Ponk 80 me and my cousin just got a metal detector with our joint money, it arrives tomorrow. I totally agree with you, we're not in it for the riches, it's just funny to think that some people drop the weirdest stuff and is fun to see the history. Finding £1000000 worth of jewellery would just be a nice little bonus :)
This video is awesome! I watch heaps of videos on metal detecting and want to start up, but everyone just shows the rings they find rather then showing how long it took to find that. This video is actually really helpful in the sense that, once I start, I can't just give up because I didn't find "treasure" straight away.
iv been at it 2 an half years ,, find some interestin stuff .. nothing fantastic ware i live .. if you do facebook check out metal detecting crappy finds ,, we have a great laugh but shows its not all about treasure ,, its about getting out and havin fun ,, good luck .. and theres actually some great crap ..
I've recently started metal detecting I find it a hobby like fishing sometimes you catch something and sometimes you don't but the scenery and just been out there was amazing and the wildlife.. if I guess metal detecting similar you get out there and if you're lucky might get hit and if you're not lucky ..it is good.. like the exercise and just been out there in the environment just amazing and I'm going to keep on metal detecting the exciting thing is you never know what you're gonna get that's why I find it very good adventure p.s. like your UA-cam channel you helped me a lot👍😊
My parents recently got me a new detector, which is an upgrade from my old detector in which I only found rusty hunks of iron. On the second day of my new detector I found a US 1941 Wheat Penny!
I am wanting to start this hobby, I have no worries about me giving it up due to lack of finds, my worry is not finding places to metal detect on... That's the only thing that gives me pause.
Your so right, that beautiful landscape is the real treasure, Id love to dig with you! Your attitude is ace, and that advice was spot on, its not about the finds, take the expectations away and just enjoy being outside. Great video xx
im not a hardcore metal detector i know what to expect it means i got to try more places. i never found anything worth while yet. this also goes for my magnet fishing found nothing of value its been about 2 years now.. its still fun
Hi, great video, I've just got my first detector and your right, it's just an excuse to be there. I will certainly adopt your attitude towards this hobby. Thanks
As a beginner, I've had good luck and not so good. But, I enjoy the hunt of what's maybe just out of sight. I recently found a ring at a park that a girl had lost some yrs. ago and it was from an old Beau that was lost in Afghanistan . When I gave it to her, well that will keep me hunting. Enjoying your vids. Keep up the good work, Fellow hunter !!
I intend to retire early and metal detecting is going to get me out into the beautiful British countryside, I walk a lot and already enjoy the countryside, when I retire I will have more time on my hands, so will combine the two. I too will only be doing it for fun and fresh air.
you got me on the directions ,,, subscribed at the squirel ... lol.. mad ed .. looking forwarward to more , seen a few older ones of yours, interestin explanative ,, thanks ,,
I stay with it for the thrill of "Its bound to happen, when you least expect it" Land Finds in 2017 1. Hundreds of Coins, 3 knives, 1 silver Necklace, 1 Titanium ring, cellphone, bullets, trinkets lots of nails and bottle caps. Underwater Finds (Those are gold mines) Swimming holes, Shallow kayak/Canou docking areas, Rope Swing Areas 6 Cellphones, 5 watches, 2 wallets, 4 necklaces, 10 earings, 2 rings (Gold 18k and a Silver Ring) 8 knives, hundreds of Coins, Tackle. Other stuff too. If you have shallow water in your area where people swim and hang out. Those are hot spots. Imo i get better overall results from underwater hunting in hotspots. 90% of the time someone drops something underwater they never retrieve it. 70% of the time on land people will notice something fell and retrieve it . Its all mathmatics and process of elimination and averages. You got to do the research and have a game plan. When you do. It turns into an adventure everytime.
Excellent vid, love you throwing that brush at the runaway glove Lol I have high expectations of enjoyable scenery and solitude, exercise and fresh air...and loads of rubbish in a bag and a coin or two :) I can't wait to get my detector
I don't comment on videos too often, but...good video! I don't metal detect to dig treasures out of the ground. I metal detect to dig stories out of the ground. You dug some great stories out of the ground in this video.
My problem is finding a place to metal detect. I don’t own the property I’m staying on and the local park is small and very well maintained. Also no body metal detects here so I stand out and draw unwanted attention.
The Modern Adventurer , I hunt parks schools lakes rivers empty lots, anywhere people have been i hunt . I've found many pieces of gold and silver jewelry along with pockets full of silver coins. Clad coins almost 600 dollars in just under two years . where I live I hardly see anybody detecting and that brings a huge smile to my face . If your concerned about people giving you strange looks hunt at night . I do both night and day night time when it gets to hot . Kids always follow me around and adults asks many questions. I look at that as an opportunity to speak with strangers. Don't give up, trust me you will find just about anything you can imagine that's made of metal . I have . Good luck. Big Mex from California USA
Detecting is a good way to clear the mind. Today I found an explosive thing, a button, loads of rubbish and something that looks like a metal omelette. It was was good day.
Caterpillar ? I think that was your false moustache disguise got blown off in the wind . . . I agree about the expectations theory but watching the great finds on youtube may contribute to those expectations. So more videos like yours will help lol !
I haven't got any permissions of my own. I'm on the Scottish metal detecting forum. If i ask, will any of them invite me out for a day on their permissions? Rank newbie.
You may get lucky, but probably not. It takes a lot of time to trust someone to invite into your land. Unfortunately, some people take advantage of peoples kindness. Your best bet is to join a club, and get to know people there. Permissions will come after that :)
Took up metal detecting 2 wks ago , i bought myself an XP Deus , I know the odds of findings gold/silver coins are about the same odds as winning the Lottery . I bought this metal detector to find iron , steel or whatever of lesser value . I just want to find something interesting now and again , I like the feeling that when i find something i think to myself " someone stood on this very spot " wither it be 50 , 100 or maybe more years ago . It gives me the goosebumps
Hi, Peter! Actually, the chances of you finding silver is pretty high. Gold, a little less so. You've got a brilliant machine there, and it's only a matter of time. But yes, the historical stuff is as interesting, or even more interesting in other ways.
Along with high expectations beginners do not detect enough hours to learn their machine...if you can stick with it those first 60 -70 hours your hooked for life.
This is so true I started metal detecting with a friend we bought a garret together but after searching for about 3 hours he gave up and now 2 years later I am the only one that uses the metal detector and still didn't find anything nice not even a modern coin but just doing metal detecting is something that I love sure it is nice when I find something nice but that's not the reason why I metal detect
Change your settings.... get the nails out on the deck burry them again about 4 inches and wave your detector back and forth, change the settings until you can't pick them up then you shouldn't did to many more! Good luck. :)
I find mostly nails and caps n tabs too. Yesterday I checked a small park and found all the above AND the bonus of a dirty old sweat sock! 😕 Someone explain to me how one sock ends up 6" underground?
hi greetings from british columbia canada...nice vid am just getting into metal detecting ...i just bought a detector to look for gold nuggets on my gold claim on the fraser river ...but am also interested in looking for relics and coins else where...everything you said about metal detecting one can also say about gold panning...the priceless value is just being there in nature take a look at some of my vids to see b.c. beauty....mind you here ... we have to keep on our toes because we have bears and cougars..its all part of the out door experience ...you make nice engaging videos i like your sence of humour...must be nice finding roman coins and things ..its like time travel ..holding it in your hands ...and imagining its story falling out of someones pocket or? thanks again ...mickey miner
I gave up the hobby about 25 years ago. I had a nice White's detector, paid about a grand for it. But it was HEAVY. I've got a bad back, and after 30 minutes of swinging the detector my back would start hurting like crazy. That took all the fun out of it. I gave up and sold the detector. BUT all these years later I've started watching UA-cam videos and my interest has peaked again. I bought a nice little Teknetics Delta detector that weighs nothing. Once the ground thaws out I'm going to give it another try. Thanks for the video. :-)
I share my finds with anyone who's intrested. I pull our my phone a show my finds sometimes in videos other times in pictures . Out of the many who see my finds I'm quick to tell them it's not easy. If you plan to do metal detected be aware that the success rate is very low . Most of the time you'll go home with a pocket full of modern coins . I do say it's about the thrill of the hunt and the chance to be outside and enjoy nature . The reward is exercise and occasionally something spectacular and valuable. Bottom line most people won't do it no matter what . Getting a thrill when you find something valuable is addicting. I find metal detecting very relaxing . Thanks for the video Big Mex from California USA
My 2nd hunt was today. Not disappointed by the finds so far, just a little shocked how physically demanding metal detecting is (at least for me since I am sadly out of shape!).
I think one of the main reasons is the huge difficulty of finding permissions, even after watching all the guides including yours when I started out it drove me to quit, because every answer was a "no", and after putting in so much effort to go home with several "no" responses for weeks on end was extremely depressing and aided in losing all motivation to continue the hobby. But after several months out, the bug is always there, and I now look for other ways to enjoy the hobby by planning on going to rallies and such, and just hope one day I pick up those permissions :)
Trouble is watching UA-cam videos and basing expectations on them. Reality is as pointed out in the comments you may go out for 4 hours and find nothing, but the next time you go out for an hour you find something. I started and in the first 2 months I found two gold rings, forward on three years and finds have gone down and no more gold rings.last winter I was out 4 hours a week down local beach with minimal finds. Land searches are more fruitful with beaches as a backup. Beaches will have all been detected over the years and probably days before you detect. Try and detect smart and push your detectors capability as far as it will go. Dont expect to find too much but dont give up. Give yourself 3 months rather than 3 detecting sessions before you decide if the hobby is for you. It's a good hobby as it gets you out the house and in the fresh air.
Great new permission bleeps. I've been metal detecting for just over 3 weeks now with a Garrett 250. Luckily I live 3 minutes walk from the beach but I have no permissions as of yet but still trying. I have no expectations of life changing treasures but I have lost weight, found £7.30 spendables, 5 fishing weights, Spanish 20 cent, and a pre-decimal half penny that I'm going to olive oil( thanks to your advice). Gl and hh
Hi I love to see detectorists that have and live in an area where they are able to detect and find artifacts as I said I would like to Do this hobby not for gain but historical as I live in an area steeped in history but bogged down in areas that are public and left to Get littered with filth and rubbish and are called beauty spots, Still at least I see you and people like you doing a nice hobby finding things it’s a pity not in my area I just wish this area could Be detected as it is one of the oldest historical parts of England and areas that protected England’s past its a pity it’s in the no do Doldrums so you carry on your good work so that I can get envious and watch your videos All the best Douglas
do i ask for permission from anyone, i live in the U.S. And i own 25 acres my land is over 150+ years old and parties used to be here all the time, there has never been any metal detectors here. SO EXCITED, apparently people used to throw ring parties, where they would throw rings around, YYYYYAYYYY!
I have pulled quite a few coins out of our local beach, only a few spendable 😂 loads of junk too. But the occasional pound coin is awesome. And so i a ring pull 👍👍
Metal detecting is so much like fishing. its not (necessarily) catching a fish to fry-up over a campfire as the simple act of fishing. Why else would so many fisherman be cool with catch and release!
When I was fishing,it was catch& release.my buds and I would wait until the whites were running, then and only then did we keep our limit, and fry them later on.nowadays I metal detect. Killing it in my yard, pulling out musketballs.thinking it was a skirmish site from back in the day.awesomeness
It leaves more scope for us .some people just dont get it ,when were out on a sunny day looking at the scenery wherever we may be hunting ,to us it makes us glad to be above soil it doesn't matter if we dont find anything, its just been out there as you say .Hey funny enough the germans did develop a rifle that fired round corners it was an automatic to spray out of a section of tanks that had a blind spot because of the way they desighned the gun the russians tried to exploit this weak point by fire bombing the tank from up top the cannny devils .Nice vid as always take care Ant from sunny wales .
Great video as always Kris, you're spot on about unrealistic expectations, for me and a good few detectorists I know, the joy isn't in finding 'treasure' tho I like to joke about it, it's finding things that are interesting, even if that is just something I don't know what it is and I go away and research, be it a button, a badge, coin or even a gate hook.
I got a metal detector for my Xmas, 2019,, I've still not been out because of the weather ,,, can't wait to get out, so I'm not sure if I'll like it lol,,,, i really want to as my misses will kill me if I don't get out and use it 😂,
Easily to see why newbies get disgruntled and give up....they aren't finding treasure........I've found nothing myself on club digs apart from rubbish....still I've enjoyed myself and ive met some really great and cool people...and enjoyed the fresh air..
Always worth a second visit are your older vids. I agree, I have been detecting almost 4 years now, and I honestly thought I'd give up after a few months. But here I am 4 machines in 😁👍 love this hobby. ATB,GL&HH Mark
I hear your words. I always have dreams when I go out, but I am lucky to live near a park that on a good day I share with foxes and deer and geese and turkeys and swallows and orioles and clouds and trees and the elements. Happy Hunting!
As soon as I land on a field and find a bit of lead I know I'm onto a winner. Lead gives a really good signal and if someone has missed that then there's other stuff missed too 😍
I think maybe people start out with too difficult of a machine cause they want the best but it can be really frustrating with a simple detector just learning the basics
I got a detector and gave up after my second trip out. Fast forward 3 years later and I take it out and find my first silver. I've never looked back. Happy hunting 🏴
As you said - expectation exaggerated by tube vids. The reality is you won't find a Saxon or Roman item if the Saxons or Romans never went near that bit of land! You are most likely to find bits of shrapnel, nuts and bolts that fell off machinery, horse-shoes, nails, etc. If you don't look at the ground you are standing on, you won't see the flint tool or pot sherd from the stone age, because flint and pot doesn't trigger a detector!
spent months, while in the outback , australia fossisiking llke metal detectng without the gizmos found lots OF OPALS IN MINE TAILINGS HAD PERMISSION TO KEEP WHAT I FOUND GR EAT GREAT TIME. THE 35C + TEMP SOMETHNG ELSE to contend with
Well that was a nice surprise from 5 1/2 years ago Kris. I was a bit slow on stopping today's video and this popped up. There was no Like on it, so I knew I hadn't seen it. Interesting finds, especially the blue copper coin. The cobweb on your beardy chin amused me 😁I have to get out and do some permission door knocking. I have seen your videos on getting permissions and I even have your forms saved, but not gotten around to it and sorta frightened. Must do it though.
Great vid, kudos. However, i'm quitting because i did find something. :-) It's in the latest video on my chn. Not very keen to push my luck and find something even bigger. :-)
When I started out, finding targets came easy to me.its dumbluck finding a keeper.ive filled 5 gal buckets full of TRASH.but all the finds that bring a smile are worthy of the time searching.those witha short attn span shouldn't try
I have purchased gofind 66 and gofind 44 alongwith Pro find 35, I have been detecting about 2 years, but no success, but I will continue a gain and again.
I live I Torquay Devon UK. The problem here is land. We have tens of thousands of acres of land and they simply won't let you on it. I am surrounded by farms, not one will give me a permission. So sad.
I'll let you no by the end of next week lol as I get mine for me birthday. I won't give up as I like the outdoors and maybe finding something historical
Thank you for such nice words about starting out as I joined a group and got bullied for just finding old coins found that quite bad as we all start somewhere and I love just being out
All land is owned so in the UK you need the owners permission. Some public beaches allow metal detecting bur everywhere else needs permission. Is that not the case in the USA?
Really enjoy your channel. You actually make me laugh out loud! “... salute three times to the magpie “. Lol! I’m so new to this, I don’t even have a detector yet. I’ve recently moved to the coast here in Northern California, and beginning my homework before I make a purchase. I’m a new subscriber and look forward to viewing more episodes. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
hi mate are you in kent that cannon shell might be battle of britain iam from kent i live in newcastle australia now. i do newcastle beach nobbys beach and i use a garret at pro go on surfcam australia and you will see the beaches regards rob.
Me and my brother went metal detecting today and we found a lot of metal but it was deep down... definitely not pipes but we gave up after about 2 hours of digging down, we did manage to find a weird piece of unrusted metal that had slits in and on the back it had some sort of vent kind of thing.
The way i look at it, I'm just getting junk out of the ground with a chance of finding cool stuff.
i'm just in it for the fun :) i'm not expecting to find anything expensive, i think it's just fun to see what people drop
Ponk 80 me and my cousin just got a metal detector with our joint money, it arrives tomorrow. We'll absolutely do that one day! :)
yes we will :-)
I have to say that bullet looked like a carved bullet. They used to carve them to make game pieces. That one looked like a bishop from a chess game.
When I'm metal detecting, I talk to myself with your accent.
Was out yesterday and found loads of horseshoes but still loved every minute👍🏻😃
Horseshoes are the best. I have 36 after 6 months and every time I get one, my detecting trip feels complete.
Couldn't have put it better, exactly what metal detecting is all about for me. Keep up the excellent Vids
im not a hardcore metal detector i know what to expect it means i got to try more places. i never found anything worth while yet. this also goes for my magnet fishing found nothing of value its been about 2 years now.. its still fun

I agree with what he's saying 100% but 303 shells could be valuable if there in okay condition
Great video- subbed and liked :) shame about all the bullets on the first field but the second field made up for it. 100 acres is sweet
I intend to retire early and metal detecting is going to get me out into the beautiful British countryside, I walk a lot and already enjoy the countryside, when I retire I will have more time on my hands, so will combine the two.

I love your attitude...and your videos. 👍 I'm subbing.

I just love being outside with headphones that drown out the noise. It is also fun to find crazy stuff.
That ring looked like it had the the zoomorphic snake design from Medieval/Viking/Roman era
I stay with it for the thrill of "Its bound to happen, when you least expect it"

graet video but how can you say you found nothing you found a 3 ring sharps bullit from the 1800s I would be made up with that
Detecting is a good way to clear the mind. Today I found an explosive thing, a button, loads of rubbish and something that looks like a metal omelette. It was was good day.
That's a useful point of view for a beginner. Thx. Are you related to Colin Furze btw? :-)
+CheshireTomcat68 I'm not, but you won't believe how many people ask me that...I don't look anything like him! I think, lol
:-). Just fit a flamethrower to your detector!

hi bleeps are you in kent hellfire battle of britain corner from rob in australia
the first button you found in your video looks like a ww2 soldiers button.
I have only found junk but it's fun because my daughter and I are spending time together exploring. She could be sitting at home staring at her iPad.
And it will instill in her a love for the outdoors.
You have the best attitude for metal detecting, you have already found gold just by being out on the land. Alive i tell ya.
Thank you :)
I am a beginner metal detector and have only found 2 things so far: a 2012 P union shield penny and an empty beer can
detectorIST ... lol..
So 4 years later.. do you still metal detect?
It's typical of today's people, they want immediate rewards without any patience or the need for hard work.
What do you mean by 'todays people'?
Took up metal detecting 2 wks ago , i bought myself an XP Deus , I know the odds of findings gold/silver coins are about the same odds as winning the Lottery .
I detect to clean up the land a bit. It's interesting what's down there even if it's metal rings from broken bottles.
Good advice old mate... the finds are just a bonus.. be happy we're breathing 👍🍻🇦🇺

Daily Mail, Man attacked by a mutant tree. Whilst metal detecting.
Hi I love to see detectorists that have and live in an area where they are able to detect and find artifacts as I said I would like to
Do this hobby not for gain but historical as I live in an area steeped in history but bogged down in areas that are public and left to
Get littered with filth and rubbish and are called beauty spots,
Still at least I see you and people like you doing a nice hobby finding things it’s a pity not in my area I just wish this area could
Be detected as it is one of the oldest historical parts of England and areas that protected England’s past its a pity it’s in the no do
Doldrums so you carry on your good work so that I can get envious and watch your videos
All the best Douglas
Thanks Douglas :)
do i ask for permission from anyone, i live in the U.S.
Good stuff :D
I love your sense of humor. It is great.
Watched this months ago, rewatched and still learned something
I got a detector and gave up after my second trip out. Fast forward 3 years later and I take it out and find my first silver.
I've never looked back.
Happy hunting 🏴
As you said - expectation exaggerated by tube vids. The reality is you won't find a Saxon or Roman item if the Saxons or Romans never went near that bit of land! You are most likely to find bits of shrapnel, nuts and bolts that fell off machinery, horse-shoes, nails, etc. If you don't look at the ground you are standing on, you won't see the flint tool or pot sherd from the stone age, because flint and pot doesn't trigger a detector!
spent months, while in the outback , australia fossisiking
llke metal detectng without the gizmos found lots OF OPALS IN MINE TAILINGS HAD PERMISSION TO KEEP WHAT I FOUND GR EAT GREAT TIME. THE 35C + TEMP SOMETHNG ELSE to contend with
interesting !! and true
So sad.
I for one picked up my Nox 800 late July. 9 - 10 weeks now and frustrated...
Thanks for the great video and inspiring words.Cheers from Brazil
I would like to live in an ancient country with lots of history, not like... anyways..
Great video 🥇!
Looking at the maps and google earth are good ideas but have you tried looking at Lidar views too ? Check it out if you haven't.
I think you really have to consider the LOCATION just to give yourself a bit of an edge. 🤤
I'll let you no by the end of next week lol as I get mine for me birthday. I won't give up as I like the outdoors and maybe finding something historical
Thank you for such nice words about starting out as I joined a group and got bullied for just finding old coins found that quite bad as we all start somewhere and I love just being out
Well in case you forgot, they had a couple of World Wars over there, they may explain a few bullets and cartridges being found.
it is true that expectation is a problem but to be honest getting the permissions is worse.
just go to the wild nature like forest or mountain.
All land is owned so in the UK you need the owners permission. Some public beaches allow metal detecting bur everywhere else needs permission. Is that not the case in the USA?
Literally just bought my 1st detector should be getting it in a couple of days been waiting years absolutely buzzing.
Great video as usual mate... Well done and love the honesty.
Getting permissions is too difficult. Most land owners don't have time for you
Really enjoy your channel. You actually make me laugh out loud!
“... salute three times to the magpie “. Lol!
I’m so new to this, I don’t even have a detector yet. I’ve recently moved to the coast here in
Northern California, and beginning my homework before I make a purchase.
I’m a new subscriber and look forward to viewing more episodes.
Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you
Thanks and welcome :D

another great video thanks again
Me and my brother went metal detecting today and we found a lot of metal but it was deep down... definitely not pipes but we gave up after about 2 hours of digging down, we did manage to find a weird piece of unrusted metal that had slits in and on the back it had some sort of vent kind of thing.
You are hilarious!!! Just subbed to your Bleepin channel.
I agree. Don't expect. Just enjoy it. H H
I was scanning in belguim yesterday and we find and ammunatiion box with 50 unfired bullets in it
You are right most of the time I find trash But its the fun of the hunt....its getting outside and enjoying your time....
You are a fun guy, should be on TV, keep up the great work, btilliant.
