Prime Djokovic was scary. Everyone talks about how Sinner hits the ball, but look at how hard Djokovic hits the ball here. Some unbelievable stuff.
Yeah he really was more aggressive on the forehand back then!
@@al1976-v7m agreed. Seems that these days he's mostly about consistency/counter punching; rarely aggressive. Haven't seen him play truly aggressive since AO 2023. He was a bully all tournament.
He's had the fastest average forehand in the entirety of 2023. In atp finals his forehand was a rocket, and in the 2024 Olympics, his forehand alone won him the match against Alcaraz@@BriceBriceBabyy
@@miljann98 Wow. Where did you get that stat from? I am surprised to hear that given the rise of Alcaraz and Co. I agree his fh was on fire in the olympic final and a few other matches in the last couple of years but my original point I guess was really that I don't think he is nearly as aggressive the way he used to be on a consistent basis
Let’s not get carried away about his prime level. He was bludgeoned by the 2nd best Swiss player in 2015 French finals. Sure he won 3 slams that year but he lost to a player that never achieved the #1 ranking in his career.
This Djokovic forehand was crazy. For majority part of his career his backhand has always been more reliable but that takes away so much from his forehand. Absolutely underrated how he can dictate play on the forehand side.
.. and yet Federer still has the better strokes overall by far, other than the backhand

This 2011 version is the most dangerous tennis player i have ever seen. Back when i was a FEDAL fan, still get shivers down my spine thinking of those days. 😮
Nope. Even the stats (and eye test) show 2006 Federer is in a league of his own
@@initialize21Eye test tells me Djokovic got in Federer's head with the 40-15 saga
@@initialize21 2015 djokovic is better then federer 2006
@@initialize21Eh you can’t definitively say that. Djokovic’s 2015 numbers are very similar, and his 2011 up until the US Open was even better, and against much better competition. Keep in mind 2006 Federer lost to Nadal 4 times including once on hard (Dubai where both played near their best) while 2011 Djokovic went 6-0 vs an arguably better Nadal.
@@initialize21 what stats? What eyetest?
😂 beauty stats?, ballerina step count Roger performed on court? No of times roger simps like you drooled making the atmosphere and ground sticky and stinky with your saliva?🤗
4:17 , 3:45 , 11:15 , 14:30 when both play at their best thats insanee points...basicaly the whole match is an highligh reel
I think 2011 is probably the peak of Djokovic's forehand. He was hammering it, and it explains why he had an amazing clay swing that year (only lost to God mode Federer). Although, his more simplified FH of recent years is possibly better for faster courts. He also moved and defended better in 2011 than any other year. His serve and his volleys he has definitely improved since then though.
He changed his forehand+ serve tehnique couple times in his career
from 2014 wimbledon to 2016 fo he served better under boris becker . 2016 aus open semifnal vs roger , he was in god mode in first two sets . best ever version of himself imo.
29:31 Djokovic is so smart and precise. Top spinned ball to Federer's feet. Ball so difficult to control.
THANK YOU Very much Australian open for upload such a classic historic match 👏👏👏👏🫶🫶🫶🫶
A very interesting fact to observe is that Federer at the start of the match focuses his game mainly on Djokovic's forehand, but this shot has made immense progress in the off-season, and is absolutely huge in this match. Subsequently, Federer begins to direct his game towards Djokovic's backhand... Which is reputed to be the best backhand in the history of tennis. Federer simply had no chance of winning this match. It is really this tournament which marks the beginning of Djokovic's undivided domination of world tennis, Roland Garros aside.
More like Federer getting older and out of his prime. Nole couldn't even touch Federer's peak to be honest
@@initialize21 I don't have a favorite between Federer and Djokovic, I enjoy the games of both for different reasons. But if at only 29 years old you are considered to be far from your best level, then clearly you cannot compete with Djokovic and Nadal, without even talking about the number of grand slam victories. The debate must be refocused; we're often talking about who is the best of all time, not who was the best during a 3 year period. That being said, considering the few weapons that Federer had this day against Djokovic, he was not far from winning the second set, which is already a performance in itself against this Djokovic.
@@initialize21 these nole fans are so bad 👎 they don't even allow us tards to drool all over our fed guy 😭 so mean fans
@@initialize21Federer getting older at 29 😂 yeah, that must be it
Out of his prime at the age of 29? Federer fans are so delusional sometimes.
2011, a magical year in tennis history. Djokovic with fantastic agressive tennis. Novak's forehand is criminally underrated. The accuracy, the depth, angles and even the power he can generate is crazy. Even in 2023 his forehand was out of this world. He was overpowering Sinner, which is not something many can do
Peak Djokovic against prime Roger…honestly I think Roger wasn’t expecting a level like this from nole in 2011…you clearly see how much he learnt from that match in the next matches at Rg and Us open which were much closer !
PS ; prime might mean something different depending the person but to me this is the gap of time where a player is at his technical and physical best ! Obviously within this period of time they are instances where you can get injured and ups and downs but that is the most successful periode of time for a player !
Novak prime : 2011-2016
Roger prime : 2005-2012
Nadal prime : 2008 - 2014
Obviously people will say « Roger prime is 2005-2007 » well that is his peak years that’s the nuance, just like saying Novak 2011 or 2015 or Rafa 2010 or 2013….anyway how cool was that to see the best 3 players ever face each other ! Miss those days
I would say Rogers prime started in 2002 when he started beating big names and won his first masters 1000. By 2005 he was already at his peak. Djokovic prime started in 2007 when he won his first masters 1000 and then cracked the top 3 rankings. Nadals prime was as early as 2005 when he won his first slam as a teenager.
@ it’s not because you beat big names that you are in your prime…Roger until 2004 let’s say was not structure in his game and struggle with his behavior on court in his younger years…he was not optimizing all his shots back at the time…same goes for Novak until 2011…Novak was not as much as beast physically before 2011( many injuries, problems with stamina in long matches, bad serve technique that caused him elbow injury…ectect) and Nadal before 2008 wasn’t as complete as a player as he was in his prime…2005-2007 Nadal ( exception of clay obviously ) was still vulnerable on hc and grass due to his poor serve and wasn’t as solid on the backhand side and net game !
See it doesn’t mean that before their prime big 3 were bad but more like they weren’t « finished » products…they managed to fix their game to reach their very best level on a consistent basis !
That’s why a player like alcaraz today is not at his prime yet imo ! He is 21 still very young and so good already but once he will find the optimal serve and consistency in performances he will be in his prime surly around 23-25 yo is the peak of a player.
Sinner this year reached his prime for example !
I think you said it well.
@@romainmj7245You sir are articulate, thoughtful and correct. It's lovely to see rather than just the usual toxicity.
I agree about Alcaraz. He reminds me of 2004 Roger, with a mixture of brilliance and inconsistency. I think Sinner just had his Novak 2011 season
@@Rory626 appreciate mate !
Crazy that Novak did not win another slam until 3 years after he won 2008. Gives hope for all the atp who are still struggling.
He was getting into many finals though, which is already a remarkable achievement. Something people often dont mention is also his young age at that time. Physically he wasn't in his prime yet
this match alone feels much better than any match ive seen from modern tennis players today. is it just me??
After seeing this match I knew Murray had no chance in that final
This djokovic was scary. The way he moved and he hit the ball basically in the middle
Of the racket all the time. Fed should have switched racket the year before this one or after Australia 2011 he couldnt compete with his ancient small racket anymore
what do you mean couldnt compete with ancient racket? His record with Djokovic when he used the small racket was much better. He beat him at the French Open that year and was a match point away from beating him at the US Open too. Beat the following year at Wimbledon with ancient racket tech again. The big racket killed his forehand. It was never the same after that switch.
He beat him twice, Djokovic won everything else.
He lost a lot of precision off his backhand too with the bigger racket. That extra power didn't just come for free
@@Rory626 Win some lose some. In the end, Djokovic stands and Federer crumbled.
@crocr AGE killed his forehand. Watch the 2014 Indian Wells final. His forehand was as good as ever in the first set (when he didn't have to run around the court so much).
His positioning is slower after 2009. And Djokovic is Djokovic after all.
A truly wonderful historic match 😍🤩🥰🙌
2011 is without a shade of doubt the best season in Tennis history because Novak not only won every major tournament except Roland Garros, but was 10-1 against Fedal demonstrating his total dominance.

Federer just made too many errors. Djokovic played a solid match and that’s why he was the better player of the match. Coming from a Fed fan.

Chokederer as usual
Given the choice we all would choose to play and experience tennis with Roger’s game and strokes. But only Roger is blessed with such skills and talent.
Federer was still in his prime till 2012. From 2013 he started having injuries
Roger Federer's main problems in this match:
1. Novak Djokovic totally locked in and playing hyper aggressively. (And wanting to win 23 more GS.)
2. Roger Federer's backhand.
3. Roger Federer playing too defensively (especially, not using his forehand as more of a weapon).
+ not going to net so much
I’d pay a lot of money to see this djokovic play 2010 us open nadal with his big 140 mph serve. That would have been a battle of gladiators
Think Nadal had his serve atound 210 km/h. 130 mp/h
It’s very clear from watching this video that Federer lost a LOT of power on his forehands when he shortened the motion after the 2006 season.

Look, no excuses. Fed backhand a major weakness and Djoker exploited it (in fact, less than Rafa did!) Having said that, the slower courts are a HUGE factor in this match. I think Djokovic here and still today doesn't go for the backhand down the line . Even on easy ones he uses too much top spin always goes cross court. Safin And Nalbandian could have easily play any shot from the backhand
He saved it for the right moments. Like that point to finish set 2. Down the line is generally the more difficult and lower percentage shot plus Federer's backhand is clearly the inferior wing. He had good reason to go crosscourt most of the time. There is a reason Novak has 24 GS and Safin has 2 and Nalbandian 0.
