"Love You To Death" seems like the logical choice as far as Type O negative is concerned... There's an autumn feel to the album October Rust from 1996 (which kind of makes sense), but also the album All Hallows Eve is on (World Coming Down) that I just can't put my finger on... Sometimes I think it's about the guitar, then that it's the bass, the, the vocals, but it's probably the combo and the unique feel that comes out of it.
Type O Negative...an incredibly good band. So much talent, so much emotion in the songs. This band left a gap that has not been filled by other bands to this day. Thank you Richard for choosing this band for a video. Can´t wait for more !
@@Greatmeasures Yes! Given the personal background you guys have talked about perhaps White Slavery is a good one (it's about cocaine addiction). Type O mixes a lot of dark humor and self-deprecation into their stuff. They somehow manage to make the most cynical stuff into catchy songs. Iirc correctly they have a song where he just lists off female cartoon characters lol. Also a song on oral sex during a woman's period, Wolf Moon, lol. Seen people say Peter/Type O always dared to sing explicitly about what especially men don't dare to speak of publicly, and it ain't wrong. I think you guys would appreciate more of their work.
Well, I just fell down the rabbit hole after watching your reaction to a Nightwish song . Next thing I knew you were reacting to my next favorite band Type O Negative. I've been a fan of theirs since the 90's . If I caught the hint right, Black No1 will be the next song . You should also try listening to September Sun , My Girlfriends Girlfriend, Everything Dies and Greenman.
Glad you got to this band on this day of all days. You could have also done several Type O Negative songs as Halloween is a constant theme on pretty much all their albums. “Creepy Green Light” also from World Coming Down is a Halloween favorite of mine. Please don’t wait until next Halloween to get to more Type O Negative though. They have a pretty stellar catalog if I may say so. Got to see them live twice in the 90s and they were every bit as entertaining as I hoped. I miss this band as much as I miss Slayer and 80s Metallica.
Oh… and I have to say Judson’s piano interpretation was probably his best so far, and he’s done some amazing interpretations. I’m beyond impressed with his abilities and I would love to hear a full recording of this song just as he did it here. It was gorgeous!! 🖤🔥🤘🏼
Type O Negative is definitely the perfect Halloween eve music ! Every Halloween I play their live concert DVD! Such an incredible live show🤘🏻 A great band with a truly unique singer with a voice nobody else can touch . There’s a simple reason the band hung it up after Peter’s death, nobody out there could do it they way he did! They just can’t sing in that low of a range naturally. It just wouldn’t sound right and the guys in the band and the fans all know this. R.I.P. Peter Steele . You , your kind personality towards the fans and your incredibly funny deadpan sense of humour are deeply missed by many people on this planet. I know … because I am one of them ! I have always loved your music right from the very first few notes I heard back in about 1994 or so I really couldn’t believe my ears , that super low voice just blew my mind 🤯 and to this day … it still does. Thanks Richard and Judson for taking a listen to this band and I hope to hear / and see more of them. I absolutely love it when Judson plays the parts on piano it really does sound amazing that way. Makes me wish Type O Negative had done an unplugged album leaning really heavily into Josh’s piano / keyboard parts it would have been flat out amazing! 😮 the interviews with these guys all together in one room are pure comedy gold. I’ve watched many of them 50x or more and it’s still totally hilarious 😄 I can’t wait to see Judson when he hears just how far down Peter’s vocal range can go. Maybe play “Wolfmoon” next 🤔 that would also have been a perfect track for Halloween 👻 🎃 cheers 🍻 guys , love the channel and Judson’s off the cuff playing is absolutely amazing and it’s my favourite part ! 🤘🏻 the reactions are always interesting to hear as they are the icing on a fantastic cake 🎂 😊
OK, Richard… here’s a list of Type O Negative songs for you and Judson to check out. Christian Woman Black No. 1 Summer Breeze/Set Me on Fire Bloody Kisses Can’t Lose You Love You To Death Green Man White Slavery Who Will Save The Sane? World Coming Down Creepy Green Light Pyretta Blaze September Sun Anesthesia
Thank you, thank you , Thank you! For finally checking out some Type O Negative. Absolutely perfect band for Halloween and so many other tracks you could have easily chosen would be just right, but this was perfect. All Type Os albums sound completely different from one another so exploring this band will take some time. Black No 1 another great Halloween track. Peter Steele was also heavily influenced by the Beatles. They even cover Day tripper
I was lucky enough to see Type O Negative open for Pantera in early 95. I'd never heard of them at the time, but have been a fan since. RIP Peter Steele
Poor Judson not in on the inside joke. Can't wait for their "No.1" hit! I myself just discovered Type O Negative last year at 60 years old. Don't know why I never heard them before, guess I didn't get the memo. Funnily, I did catch Peter Steele on Jerry Springer at the time but didn't know who he was.
One of my favorite bands! Had the pleasure of seeing them live three times from 1994 onward. There's a lot of tongue and cheek humor mixed in with their darker subject matter. A song about a woman who dies, so he kills himself to be reunited with her in the afterlife is actually an ode to Peter's cat. That sort of thing. And speaking of... Peter Steele did have diverticulitis, but his cat was severely ill at the same time. Peter died of sepsis days later because instead of going to the hospital, he stayed home to care for his cat. "A Death in the Family" off the Bloody Kisses" album is the song I referenced above. All I ask, is that when you eventually do "Black #1" and "Christian Woman" please do the album versions and not the radio edits. Hope you guys and everyone else had a safe and Happy "Hallows Eve".
Correction here. Peter was sick for four days. The creeps and the girl upstairs around him DID NOT call an ambulance while he puked in pain for days AFTER his cat died... Instead they waited until he passed, then cleaned him out of his belongings. This is fact. Waiting for care had nothing to do with his cat being sick. It was the ghouls who waited...
Great job piecing parts of the song together by ear! Type O were amazing with their track overlays and how they put sounds together. Can you review their songs "Love you to Death" or "Anesthesia"? It has much more keyboard in it. I am curious to see what you think of it. Thx so much!
One of my all-time favourite bands, great video! Enjoyed Judsons piano noodling too. Another song you may like is Who Will Save The Sane. Haunting and atmospheric. If you’re up for review recommendations, Deadhead by Devin Townsend is up there. Reckon you’ll enjoy 😊
I feel like you guys were almost there. My take on the lyrics, yes, he's going to a cemetery to revive a dead lover. So, it may not be surprising that there's some joyous anticipation at being reunited with someone you love and miss, even if it's an unholy and macabre reunion.
Can you guys look at some Death songs please? Flesh and the Power it Holds maybe? Crystal Mountain? Whatever you think would be interesting :) Love the videos guys
I'm surprised you didn't give him that "other No.1" song instead of this one. TON also has one called Halloween in Heaven which is very good, that's from their last album before Pete died, Dead Again. Bloody Kisses is my favorite TON album, Christian Woman is also right up there with that "other No. 1" song. I miss Peter Steele. Tragic loss. For me he's right up there with RJD, and Dime. RIP. But this was fun.
Happy Halloween! Please check out some of Archspire's music. Many of their songs are based on classical music despite being technical death metal. You might find something interesting in songs like 'Bleed the Future' or 'Remote Tumour Seeker,' or you could watch a playthrough.
More Type O pleeeeease ! Black No.1, Christian Woman or Love you to Death are possibly their best work musically, if I can advise you :x Love you Great Measures, and happy Samhain ;)
@@anthonydawson8080 Then advice yourself some songs if you think mine are not good musically x) let’s begin with the best famous songs firstly, they don’t now really well the band like Richard said.

Yay for Type O Negative. Richard, you've been sleeping on them. One of my favorite bands ever and Peter's death, and the subsiquent breakup, left a giant muscal hole that no one else has ever quite filled. Good pick for Halloween but I'd have lead off with Creepy Green light for a Halloween track. Giant Classical easter egg in the middle of it. The "No. 1 hit" is probably thier most famous song but truthfully they had many better tracks musically. Many of them are in the comments before me. In no paticular order... because damn this band was good... some of my favorites: September Sun, Nettie, Todd's Shipyard Gods (Above All Things), Love You To Death, Everything Dies, Green Man, Wolf Moon, Christian Woman, Anesthesia, and Haunted. You really should sit down and listen to the albums as a whole though. They put a lot of effort into the flow of the albums as a whole, like most bands before the advent of digital streaming and selling singles via dowloads.
I don't think I've ever seen someone's first Type O experience be this song. It's usually Black #1 or Love You Too Death. #1 hit? Kinda a dark song? Maybe even black? So dark you could say black #1. How can I go about a request? I know you would really like Gamazda. She is a piano player that does rock and metal and it would be really cool to hear another pianist thoughts. Maybe Richard could look at the channel to see she's it's not just some garage band crap. Pick a song (there's a bunch) I find her all the Metallica and Through The Fire And Flames type stuff the most impressive personally.
Gravitational Constant is their most interesting song, you should have showed this one instead. Anesthesia, In Praise of Baccus and Suspended in Dusk are great ones too. Hallows Eve is too repetitive...
Happy Halloween! 💀👻🎃
