Eating Cold Noodle Flowing from Bamboo River

- Trying the most popular Flowing Somen (Nagashi Somen) restaurant in Japan.
A fun summer dish where you try to catch cold noodles sliding down bamboo poles!
Nagashi Somen @Hirobun
Starts at 11am and they stop accepting orders at 1pm
May - September
Incredibly gorgeous location, but I don't need this fast paced kind of anxiety with my lunch. 😂
My terrible hand-eye-coordination mixed with anxiety would leave me noodleless :P
It's basically a great experience ruined by the fact there is tons and tons of people
@@jadelynn1703 that’s exactly what I was thinking 😅 but the place is beautiful
@@ssonya_blad3282 it really is pretty
Thank you!
Your partner sharing some of the Pink noodles you missed is so wholesome 😭

There's actually a way you can tell when the noodles are coming! If you look carefully there's like a small burst of water about half a second before the noodles come out. Gives you time to prepare.
Also note that before it happens, the noodles block some of the water - the flow lessens before the brief burst.
aint no way ur telling me to prepare and train myself to caught some noodles bro😭 atp ima just eat at a normal restaurant

Underrated comment🤣
I would fail badly at this and end up not catching any of the noodles. But this concept is so unique and I love the sounds of the waterfall in the background
I would probably go hungry for that same reason
Its pretty gimmicky 😅
@@NadiaSeesIt Its not rly a gimmick as these noodles are traditionally served this way the real gimmick is them making it out to be something unique and exotic when the noodles are just your regular handmade noodles and the sauce is just a regular sauce
@@wassupbros4629 yeah i imagine it doesnt taste very special at all and its more of a tourist thing
@@lostpockets2227 The noodles might have a special texture but just purely looking at the sauce it seems like a mix of say sauce, mirin maybe some other simple ingredients
Nagashi Somen is eaten during the hot summer months and originated before the development of modern air conditioning. The flowing water helps keep the noodles cool, which conveys a refreshing sensation when eaten by diners.
After walking for 15 mins uphill in the hot summer heat, the people will be tired and stinky. I honestly can't see the attraction besides a novelty factor for tourists.
@@sharonr814 To each their own, different strokes for different folks.
This sounds absolutely amazing after a nice walk to such a gorgeous location. I could definitely see this being worth the effort, some of the good things in life are worth a bit of extra work. Kind of like how people enjoy going on long hikes and setting up a picnic, this isn’t really much different.
This would be a super relaxing mental health/self-care day lunch.
@@sharonr814 Well hon not everyone gets “tired and stinky” after 15 minutes of walking. Safe to say you’re obviously not the target audience for this.
I legit thought they were going to pick the noodles out of the river😂Honestly, that would've been far more interesting. The noodles would have a VERY interesting taste, being that it mixes with the bacteria and flora of the atmosphere. So now you literally FEEL the environment inside of you, and not just around you. It literally becomes a 4-dimensional kind of experience. But then again, the sanitation issue becomes the obstacle to that.
Dipping noodles, but your reflex is pretty much tested here. Pretty creative to say the least, you eat AND train at the same time!
This will never work in the US. Because the slow Karen or ADA member will complain to the manager or sue the restaurant for not being accommodating to their disability.
@TheAMTKCC_fan.Aren't you Inazuma's parcel delivery girl? 🤨

very interesting. thank you for showing us how to catch japanese noodles in their natural habitat.
🤣🤣🤣 rightttt
I eat vicariously through you two and gotta say, always full with awesome food and quiet adventures. You two are the best!! ❤
That was so much fun, thank you for taking us along and including the bus ride, scenery, menus, etc! Another epic video from Dancing Bacon!! ❤from 🇨🇦
How fun! The noodles go by much faster than expected! I'm left handed, so this would be a very challenging meal for me.
That was my first thought, too! I'd have to be suspended off the platform on the other side of the logs.
I mean, this restaurant would left handed you, pun intended
This is honestly a genius way of saving food. Everything that's sent down seems to be well portioned for only one bite. Grab, eat, and repeat until satisfied. The fact there is a good amount of time between each serving allows the body to adjust to what's already been consumed.
Eat until you're satisfied, not until you're full.
This has to be the most unique eating experience in the most beautiful settings. It's my favorite video by far. Thank you for sharing
Always a fun time seeing what's next for restaurants and food, you guys always surprise us. Thanks for sharing. 💕🥓
Kyoto is beautiful and people there are so nice. I had an exchange program once in our school with students of high school in Kyoto. The locals of Kyoto were so hard working and happy, made me wish to stay there forever.
How picturesque! 😍 even from your video I can tell that the air is beautifully fresh up on that mountain 🩷🌸
From the title and the thumbnail this looks like such a peaceful, meditative experience, but it's more like being a bear trying to smack salmon out of the river, except you're a vegetarian bear and the river is a log flume ride.
It looks fun but also stressful like playing a platformer game with timed sections!
Also, all that running water with no restrooms and long waiting times could be difficult! 😂
watching these videos have opened me up to try so many new delicious things, im very grateful to experience things i never will through such great people
I would love to try the full service restaurant up top and just watch the noodle fishers 😊
How wonderful. Thank you for this. Really appreciate all your hard work!
Thank you for your peaceful and comforting videos
The beauty of that place poked me in the soul ❤️❤️
Somen is great in during the summer. You cook it and then put it in an ice bath and it's a super refreshing way to have noodles when it hot without also eating hot noodles. I eat mine with grated ginger, katsuobushi, green onions, and sesame seeds.
Wow, it’s so beautiful there❣️I love cold Japanese noodles. 😋
What a beautiful calming place❤
its so much fun watching youre videos no talking but more natural or calmer noises
The place is wonderful to spending quality time with families ❤
I WANT TO GO THERE!!
Lol, I want to go everywhere that they go❣️🥰😋
How beautiful. Such a unique place. ❤
I always love when DancingBacons uploads a new video ❤
The profit this restaurant brings in must be astonishing. Wow.
Thanks for da upload! Really enjoyed it. Cookin and food is a kind of art and feel like the japanese cuisine is not only very diverse, but also highlights this aspect a lot. Like your content. Hope to eat something like that too one day! 😁🤤 Straight from da bamboo~
Anxiety noodles.
Very unique approach to eating noodles. Thank you for sharing. 😊
I wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of this, but seeing it in action, it actually looks pretty fun! The backdrop is a really nice touch, too.
I'd still rather eat the traditional way, though. :P
That water looked so Pure, I would miss All the noodles zoning out to the waterfalls 🌊
Also, Mrs Bacon Always has your back, excellent catch (lit & fig!)
This is on my to do list for when I go to Japan!!!
Noticed there is a tell when noodles are about to appear, the water flow speeds up, giving you a few extra seconds to react.
The most important part of my daily routine: watching a DB video as soon as it's posted❣😄
Great and differnt restaurant experience. Learning something new when I watch you videos. 💜💛💜💛
Thank you for sharing with us. My spouse and I always enjoy your content. Keep up the great work! (Say "Hi" to your partner also, it is always a pleasure to see you both.)
I’ve always wanted to see this and I think it’s awesome! I would love to visit that place.
Very cool idea I love the nature and the concept once in a life time kinda place..
I remember when Mike Chen went here! It looks amazing 🤩
Lugares lindos e especiais❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing, A Beautiful place.👍
I remember watching such concept in Doraemon and Shin Chan back in the days and ngl I was fascinated. This is just so calming
The place looks beautiful and the noodles look good. It looks like fun trying to catch the noodles, too! I wonder what they do to the uncaught noodles though.
I wonder what they do with the uncaught noodles?
The uncaught noodles are just put back to the bamboo stream (i don’t know what to call it) But u get the idea
What an interesting concept, thank you 🙏 for sharing:) 🍜
Ah yes, a “bamboo” river.
It’s fascinating and everything, the scenery is amazing and I’d like to give it a shot, but guarantee I’d miss a lot of it.
Next time I go to Japan, I may have to try this out, for sure!
This seems like such an amazing experience, I am adding it to my bucket list.
Japan has such creative restaurants. The experience adds to the elegance of the meal. I've only been in Japan once, a four hour layover in the Osaka airport. I didn't eat but it was a very pleasant wait.
This seems like more of an experience than a full on meal. Very beautiful scenery and experience tho!
I cannot imagine I would enjoy cold noodles. But the scenery is amazing
You'd be surprised, it's not as strange as you'd imagine. Maybe like Spaghetti from the fridge 😂
You guys go to the coolest places!
Please be careful!! A lot of people recently got sick eating at a noodle slide restaurant!
It seems the spot used actual river water.. Or stream water. Which is never a good idea!!
they use the same chopsticks for catching noodles and eating. i think that why.
Thank you for the wonderful video of eating Takegawa cold noodles 👍
I have mixed feeling about this. I just want to relax and take my time when eating. Here, i have to eat fast, not just because of the long waiting line behind me, but you never know when the noodles might come out.
I love this place!
I would love to try this experience, looks fun.
Thank you I was thinking about this the other day and hoping you would go visit one again.
It won’t be so hygiene for each and every customer when the first person who had already dipped the chopsticks in the flowing water, but it’s a good experience to eat noodles 🍜 that is “free flow” 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a horrible concept for a meal😂 but the location was beautiful 🤩
We drove there and the road is narrow and had some tight turns and even have to back up on a private parking lot for oncoming traffic. We waited for a couple hours and the actual time we spent eating was
I wonder what they do with the un-caught noodles 😔
I guess they just give it another slide. 😂
Looks super fun!!! I don’t think I would be full at the end of a lunch of pure noodles tho 😆 would probably hit the upper restaurant part afterwards
Um lugar lindíssimo, mas é incrível como todos acham o restaurante impressionante somente por ser no Japão😅
What an interesting way to eat noodles! The person feeding the noodles through the bamboo pipes must have a lot fun. 😂
Yeah... his spit will unnoticeable, and blended in with water
Like catching food in the wild...salmon run.
Neat bus ride and walk...like a theme park...maybe better at crowd control 😎
interesting and fun concept for a restaurant
This is incredible.
Natural Colourful food .. Excellent
Haha I would never want to eat this way but it was very interesting to see

i love reading comments on videos of these type of restaurants because you can really tell who actually watched and who saw the picture, made incorrect assumptions, and got upset

it looks lovely but I wouldn't be able to handle missing a noodle set. I'd probably end up doing the other part of the resturant

It wouldnt be something I would chose to do as I prefer to relax to eat but it is a beautiful location. I would opt for the regular dining experience though as the water is amazing sounding. Neat idea though. I do ownder though if the different tube have different numbers of people as it did seem as though the furthest tube got triple noodles while I feel you got a few bites each
Things like this looks fun but becomes even better when experienced personally. Thanks for sharing this cold and refreshing show to us lad. I guess those yakuza games does mirror reality, instead of telephone QTE its your food that is needed to be timely moved at.
...All that flowing water, and no bathrooms? Eeeevil....
Edit: Though come to think of it, you don't seem to get anything to drink with the meal, either...just the water off the noodles.
imagine the saliva from the front people streaming together with the noodles 😋😋😋😋😋
Love the spider appreciation ❤
That does look fun. I might miss one or two. I'm curious about the restaurant on top though! 😅

Japan really does have a unique and appealing animation style for advertising I’ve noticed. The sign with all the sites looks so much better than some of the bland dreary art styles used for advertising here in America.
Ours can seem lifeless. While I look at that sign and it feels full of life. Idk, maybe I just miss the days when we would get signs and ads similar to that here in America, before it all became so….corporate and cold.
It's not just the signs bro😂There are a lot of facets in Japanese culture that are very vibrant, but YT loves to promote Japan as "a declining country full of hikikomoris", which is far from the truth lol. I grew up with jrpgs, and concluded that the Japanese make the most impressive music I've ever heard. I don't know how they do it, I assume they're just gifted, but they compose the most extraordinary soundtracks I ever listened to. I'm quite the fan of many western songs, but I feel like they just don't compare to the level on ingenuity done by the Japanese. Somehow all the best songs I found to be in their video games like Final Fantasy VI/VII, Chrono Trigger, and Lunar😂
It's a fun light snack of a meal. Interesting, but I didn't see a price. I guess I will have to re-watch it to see.
What a beautiful place and fun way to eat! I would love it, i started teaching myself to use chopsticks when i was 5, my dad was stationed in Okinawa and used them, and i thought it was the coolest thing ever. My lady? Not so much, she struggles with large chunks of meat.😂
Legit this is a nichijou skit
