So the drummer left on a measly wage of £70 a week when he could have been earning £2,000. And McCartney robbed the guitarist only because he claimed the right to be human and live his life outside of Wings. He robbed and kicked him out of the group under a fictitious pretext, spreading the myth that the guitarist turned out to be unprofessional and could not play the solo, which Paul played with ease. From Denny Laine, McCartney, with meanness and deceit, bought the copyrights to the Wings' joint songs, including the most commercially successful song in the UK, Mull Of Kintyre 1977. And during the Beatles period, McCartney plagiarized songs: Hey Jude, Yesterday, Blackbird. Later he passed off Lennon’s Yellow Submarine, In My Life and the joint Michelle, Eleanor Rigby, She’s Leaving Home, With A Little Help From My Friends as his own songs. This is insane… riding to and from Twin Peaks Junior High in Poway California in 1974… KCBQ AM with Wolf-man Jack and the bus would roar to this song. I miss those days!
The beginning part of the song has a sense of longing and dismay to it. The next part sort of has a sense of tension and urgency. Then the entire second half of the song has a feeling of release and freedom to it.
i think it’s written like that to convey the feelings of escaping prison which is why its called band on the run 1. getting locked up 2. breaking out 3. being free
I was 7 or 8 when I first heard this song but because of my aunt dying mysteriously before Xmas eve at the hospital, I think it had a sad sound to me. My mother was traumatized until the day she died. A live band played this song today inside a veterans event and I couldn’t take it. My mom died 6 months ago, so it’s a bitter sweet memory of being still young and innocent while growing up in a rural town when this song was popular during spring or summer of 1974.
I can't possibly count all the lyric videos that I've seen. But this one is truly exceptional. I love how they made people and animals out of the lyrics. Beautiful.

2019’s best TV moment? It was Stephen Colbert answering Anderson Cooper’s question about grief. Colbert related to that; in the summer weeks just before his father and brothers died, he recalled that the Paul McCartney and Wings song “Band on the Run” had been a big radio hit - to this day, he said, “Do not play ‘Band on the Run’ around me, you know? . . . Yes. You become a different person. . . . You kind of re-form yourself in this quiet, grieving world. . . . It became a very quiet house and very dark. And ordinary concerns of childhood suddenly kind of disappeared. . . . I had certainly a different point of view than the children around me.” The Washington Post article by Hank Stutter and video can be found her on UA-cam 🇺🇸
