Comparing a portable Digital Audio Player to a desktop amp/DAC is a common dilemma. I personally use the DX320MAX occasionally as a streaming source in one of my setups. So far, I had it connected via its 3.5mm output, but I'm aware that iFi offers a cable that allows you to connect a 4.4mm balanced output to two XLR plugs.
It already sounds great like that, but I have a hunch that using a balanced connection will make the audio quality even better.
Anyway, if I had to choose between either a DAP or a proper DAC/Streamer, I'd consider the following:
DAPs are designed for on-the-go use, making it a great choice if you need portability and want to enjoy high-quality audio on the go.
A proper desktop AMP is more suitable for a dedicated listening setup at home, and may possibly offer more power and features than a DAP.
DAPs like the DX320MAX can also serve as standalone music players, often with streaming capabilities, while a desktop amp/DAC primarily functions as an audio source for your computer or other digital sources.
Think about where you do most of your listening. If you're constantly on the move, a DAP might be the more practical choice. If you prefer to sit and listen at home, a desktop solution could be better.

In response to your question about the A&K SP3000, I must state that I do not have the Astell & Kern A&ultima SP3000 on hand for a direct comparison. I did have the opportunity to demo it and found it to be outstanding. However, I must say that I am biased towards iBasso and prefer the DX320MAX.
