Recorded almost 4 decades ago and i still get electrified and feel chills all over my existence while listening to this track written by Pal and Mags.A young non-autotuned Morten delivering this masterpiece with tension and desperation. Now who could sing this the way he did? This is heartstopping. The single that never was.
I think the dark lyrics of the verses with the mysterious and more sober melody as well as Morten's more restrained voice bring a superb contrast with the explosive chorus and make it even stronger and brighter!!! This musical piece is brilliant in that sense... Timeless masterpiece by A-HA!!! 😊🎶
Was that somebody screaming It wasn't me for sure I lift my head up from uneasy Pillows Put my feet on the floor Cut my wrist on a bad thought And head for the door Outside on the pavement The dark makes no noise I can feel the sweat on my lips Leaking into my mouth I'm heading out for the steep hills They're leaving me no choice And see, as our lives are in the making We believe through the lies and the hating That love goes free For want of an option I run the wind 'round I dream pictures of houses burning Never knowing nothing else to do With death comes the morning Unannounced and new Was it too much to ask for To pull a little weight, They forgive anything but greatness These are scoundrel days And I'm close to calling out their names As pride hits my face See, as our lives are in the making We believe through their lies and the hating That love goes free through Scoundrel days I reach the edge of town I've got blood in my hair Their hands touch my body From everywhere But I know that I've made it As I run into the air And see, as our lives are in the making We believe through the lies and the hating That love goes free Through scoundrel days PS.Just one word from me about this masterpiece.. "BREATHTAKING"
You're right, almost all of a-ha's best stuff was never released as singles. And Scoundrel Days is simply amazing. It would be great to see you guys react to it's live version from South America 1991, a series of concerts that entered the Guinness World Records for attendance. That version of Scoundrel Days is one of the best live songs I've heard from any band ever...
Glad you've checked this song out. Definately one of my favourites. Really shows off Mortens vocal ability. Another album track that's a favourite is Living A Boys Adventure Tale from their debut. Love that one!
Ths one wasnt one of my favorites, but it's a classic. I've really fallen for more recent tunes like "Riding the Crest," "Start the Simulator" (my favorite), and "Cast in Steel." Try those out if youve not heard them.
A-ha goes dark...sounds awesome 😎 Cut my wrist on a bad thought.. fantastic line! Agree with Ty, too dark for radio, but fantastic hook... right from the get go!
This is not a song. It is a dramatic piece in which the verse is a central part, and it cannot be judged by ordinary standards. I would venture to say that the verse carries the chorus. It's like the vault in a cathedral - you have to have the walls to lift it. The message in the lyrics is deep, and it is not without reason that the song was played at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2105. Love is the ultimate power in the world. In my opinion it is a-ha's most important song seen from the perspective of mankind as a whole, and I find it so overwhelming that I am unable to rank it among the other songs from the band. It stands for itself.
I’ve heard other people mention the comparison to the Halloween theme! What a catch, Ty! I was hoping you were going to put them both up so I’d know for sure, but it isn’t the first time I’ve heard that said. Go, Ty!!! ❤
The first 3 songs on that album back to back (to back), an ever so slight dip to October, then back up with Manhattan Skyline - just a brilliant side 1. Scoundrel Days is probably my favourite A-Ha album overall (then Stay On These Roads then Hunting High And Low.....I started to lose interest a little after that, but a great trio of albums to start a long lasting career).
This one of my favorites. Morten could sing the phonebook I think this song it's about a guy dying. (Blood in my hair, hands touch my body from everywhere, but I know I've made it as I run into the air). Very dark but beautiful.
Ty! You've gone backwards with a-ha! It's not the 'Man on the Moon'! I can see that it might not have been single material, the lyrics are too dark. I think if you listen to the verses again, you might appreciate it. The chorus is great and Morten's vocals just soar. It's a 'cult' song with a-ha fans, everyone knows the words.

Morten IS “auto tune!” Could have just based the whole thing on him! ❤

Big fans of A-HA here in Texas 😎 ... 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇳🇴 🎵
Was that somebody screaming
It wasn't me for sure
I lift my head up from uneasy
Pillows
Put my feet on the floor
Cut my wrist on a bad thought
And head for the door
Outside on the pavement
The dark makes no noise
I can feel the sweat on my lips
Leaking into my mouth
I'm heading out for the steep hills
They're leaving me no choice
And see, as our lives are in the making
We believe through the lies and the hating
That love goes free
For want of an option
I run the wind 'round
I dream pictures of houses burning
Never knowing nothing else to do
With death comes the morning
Unannounced and new
Was it too much to ask for
To pull a little weight,
They forgive anything but greatness
These are scoundrel days
And I'm close to calling out their names
As pride hits my face
See, as our lives are in the making
We believe through their lies and the hating
That love goes free through
Scoundrel days
I reach the edge of town
I've got blood in my hair
Their hands touch my body
From everywhere
But I know that I've made it
As I run into the air
And see, as our lives are in the making
We believe through the lies and the hating
That love goes free
Through scoundrel days

"BREATHTAKING"
This is one of the best songs ever made. It's not only a song there is a deep dark story underneath
Fantastic a-ha 👏✌️💪

Watched them sing this live too.Our skin's hair all got up like needles.A thrilling performance.

That debut is a sacred legacy in modern pop music.a kind of 'Greatest hits" on its own and a well deserved 10 plus million seller.
A-ha pra sempre❤

This is some top tier lyrics actually. Quite remarkable from non native tongues.
Wonderful Piece with a Angel Voice🎉.. think this TY too Minor

You wouldn't feel that way about the verses...or anything else for that matter...if you grew up with this song :-)
True 😎
