Thank you for teaching this. You are a very good teacher. I sure wish I could paint like you. I’m only a beginner. I’m sure you were once a beginner too. It takes time and patience I assume.
Love, love, love snow. We don't get nearly enough in KC, MO. I grew up on LI, NY. Preparedness is the key to enjoying. Have you ever experienced the silence and stillness after a big snow? Magical.
This is not related to this particular video, but I did not know where else to post it. I want to sincerely thank you! I started watercolor a year ago (self taught..paint 2-4 hrs a day... yes I am consumed with this). I have probably painted 1000 trees, not one of which I was pleased with UNTIL I watched one of your videos from 4 years ago and you said to think"clouds." And you painted from the bottom up. Boom my trees look fabulous. You are the best!!!
I really appreciate you doing a wonderful winter ❄️ scenery painting. I am thrilled to hear about the 3 ways to approach painting this kind of painting. I understand completely how you feel about the snow being around more the a few days & being tired of it. White Christmas 🎄& enjoyable for a day or two 🥶but then I am ready for the warm sunshine. I am also glad to know that I have been using the same three colors (Cobalt Blue, Cereulean Blue, & Payne’s Gray) for my attempts to paint winter scenery. I have really enjoyed learning how to get the shading details right. Thanks for sharing this fun video.
I am watching your tutorial while a blizzard is raging outside here in North Central Montana!! This is our 3rd major snow event. Add the cold temps to this... I'm definitely done with Winter already and it's really only begun!!! Ugh!!! Lovely painting however Steve!!
Thank you for this lesson. We are on day 3 of a 4 day winter storm. The oak tree in front of my studio is so weighed down with snow that the branches are touching the ground. Snow is beautiful, and dangerous.
Thank you! My back yard is gorgeous right now ... very winter-wonderlandish, like God dusted everything with powdered sugar. I love to look at it, but painting it in watercolor has just been far too intimidating. Maybe I'll give it a go. :)
I am commenting before watching, because I need to thank Steve Mitchell for so much that i have learned with your videos. Especially about M.Graham watercolors and white gouache and colored pencils. I have practised with these and the evolution in my paintings are incredible, thanks to this amazing artist and teacher! Hugs from Brazil.
Just found you and I'm officially binge watching 😆 love your style and teaching. My mother discouraged me from watercolors when I was younger. Now I'm immersing myself and loving every minute! Thank you for sharing your talent!
Beautiful as always. I LOVE snow - would rather have my yard sparkle white, the houses with dollops of snow hanging over the eves like frosting and the trees frosted than green grass and leaves. Good thing I live in the North where we have more months of snow than not. I can't imagine Christmas without it. Love your painting - thanks for sharing your techniques.
Thank you I find for me it’s the values that get me so watching this is very informative ❤😊 . We’re in Ontario so about six months of the snowy stuff to have fun .😊
This is absolutely stunning. I live in western Michigan, and we get lots and lots of snow. I have been very intimidated to try to paint it because of the lack of color but you showed me a completely different concept to painting snow. Thank you again.
I'm in south central Mich too and (don't tell anybody) I really enjoy a fresh snowfall. I think Steve did an excellent job at capturing the mood with a very limited palette.
@@mrspock2al we get lake effect snow ❄️ and it is absolutely beautiful! I am grateful I do not have to be in the heavy storms so I sit at my art table and just watch it fall. 😌
Steve this is wonderful. You rarely do it but can you do an episode on drawing. You are a great draftsman and would like some tips. Also your composition here came naturally to you, but maybe some help for us.
Great job, Steve, and amazing colours. But I'm not gonna lie - I'm watching this and salivating over how this would look painted with the Schmincke tundra supergranulators!
This is way out of my skill range, but I really enjoyed watching. Thank you for another great video from the middle of PA. We know snow. This made me shiver & cringe but it was a joy to watch.
Amazing. I’m hooked on your videos. I’m like binge watching! I love your style, your gentle explanations your quirky humor w/ the inserts of the movie clips. All if it! Greetings from snow county Vermont!
I bet you people in Vermont are ever colder than WA state. It got to only 6 below out here this year. Ick. My husband even had to stay in most of the time. Normally here would not be fased in the least.
Hi! Sorry - not sure where to post this question. What is the music used in the SHORT version of this Snow Covered Trees? Thanks so much for all your wonderful demos & relevent info you share to the community! Merry Christmas.
I just stumbled across your channel and this is gorgeous! I live in NYS and really really REALLY dislike snow but I do enjoy painting it and this is just perfect! Thank you so much for sharing your technique! New subscriber for sure
Hello Steve, again just a marvelous demonstration of "how to..." I have a question regarding painting a snow scene. I am painting the Chapel in Yosemite (I am very lucky to live very close to Yosemite Valley). I have completed a summer version of this chapel and now I going to attempt to do the same chapel but it is a from several years ago. The foreground has changed somewhat but not the background. So my question is in you demonstration you have a few trees (evergreens) and the snow piled on looks great. In Yosemite there are several varieties of trees; deciduous as well as evergreens.. How do/what suggestion do you have for painting the deciduous trees are just finishing up the fall loosing of leaves and have a few inches of fresh early snow fall. Thanks for any tips and or references on where to look for approaching how to painting snow. Thank you very much. Blessings.
Snow is just another one of Gods greatest creations.
This is a lovely winter scene. I've never lived around snow. either'
Thank you for teaching this. You are a very good teacher. I sure wish I could paint like you. I’m only a beginner. I’m sure you were once a beginner too. It takes time and patience I assume.
One day of snow is enough for me.
Lol, I live in Michigan and I have my fill of snow after the first storm! It is beautiful, though!

Yessss! Thank you!
Thank you, it's awesome!
LOADED with great techniques. Thanks, Steve!
'Paint the shapes' is something I need to remember! I usually find an interesting detail in something and get totally caught up on it. 😊
Pleasure to watch.
It's been snowing for 3 days at Tahoe.😀
Thanks for your wonderful demo.
That's just what I wanted to practice, thank you! :)
Snow is beautiful. I
Appreciate this information. Come to Eastern Oregon and you will fall in love with its beauty!
Thanks! I think snow is beautiful already. I just don't like the eventual mess.
This really is beautiful! The trees were negative painted until they were surrounded with paint. So beautiful!
I watched it last year, and again this year. Magical. Thanks Steve!

I live in snow country. And there are some beautiful snow scenes. This has helped, since I’m a beginner.Thank you!
Love snow and snow scenes! Maybe because I 'm from Massachusetts. Thanks for this great lesson!
One does have to love the changes in seasons to live up here in the north! Thanks for painting this one!
Why are you an Alabama fan? I love it..... ROLL TIDE!!!!

Very nice. You’re welcome to visit Western Canada where we have true winter. Today started with -31 C - not a plein air day.
😲
worth the wait!!!

Hello from Maine! I get tired of snow around April each year. Thank you for another great demo!
So lovely
Yup, the cold sucks, but you made it look so pretty!!
Wonderfully beautiful, Steve! I enjoyed watching you paint and describe this!
I should send you some pictures of snow here in Alaska… we’ve got plenty of it this year!
Thanks Steve! You are right I watch so many different ways to paint snow. I like how you handle it.

Wow, what a great painting, especially since it’s not something you regularly paint! Thanks so much.
Love this! I’m from snow country can’t imagine not enjoying the snow. Thanks for the beautiful picture
Thanks! It's lovely while it's falling. Hate the slushy mess later.
As ever, a great demonstrstion and also very timely verse at the end.
I’ve always loved snow since I was a child and still pray for snow on my birthday ! Love your videos thank you
The result is amazing, although you didn't really feel like painting snow. 🤗 I hope you changed your mind in the meantime😊🌠🎄🍀
Definitely enjoyed doing the painting. Would not enjoy the actual snow after a few days.

Beautiful. Love all your videos and your fabulous instructions and tips
Thanks for doing a snow painting - looks so pretty!
Thanks for the laugh. That snow scene 🤣
Love it
Your snow seen looks lovely. Although I'm no expert as I live in Queensland, Australia, so snow for Christmas will never happen.
Thanks very much!! Good usable tips and a really nice scene!!

it was incredibly fun and informative video. love seeing how monochromatic yet vibrant the piece turned out.
Gorgeous painting Steve. Very interesting to watch your process.
Beautiful 🤩 and I learnt a lot 🙏🏻 thanks for sharing 🤗
A useful video, indeed. I particularly liked the tonal buildup and the way in which you painted the undulations in the ground. Thanks!
LOVE it….❤…awesome snow scenery made simple….miss painting….I want to start again…..best wishes for Christmas + New Year Steve 🎉🎄
This turned out very nice. I really like the background change. It added so much interest to the final painting. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful painting, lovely to see you create something so different

I remember our white Christmas and a white New Years Eve that year. They were both beautiful snows.
Haha, you wouldn't do well in Mn! I love painting winter scenes. Your's is gorgeous 😍
Nope, not in the winter anyway. Lovely state. Have visited there a few times but it was summer. 😄

Just look for good deciduous tree (with snow) photo reference.
New subscriber, I love the cobalt blue color
I'll try your advice here! Do you know what old movie that little blip was from? All big stars!
The movie was White Christmas.
@@mindofwatercolorThank you!! I should have remembered that, time to watch it again!
🙏🌊🔱🌪️🌪️🌪️
I love this. When you do the shadows where it’s a second layer. Are you using the same color but with less water so it shows darker?
Sometimes or also adding a little darker color.
@@mindofwatercolor ok, cool! Thank you so much!!! 💜
