My father, passed away now too, was a senior chief flight test engineer at Edwards during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. As a young boy I grew up around Chuck, and all the rest of those great guys out there in the 60's. All national hero's that were amazing in what they could do. Bigger than life is how I remember them back in those days. Another one was Chuck Lewis, that guy was both a Top Surgeon and a Top Pilot who took me for a big ride in the sky when I was 10. It was a challenge with a bet made that everyone knew about but me. All the guys were out there on the runway laughing after we landed and they saw me get out. That's how it really was back then. Rip to Chuck and the other guys gone now too.

Great story. I enjoyed reading. Chuck is an American legend.. the most famous test pilot, along with Armstrong, this country will ever know. What a blessing to grow up around that man. God speed.

Yes, Sam Shepard played Chuck Yeager in "The Right Stuff" (1983). Great book and film. Sam sadly contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and passed in 2017 at age 73. Chuck Yeager passed in 2020 at age 97. A hero (WW2 pilot and Ace) and a real gentleman.

Back in the '80s and '90s, I was working for a federal audit agency at Northrop in Hawthorne, CA. One of my jobs was to review the descriptions of work done by consultants to Northrop, of which Chuck Yeager was one. I remember reading his compositions and really being impressed with the level of detail. Where some people would write very little, leaving you to wonder what they did (if anything), he would write in great detail.

Yeager was not simply the first man to break the sound barrier. He did it in level flight. That's the greater accomplishment. He didn't do it like a rock with a motor attached. Several men claim to have broken the sound barrier before Yeager. Some have good claim, but that was in a dive. Chuck rode it to the horizon.

My Col father was high ranking in Air Force got me a personal 1 on 1 flight when I was younger with chuck yeager in a p51 mustang! I will forever remember that, but at that time I hated heights, plains, and was very hesitant of going, I had this imagined idea of barrel rolls, and loops, and dog fighting Ariel Maneuvers but was nothing like that. I was also able and lucky enough to meet last living 🇯🇵 fighter pilot, John glen, Neil Armstrong, and many other historical people that day, my dad was basically spending all week with chuck and John showing them where to go and be at certain times and places to sign autographs on these commemorative posters that were low number items and most going to certain high ranking military officers and your average person would never get to see these people, see those posters hand signed personally by each person or fly with them, and here I was just a young dependent of my military father and he pulls stings for me to be apart of it all is mind blowing still

One of our greatest WWII heroes, who continued to serve in Korea and Viet Nam, along with fellow legends Bud Anderson and Robin Olds. How ironic, like Eisenhower, Yeager carries a name of German origin and was instrumental in defeating Hitler and Germany !! His name literally means " hunter" in German !! It is almost biblical.....like Joshua Chamberlain at Gettysburg. I experienced him leading a flight of P-51 Mustangs that buzzed the crowd at the Indianapolis 500 in 1995.....the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. His plane roared so close to the top of the grandstand that it shook the structure so hard that unsuspecting fans filled their shorts with last night's dinner !!! Young people in our nation need to read and learn about Chuck Yeager, and the other men like him who were courageous and dedicated warriors for our nation.......without whom we may be all "goose stepping" today in obedience to evil masters.

    Jesus Christ saves from sin.
    Romans 3: 23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Hebrews 9: 27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
    Isaiah 64: 6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Revelation 21: 8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Romans 5: 8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 14: 6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Romans 10: 9-10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Jesus said John 5: 24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    1John 5: 10-13
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
    Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Romans 8: 1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    2 Corinthians 5: 21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
