Paul wrote this song/lyrics when he had to say goodbye to his girlfriend who lived in New York (he lived in London / Oslo). He later married her and they are still a happy couple, having their own music group together called Savoy.

Pal always wanted to play rock on his guitar. That's how he learned how to play.

I remember this, after 9/11, everyone would fall apart at the last sentences.

Knew you would like this one😊 I rocky side of a-ha we never saw enough of. Magne wrote the quiet part and Paul wrote the rock part, as they called it the best copy and paste for a song lol. Good luck trying to interpret a lot of a-ha lyrics.

This was covered a few years ago by Norwegian metaller, Ihsahn. The recording sticks to the studio arrangement, a really good version. You might enjoy listening to it on your own time.

They do name The Doors as one of their main influences
I've always thought about the song being about a breakup (or perhaps just a change) and consequently looking for new beginnings.

most Likely influenced by Paul’s experiences of traveling to America while he was dating Lauren

Mark, which live version of Scoundrel Days should I push on him? Do you have any idea? There is the Nobel Peace Prize version which has a good quality, but are there more rocky versions of good quality out there?

@@ahkkariq7406 the live in South America from the 90’s is probably the best for that, any of their performances during the 90’s were much more organic , even a-ha themselves stayed really felt like a live band during that period, that South America tour they played 25 shows to a combined audience of over 3 million fans including 198,000 at one gig, which was a Guinness book record

this was released on vhs in the 90’s included 10 tracks. Some brilliant performances, all very much guitar driven rock versions of the songs. It was included then on the special edition of east of the sun west of the moon album
