but using little runs through the stabbings to contract the main pipe everything ended straight, power of contraction.
Great tutorial and have forwarded it to my son.
I don’t know anything about fleetweld. We have to use whatever welding rods the gas company wants. I hope that helps your son it would help me
4:00 Did you use the heat of the cut to re spark your torch? That’s some badassity right there bub.
Morning Chris loved watching that! Did you make the helmet never seen one like that? Nice job with the torches I have a hard time cutting circles I don’t do it very often though. Hats off to the camera man nicely done!☺️ have a great day guys!
Thanks brother. The welding hood is called a pancake hood . I did not make it there’s a few companies that make them. It keeps sunlight from getting behind. (Glare) Fits like a mask
Smart welder
Never knew you could soot it to keep bb's out. One of the old heads showed me to barley thread a piece of pipe in it. Gotta watch it though, you thread to deep and that pipe aint never comming out lol, ask me how I know hahaha.
Lol
Ha been there. I work at a machine shop and we had these 2 1/4" pipes that got an olet welded on near one of the threads... Yeah we had to run a 2 1/4" die on all the parts
That was a good workout haha
Bon Boulo😆😆👍👍
Nice torch skills and welding sir, thank you for putting out this video. What tip size are you using and what are your bottles set at? Do you two strip cap because you like to or because the procedure calls for it? Also what stinger is that looks like something in between a stinger V and a tweco
I’m glad you like it. Torch tip is a 00
To be honest for you nobody told me how to weld olets. that’s just the way I did it and that’s the way I’ve always done it.
I’m sure there’s a Inspector somewhere that wants it a certain way
@@TaylorWelding Right on that could be my issue i tried your way running a #2 tip cutting a hole in .388 4" for a 1/2" olet and I had alot of trouble seeing what i was doing as I cut. I ended up cutting too big of a hole and having to fill a gap. usually i just pop a hole the size of the ID of the olet favoring on the smaller size. I'm going to try again tomorrow with a 00. What kind of stinger are you using and m is that a brass level?
@@yannickbigras2890 if you dont already know oxygen bottle should be opened completely and acetylene only 1/4 turn as for pressure setting on the guage I personally for 00 tip use 5-6 psi for gas and 28-30 for oxygen..I find people tend to use too much of both..key is to have a clean tip
This helped me
I’m so glad
I get a lot of crappy comments. I appreciate the good ones.
Good deal.
Glad you like it. I like your name
@@TaylorWelding thanks man 🤙🏾
Come on Jose!
Also you said down I’m guessing for temp due to keyhole size?
Yes
SKILLS!! 🤘
Damn, I hope I can get that efficient with lighting a torch
Do it every day for 20 + years you’ll be awesome at it!
I’ve started building flare stacks and lots of stainless tips for them , if you’ve got any stainless tips man I tell you what that would be deadly .
I’m not the authority on stainless. The best tip would be tig it instead of stick welded.
@@TaylorWelding Ahh fair enough , The customer I am working for has us all set up on mig roots with 316 and 309 wire . its pretty slick stuff, took a bit to get used to but man does it ever make rooting fast and easy
Hey man awesome videos learned a lot from all your videos so far trying to land my first welding job! What kind of stinger do you have?
It’s called a stubby rod saver. I can’t find them anymore. Venmo me 40 bucks and I’ll send you one. Free shipping in the USA. I’ve got about 10 left
@@TaylorWelding sounds good what’s your Venmo?
Hey man you still got those extra stingers for sale?
Yes I got a few left. Send 50 bucks Taylor-Welding LLC
Be sure to leave your name and mailing address.
Thanks alot for sharing ur experience I really appreciate it ..I am just new in welding so would u plz explain why u used 6010 instead of 7018 in first pass ?
The 6010 digs and penetrates. 7018 not so much.
I enjoy your method and appreciate your channel. Can you describe what voltage you are running along with the rod size again thank you. We welders need to stick together. RR
I made a video about that
Can you do a macro through one of those olets and post it up on your channel...? Be a big help.
Bottom line, ya gotta b smarter than the job as my old grandpap always told me.
Don’t let that wire wheel get you juan
Thanks man. Is 5/32 really needed for the hot pass? My machine can't run them well. Can everything be done in 1/8 rods or eve capping with 3/32 7018s? What about whip and pause of 6010 or weave of 7018? New to welding, thanks in advance.
use whatever you want. It’s just what I like most of the time you gotta use whatever the inspector wants.
how did you line up the two fittings with the flange holes on the far end?
? what do you mean
@@TaylorWelding that pipe section could be welded not in alignment with the bolt patterns from the adjoining sections, did you have prints for the alignment of the new welded couplings or were they welded randomly? they had to be in alignment with some other connections when installed, there are eight different positions on the flange holes and the space between the holes. how did you determine that exact position to fit the couplings other than using the level?
#Silver
Lol 😂 wrong Chanel but I Appreciate comment Clifford
I hope you win Brother
What stinger is that?
Okay I have a question since I’m still in welding school, and learning fairly quick, and trying hard, we had a boilermaker come to our school… sooooo boilermaker vs pipeline, honest opinion of which direction would be wiser in your opinion….
Pipe line but you need to do both. Imop
what part of LA do you work out of?
I would say most of my work has been south of Shreveport
Witchcraft how you restarted that torch
Where do you get your electrode holders
I bought them a long time ago off of eBay they don’t sell them anymore
so basically use a centering head and scribe it on center.
Do you always 4 pass a o-let?
Whatever it takes to fill it up in Cap it
Never hammer the face if the olet thats what your checking to get it square with pipe lol
Where Can I buy some stubby rod holders from?
I have a few left. They don’t make them anymore. you can, Venmo me $60.00 to Taylor-WeldingLLC please provide your shipping address please put your shipping address
@@TaylorWelding I would like to purchase 4 of your stubby rod stingers for a kid in welding school and me, but i am not able to send funds through Vermo, it does no recognize Taylor-WeldingLLC
My son in-law and I watch your videos quite often, he is enrolled in welding school and I am trying to help him out where I ca6
That’s not a hammer
Ha!
i refer to said olets as lumps nothing good about welding lumps
Why do u treat Jose like shit, he seems like good hand!
And why is it you think I treat JOSE bad?
The way you order him around, doesn't hurt to show him a. Little respect
