There was a gigantic controversy when a Reddit post accused the NBA of being rigged. A fan noticed that Jaren Jackson Jr.’s defensive stats were extremely lopsided at home so he accused the home scorekeeper of being corrupt. The NBA took the allegation so seriously the Commissioner Adam Silver had an emergency meeting 24 hours after the post. This is a look at whether the Reddit user is onto something.

but the nba is rigged, has been for years. tim donaghy was a scapegoat, you really think he is the one and only one to rig games. in no other professional sport especially in the big 4 do the refs have as much power and control as they do in the nba. two quick ticky tack fouls and you can have your best player on the court sitting in the first quarter. Imagine if tom brady was sitting out with 10 minutes left of the first quarter. refs also control the pacing of the game, sometimes they let them play on, sometimes its little ticky tack, sometimes thats a good no contact, sometimes its you breath on me and its a foul. refs control and dictate wayyyyyy to much of the nba.

People never talk about the league "points of emphasis" mentioned by Donaghy. The NBA throws games by telling officials to call certain fouls against teams or players on a game by game basis.
He mentions how Allen Iverson carried the ball the whole year and right before a big game they came down on him. Oftentimes points of emphasis would all go against one team to lengthen a playoff series. Remember Golden State and the Cavs in the finals?

I think they do it reverse. Under the leather there is metal wrapped under leather but so small you don't know difference. The rim is actually a electro magnet being able to kick it on with switch when they need a basketball to go in. All someone has to do to find out is to steal NBA game ball. Run like they never ran before , then dissect the ball to prove it's got stuff in ball to make it magnetic. Or wear magnet gloves and say hey let me take a shot. If the ball sticks , we know what's going on. I've seriously been saying this since Jordan was making every shot he took in the 90s. Vegas probably holds the switch that kicks on and off the electro magnetic rim. See those electro magnets can be fine tuned too. Like maybe they don't want a shot to go in. The reverse the magnetism so the ball won't go through rim. Ever seen some one try dunking just to see ball bounce out of rim with force. That's the electro magnet working in reverse. I know this is a funny topic but Why wouldn't a multi billion dollar industry not do use electro magnetism to dictate games life. I say for sure their doing it on all professional levels including college, especially college quadruple overtime games every game 😂

Because I've seen NBA games where an over/under or point spread bet would be as likely an explanation for the calls as incompetence. I mean, two quick first quarter fouls on a particular player and your "under" prop bet for their points might just pay off. I’m not arguing for one side or the other, but I think its worth noting. if the score keeper IS doing this with gambling motives, its definitely for DPOY and not game prop bets. when it comes to props the sportsbook will just find third party stats that don’t give him as many blocks or steals. these are much more “subjective” stats and one party might count a block as a steal or vice versa. or one party might give a block to one player instead of another. I’ve seen people think their bets hit because they are looking at one box score, but theres another respected source where the bet doesn’t hit according to their box score. The sportsbook picks the source thats advantageous to them every time. The books have no way of denying someone winning DPOY. Again I’m not saying the stat keeper did or didnt do it on purpose. Just pointing out that theres not much to gain from game props, and while you could argue for the DPOY award, there are so many different variables that it seems extremely risky to throw down 10k and hope your extra 2 blocks or steals at home games is going to be the difference maker.
