I am a 65 year old grandma & I just installed double closet doors today. The hard part was I had to cut 3/4 inch off the bottom of the doors & make wooden inserts to fill the holes it left. Doors are hollow! You have to make sure it is an exact match to fill it & thick enough to handle the pins. I used a 2x4 scrap but had to cut it slimmer to fit. Glue in place. I also nailed it from the closet side so it wouldn't be seen & also make wooden insert more stable. Then I used a clamp to hold the piece on to the door that I just cut off so I had perfect hole alignments to drill a new holes in the wood inserts for the pins. My house is 105 years old & nothing is perfect or normal size. Like me! I came here to see if I did it right! It will pass... so now on to the next project! Good luck people, you can do this!
Okay now I really need to get off my behind and get this done. Got granny here doing the darn thing! I’ve had the bifold doors in my garage since the pandemic. Thanks grandma! ❤
Finally! I took down my bifold doors to paint and couldn't get them to hang straight again. A few months of looking at wonky doors and I almost called a handyman - this video helped me fix them in a few minutes!
Thank you so much! My door came off the track completely and the track got bent. I thought I was going to have to hire someone to fix it. This video helped me fix it myself!
This is incredibly incorrect. You forgot an entire part: Swearing and throwing stuff because you've been trying to install the damn things for 45 minutes and all you've done is pinch your finger, strain your back, and dent the wall 🙃
🤦🏾🤣🤣🤣 Amen!! I have used every foul word I could think of and the damn thing still fell down. I ended up saying eff it and it's still propped against the wall. 🤣🤣
Wish I would have seen this video before I installed mine in the laundry room. Looks like I did a terrible job initially, but may try to reinstall at some point, following these simple instructions:)
Just curious, is there a way to install these on top of a laminate floor, while leaving the required expansion space? Maybe drill out a larger than needed hole in the laminate so it has the expansion space, and cover it with something to hide the hole?
Having a hard time closing the bifold door without using the door itself if that makes sense. The handle will open the door but when fully open it pulls on the track. Any tips?
How would you install closet doors when the new baseboards have already been installed. Do you cut them out where the door will be or do I have any other options?
I wish mine were that easy to install. I had to trim mine on 3 sides to get them to fit. Then had to trim again cuz one was higher than the other when closed.
I bought a bifold louvered door for my laundry room and there is a marble threshold separating the kitchen from the laundry room. How do I install the bottom piece of the door? Would I have to drill a hole through the marble?
Thanks for the video. I have a closet with a regular door frame. The opening width of the closet frame is around 24 inches. I like to install the one folded door because the room door is located nearby to the closet, and if I install the door at the closet, the room door and the closet door will clash with each other. My question is, can I install a bi folder door in the regular door frame?
This helps, because I didn't know the name of the doors that I have, and the bottom bracket is broken on one of mine and no longer closes. I would NOT recommend installing these types of doors as they jump the track.
These bifold doors have their pivot about an inch from the edge. The ones I bought from Lowes have the pivot only about 1/4" from the edge of the door. The opening I'm replacing the doors in are similar to the ones in this video. There's molding on the inside of the door opening. I'm afraid if I try to install the doors I bought, they won't open unless I remove the molding. Where can I get doors like the ones in the video?
When you say there's molding on the inside of the door opening, are you referring to stop molding from the existing door? Depending on where the molding is, you may be able to install it without removing the molding. It's hard to diagnose without seeing your setup, but sounds like you have a pretty normal opening that should work if the door you purchased matches the width of the opening (not accounting for the inner molding). What's the width of your opening? And which doors did you buy?
I installed them yesterday, but had to remove the molding on the sides. The top molding perfectly hid the rail. The width of the opening was 48". So they fit perfectly. I don't have the name in front of me, but the instructions were the worst and the included screws were not nearly long enough. I had to drill out the hole where the bottom pivot adjusts. It wasn't deep enough. There was also reference to a part that would join together two rails in the case of a double door, but that part wasn't included and there was no mention of where to order it. I just installed without it.
The bifold doors in the house I recently rented are even cheaper than these here with the absolute cheapest possible hardware. Apparently not intended to actually be used! Which makes getting a door back in its track a nightmare. I sure miss my old place with great wooden bifold doors from more than 50 years ago. They never jumped the track once in the 30 years I was there.
Sir I bought a bi-Fold door at Lowes , it's kinda of heavy it has 3 panels of glass on each door side when I tried to put it on it didn't fit , the door opening is 35 and 1/4 the Bi- Fold door is 36, should I cut about 1 inch off the width of one door ? or will I hit the glass inside ?? and what about its weight, the crews started coming out from the track brackets on my first try, can you help me ??
SuperHugobox, you should probably stop back by the Lowe's where you purchased the door and talk with an associate about your specific situation. Thanks for watching.
Im not really sorry to say, but the closes Lowes to me in Miami lakes 167st and NW 57ave NW , is really a sad place, I tried to speak to a manager and asked an employee to please introduce me, the employee tried and the so called Manager told him he was on his lunch break not even bothering to look my way while I was standing but 2 feet away, he simply went off about his way, so then the employee takes me to the door department and tries introducing me to the guy in charge but he was busy finishing the paper work for a 2 door sale, which took him about 30 minutes, thank God there was no other person in line, but once again he was not able to help , there was a display of a bi-pass door that is discontinued, it would work perfectly for me, but they simply refuse to sell it to me, giving some baloney about they can't sell a display !! now how can this be if Im willing to purchase it as is ??? if is discontinued why do they keep displaying it ??? why the refusal to accommodate a customer ????? so now I suppose , Im left to seek help on the internet or your competition, I tell you it wasn't a very nice experience, can you maybe give a number of someone I can contact to help me with this problem or is it further waste of time ??????????
@@mrststreasures9628 do you know if the doors are plumb (vertically level)? That could be a reason for them coming out of the track. If they are plumb, you might take them off and inspect the pivot pins and make sure that they are not coming loose. Hollow core doors do not use the best wood for the framework...
The hardware package has a extra metal plate with no instructions as to where it goes. Also, there is no illustration key that indicates what style and length screw goes where.
It's possible, +pinkblackbrown! You will need new hardware, though. Your double doors use hinges, while bifold doors need a track system. You got this!
I think Lowe's need to supply us with that if you know we're buying their stuff they should have somebody to deliver them and install them that should come with the price
Hey maybe someone can help me out, i have a 46"3/4 opening for a closet i bought new vented bifold doors which ended up being too big they're 24" each, i know i should've measured twice before purchasing , but besides that I'm trying to find a solution before returning them, so apparently the next size down available is 18" inches , I've thought About ripping both doors down 5/8" each along the jamb side which will give me the 1"1/4 which will bring me to that 46"3/4 of the opening, but even that might be too tight , i welcome any carpenter advice out there, hope everyone's staying safe healthy and busy👍🏼
Lol! Installation is a pain it's not like shown here how about troubleshooting tips like the pin does not securely fit into the top hole rail and the guide rail keeps falling out.

Damn gramma you know what’s what! Come to my house 😂
You are awesome! If grandma can do it, so can we.

@@tashab3948 Lol !🤦🏽♀️
This is so true! How can doors be so hard????
Would like to see which side is best to trim if my opening is not perfect to door size width.
You should add a link to the bifold doors used in this video.
Wish I would have seen this video before I installed mine in the laundry room. Looks like I did a terrible job initially, but may try to reinstall at some point, following these simple instructions:)
thanks for telling me the "aligners" do; I couldn't figure out what there are aligning in there.
Yes that was a light bulb moment for me to lol

I’m framing for 48”x80” doors and not finding specifics on rough/finished opening requirements. This video didn’t help either.

Can I know what system these doors use? I have doors already but are not in any railing so I would like to add it.
Perfect video

Sorry for your trouble, Dwayne. Sounds like your DIY skills saved the day, though!
FYI - These were Reliabilt.
Did he just put a doorknob on a closet door at 1:36?? Lol
It’s a dummy knob. So, no
Made me decide to ask for an installer.
This is very good, thanks.
This sounds so much like the Rick and Morty "Plumbus - How It's Made" video that it's buck wild

My bi-fold are original to the house and won't stay in the track. Seem to be barely balancing on something too. Help. Are they just junky?

Cheap aint good and good aint cheap. You can have one or the other.
This doors are pretty but the tracks do not keep the doors in place. I need to redo my door😡
This helped cause my landlord took my door off but never put it back on
my top bracket cannot be screwed ....
My landlords did this all backwards and both of the doors have fallen off now
What the hell is "plum"?
Vertically level.
This door is nice however the hardware is to weak it does not hold the rack is not for that door
Those knobs are an overkill
Run away from bi fold doors. I know he makes it look easy but in reality this will be the hardest thing you've ever done in life
😂😆
Can you please please please explain why
Well that answers my question I'm just gonna pick one out and then find somebody to install it for me pay daddy lol 😅
I used this video to show me how to remove my closet doors. Fold closed, lift, remove.

Where does the spring go these instructions suck
