- Today we dive into Norwegian new wave band A-HA. "Manhattan Skyline" was the third single from their second studio album SCOUNDREL DAYS released in February 1987. The single reached number 13 in the UK and number 4 in Norway !
What Do Ya'll Think ?!
someone called aha for a pop band on stage with the aha boys behind in the 80s, and paul from aha disliked it, so he took the microfphone and said we are also a rock band. either -the living daylights or I`ve been loosing you are my fav rock aha songs
Enjoyed their first album but had become obsessed by heavy metal before the second so this totally passed me by at the time and for a very long time; I somehow had never knowingly heard it until two or three years ago. Fantastic track.
morten harket- a kind of christmas card`` is another incredible song, even the song ``brother`` from morten harket
A-Ha is huge internationally. UNfortunately American taste never kept up. Saw these guys in 1985 at Radio City Music Hall. PHENOM!
Wow, what a Fab concert to see in 1985 😎🤟🏼
alot of big bands were inspired by aha. U2 even said aha is crimanlly underrated and mistunderstood band. Coldplay was inspired by aha, Oasis was ofc back in the 90s, Keane etc etc
EUA não fazem música ou esportes, fazem política e guerra. Se tocassem A-Ha, os Noruegueses seriam imbatíveis. Não fazer sucesso nos EUA é o maior dos elogios. A-Ha é superior a todas as bandas da música pop.
Im 23 and I also love a-ha. I think well made music easily traverse different cultures and eras ♥
Very True. Greatness transcends all generations 😎😎
Hi from UK Birmingham 🤓.
Saw your video what a great review. I've been a fan of A-ha since 1985 school days. This song is so mellow then goes hard rock really good Bon Jovi vibes 🎸🥰💎
Funny to see Ty’s facial expressions throughout this classic tune 😄 Be sure to check out the live version where Morten is, if possible, even more impressive: ua-cam.com/video/LvuNJGGosFg/v-deo.html
Your right Peter, A-HA live is pretty impressive indeed 😎✌🏼
The body and soul is powerless to resist that 80's snare drum S N A P
Love A-ha, one of my favourite bands. Good surprise for me that you react to both them and MUSE. Now if only you'd check out Mew the circle would be complete. (Danish band, their best album is Frengers and the first track is as good as any to start with )
The thrilling 'Scoundrel days' and of course 'Hunting high and low' (the official video) next ones plz.
Dad you have to show your son live stuff. Particularly from the 90’s when they were at their most organic and raw live.
Ty's face when the guitar starts says everything!
I love this song, Mortens vocal's are so melodic then the synth rock comes in WOW, Great Tune
It really is a Fab underrated tune 😎
I love this album. It's my favorite of theirs and a big favorite overall of the period and in general.
As a huge fan of A-ha (OMG, I saw this live in Rock in Rio, it was a masterpiece! ), I feel so happy seeing new generation in North America realising that A-ha is more than Take on Me (don’t get me wrong, I think that Take on me is a milestone in world music).
Thanks daddy for introducing Ty to one of my favorites by A-ha!
Still holding my breath for “The blood that moves the body”. 😊
It's OK Les, not all Americans bailed on A-HA in the 80's, ha 😎 Plenty of us have followed them since 1985 and do realize they are absolute legends and up there with the best of all time 😎🤟🏼 Morten Harket pure legend
YES!!! GO, Ty!!! His face when the guitar kicked in! “Hard as sh@t!” Thanks, guys! You made my day! 😎❤️
Rad 😎🤙🏼
@@reactionextraction And the album version is even better because they cutted about 40 seconds for the music video.
Great reaction, A-ha are hugely underrated, If you want more A-ha rock have a listen to Sycamore Leaves
Thanks, my sons are 21 & 18. A-ha is definitely on their playlist since young
That's awesome ... A-HA should be on every young persons playlist yes 😎 just a classic band all around ✌🏼
Oh my play him the NRK live version
One of my absolute favorites. Melancholy but rocking at the same time. Nice to see it here.
Brilliant song. A-ha underrated like Simple minds.
Great that Ty loved this! Amazing song ( but that coming from a long-time fan who loves just about all the directions they've went). Would love to see a reaction to their live performances (as Mark said, their 90s shows were quite phenomenal). 'East of the Sun, West of the Moon' or 'Early Morning' from their NRK live session would be my pics.
One of their best songs, fantastic !
One of my favourite A-ha songs. The switch-ups get me every time. ❤I always had the impression when they recorded this they just said F*** it let's rock !
Let's Rock 😎🤘🏼!
Yeah, this is one of my favorite A-ha songs. Such great individual sections in this one. It's both mellow and rocky at the same time.
One of my fav a-ha songs!
From the first time I saw Aha live in Trondheim in 1987 I've been a huge fan. This song is great and the album Scoundrel Days is a masterpiece. You should definitely check out the title song - its epic! Thanks for another great reaction guys😎
Thx Willi 😎 your right Scoundrel Days is a pure classic album by them 😎🤟🏼
Magne as you know wrote the quite part and Paul wrote the heavy bit. As they called it the best cut and paste job.
🥰🥰🥰 Me encanta A-ha es mi segundo grupo favorito.
P. S. I saw a “metalhead reacts” to this where he was inclined to hate it, but what really impressed him was how seamlessly they combined the verses (in 3/4) and the chorus (in 4/4.) I had never thought of that. It was a good catch.
Very Nice 😎 Fab points
It was really interesting, actually.

Они классные
Love this song 😍 another one The Blood that moves the body
My 16 year old female babysitter used to bring this album over. When she'd get to the end of "I've Been Losing You", she'd flip it over, saying 'the next two songs are crap' ('October', 'Manhattan Skyline'). Oh dear.
Oh Dear is right , ha 😎
I thought you had lost Ty completely on a-ha since it took some time for you to come back to them. Nice reaction, and fun to see how he as a young man likes it.
Did you know that a-ha really had to fight to get Manhattan Skyline on single? The record company wanted more poppy stuff, but a-ha themselves wanted to take the band in another direction. They argued that Bohemian Rhapsody had come out as a single, so a different kind of song like Manhattan Skyline should also get the chance. And they were right. This is one of the really great classics from them.
Thx for the Great info 😎 It really is a classic tune !
This song got my brother to love them, he was a hard rock fan at the time, he loved this song❤️ he left me i 2016 to a better worls, but I thank him for bringing this gem to me❤️
An absolutely fantastic production, this sound draws the world of the 80s absolutely in all its facets. These powerful mighty, priceless Waldorf PPG Wave sounds used here at the time are responsible for this crystal sharp 80ies sound, played around by yamaha's DX FM/Roland D50 synthesizers. the spherical spatial depth came from the famous Lexicon reverberation devices. I find the fat snare drum particularly impressive, it bangs, was also hoisted through umpteen EQs compressors, it must have taken an awful lot of time to get this sound right, the engineers screwed their fingers sore on the devices until it got like this sounded like it sounds.
Pretty amazing tune & way underrated 😎 I jam every time I hear it 😎🤟🏼
Love this album, so many great songs. Check out the NRK live from 1991 version. All of the songs from that performance is great. Maybe next song should be Sycamore leaves?
It would be great if you could react to a-ha's Cold As Stone from their Memorial Beach album. Great guitar work, brilliant drums, fantastic vocals as always from Morten and harmonies from Paul and Mags. Quite rocky but more bluesy? It's over 8 minutes long and you must listen to the end. I think it will be audio only - I can't remember seeing a video/live performance - if there is, I'm sure someone will tell us.
Cool you did like it, next you should try Train of thoughts, from the same album as Take on me. Greetings from Sweden.
Hello Robert, greetings to you in Sweden ... Train Of Thought is a fab tune indeed 😎 Cheers from Dallas 😎✌🏼
I feel you by Depeche Mode is also a great example of mixing guitars with electronic sound. I believe one of their best songs.
Yes indeed, Good call on that one Alexandros 😎
@@reactionextraction Well I'm not sure if you also know the beatmasters mix of Depeche Modes Route 66 that was a big hit in Europe and played almost in every club. The album version is a bit boring for my taste.
Я была на двух концертах, не когда бы не подумала, что такое случится
Show him Summer Moved On Live from Oslo Spektrum.
Your reaction is so good subbed!
Thank You Mia 😎 Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy our little channel 🤘🏼😎
Great song!
So interesting to hear both your takes on a-ha. And for listening to more songs from their catalogue.
What about Sycamore Leaves? ua-cam.com/video/UdtzepFyP0Y/v-deo.html
Or maybe Cold as Stone, Analogue, How Sweet It Was, or Celice?
some pretty great songs there 😎
Epic a-ha! Ty, are you an a-ha fan now?? PS - no more man on the moon - ha ha!
Yes Ty is a big fan now😎🤟🏼🇳🇴
No doubt in my mind that if streaming services and youtube existed in the 80s a lot of bands would have been bigger.
I definitely agree with you on that 😎👍🏼
A-ha never get any cred for dark wave, yet most of their songs are quite dark all through their career. So where do i request songs here?
Hello Mark 😎 you can make request on any reaction episode 😎 we love to take request anywhere anytime 😎🤟🏼
@@reactionextraction i’m gonna.
❤️
Brasil. Aqui 👍👏👏👏👏
Lol, 50 too, great song this by aha
My wife dragged me to an aha concert in 2018. They played this and honestly the live version was better. Perhaps being more seasoned help, but his voice is still the same.
A-ha is not a pure pop band but a Rock/Pop/Blues Band. The whole 90ies was their Rock decade and their albums from the 90ies are my favourites. The Albums "East of the Sun West of the Moon" and "Memorial Beach" are Masterpiece's. I would really recommend you to react to the songs Sycamore leaves, Cold as Stone, Slender Frame, I Call Your Name, Move to Memphis, East Of The Sun West Of The Moon...best you react to the whole " a-ha live at NRK 1991" and the " Rock in Rio 1991" videos.

A-HA pure legends who obviously have many facets to their amazing sound 😎😎
Next time do a-ha take on me
They've done this so you may check it out.
Pal always wanted to play rock. Not hair metal type.
A Very well deserved hit single in their native Norway. + also in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, + Germany!
Im from the UK in England. Ever been?
Hello Mikey 😎 I have been to Sweden, Belgium & Germany but not the UK 🇬🇧 unfortunately
@@reactionextraction Hello there 🙂
Ah nice-where in Sweden, Belgium, + Germany did you visit??
Maybe time to come to the UK + tick it off your bucket list then!!
Find a good live version of Minor Earth, Major Sky. It's a better song live.
The album version is much better. The editing for this single version spoilt the dramatic effect of the chorus and cut out some really great vocals from Morten.
