Kyo composed Sajou no Uta from Vulgar. There’s a clip of him sitting with Die trying to tell him what chords to use and it’s clear that Kyo really doesn’t have much technical knowledge of music because he wasn’t able to just tell him the chord. Die would strum some chords and Kyo would point and be like “that one!”

Too many comments to sift through, but Yoshiki scouted Dir en grey and produced their triple-single major debut (Akuro no oka / Yurameki / Zan). Not a lot to do with Toshi; although, I once read that Kyo's interest in music began with guitar and an infatuation with hide--the deceased guitarist of X, now filled by Sugizo (also, strangely enough, part of Luna Sea, also made famous by Yoshiki). Small-world history lessons.
You might not be very objective because Ruki is clearly under Kyo on every aspect of his vocals : vocal range, shouting techniques, vocal depth, vocal variations, emotional range, inventiveness, talent as a songwriter and I'm not talking of the deep meaning of Kyo's lyrics. Ruki's melodies often sound the same and there are no big differences with other V-kei singers whereas Kyo is unique. You can prefer Ruki's voice, but please keep in mind that these two are just incomparable.
While Kyo isn't my favorite vocalist, he is one of the top two or three most impressive rock/metal vocalists ever in my opinion. I'm constantly amazed at what he can pull off.
Kyo is probably my favorite vocalist too, because the band is my favorite one of J-Rock but also that band have their own style that touch me in the mind. His lyrics make so much story, and the music is just the music of his voice. I don't want to say this band is like boss, I don't like to act like fanatic to explain what is a great music band.
Cool vid! It's actually pretty cool to see someone else who has Kyo as their favorite vocalist. It was pretty much an instant decision after listening to them for about two months a couple of years ago. He's definitely my favorite vocalist along with Mike Patton and hatis noit.
Hatis noit's stuff is legit pretty cool. Her solo works are all incredibly interesting experimental acapella using a pretty diverse repertoire of vocal techniques and a neat use of layering. Her band Mutyumu is one of my favorite bands, just a really cool mixture between post-rock, avant-garde metal and modern classical. But yeah for sure, It did take me by surprise as well. I loved it right away lol.
I've really been on a Diru binge lately, really love how unique Kyo's voice is. I still think ruki and the Gazette is my favorite and yeah I definitely see the influence they had from Diru and Kyo but they have made thier own way with a unique sound of thier own. Hi! I love this video on Kyo (btw, according to the japanese fanbase Kyo's real name is Hironori Nishimura) and I too hope you will do all the members of Dir en grey, especially Die and Kaoru. :)
I really love Atsushi Sakurai of Buck-Tick. He has both a performance and visual style that's just legendary, so I can see why Kyo and others are so inspired. I also love Hizumi from D'espairsRay, who share in a lot of similarities with Dir en Grey in style. It's sad about his voice problems, otherwise they could still be making music. When I was younger I really loved Kagrra too, so it was upsetting when I heard the lead singer passed away, he had a beautiful voice.
We're doing a video on Buck Tick that will be released within the next few weeks. Thanks for sharing. :) Those are some really good vocalists you've chosen.
Great video man. I'm really enjoying your music stuff. My favorite female vocalist is probably Adele. Lol I know be she is really amazing. Male vocalist would be Freddy Mercury from Queen. My favorite band of all time is System of a down. But my favorite entertainer is Michael Jackson. I'm pretty all over the place haha.
Ha that's a good choice. From a theatrical perspective, I would put Freddy really high in that department. Adele is pretty good. I don't really know who my favorite female singer would be lol
jpotion He should be fired. Dir en Grey fans are some of the better translators of Japanese. Although the spellings are in the video someone skipping through will have a hard time finding the things mentioned if going by ear alone. He pronounced the other band as tsukikio (TSU-KEE-KEE-O) and zukikio (ZU-KI-KI-O) instead of sukekiyo ( pronounced SU-KEH-KEE-YO). Kyo is one syllable. The mispronunciation not is not only grating to the ear but takes away from the professionalism of this otherwise great video. Especially since these days checking pronunciation for almost any language isn't hard to find. If this band was from America and had English title songs the narrator wouldn't have any mispronunciation because he would've looked things up.
I know I've asked you before but could you do one for Yoka and Kei of Daiura and could you do one for isshi of Kaggra or also shin of Kagrra, he plays the guitar and koto and I've never seen that before. They are all so good.I would love if you could do that please
Nice video! Just fyi on the pronounciation. His name is pronounced K-YO (quick hard 'K' sound then 'YO'... like when you pronounce Kyoto without the -to) not KEY-YO. Further along in the video is the correct pronounciation. There is long debate about Kyo's real name. Though 'Nishimura Tohru' has been debated as his 'real name', it's long been realized and confirmed that neither 'Kyo' nor 'Nishimura' is his real name. Also another fyi, I've seen Deg in concert since 2006. Kyo did self-mutilate on stage with a safety pin and scratching his chest during this short time period. In regards to the fish-hooking, he spat out empty capsules while I was there (not to say there weren't times where he'd actually cut himself inside his mouth but the blood would have then not have been so thickly red (as with the blood capsules)).
Haha, some of those scratches on his chest and abdomen was pretty extreme. Surprisingly, he's relatively unscarred from all that. For a time, he also had the words 'No Future' carved onto his chest.
The debate on Kyo's real name is large, that's for sure. I've not read a shit ton on the band, but what I have read, Tooru seems to be the most common opinion on the spelling of his 'first' name. Nishimura,I've read that it's also Niimura, well, who knows. Die is Daisuke Andou, Shinya Terachi, Hara Toshimara, and Kaoru Niikura. I tend to believe that Kyo's first name is really Tooru. If you know anything about fan fiction, the authors are stickler's for using correct information, at least in regards to names. (Yes, I'm one of those freak fan fict authors, but I usually don't write much about Diru). Authors try to use as much correct information about whatever character they're writing, I know I do. Regardless, Kyo has one of the most unique voices in music, regardless of nationality. I like the post 2008 music, more than the early stuff. As for the cutting? As you can see, he is still in one piece. lol 9: He often had serious problems with his throath. He had "something" like cancer or tumor, which he decided to cure without surgery. He overworked his throath way too much, that is why he often sounded horrible, and couldn't even breath right. 10: And for Kyo's sake, Sukekiyo does NOT sound like the old Deg at all... 11: Yes, mama is actually his. Kyo is a Jazz fan :)
Shinomiya Satsuki so i guess not all of those were wrong xD i read somewhere he had tonsilitis and edema at one point. A tumor or cancer would be extremely fatal! Yeah im not sure why i mentioned he wrote mr. newsman...mustve been a bad source. as far as sukikyo sounding like dir en grey from a compostion standpoint theyre similar due to the modes that they share.
What the heck are you talking about? La:Sadies was like he told. It featured Kisaki on the bass instead of Toshiya. La:Sadies was basically Direngrey without Toshiya. That is all La:Sadies was. You could see that other bass player in the band called, phantasmagoria. It is also a good band.
Darby Crash of the Germs use to self mutilate, so did gg allin (biggest piece of shit in the world, glad he's dead) , Iggy Pop also did some fairly crazed things with broken glass. . I like the later, post 2008, the 'progressive' style. I've never been a fan of screamo, hardcore or whatever it's labeled as. I just DL, Mama, I like it a lot. It's hard to find streaming Dir En Grey, but I've got a few. Kyo's voice is amazing, I think the female flip of Kyo would be Nina Hagen, same range, opera to screamo. Musically I don't have a fave member. But Diru is always entertaining.
Apparently the story goes that Korn saw Diru self mutilating and that's pretty much got them on I believe one of their first US tours. I believe it was a family values tour.
Dir en grey had their first one-man tour in the US in 2006 where they performed at SXSW in Texas, NY and LA. The first US tour was the Family Values Tour with Korn in 2006 after their one-mans were successful. All this can be corroborated on Deg's official website: http(:)//direngrey(.)co(.)jp/
If you haven't heard Kyo live, you haven't heard Kyo
I have heard Kyo live when they came to Houston. He was amazing.

I'm talking about something I know.
The first lineup wasn't like that.
Go inform yourself first.
Inform me. How was the first lineup?

Yeah, I agree. He does sing in multiple keys.
@@PhoenixSplash good one
metal growling does not = screamo... screamo is a type of punk music, and has since been used as a slur against metal
THE AUDACITY!
all hail Kyo! he's GOD
YES he is! Thanks for watching!
All this can be corroborated on Deg's official website:
