I think the country that has the most sheep is New Zealand. I visited there when I was small and we went to the AGRODOME where they did a presentation all about the different breeds of sheep in New Zealand. They also sheered a sheep and I got to get up on stage and bottle feed a lamb. It was very fun and educational!

Google tells me China has the most sheep, which I can say would have been one of my last guesses, as with Texas for the sheep. I think my mind went on its own to places we associate with sheep, like many European countries and states like Montana. Very interesting, I like the educational aspect of your podcast. Hope you continue on your podcasting path.

My guess was Australia and Texas. So half right? I really love everyone’s cast on rules. Mine is one small project (hat/scarf/sock), like something I can fit in a small project bag. One large mindless knit, something I can watch videos to and just zone out but is larger (sweater/blanket/shawl). And one “I’m flexing my brain” knit. That knit that gets me out of my comfort zone and makes me learn and focus and count and pay attention. Color work is something I’m trying now. Size doesn’t matter. If I get close to finishing one, then I get to plan and buy for the next. I try not to have more than 3 Wips at a time. I get too worried about speed then and lose the fun of just being in the process.
Also love your channel! You have such a nice cadence and easy personality that is fun to listen to. I am rooting for a successful “experiment!” ❤

Love this podcast channel idea, Love the Lindal shawl, beautiful!!! Like you I'm on a buying yarn "diet" which is NOT working well for me. I'm proud of finishing a few projects from stash, but I fell in love with the Yakima by Plymouth Yarn and just purchased a sweater quantity. So diet starts again tomorrow :) I also love the trivia idea. I think (before googling it), the country with the largest number of sheep is Argentina.

I’ve just had your channel appear on my feed and I’ve enjoyed it so much, I really hope you continue. The shawl is absolutely beautiful (but I have too many shawls 😂) and the mosaic blanket is something I’d like to make. I’m trying to work through my stash but I knit a lot of socks for my husband, vanilla so mindless, and have just purchased some yarn for those … Thankyou for a really great video.

Hi Laura. I stumbled upon your channel via the You Tube algorithms and am enjoying listening to you very much. I hope to decide to continue podcasting. Love your mosaic blanket and the Lindal is so beautiful. Reminds me a bit of the Butterfly/Papillon shawl I knit several years ago. My first guess on the trivia question was New Zealand as I heard they have quite a few sheep and either Montana or Texas. Looks like I was wrong on the country and half right on the state. China and Texas ... who knew? I almost always have a rule when buying yarn. That is, I only buy when I have a project in mind. My stash mainly consists of leftover yarn from projects or full skeins when I bought too much for a project. However, my project yarn shelves are full to bursting. Not sure I am ever going to knit all the projects I have yarn for!

Enjoyed your podcast. A nice refreshing take on knitting. I too am trying a No Buy year. I have everything listed in Ravelry, so at the start of the year, I wrote down Total # skeins and total yards. When I think of buying something, I refer back to those numbers, that shocks me out of buying..😆😆. I also use the Ravelry feature of Challenge in the Project section. So I set a goal each year - see how well I can do. Good luck with the podcast.

Looking forward to hearing your next episode talking about Advent Calendars. I purchased my first one a couple years ago, but haven't knit with the yarn yet, so am holding off on another purchase at this point until I come up with an advent design, but the one I did end up buying is from Zakami Yarns. I am absolutely in love with the color palette and was really happy with my purchase. It not only came with all the yarn for the month in beautiful little individually wrapped skeins, but it also included a package of tea, a little picture frame, and a calendar for last year. I actually love the calendar so much that I still have it hanging up and still flip the pages each month - at least the month is correct, and the photos are inspiring! It's definitely on my list of new designs to contemplate! Thanks again for such a great episode.

Love your podcasts. I am doing a 'low buy' year. I am using as much stash as possible. As I have been cataloguing my stash I am finding yarns I want to cast on immediately. So, no buy = heavy cast ons year? LOL! I have bought some yarn, but very little. I have plenty, and I want to translate the fun of buying into the fun of knitting. I also love the challenge of finding projects to use that yarn for. Like you, I am an accessories type knitter. I knit very few sweater, but many hats, socks, scarves, cowls, mittens, and cat nip toys.

I just finished a hat with a yarn that sounds similar in feel to the yarn you are using to make the March Hat. It's called Stone Wool Worsted Cormo (sold by Quince and Co.). My yarn feels somewhere in-between woolen and worsted spun, very bouncy, and what I describe as velvety (sticky). My theory is that the ribbing for your hat would pull in more if you knit at a looser gauge.
Thank you for this comment! I think you're right. I had to use a small needle size to get gauge but I do feel like that was contributing to the problem. Spoiler for next time: I ended up frogging it so I can use the yarn for a pattern it's more suited to!

My guess New Zealand. Millions of sheep thousands of people. So NZ. I'm a Medieval Historian so love history too
My first guess without googling - for the country with most sheep is Australia or New Zealand (probably New Zealand). as to the US state I think it would be one on the East coast.

Do you know of any other colour shifting yarns that would work the same as the yarn you used for your Lindal Shawl
I want to do an episode soon about color shifting yarns! I bought a couple at Rhinebeck last year but haven't knit them up yet. One company was Feederbrook Farm and the other was Ewetopia. Spincycle Dreamstate would probably work as well but would be even more expensive than the Junction Fiber Mill Making Tracks (I think they charge about the same for half the yardage). I think Knit Picks has some color changing yarns but I'm not sure what weights they come in these days. I would say the texture is not as nice on those.
I would have guessed New Zealand because I do know their sheep population is higher than their human population. However, since they don't have a big population apparently I'm wrong 😅
Hahaha yes, the answer feels more obvious when you think about geographic size and population. I would have guessed a place like NZ too because we always hear about their sheep.

Secondly, I’m laughing at your 500 subscriber benchmark for Instagram since it feels super relatable! I started a channel back in the fall and am waiting to hit 1,000 before I tell friends/family or share on Instagram - right now its a very public secret 😂 I’m looking forward to the rest of the video and seeing your knitting style
I love your projects! The shawl especially is gorgeous - I’d love to knit it at some point since it seems like I’d learn a ton making it. I’m very interested in learning more about the history of knitting and specifically the cultural history of different knitting styles. Would love it if you did an episode featuring knitting books at some point (more historical rather than patterns and stitch dictionaries). I’m looking forward to future episodes!
