Tinman! I'm under the weather right now, and resting. I'm watching all my favorite UA-cam and you're the first person I thought of. Thanks for putting yourself out there for us, you're the best Tinman. Remember this too shall pass, one day at a time...
Ohh Snow! Winter is here in PA as well. Time for tinkering on old powersaws. Looking forward to seeing your old mac in the wood, keep at it.Thanks for sharing.
Good stuff again Tinman, lov'en the real time trouble shooting. Just got my grandfathers 1971 Echo kioritz CS-701VL running tonight. She might need a oil ring kinda barfing liquidy oil out the muffler. Might have the metering set a little high. But she has been sitting for 48 years. A new carb kit, one gas line and had to fabricate a de-comp lever. It was broken and obsolete. Still need to go though the chain oiler system but the saw is shiny like new it still has the varnish on the bar. It is in mint condition. Wish I could send you a before and after picture. So cool resurrecting these old saws. The carb kit was the same as the husky 268... identical. Tillotson HS-54BB*, major rebuilt kit is RK-23HS. Also found a kit for the pioneer p25 kit RK-14HU. It's on order, can't wait to do that one. So cool... take care Tinman...Mahalo🤙
Tinman you have been a big inspiration to me. Just rebuilt a stihl 290 my dad blew up years ago. Runs like a top! I just wanted to say thanks! I’ve been watching your videos everyday since I subscribed and have learned so much. Definitely my favorite UA-cam personality!
I have a super 250 with the same carb and the same problem. Even down to the leaking cork gasket. I never thought about the reeds. So yeah keep at her. Great to see some early mcculloch love.
Not a carb expert by any means, but im in the learning mode as well. I take a q-tip with carb cleaner on it and put it in a drill and clean the inlet seat. I also have a pump to pump up the inlet to see if the needle will hold 5-6 psi of pressure. You can also pump up the inlet needle and dip the carb in water to check for external leaks. I have been using Pine Sol for carb cleaner. I soak over night and wash with water and blow out. Also poke wires through all holes.
Thanks for posting this carb rebuild. I have an old Pioneer 620 that has a similar carb and by watching, I have noticed I have put my gaskets in the wrong place. Now I see why it doesnt run correctly! Great vid and keep it going!
This is so cool. Watching you diagnose in real time and your commentary is very helpful. Hope to see you figure it out, although you seem like you know the problem already
Tinmaaaaan, everything good takes time and effort as you know. So systematic with the build brother, always a pleasure spending time on the channel. SLANT'E
Tinman, Watching you with this old Mac reminds me of getting my old 250 running. Same flooding and symptoms running it. Well, I rebuilt that stinking Tillie 6 times before it went right. I thought the reeds were stuck too. But no, they were sealing fine even after 50 years! Do a pressure test on that carb. On those rebuild kits, the needle and seat will be a problem, you really need to check the old vs. new for size length comparison. Slight difference. Then watch your gaskets at the fuel filter, they get loose and the plate can warp. At last I found the H and L needles let some air leaking. I put the carb in bucket of water to find all the leaks. The carb body does seem to wear out with time.
That saw definitely seems like it's worth the time and effort👍 to me the journey so to speak, is half the fun! Gotta do final winterizing here in Hobbs, NM. USA. we're supposed to get our first freeze tomorrow night!
I have a 1-62 doing the exact same thing, mine was found in a creek an stuck so i would say when you said stuck reeds i think you hit the nail on the head for mine. The metering leaver is supposed to be flush with i carb floor i belive might just be your only issue now, love the mac content 👌
You have to change that seat. I've got a socket I cut down especially for that. They feel like they're frozen in, but it's just the socket grabbing the body of the carb.
First thing tinman, clean the gas tank and change the fuel line and filter. That's huge. But you didn't clean behind the Welsh plugs in the carb, that would help too. But after sitting so long you got to let them run. They will sometimes clean themselves up after running.
Tinman, I have a 1-70 that is having the same flooding problem as yours. I have spent countless hours trying to get it to run with no success. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do to get yours running.
Bro I just got a 1-10 has a weird looking carburetor on it lol I’ve got it to fire but acts like it starving for fuel don’t have a clue how to adjust low and high or where there at any advice thanks for the time u put in to educate us rookies ✌🏻
Love old Macs! I have a mini mac pro 6 that lives in my truck and always runs when I need it. Mostly back woods deadfall etc. Would be awesome to see ya hotrod a mini or eager beaver!
Very interesting. Thanx for sharing. One of my smaller husky saws kind of bogs and don't run well when it is cold and dies if not held running. Once it has working temp it is runs ok . Any idea why?
Picked up an early 90's Homelite leaf vacuum/blower for free as a quick project to keep my hands busy and the guts of the carb looked about as bad as that one there
Tinman, howdy do brother, lol..I'm in the south us, idk what that thing is u got there lol cart motor what its called? Something like that, zero McCullough here...never even seen one or really husqys except at lowes get a "rancher" mainly stihls down here, I had to go out of my way to get my 372
What you like to run through the 308 at the k mark? I'm a 175smk 2650fps handloads very long, sw pr and varget, it's a stomper far as that thing will lob, 168 ablr for huntin

I’ve got a good carb attached to a saw I will be sending your way.
Picked up an early 90's Homelite leaf vacuum/blower for free as a quick project to keep my hands busy and the guts of the carb looked about as bad as that one there
I was wondering where I might find a starter assembly for a 1-71 I received from a friend first pull and the pulley disintegrated
