the ribbing on the honey comb stripe hat is called mistake rib stitch. its one of my favorite stitches but it does take a lot of yarn and pulls in a lot
Love the hats! I have knit hundreds of hats over the last 40+ years. I gift many of them, used to sell them, and wear some of them. So..lots off new ideas here. One comment you make is 'it's itchy.' Here's a trick that might help-fill a large bowl with warm water and hair conditioner. Make sure the conditioner is well dissolved, and let the hat soak. Rinse and repeat if necessary. The conditioner may soften the wool and help the itch factor. RIBING--I think it may well be a Fisherman's Rib. I have knitted it in scarves.
The musselburgh is my "waiting room"/ stash-busting/ all ways working on one knit. It's perfect for when I need something mindless but my fingers are fidgety. I have a lot of waiting for kids to finish time where something I can just pick up and go and drop immediately time. It's also great because I can completely use up random scraps with stripes. And I live somewhere cold so I can always donate something no one in the family likes the finished hat. but I totally understand why it would not be fun for a lot of people
Great video. It’s so funny how particular we all are about hat fit and feel. Like I thought they all looked super on you. But I would be exactly the same as you about what bothered me and what went ok 😊
I really enjoyed this episode. I am currently working on what I will call half of a musselburgh. It will be double brimmed. I didn’t think I had enough yarn for a full musselburgh but then found the other 50g ball. You gave me a lot of ideas for my next project.
Another fun video! My DIL lives in CO and could make great use of that pinkish bulky hat. Gonna be in your area around Mother’s Day weekend, maybe we could meet up?
I love this episode so much! My hat preference is a blend of a hat/beret, single brim and I do like it slightly roomy/slouchy. However I do have one hat that I do really like the thicker double cuff. My favorite hat is a really thick plush hat. Because I have short thick slightly curly hair, I tend to place my hat brim about two inches back from my hairline (even with the front of my ears) so I like my brim/cuff ribbing on the tighter side so that it can’t just slide off.
@peggytraeg I wanted to add that if you're on ravelry you can view my project "salt-n-pepper hat" I have additional info in my notes, my rav name is also theyarngoeson and I just saw that I made the hat in 2013.
Thank you very much for the video! You look great in all your hats! The difference between tubular and Italian bind off is in final rows. Tubular has got double knitting rows which give a tube feel and look. The method of inserting the needle is the same for both. Learned it from this video ua-cam.com/video/p5CB95qtV_I/v-deo.html
I can't stop laughing at "no offense to anyone who may be trying to look like a keebler elf" 😂.
Lol, an absurd statement now that I pause to think about it. Thank you for making me laugh too!

Oooo! I like the Jeopardy hat!
Great video! Hats off to you! 😊

Thanks for the tip! I did try conditioner once and it didn't seem to help but maybe I need to tinker with the conditions a bit.
Thank you for making this video!! There were several hats that I am adding to my to be knit list. Until the next video!!
Would love to hear which ones you make in the future!
Modified Fisherman's Knit Rib. I really love that hat on you; you look great in it.
Thank you! I will look up modified fisherman's rib!

Yessss, it's perfect for waiting rooms and meetings! Would love to see your striped versions.
The ribbing is called Mistake Rib. I think it was so named because someone goofed on a 2x2 rib and this is what they ended up with.
Thank you!
That is a type of broken rib. I have a summer sweater that I knit with the same pattern (26 years ago).
Great video. It’s so funny how particular we all are about hat fit and feel. Like I thought they all looked super on you. But I would be exactly the same as you about what bothered me and what went ok 😊
Lol, honestly, watching it back I thought some of the hats looked better than I'd thought too. Thank you for saying this!

Sounds like a fun project! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your video.
That's a LOT of hats! Kudos to you. Looking forward to seeing more. Make sure you wear that Jeopardy hat next time they call you to compete again!! 😊
great idea!!

What pattern would you recommend for the type of hat you enjoy wearing.
@@peggytraeg I used the Starving Artist by Laura Linneman.

Thanks for sharing your ideal hat features! I learned a lot about my own just from making this video.
I was thinking this ribbing was just something Stephen West made up. I was going to name it Stephen West broken rib lol.
We can call it that unofficially ;)
I think it might be a cartridge rib.
Thank you, I will look that up!
The name of the ribbing may be called the "mistaken ribbing".
Thank you!
