I have to say, you have incredible vision and preplanning intuition for this game. This is a brutally hard map, and for a blind playthrough 3.5k trips is phenomenal. It's great to see and hear your thought process as you progress through each game week. Now that you know there's only a single red spawn and know about the huge green population on the right side, I'm certain you can get that 6k you're after!
Wow, thanks! That's definitely a good way to put it - vision! I've put a lot of time into this game, so it's nice to hear when people tell me this! It's very fulfilling, I guess! I'll keep playing my best and hopefully inspire you to get 6K as well :)
Real Civil Engineer calls it day old ham and fresh ham. He also confuses which one is which sometimes.

Retroflux, a few things. 1) Love the references. Both the clone wars "just like the simulations" and the real civil engineer lol. 2) I love your MM content. Keep it up! I checked each day for the last two days since you made that status where you said you would post a vid. Even if it's not blind or groundbreaking, love the MM content. Especially the deep dives.
Deep dives are my favourite to make, it's just a lot of effort lol, like on the order of 10s or 100s of hours instead of 1-3 hours for a normal MM video. 🙃
It bothers me that you wrote "1)" and then never had a "2)" or anything x.x
Oh, I do that all the time, I didn't even notice LOL I've actually got that exact thing in one of the upcoming videos I'm creating because, after the script was finalized and recorded, I edited in an overlay clip where the "2)" would go, so my list is ruined but the script keeps going 😂

@@Retroflux I totally get that it takes you a lot longer. :/ I'm in academia, so I totally get the research process and how much time is spent chasing theories that might turn up to nothing haha. (Most of them do haha)
I don't watch a lot of MM content, but I haven't found (and haven't searched) for a content creator that makes an effort to explain the game thoroughly. It seems like people just record themselves playing and talk about whatever. Maybe this is a market to capitalize on? Maybe it's not a big enough market to be meaningful haha idk.

My favorite MM content creator. I enjoy them so much and they help me a lot in finding efficiencies in my games as well. Keep it up. I was so excited to see this new map added.
I think a traffic light outside that green business on the white/tan line might have helped out a lot. The slowdown at that spot is what kept the cars from moving smoothly there.
The only other thing I could spot that might have helped earlier on would have been taking the tan population at the bottom center around to the right of the green business with the bridge, then connecting the four green houses to the left of the tan houses directly to the green business. It would have been a much shorter trip for them, and the four probably could have sustained the circular business for a bit.
That final motorway you picked up could possibly have saved the white population as well, but I think the greens screwed it with that traffic jam.
i have noticed much different game play since the update. a lot of fun to adjust to the new mechanics
Ditto! Although some maps have become quite frustrating as well.
Tokyo absolutely murders me after the new patch - I'm really enjoying Wellington right now though! It's a fresh map and seems to play different from the others.

@@GTAxB0SS LOL when you play as much as I do and are basically forced to rewatch all of your games, it's very eye opening, planning strategies come naturally after 100 hours of play, editing, and analysis :)
Tip: When placing roads to block spawning(or just pre-emptive placing), place them in 2-piece segments, instead of one road, dragging it all the way.. same performance, 50% less roads

43:43 the traffic jam starts when the cream car just randomly turns towards the dark blue house lol. So weird.

I got inundated with a mega project that took me away from MM for a while, and gave myself a hard deadline that quickly procrastinated it's way to my front door 😂 but it's done and now I'm pushing for 10K wellington, hopefully before I get distracted from everything again and Darkest Dungeon 2 comes out

Red is what killed me on my play through on this map. I haven't been brave enough to attempt it again yet.
Pro tip: Make red the top dog in your planning - if you can drive a road through all of your other developments and slow them all down BUT red gets preferential treatment, 100% do it. All of the red pips for the entire game go to that one structure, you HAVE TO hold its hand the entire time.
I stopped playing after the major traffic change patches because I started dying like this every game. Almost never lost to uncontrollable flow, but instead to "i deleted a traffic circle and now all the cars there just stopped randomly and won't drive, or are trying to drive into the wrong colored house etc". Super frustrating.
Having had it happen to me so many times though, I've figured out unreliable ways to unstick it. Basically on top of and around the stuck traffic, just create intersections on pause, unpause briefly, delete them, unpause briefly again, rinse and repeat until cars are driving over each other and unsticking the spot. Kind of like what you managed to do right at the end, but force it to happen earlier before unrecoverable
I just tried the "exit game and reload", and it might have worked, but there were still some cars that had to find a new home to reset in, which cost me the run. It was rough, and I can definitely relate to your sentiment. Hopefully you can at least enjoy the game by proxy through me, though!
Thinking, try mixing up to two or three colours maybe, saves road tiles, but add more traffic lights
just finished my first wellington run earlier today, got 2.7K personally, compared to my manila 3.7K first attempt

You are a god gamer if you believe it and others do too 😤 nice run, either way! Wellington is a difficult one, I still struggle with dark blue on it a lot. Blocking might be the solution, but it's my least favourite solution!

Good job. I was looking forward to this video. Only got 1k trips on my first attempt.
I got that one my third attempt - sometimes this map just does you dirty. I found that 3+ tunnels and 2 motorways is the bare minimum that you can survive on in this map, so always take those instead of roundabouts and traffic lights if you're offered that!
@@Retroflux Thanks for the tips! I've managed to get slightly better scores in a couple of times I have tried since, but still haven't cracked 2k.

OMG RETROFLUX! I GOT 4467 ON ATTEMPT 2!! I did it with 5 motorways and got 333rd place on Oct 30
!!! Well that really makes my latest attempt of 4100 seem not very good LOL! Super cool though, congrats on the score!!!!

Was there a reverse change to do with the drives? Seem really paranoid again about them impacting things

(Also also, nice to see all unconnected houses flash now, not just new ones, potentially easier to see disconnects like that red in the future?)
They've updated/tweaked the pathfinding to have a failsafe option to go into a nearby house and turn around, but then I start moving too fast and a car can't figure out where to go lol. I think that's what happened in this run - disconnected things too quickly and a car slated to enter into another colour's house got locked out somehow.

Could you have replaced motorway #3 with a tunnel at ~ 38:00 ?
Yes, however very shortly after I'd probably have to rip it out so I could use the second tunnel for the top chunk. Maybe if I got another tunnel, yes, but not sure.
God I am hating this map lol I mean, I love having a new map, but I've come to resent the "motorways can't go over mountains" text so much lol GIVE ME TUNNELS THEN YOU-
I actually was given a mulligan because of that bug. I was on the weekly challenge in Dubai and my cars decided they didn't want to go on the motorway anymore when I was at 670 trips. But for some reason, that didn't count as a score submission, so I tried again and got to 2400 trips without the bug, and that score counted. I don't know what happened.

I'm certainly not at the point where I deserve a Patreon, I still have a lot to learn before I'll accept anyone's money just for posting a video 😂 maybe some day, though it's only been a couple months!

Always pick motorway unless the motorway will kill you, then pick two motorways
