Excellent video! Would have been cool if you had spoken to an old geezer who knew these cars when they were current. The true 205 GTI and the only one that will be a classic is the 1.6. Honourable mention goes to the Rallye. The 1.9 was added by the marketing department to milk the phenomenal and unexpected success of the original. It was softer and, from a driver's perspective, less beautifully balanced. The 1.6 could be driven on the throttle on a razor edge of power and control, dancing like a highly trained and precise ballerina. This was what made it almost unbelievably quick. I lusted badly for one when I got my licence in 1989. But as a new driver of a car that was already a legendary 'hot hatch' I found I could just about afford the car but not the insurance! Loved your video though. Liked and subbed.
Thanks Rasheed! I got my license in 1997 and the first car I bought was a 205 GTI 1.9. The 1.6 GTI and 1.3 Rallye are phenomenal cars as well. They all have their own unique qualities.

The 205 GTI wasn’t designed by Pininfarina but by the Peugeot design team (directed at the time by Gérard Welter), Pininfarina only designed the 205 cabriolet...
Hi Lucas, I'm afraid you're right. I thought I knew Pininfarina was the designer but I was wrong. This confusion seems to happen to various persons very often. I have done some research yesterday and today. I have looked up information on the internet and in books I have about the 205. It seems that in 1977 Peugeot asked two design teams to make a design study for the 205. One team being its own Peugeot design team and the other being the design team of Pininfarina. The designs that were first made by both teams were considered to be too conservative and not original enough. After that the Peugeot design team quickly made a completely new design and that design ended up becoming the Peugeot 205 we now all now. Eventually Pininfarina designed the cabriolet version of the Peugeot 205.
The English Wikipedia article about the Peugeot 205 even mentions: "The styling of the 205 is often thought to be a Pininfarina design, although Gerard Welter claims it as an in-house design; Pininfarina only styled the Cabriolet." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_205 The article also refers to a famous car journalist that made the same mistake as I did: www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/4755873/Keeping-track-I-knew-that.-Or-did-I.html

Thanks! It seemed we more or less forgot it on the day of the shoot. We have payed more attention to it in the following video (Subaru Impreza GT Turbo 555)
Hello everybody. Good video. I love 205. I build Peugeot 205 whit Xsara VTS engine and Peugeot 309 gti chassis. I am serching Peugeot 309 gti front antiroll bar 21mm or using 23mm for time attack. In my country this item dont real serch.
Thank you! We have planned a couple of videos for 2019. Unfortunately budget is tight and making them is expensive. So hopefully we get more viewers, likes and subscribers. That would make it a lot easier to finance the production of the videos in the future.

nice city to rag round but i use to perfer the back lanes my last one was blue k reg with air con power steering last model there did think miss my little pug!!!!!!!!
Hi Benjamin, maybe we will make one of my white Peugeot 106 Rallye as well. We have already filmed and will launch a video about the Citroën Saxo VTS 16V in the upcoming weeks. The Peugeot 106 will shortly be shown in it as well.
Thanks for the compliment. You are right about the tyre width. They are standard 185 on both versions. They look wider on the 1.9 however, because the 1.9 stands on 15 inch rims instead of 14 inch rims... Several 1.9 owners have placed 195 tyres on the standard rims.
Was it a 1.9 GTI, or a car with a replaced engine? Or could it have been a 206 of 306 GTI? The 205 GTI was never officially produced with a 2-liter engine.
I've found this applicable definition of a pocket rocket: "A pocket rocket is an extremely tiny vehicle which is requiring the parking space of the size of a handkerchief, loaded with way more power than any rational thinker would expect it to deliver." The 205 GTI is bigger than an original Mini Cooper or Abarth 500, but with a total length of 3,7 meters (12 ft) it's still a relatively small car in relation to its performance.

Yes indeed. You should check www.almostclassiccars.nl to see some totally restored examples. Go to "AANBOD". The ones with "Verkocht" are sold, but the ones which are labeled as "Verwacht" are being prepared to sell.
If you're getting a loan anyway; keep that modern piece of shit for rainy days and rush hour. Buy the 205 for the drives when you can actually enjoy it ;-)
A film of the 206 GTI will follow later this year. We have already shot the footage for the film, but it still has to be edited. So your wish will be granted :-)
I will always regret to did not buy one when it was dirt cheap. Today if you want a nice one you have to pay at least €20k. That car was my teenage dream a red or a white 1.9 gti with tinted glasses. I was never into the gti golfs or vti civics but this car was always a head turner for me.
I agree. You should have bought a lot of them when they were cheap and then put them away in a warehouse. The first one I bought many years ago, was a white one for about 1.300 euros...
You are a lucky man! But be careful when it rains! The back can flip easily when you brake in a corner. The first thing I advise you is investing in a good set of tyres. My first car was also a 205 GTI and I totalled it when I had to brake in a wet corner. Probably I would have been able to keep it on the road when I had replaced the tyres by high quality tyres.
I'll take that as a compliment ;-) It takes effort, time, money and patience to get to this level. You make nice videos yourself as well. Funny when you speak to the cop and show a donut afterwards :-)

I think that's a bit exaggerated. These roofs were in the Dutch brochures at the time and you could have your new 205 delivered with them. In practice, they were not installed at the factory in France, but at the Dutch Peugeot importer. The roof still functioned fine and did not leak. In addition, it offered more headroom than a factory sunroof.
1.9 engines are lazy one ! 1.6 engines are more sharper due to better connecting rod ratio. basicaly the block is the same bore for all 1.6(XU5) 1.9(XU9) and later 1.8(XU7) PSA engines. the XU9 aka 1.9 nick name is lazy cause it has worse connecting rod ratio and hesitate to rev by law of physic and pug dicky design. the MI16 conversion was one the best in my idea which mean swamping 1.9 16V engine from pug 405 mi16 or citroen XM with 160 hp. some crazy swap had V6 32 valve engine or even double MI16 one in front and one in back. or using T16 from 405 with 220 hp turbo. personally I would use GTI 6 engine from 306 which has best design OR for city use just a simple XU7 16V which has 110 hp BUT it loves to rev. the XU5 and XU7 and XU9 has alumium block where as the XU10 has cast iron block ( GTI6)
The quality of this video is absolutely stunning. Seriously. Wow.

so cool the start ov the vid someone that knows how to drive one!
Lovely pug
Thank you!
the name of the song in the background plz :D amazing video btw (im a 205 GT owner and we have a 1.9 GTI with 122 hp and automatic gearbox) :)
Hi, the awesome song in the background is "Get Free" from "Emorie". Really love it.
Try to mail Patrick van de Boogert from Boogert Compétition Automobile. He has a big network, so maybe he know someone that has the part.
Afaik only the cabrio was designed by Pininfarina. Nice video regardless!
Best cars ever made
I hope you make more videos
Thank you! We have planned a couple of videos for 2019. Unfortunately budget is tight and making them is expensive. So hopefully we get more viewers, likes and subscribers. That would make it a lot easier to finance the production of the videos in the future.
@@SoontobeClassics Good Luck!

Soon to be Classics ,Good job! Tell what camera did you use!?
Thanks for the compliment! We primarily used a Sony A7SII.
How about a video of that quality for the Peugeot 106 ?
Hi Benjamin, maybe we will make one of my white Peugeot 106 Rallye as well. We have already filmed and will launch a video about the Citroën Saxo VTS 16V in the upcoming weeks. The Peugeot 106 will shortly be shown in it as well.
@@SoontobeClassics OMG can't wait for it!
A 106 Rallye video would be amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tyres are not wider on a 1.9. Good video!
Thanks for the compliment. You are right about the tyre width. They are standard 185 on both versions. They look wider on the 1.9 however, because the 1.9 stands on 15 inch rims instead of 14 inch rims... Several 1.9 owners have placed 195 tyres on the standard rims.

Cool! Thnx!
My dad had a grey 2.0 gti
Was it a 1.9 GTI, or a car with a replaced engine? Or could it have been a 206 of 306 GTI? The 205 GTI was never officially produced with a 2-liter engine.
@@SoontobeClassics My bad 1.9 my autocorrect 😠
@@SoontobeClassics and it was a 205
It was not Sergio Pininfarina who designed this car but Gérard Welter.
I wouldn't call it a "pocket" rocket, they are relatively expensive nowdays... And very rare
@@SoontobeClassics oh my bad, i thought it refers to a fast but cheap car to buy and maintain. Thanks for the correction!
Matan Eyal no worries

I would rather go for this over the tesla if i'm presented with both the cars ! And yes i would not replace the engine either !
Please subscribe?I fuckin' did!How awsome was that video, absolutely loved it.I am gonna search your channel for more vids like that
I want one.
Have a look at www.AlmostClassicCars.nl. There are a couple of 205 GTI's for sale on that website. LHD offcourse.
those are sooo rare now
Yes indeed. You should check www.almostclassiccars.nl to see some totally restored examples. Go to "AANBOD". The ones with "Verkocht" are sold, but the ones which are labeled as "Verwacht" are being prepared to sell.
Thanks! Reading the price on the site, you can already think its rare. That is alot for a 27 year old car! :)
That is true. They are rare, especially in good conidtion.
Right. Im selling my modern piece of shit and buying one of these gems.
Edit: after a loan.
If you're getting a loan anyway; keep that modern piece of shit for rainy days and rush hour. Buy the 205 for the drives when you can actually enjoy it ;-)
206 please
A film of the 206 GTI will follow later this year. We have already shot the footage for the film, but it still has to be edited. So your wish will be granted :-)
Is it fwd or rwd ?
Hi Ahmed, it is FWD. But in corners it sometimes handles like a RWD with the back end making small steps to tighten the corner.
What i would do to own one of these :)
Maybe you could just start with a shirt or a coffee mug ;-) teespring.com/nl/new-pocket-rocket
My mom bought one for €1200, like 7 or more years ago. Still in the family. And in about 2 months, i can drive it myself finally!
Soon to be Classics Thanks for the advice. I will look into it. Sucks that you totaled it man.
For 11k you will get an OK 205 GTI 1.9 in France. But if you want a really good one, you will probably have to pay more than 17.5k. Even in France.
what the hell man. how do you make these videos. no wonder why I dont have subs
I'll take that as a compliment ;-) It takes effort, time, money and patience to get to this level. You make nice videos yourself as well. Funny when you speak to the cop and show a donut afterwards :-)
@@SoontobeClassics you absolutely should! and I thoroughly appreciate that! I hope to see you with 10x subs someday, with a little more myself😁

The 205 wasn't designed by Pininfarina. he lost the design contest to Gerard Welter.
BMW the ultimate driving machine.......nah the 205, 309, 405 and 306 are you're ultimate driving machines.
Forza brought me here
How cool is that! I'm curious to know how Forza brought you here (I als play Forza and sometimes drive the Peugeot 205 in the game).

Poor quality after market sunroof ruins the car...
Fast car but they was shit to own all ways something wrong with them.
Hi Tony, I think it really depended on what car you bought and for which price. I’ve owned multiple examples, all with very little problems.
Bad video
