I wish it had an LCD display like the 920! I hate AMOLED displays as they are not as sharp and you get burn in!
People just underrate wp8 so much.........im so happy with my 820 and ive been using it for abt 5 months
You're the only review that complained about the outside screen view. Everyone has noted how great the outside screen view has been.
Amazing handset, really looking forward to get one despite only just upgrading to Nokia Lumia 925! :-)
You should put the sample pictures that were taken in the description.
Just for the sake of information (?), the full res pictures on Nokia's press website are mostly just over 10 MB. So if you dedicate 10 GB of the 32 GB for pictures you would get about 1000 pictures (because it also saves a 5 MP version). It isn't loads but it isn't too bad.
The video quality is surprisingly good.
With very good dynamic range
1020 with 5 inch 1080p screen would be perfect phone for me. But screen just kills it.. Its too small and resolution is so low that pictures you take cant be seen the way they are due to limit of pixels..

None of the google applications are there because it uses Windows Phone 8, which is an OS developed by Microsoft, which happened to also make Bing, which actually works great on the phone.
There is now an official Instagram app known as "6tagram" is in the works, and all the social networks can be streamlined into the people section as the phone, which again is really nice.
Perhaps not all the devs see a point in coming to WP8, but there are a lot of apps coming out, wp8 IS growing.

I used to have a 808 pureview and the camera was just amazing but the OS isnt at the same level
Actually windows phone 8 is going better by the time so i will probably buy a Lumia 1020 and see whats on windows
Pro tip for the reviewer: you don't have to gerbil wheel the app list. If the letter blocks are visible, just hit one to bring up the alphabet grid, then select a letter to go directly to that section. If you're doing it just to be thorough...never mind.

Is the reinvented zoom of 1020 only limited for the device. I mean, can we zoom for those details when we transfer the image on the desktop.
I am not able to find any high resolution images clicked by a 1020 on the web.

because it is really the only problem i have with that comment. the other comments are of his personal opinion besides the screen ( though a slightly lower res screen isnt gonna be a huge issue) and micro sd. but for the simple user who doesnt need lots of apps or games only on android/iOS, those points dont come into play when buying a new phone, it'll just be choosing an OS you prefer to use everyday but if you tend to want to get lots of apps then WP isnt for you at the moment.
Aside from apps I wouldn't call the iphone 5 more well rounded. If you are gonna lump the iphone 5 with the htc one and the gs4, might as well lump this in there too, considering this has more ram,a better screen, a better camera and about the same battery life as the iphone 5.

WP8 is selling fine in other countries in fact in some it's at the top. Ever heard of instagraph, instance, and 6tagram(approved by instagram). Facebook does have a native app on WP8 and it's up to par with android and iOS. Check your facts...

Although it is easy to say this in hindsight, given the problems with Symbian, it would have been a better idea for Nokia to make Android phones. An Android phone with a 41 Mega Pixel PureView Camera would have been a fantastic smartphone.

well most of the popular app developer on both google play and apple appstore is now developing their games on the windows phone 8 platform + with windows 8 pc the the windows 8 market is largely growing, may i ask you, do you really use all the apps in the appstore or the google play? and also the lumia 1020 has a usb on the go feature which allows you to plug in a usb device via a usb connector.
can we insert microSD memory card into that Lumia 1020 ?

You shouldn't need to, it usually has 32gb of storage space already.

Well if you take alot of pictures and you need a camera also then I suggest Nokia Lumia 1020. If you would like a regular phone then I prefer Nokia Lumia 925. I personally have Nokia Lumia 925 and I don't take alot of photos so this works best for me. Hope this helped you!

does the white theme run the battery life on the 1020
The Amoled screens kill completely the black pixels, so they don't even light up, so having a black theme will save your battery.
When is Android phones going to bring a 41 mega pixel camera? :( im waiting...
WP doesnt need a quad core or an octo core unlike android to be smooth. having such a power processor would only reduce its battery life.

This is the first respectable Windows phone I've ever seen.
It doesn't seem like you have ever actually used a Windows phone device before, out of all the very popular social media apps that are on iOS or Android, WP8 probably has around 70-80% of them, and a load of 3rd party applications that make of for the ones that aren't there.
Is it compatible with ITunes?

Windows are coming from a low base but already have 7%+ market shares in several markets in Europe. iPhone was disparaged when it first came out.
Instagram should get with the program or open its API more so third party programs can do it for it.
I wouldn't expect Google to provide a full suite of apps for a Windows Phone. Microsoft aren't doing that for Android. Microsoft stated a few days ago that people will have to sub to Office 365 to get access to the Android/iOS app.

2: It's not iphone or samsung. This is Nokia.
3: Get use to it.
4: It is already fast for an optimized OS. Androids are Java stacks, its not smooth and consume more memory.

No, Nokia isn't moving to an OS that already has OEMs in a tug-a-war with Samsung to get limelight. Building a mobile ecosystem takes time, and with time Windows Phone 8 will prosper. You want an Android phone like this? Get the Galaxy S 4 zoom instead of knocking other people in the comments if they find the 1020 worth the buy.

diamond cocky i think there's no google play. since microsoft and google not "friends". go watch lumia 1020 review by marquez brownlee. many of google apps with 1-2 stars review on there.

READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO BUY LUMIA! Let me start by saying this phone is bad news. I got two to play with. First thing you will notice is the battery draining fast. When i say fast i mean really REALLY fast. Especially if you left iphone to come to this phone, you will notice the difference. This phone will make you paranoid to check the battery every five minutes. What you should know before you buy:
1) battery wont last a day, even on light usage you must be very lucky if it stays on
2) many users of 1020 reported rapid battery drainage for no reason on standby(including me). I replaced it with another and it was slightly better.
3) comes with many features which are useless because you have to make the battery to survive the day. This means NFC off, location services off, 4G off, glance off, tap to wake up off, and basically all the cool stuff off. Now thats not fair at all. If you make a phone with these features why we cant use them? Instead Nokia has tips how to disable every damn feature to make the battery last.
4)the phone barely lasts to take some pics, imagine playing games on it
5)the screens are defective. Try a dark background in a dark room, you will most likely find blobs and spots(if so request refund).
6)you will need to charge it at least twice a day
7)once again the battery life is incredibly bad for a phone with such a great camera. Thats why they created the battery pack for it.
8)apps like whatsapp drain the battery super fast
9)there is no option to email or share the 41 megapixel photo, you have to export it on the computer first!
10)battery drops 20-30% per hour in some cases more
To summarize, this phone is the worst phone I got in my life. The battery life is ridiculous! Google it if you dont believe me, i just felt that if you want to spend hard earned money on this its not fair and i should warn you. The camera is amazing, like wow amazing, but what do you need a camera so great when the battery is bad? Windows store is slowly expanding but the apps are just not enough. When i say not enough i dont mean quantity but quality. No real youtube app for example. Or even worse, skype is buggy and has less features than iphone's skype, like how is that possible? Their own app on their device is worse than on other devices. Do you really need a phone that has bad support, bad battery life, bad apps?
Oh MY !! I bought mine yesterday, to replace my iPhone 5 :P
Still haven't used the Lumia yet.. so i hope i'm not going to be too disappointed

7 gigs of skydrive space. 336 ppi (better than iPhone). Still faster than android even with dual core. I'm guessing you haven't held one yet because mine is perfectly fine to hold... wp has great developer support so apps isn't a good reason anymore.

Android needed a dualcore to run somewhat okay. With a 4core it runs good but not great as it still lags and freezes. Windows Phone 8 only needs one core to run smooth. Same with iOS. Want to know why? The phone software is optimized and tweaked for its hardware. Unlike Android.

You seem to be misinformed as to how electronics work or what these "cores" do.
You fail to give me a comprehensive response. A personal computer uses a different algorithm which is x64 or x86.
These run on a different processor and the way you go around them is different.
It's like you're comparing a quadcore A6 processor with a quadcore i7 haswell processor. They are different. Until you can understand the difference, you'll see that CODING at this level can make or break "games" as u call it
What you guys need to know is that although the camera is nice, 41 megapixels consumes A LOT of memory, before you know it, all your storage will be gone.
