We have never walked all around the whole gorge with our packs up until now. That is what is called the Grand Loop.
Many, many trips in and out and 1/2 loops and such but never the Grand Loop......'bout time))))
Mile-wise it is only around 43 miles but those are Gorge miles. Very rugged. Like an obstacle course built by ogres and trolls.
The Hickery Brothers prevailed.......

I can’t explain the smile on my face every time SHUG and Hicks start singing their tune. A friendship like that is a valuable thing. I’m going out hanging with my friend this weekend, I’m thinking it’ll be a little cold in those Carolina mountains!

Watching the whole trip again....love the Linville Gorge trips with the Hickery Brothers. Beautiful country, river, and lolly gagging. Every time i rematch these I see something I missed first time through. Thanks again.

That looked like a bushcraft bed. The side poles are to keep your ground insulation of leaves or grass or whatever from spreading all over.

Used to rock climb in Linville gorge. The trails always seemed longer during subsequent visits.
The 'curry' meal will clean your plate and your colon. Some folks like a colon cleansing from the bottom up, I prefer from the top down.

Shug, When you eluded to the fact that you were going on a excursion in your last video and there was a large period of time when there were no videos I suspected that you were in the "Big Ditch" with Kent. It sure was a pretty time to be there with the leaves changing and all. Looking forward to the next one.

Love it! I was just told about the Wolf Pit trailhead the other day (I'm new to the Gorge). I plan on going there on the 15th on an over nighter with a buddy of mine. Not sure what we'll get in to but I'm sure the Gorge will accept us for who we are. (What?!) Wooo Buddy! Thanks for the vid.

Shug, ya read my mind. All set for a little hammock interieur tonight - glass of red wine, mini atomic blazing away cooking up a little macaroni cheese on the stove, hammock slung up downstairs and up pops a new shug video! One happy man set for midweek-hammocking-by-proxy.
Born and raised in the NC mtns never been in the Linville gorge captain berz sent me over said you knew more about hammocks than anyone.
Well…I am enthusiastic about hammocks but don't think I know all))))
The Gorge is a good hammock spot for the most part though. Hope you go someday.

Great Videos! A hard but rewarding hike i'm sure. I'm planning on doing almost the same hike next month but in the other direction (counter-clockwise). Love the Jim Beam & Apple Cider, I'm going to have to try that.
+Locked “and” Prelohded Have a wonderful Loop. Be prepared to get a bit off-trail here and there.
I have to admit that I jumped the gun and commented before finishing the series. I will NOT be completing the grand loop, just my own (much shorter) variation. Very impressive though, you guys are a riot.
I like Jim Beam as much as the next guy.... but that bottle sure looks heavy lol :)

That is a tough route....mainly finding Leadmine. But doable. Be a long road walk. Road walks suck! Have you done Leadmine? It is not an official trail.
