    Solid, fair and accurate review. I've had my xt3 for 3 months now and I'm having the same experience. I did just switch from Canon and there is little that I miss. I will say that the biggest differences between the two systems is that the Canon had MUCH better battery life, much faster and better auto-focus and I never really needed to turn it off. I would let it go into sleep mode. it would instantly tun on with when I pressed the trigger. When the xt3 goes into sleep mode, it takes forever for it to wake back up after pushing the trigger. It's better to just turn the xt3 off. And then, as soon as you turn it on, it's ready to rock. The film simulations are great to use as well. It's a totally different shooting experience. It feels more natural to use. It just makes sense to pick the film stock for the look that you want. On another note, when I got my xt3 Lightroom didn't support the xt3's RAW files yet, so I had to switch to Capture ONE. I really enjoy how CaptureOne has integrated with Fuji files.

    That's the magic with Fuji...... Noise really looks stunningly good, I cannot name it like noise... It really looks like real film grain and that is pretty indeed

    • @outoforder0
      @outoforder0 5 років тому +5

      @moo it is actually. It can produce different types of grain. You just have to select them in menus.

    • @jd2086
      @jd2086 5 років тому +9

      moo I mean, if you look closely to noise patterns and quality you will notice something in common, a lot of rgb noise and it is pretty destructive, you can see it by yourself in Sony aIII photos and noise handling, there’s a lot of rgb noise specially red en blue dots, same for canon... there’s something about the processing of noise from Fuji that noise only appears as grain with no artifacts and colors, that’s why fujI noise is called grain in some cases because it is not destructive and it lacks rgb artifacts. If you wanted to see it by yourself take a look at the samples and the comparison tool in dp reviews page, you will understand what I am saying

    I just got an X-T3 (coming from the X-E1, X100S and X-T2) and I've noticed that it makes even the focus of my notoriously slow 35/1.4 lens snappy. Beyond the improved autofocus the biggest advancements are in video capture and focus tracking. The Eterna film emulation is also lovely to have. It's basically a flat profile with great colors that only needs a tiny bit of tweaking in post.
    I also LOVE that I can update the firmware wirelessly through the app. Sweet!

      What do you think about noise and dynamic range compared to the xt2? A lot of people is saying that it is worse...

    I've been eyeing Fuji for a year coming from 15+ years with Canon. AF was the only thing that really set me back as it was very poor compared to DSLRs.
    But I still bought the XT20+56mm f1.2, last year's (2107) black friday on a killer deal, and to my surprise I preferred it to the 5DIII+85 f1.2 combo: no banding, no chroma noise, faster AF (85 vs 56).
    Now with the XT3, Fuji FINALLY does AF-C like a DSLR and you can now shoot sports with it. On the video side, the creamy, organic footage with film-like highlight roll-off is the closer you can get to a RED or ALEXA for under €10k. So I've switched from Canon 100%. Got 2 FUJI bodies and 6 lenses, for HALF the weight and HALF the cost compared to Canon. Surprisingly, the IQ difference between Fuji APS-C and FF Canon is almost negligible up to ISO 6400. I don't know how Fuji has done it. The only practical difference is the 1 stop DOF (APS-C vs FF) at equals F-stop, not an issue IMO with 1.2 and 1.4 lenses. Not at all in video, movies are filmed in S35.
    With Cameras being like computers these days, with such short life spans, Fuji setups saving 50% compared to other systems, is a great deal. You can invest the rest in tripods, flashes, lights, which will stay and see many bodies pass.
    Now waiting for the Fujinon MK 18-55 T2.9 cinema lens (a bargain among cinema lenses BTW).

    • @djtoman6875
      @djtoman6875 5 років тому

      J Enrique Great points. I am very pleased with the video quality from my X-T3 and barely use my Nikon cameras anymore.
      Can’t wait for that cine lens!

    • @N8ivAN1mal

      What's it like 1 month later?
      I've heard the raw photos and videos are hard to edit. (more taxing on the pc and weird lightroom problems)
      Can you give any opinions on that?

    • @TheDarkhorse228
      @TheDarkhorse228 5 років тому

      @@N8ivAN1mal Nothing to worry about. If you are editing in lightroom, it doesn't sharpen Fuji files well at all and makes them look like shit so i turned it off. If you want to get the absolute most out of Fuji files you'd have to switch to another image editor. Like Capture One for example.

    I'm a new subscriber ( about a month ago ). Your reviews are fantastic.
    I switched from Canon (was using a 60D for seven eight years) to the Fuji X-T3 and I absolutely LOVE this system. The glass is great and you don't have to plunk down as much hard cash as if you were in Sony, Canon or Nikon. As for the X-T3 body, I didn't realize how much faster one can change settings when you don't have to menu-dive. I found this to be an easy tool to learn. Last--I shoot RAW-jpeg and love that I can bluetooth the jpegs to my phone in an instant and send to family and friends--and the jpegs are great! So long Canon...

    Need help! A7iii or XT3 !?
    I really want the XT3 but I mainly shoot videoclips and music shows (some documentary work too) and i'm worried about low light ! I need to be able to go to 6400 while filming, the Sony deliver usable footage up to 12800 but I don't know about Fuji. I love film simulation, I love the character of the Fuji but I sadly need to film in low light, is the Fuji good enough ? (with the fuji I would get the 23mm 1.4 and probably the kit lens (and I would buy the 56 1.2 and the mitakon 35 0.95 in the near future). With the Sony I would get the Tamron 24-75 2.8 and I would buy the 85mm 1.8 and a rokinon 35 cine ds.
    Thanks !

    Been a lifetime Canon (mostly video) shooter and after eos R decided to switch. Looked at all the options and Fuji xt3 looked most appealing to me. Please make new video on options for EF-XF lens adapters and how well they work especially on XT3 video and af. I have seen your Fringer XH1 video, but would love to see it used on XT3 and maybe even some other smart adapter options out there! I would be most helpful!

    Cool review and great shoots Lee 🤘🏻 I'm still on the X-T2, and still not sure about getting the X-T3. There is a LOT I like but I was really waiting for a new battery. That crappy battery life is really a deal breaker 🤦🏻‍♂️ Fuji has to introduce a new one with the X-H2...

      @LeeZavitz  5 років тому +1

      ReN TiL yeah I wouldn’t upgrade if you’re happy with the xt2 it’s still an awesome camera! Have to wait a couple years for the XH2 and see if they will put a bigger battery in it. They have to. Plus it has the grip size to take a bigger battery

    • @djtoman6875
      @djtoman6875 5 років тому +2

      I have both X-T2 and X-T3 bodies, and unless you want to shoot video and especially use autofocus with video I would say there is little difference in practical operation between the two cameras. That said, as a hybrid shooter I just love the X-T3. I'm a Nikon shooter with Six Nikon DSLRs up to the D850, and I've decided that for an upcoming photo and video shoot in Mexico I will only take my Fujifilm bodies plus the 18-55, 16/1.4, 35/1.4 and a few legacy lenses like the Jupiter 9, Canon FD 24/2.8, and Helios 44-2 (and plenty of batteries) and leave the Nikons at home.
      Sad to say as a Nikon shooter of several decades, but I'm very close to the point of selling off all my Nikon bodies and staying exclusively with Fujifilm in the future.

    Good video.
    You do understand that the higher ISO performance is more software (firmware) related and not hardware cause you don't change the sensor like with film.
    The firmware/ISO amplification and noise suppression of the XT-2 was already superb.
    However I would always do de-noise and add sharpness in a 3th party software application under Photoshop cause that is and was LR's achilles heel.
    I also don't use LR anymore for Fujifilm since I use Capture One (there is even a cheaper Fujifilm related version, maybe a nice video opportunity for you to test that out )
    Okay thanks for sharing, nice holidays, keep up the good work also in 2019 !!

    New subscriber here! Like your videos, I do feel you missed mentioning more negative stuff about this camera besides battery life. The grip is not that great, no flip-out screen, there is no IBIS and this is quiet a problem since most of their nice lenses have no OIS, seen your footage using the 16-55 you can see how bad the shakiness looks. I'm currently on the market for a new camera (my current camera is a Canon 6D) and I do enjoy making videos (which that camera lacks a lot of stuff). I'm still undecided right now between this one and the Sony A7III, too bad Canon screw up so bad with the EOS R, they would have killed it...

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  5 років тому +1

      EduarFilms ibis and flip screen are subjective things. Only youtubers and vloggers complain about not having it. Most photographers including myself don’t really care about it. Sure ibis is nice in all but can’t have it all on a $1499 camera. :p thanks for watching

    I know technology is betting better and better but to really be honest if you're hoping for an APS-C camera to have great low light capabilities with that many megapixels crammed on it's sensor then you better throw it out and get a full frame to avoid any headaches. For now that's just how it is unless one of these camera companies can get in bed with google's computational AI then maybe there's a chance. Other than that and as an APS-C shooter myself this camera is truly a beast. Are there adapters on this body to use with other lenses?

    I really like my brothers X-T3 but nothing beat my Leica cameras, Nothing. Anytime someone tries to convince me that they have the best camera system out there today, maybe using say the lates Canon 5 series, I simply break out my over 30 years Hasselhad 503CW with body matching 50MP Hasselbad digital back which was designed and made specifically for the 500 series, connect either my 50mm or 80mm Hasselbad lens to it and simply watch the expression of disbelief that a camera could possibly take such photos.
    I’m a big believer in simple is better and Lieca cannot be beat in this regard. Not to mention that the photos I take with my Lieca CL (55-135mm Vario lens, 18mm, 23mm, 35mm Prime Lens) and brand new Lieca D-Lux 7 (24mm-70mm) are simply spectacular. The colors, clean shadows, contrast, simply cannot be beat.
    Those looking for a really good budget cameras should look no further than either the Panasonic LX-100 2 or Panasonic GX9 if you need multiple lens’s. The LX-100 2 should be purchased even if you do have a multi-lens camera system, it’s an amazing camera that everyone should be using everyday, the Lieca D-Lux is the same camera just with a special Lieca Lens.

My question: wouldn't the Fujifilm X-H1 be the best of both worlds when considering cost? It seems to have the touch screen and fun features of the X-T3, sacrificing only a fraction of video and image quality? Looks like you can get an X-H1 for about T2 money...

    Outstanding review! Interested on how it compares to the GH5S for video, which I've hesitated on because the color science and autofocus. Looks like the XT3 checks those boxes, but I'm very concerned about image stabilization. I'm thinking about selling my Canon 1DXII and buying this with the difference. My D is virtually brand new and I can sell it for more than what I bought it for. Happy to see what others think about the XT3, 1DXII, GH5S comparisons for video photo combo. I'll shoot weddings, interviews, outdoor run and gun, and documentaries. File size, cards and lens cost/quality w/constant aperture, image stabilization are also considerations.

    Thanks for this.
    Thumbs UP , twice!
    Bummer the firmware update came out after you had shot this.
    I have kept this idea for a few months and will continue to hold it :
    -> I want a X-H2 !
    Lets hope they improve the grip . My A7III's ergonomics are ..ehrrr.. OK. That and the battery made me go to the Sony, instead. Fuji's grip and battery life are just appalling.. I keep my X-T20, though..as I love the system, and specially my 16mm f1.4.
    Keep them videos coming!
    Your videos are among my top 5 fav .. in UA-cam photography channels .
    PS: have you been using the 80mm macro for portrait? Did you get one..or was it just for the review. I'm still debating between that and the 90mm f2.

    The Fuji 56mm is NOT one of the slowest focusing lens, it used to be, but firmwares sent that thought to the past!! Come on Zed!

    Great video. Question for you. On Sony cameras when I import via Photos (MAC) it doesn’t do the video files. Idk perhaps they are in a separate folder. Do you know if the Fuji system keeps the video files in the same folder as the images?

    When you were comparing the xt2 and xt3 images side by side, I noticed that the noise on later is a bit grainer than xt2. Is it because the higher megapixel count of xt3? As we now that high iso images do better on lower megapixel senors. Is it a matter of concern? Your opinions please..

    I wouldn't be surprised if Fuji approach you to become an "X-Videographer", assuming they want that to compliment their X-Photographer scheme. :)

    I have yet to see definitive proof that BSI sensors out perform standard CMOS sensors. On paper, it makes sense. In the real world, however, I see nothing to fill these promised claims by the manufacturers. The gang at DPReview that still believe there is a full stop difference in performance between the A73 and EOS R but their own sample photos don't support that statement at all. LOL
    Great video as always.

    Hey Lee,
    Great review. The low light performance of the X-T3 is it better than Sony A7 ii? I couldn’t find a Sony A7 ii review from you. Cause I’m either buying the X-T3 or A7 ii. Thanks!

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  5 років тому

      budjuh go with xt3 or save up extra cash and get an a7iii. You will not have as great of experience with the a7ii. (Slow autofocus, single card slot, poor battery life, no 4K video etc)

    Which camera would you prefer for video, the xt3 or the Sony a7iii. Which one is the best camera over all between the two, in your personal opinion.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  5 років тому +2

      james cook I bought the a7iii before this came out but I’m still happy I did. Xt3 obviously has higher bit rate options but Sony’s lenses are quieter and smoother for autofocus in video. So it depends on if you need reliable autofocus or just higher but rates with slightly more room to grade in post.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  5 років тому +3

      SuperDigitalMe I wouldn’t. If you enjoy shooting with Sony. At least with Sony you will always have the best performance over any other brand due to the fact they have great R&D as well the fact they make the sensors. I bought the a7iii earlier this year and it’s been my fave camera to shoot with in 2018. I’m excited to see what the a7siii brings!

      SuperDigitalMe very crazy, i still shoot with the a7rii however i now own the entire batis and loxia line of lenses and trust me, it’s gonna take a couple years for any other system to catch up to the level of image quality i get with my body/lens combos

    • @ryanb8736

      As much as I’m not a Sony fan, but have had Sony, Fuji, and now Canon. Fuji is a great system, but image quality is not as good as full frame. Sony full frame sensors are in another league. Just not as fun as Fuji to shoot with.
