Thank you so much for this video. You are right. there really aren't any useful videos on how to map a MIDI controller's knobs into Garage Band. I just got myself an Alesis V Mini and scourged UA-cam for suggestions. I really am surprised that Apple made such a basic thing so inaccessible.
Hi guys! can anybody help? I first use any drum kit, I set the plug-ins to au instruments, apple, au sampler then it's immediately turn the keyboard sound to an actual keyboard, so no drum kit to map anymore.. any tips plz? thanks
@@chuckytherapper actually no:’( I just have been using ableton lite(it came with the launch key 49) to record music and I use GarageBand to play piano because the stock pianos sound much better
@@scammin4pigham150 so I figured out how to program the keys. Which feels weird. Probably going to move to another daw too. Looks like either way it’ll be about $200. I’m really thinking Logic Pro.
@@chuckytherapper I’d highly recommend ableton. I’m pretty sure all novation controllers come with ableton lite. I just love the workflow of ableton it’s so quick to edit stuff and I really love how when you zoom in it automatically changes from 1/16 to 1/32 to 1/64 ect ect. Idk maybe logic has that? I’ve used ableton, GarageBand, reaper, fruity loops but never logic.
@@scammin4pigham150 ohhh well its all hear say but ive heard that ableton comes with more plug ins where as in Logic you have to purchase some add ons. BUT you do get the best version of Logic right away for only a one time purchase. And the best version of Ableton i think is a monthly payment. I'm starting to see more and more of both the more I collaborate. I honestly think the best investment is pro tools I just want to avoid any learning curves because its hindered my creativity in the past ya know?
Any tips on using garage band for live looping? I just want to be able to set up triggers to switch between tracks that has live instruments hooked up so I can play guitar,drums,bass,etc... and keep looping over each other
Hi Chris! Did you eventually manage to find a solution? I am also looking for some easy live looping, without having to use a looper, as I’m travelling the world. :)
has anyone seen any videos on mapping the knobs of a controller, such as the komplete kontrol a49? it seems like it'd be a similar technique, and this was definitely helpful!
So I seemed to miss at around 2 mins what you do to get the drum sounds. I just have sine wave sounds. Is it not explained correctly? Did you skip important stages?
You have to import your own sounds. Say for example you download a drum pack from cymatics, you could upload the zip or wav files for the sounds and it will replace the default sine sound.
you can get drum sounds off the internet, it’s easier once downloaded to separate them into hi hats, kicks, snares, and percs using folders on your desktop. once they’re downloaded from the internet you can load them into garageband and assign your kicks snares and hi hats separately to whatever pads or keys on your midi controller. hope that makes more sense!
Very good attitude to have. It’s taking me 9 months to learn what I’m learning and I’m just now finding out people really do hold out. It’s a shame. The way I look at it you either have confidence in yourself or you don’t. Helping one another out is a basic human condition. And it shows class. So 👏 good for you. That’s the way it should be. People helping each other out. And if you are afraid of a little competition then your content must not be very original and they are afraid of a little. And most likely not have anything worth for “me” to listen to because uniqueness cannot be imitated. Otherwise your just a dlc skin. If your just a skin what you gonna do when that spotlight shines 😅 I got a cane 🦯 to drag your ass off stage don’t worry 🤣
Cool vid, man! thats a nice method for sampling, and you are right, I think also that GB is just logic pro with less options.., and to make a differrence of 200 bugs they just give you one midi input instead of many as in Logic..i guess....so my question to you, i searched for a while and did not find any answer: How to use one midikeys to play 2 software instruments in GB at the same time in different split zones, e.g. bass with the left and another instrument with my right hand If you have a solution for that I think there will be many...many people appreciating that..!!
I would imagine that you could find the sample of each instrument that you wish to play and assign them to each of the keys (one instrument on the upper half, like you're saying, and the other to the lower half), while keeping pitch engaged. If I get a chance, before the weekend is out, I'll try it myself and let you know. While it might seem taxing, time wise, that seems the logical fix...in theory, anyways. Good luck.
Do you have any idea how I would layer samples into my electronica drum set that is acting as a midi controller I’d like to be able to hit one drum and play series of courts or something like that. Thanks for help
Is there a way to map pads? Like on my MIDI keyboard assign different sound to the pads?
Did you ever figure it out? Thats why im watching this video too.

Or is there a way to cut off a layer without it playing all the way through?

Can you assign knobs on a midi keyboard the parameters on the track control panel, can't seem to find a solution to that
