Have been watching this video several times, I would say this is the best Lumia 1020 review through UA-cam! Really missing these awesome designs from Nokia. All the best for both Pocketnow and MrMobile! :D
barely would Michael guess that the Mullet haircut came back to revelance. what a throwback that shows how skilled Michael is at reviewing tech that still is seen today
Great review Michael! I got mine a couple of days ago and the camera is awesome! This is also my first Windows Phone and I'm enjoying the experience. My main hang up right now is with call quality. I get a sharp hissing noise at times on phone calls. Other than that, this is a pretty sweet phone with a really sweet camera.
I got this phone for my father and he's very pleased with it. He usually has major gripes with the other phones we've gotten him over the years for various reasons, but the 1020 hits the sweet spot. It's easy to use, feels solid and has an amazing camera. Although I used the 1020 for 2 weeks before surrendering it back, what stopped me from buying one for myself was the lack of apps in the MS store. If you can live without a ton of 3rd party apps and love great pics, this is a great phone!
Not only was this a good review, but also a good reviewer, something i haven't said before. This reviewer seemed to care about everyone's wants and needs and explain unbiased if the 1020 would suit, all in all an almost perfect review, well done
This review was phenomenal. I wish I could produce something a tenth as well done. Those photos were incredible. The pureview was something I've seen so much of in the past and finally seeing the results are nice. I Just got myself an S4 recently though, so I hope Nokia opens up to other networks.
I love this review. I actually love all of your videos. But there's something I heard here that grabbed me by the throat... "Photobomber removal"... Now who would want to remove a photobomber from a photo?! Haha :D
My Lumia 635 4G still has Windows 8.1 and it is working properly. I think this is that mobile that still has a better camera than the latest 64MP Samsungs... Now my new mobile is a Xiaomi Redmi 9. It has wide screen cam, but Nokia was better once.
Well, I know which phone is Michael's new daily driver. This phone is awesome. I have been putting the camera to the test. It definitely lives up to the hype. Nice video, Michael.
I just got to say that the review itself is fantastic. It is in-depth, but never overbearing. Its visuals are also very well done. What's even more impressive is how I don't give a rats ass about WP or this phone, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Great job Michael.
Question - Per the spec's from AT&T website Front-facing camera 2MP with f/2.4 aperture; 720p HD video capture and playback Is the 2 mp front facing camera an AT&T exclusive? or is this just a typo on their website? Nokia's own website says it is a 1.2 mp camera
Michael, would you know if the Nokia Lumia 1020 can take successive shots (not forced burst mode). Because with the SGS3, one can take successive shots by pressing the shutter button repeatedly with little or no lag. Thanks.
really love the way that you made the review!! i just wanna know how many time the battery can stay if ur constantly on the internet and social media?? without using the camera, and if you use a really heavy game almost all day?
I'm missing my Lumia 1020, but the app support just isn't there, neither is support from Microsoft beyond Windows Phone 10 (sadly, my 1020 wasn't upgradable as initially promised). After 2 and a half years, I finally had to give in to Android. It's definitely nice to have every app available, but I'm definitely gonna miss the simplicity of Windows Phone and the insane 41mp camera. (side note: I was really only forced to upgrade when the power button got stuck)
I still have an HTC Titan II. Almost bought a 1520 today but its so damn big! I love the idea of the 1020, I just don't want to have to wait too long between shots. I wish there would be an ATT WP8 device that has the internals of a 1520 but the size of a 1020.
how come I have a different menu under Settings as in this vid? Nowhere any option for 'sound'!! Under Audio only 'equalizer and enhancements', meant for a compatible audio accessory. My video does not record sound?!!
I love the irony at 11:25 when they pan across a collection of old, outdated pieces of tech with a BlackBerry in the middle... This coming from a Bold 9900 user. I like Android, but frankly Windows Phone really does intrigue me. I like how it's different, elegant and smooth. I'll be upgrading my smartphone when the plan runs out early next year, and WP8 devices are definitely on my watch list.
Great review Micheal! I have to ask tough, when in hand does the camera feel like a hindrance? I'm only asking because the 920 has one of the best in hand feels any phone has to offer.
I think you should also do a comparison between Lumia 1020 and iPhone 5. It's interesting to see how the camera quality hold up against the creditable iPhone.
I really wanted a 920 or this 1020, but I ended up settling for an Xperia ZL for its expandable memory, rubberized back, familiar&customizable interface with Sony's tweaks and the stamina mode for the battery.
A 64GB version is available here in the UK via the O2 network. That's my network and I'm giving this phone some serious consideration! (upgrading next month)
excellent review, the 1020 is an amazing phone, and to be honest the time the camera app takes to launch is reasonable, seeing that it takes such high quality photos, in reality if you were walking down the street and saw something you wanted to take a picture of, it would still take longer on the iphone and the galaxy s4, because you would have to take your phone out of your pocket, then unlock it, then launch the camera, the 1020 will still be quicker because of the dedicated camera button
Great review. However, if it stutters during your review, I am afraid to think how 1020 is going to struggle once you download few apps and try to run them in the background - that of course if windows phone can run multiple apps at the time. (and no, I am not been sarcastic.)
It allows 6x "lossless" zoom i.e. without any loss of resolution. You can also zoom in like you do on other phones but you'll lose resolution, like on other phones.
Love your videos Micheal ! specially your Nokia videos...coz I'm a Nokia fan ;) =D I specially liked your comparison videos between Nokia Lumia 9/1020 with other Android smartphones...wish u could do a comparison between Nokia Lumia 1020 with iPhone 5 ! that'd be Great ! Thanks :)
they had to make it non removable to keep the phone thin and light while keeping the necessary rigidity to protect that huge camera sensor at the back.but they do have the slave battery+handle extension that should double the battery life when doing heavy photography.
MF is one of the best reviewer Ive watched in years. I think this phone is awesome and very innovative. Though its not for me, I still love my HTC One to much.
Here after watching Michael's own "When phones were fun" review of this phone. Great content in both eras!
Who's here after his P40 pro plus review?
Thanks, Paul! And I'm glad the audio effects of the filters came through on the video. ^MF
Even by today's (2017) standards, that's a great camera.
Now THIS is how a review should be conducted! Thank you Michael! The 200khz bass reduction sounded really incredible eh?
Thanks for the confirmation, waiting for the written review. Keep up the great work, Cheers :)
It is one amazing device. Even with a 3 year old processor, it rarely skips a beat. I absolutely love mine.
Over 5 years later, and those pictures still look pretty impressive.
By far my favorite reviewer. Keep it up man, I'll keep watching.

A solid review. Wonder how I've missed this site so far. The reviewer was also quite pleasant to listen to. Well-presented indeed.
barely would Michael guess that the Mullet haircut came back to revelance. what a throwback that shows how skilled Michael is at reviewing tech that still is seen today
pocketnow's reviews have definitely matured over the years. ITS GREAT!

Michael's emphatic choice of words with dead panned delivery is hilariously accurate.
Another great video review Mr Fisher!

I Just got myself an S4 recently though, so I hope Nokia opens up to other networks.
You guys do an awesome job with your reviews. That's high praise with all the competition out there. Well done!
MIchael is one of the best in the phone review biz. Love his commentary and delivery. Big ups, @Captain2Phones!
I love this review. I actually love all of your videos. But there's something I heard here that grabbed me by the throat... "Photobomber removal"... Now who would want to remove a photobomber from a photo?! Haha :D
Wow! Amazing, unbiased review! Great work.
Great review as always Michael Fisher! :)

Who's Here After Michael Fischer's When Phones Were Fun Video?
Well, I know which phone is Michael's new daily driver.
This phone is awesome. I have been putting the camera to the test. It definitely lives up to the hype. Nice video, Michael.
Love these videos, the reviews are seriously top notch!

We did receive the update, but we haven't yet fully evaluated it. Standby for full review. ^MF
hey Michael
Just an information , in Windows phone we close apps by clicking on the arrow not on the windows logo
I don't always watch phone reviews, but when I do Mike is the best!
Another class review from the folk's at pocketnow. Cheers Michael :)
it'd be awesome if you did a then and now review for the 1020
I was thinking the same thing.
they did, it's on their channel
You have some of the most professional reviews on the internet. Great review
If I can snag one at retail tomorrow when I buy my new personal DD, I will. Nokia hasn't yet sent us one for review. And, thanks! ^MF
I heard that nokia have already issued an update to the Pro Cam App to fix the crash and lag. Can you please confirm it?
Awesome review as always Michael ^_^ Your reviews are always incredible in detail and visuals :-) Keep it up !!!!!!
Why Michael says ten twety and not twenty?
PS I like so much your channel Michael....
Still my favorite phone to date. Using an Alcatel Idol 4S Windows right now but probably will switch back to this one at some point...
Well done Michael! As usual.
Will the 822, 820 or other mid range WP8 phones be getting the new software update?
Question - Per the spec's from AT&T website

Is the 2 mp front facing camera an AT&T exclusive? or is this just a typo on their website?

You are the best reviewer on YT. Good job.
Thanks micheal fisher for having the only pocketnow reviewer name that I can understand.
Excelent review Michael !

great in depth review. very much considering upgrading though the wireless charge will surely be missed. great added touch w/ the yellow shades too.
I sure miss this platform.
MrMobile good to see you in this corner of the Internet
CNET's Molly should learn how to review a phone from POCKETNOW's Michael!
Excellent, Unbiased review!
Great Review by the way Mr. Stark! 😊

Great review Micheal! I have to ask tough, when in hand does the camera feel like a hindrance? I'm only asking because the 920 has one of the best in hand feels any phone has to offer.
Best youtube reviewer ever!
The best reviewer ever, i like this guy so much
Best phone reviewer on UA-cam.
Love your videos man!!!
You deserve my like because AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!
You take great photos Michael!
I think you should also do a comparison between Lumia 1020 and iPhone 5. It's interesting to see how the camera quality hold up against the creditable iPhone.
I love the idea of such an overpowered camera, can't wait to see how everyone else tries to catch up while Nokia advances this camera further
4:38 only in portugal?:)
Micheal are you going to get the camera grip in for review? Also, great job on the review as always.
great review as always.
I really wanted a 920 or this 1020, but I ended up settling for an Xperia ZL for its expandable memory, rubberized back, familiar&customizable interface with Sony's tweaks and the stamina mode for the battery.

I'm so used to android. But I love the camera on this. Any advice?
Great review and presentation.

Good review, but you failed to mention Xenon flash and lossless zoom.
Great Review!
when will this be released in canada
Thanks for a great review
freakin BEAST. Makes my 920 looks small. Gonna upgrade to a 1020 one day for sure...
S4? iPhone5? That's okay....maybe next time
It allows 6x "lossless" zoom i.e. without any loss of resolution. You can also zoom in like you do on other phones but you'll lose resolution, like on other phones.
He's talking about the ratings on the Samsung S4 rating 8.8. We were comparing them with the Lumia being 8.9
Dude! I visit Somerville almost every week!
The 3 Data Sense apps avaiable are from the 3 major Portuguese carriers.... and I had no idea about it. Thanks for that :-D
Brilliant review
As always good review.
Thanks :)
These Lumia phones were so slick looking. Why HMD didn’t revive this with their license of the Nokia brand was a missed opportunity.
they had to make it non removable to keep the phone thin and light while keeping the necessary rigidity to protect that huge camera sensor at the back.but they do have the slave battery+handle extension that should double the battery life when doing heavy photography.
MF is one of the best reviewer Ive watched in years. I think this phone is awesome and very innovative. Though its not for me, I still love my HTC One to much.
