The Suicide Squad Movie Description:
The government sends the most dangerous supervillains in the world -- Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Harley Quinn and others -- to the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Armed with high-tech weapons, they trek through the dangerous jungle on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Col. Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave.
The Suicide Squad is a 2021 American superhero film based on DC Comics featuring the team Suicide Squad. Produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) and the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It was written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi. In the film, a task force of convicts are sent to destroy evidence of the giant alien Starro.
David Ayer was set to return as director for a Suicide Squad sequel by March 2016, but in December he chose to develop a Gotham City Sirens film instead. Warner Bros. considered several replacement directors before hiring Gavin O'Connor in September 2017. He left by October 2018, and Gunn was hired to write and direct the film after being temporarily fired by Disney and Marvel Studios as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). He drew inspiration from war films and John Ostrander's 1980s Suicide Squad comics, and decided to explore new characters in a story separate from the first film's narrative, though some cast members do return from Suicide Squad. Filming began in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2019, and concluded in Panama in February 2020.
The Suicide Squad was theatrically released in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2021, and in the United States on August 5, while streaming on HBO Max for a month starting the same day. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised Gunn's direction, action sequences, performances, visual style, and the writing, with many finding it to be a significant improvement over its predecessor. Peacemaker, a spin-off television series with Cena starring, is set to debut on HBO Max in January 2022.

So, more seriously heh, this is straight up James Gunn being let off the chain and to indulge some of his crazier ideas. Wiping out a bunch of "big stars" off the bat is right up his alley, along with the violence and absurdity (especially Polka Dot Man's mom). I'm not a real fan of gore porn, but Gunn knows how to use it well.
I think I read somewhere that John Cena originally planned to play Peacemaker as a "drill sergeant" sort of character, but Gunn had him switch it up to a douchebag bro version of Captain America (and omg did that work lol).
I liked Will Smith better. Best meme with him as Deadshot; You either die a hero, or you live long enough to become uncle Phil.

@Boss Animz Dude, Zack Snyder is an executive producer to this movie and James Gunn wrote Dawn of the Dead, they're pretty good friends actually. It's not that he didn't want to work with him, the Justice League just didn't fit in this movie

The Thinker was a super intelligent Flash villain and so those things on his head helped him think as fast as the Flash could run.

I feel like part of the reason production companies are doing r-rated superhero movies more now because they saw how greatly received deadpool was.
They also saw how well Joker did too and that was practically an art house film versus a comic book movie.

absolutely lost it at that scene, loved Harley Quinn so much in this movie.
The whole "rats are the lowierst and most despised. if they have purpose so we can" Is actually a good summary of the entire movie, with James Gunn using extremely obscure characters and turning them into icons like nothing (same thing he did with the guardians of the galaxy)
Man I just wanted to give King Shark a big hug during that scene of him crying in the car while everyone partied at the bar.
The bird in the beginning kinda got its revenge... lol

The whole movie was so much fun! James Gunn really knows how to make a good movie. Glad he'll be back for Guardians of the Galaxy 3!
He understands that certain concepts can't be done seriously and its foolish to try. Also the concept of crimnals and psychopaths as your protangonists really allows for unique character styles.
And he's really good at giving a character depth to so many characters with the limited duration, he don't need a mega super ultimate edition with 4 hours duration

It’s not just Cena’s general performance in this film - it’s what he represents, as well, that hits Americans, especially, where it hurts. We can’t even trust our own government not to hide things from us. (This isn’t a comment that’s inviting political trouble across party lines, just what I thought during my first viewing of the film.).
I feel like Peacemaker in this film is a good example of how to make political points in a film without being insufferable about it. Showing that he's actually got a rationale and some guilt about it goes a long way to grounding what he represents in truth rather than being a lazy caricature. Being something of a dogmatic patriot myself, i really respect the criticism this film poses whereas other films trying to make the same point tend to piss me off. Politics in movies can be done right, you just gotta flesh it out and remember to respect every character's integrity.
Honestly wasn’t expecting Rat Catcher 2 to be my favorite character only behind King Shark really. Also I did really like Harley, Bloodsport, and PeaceMaker but those two stole the movie for me.
I’ve watched this movie three times. Twice on my HBO and then I went to the theatre’s to show my support, plus seeing it in theaters is just a whole different beast.
My favorite line is when Flagg is talking about the Weasel he says he is harmless except for the 27 kids he killed. But we think we have that under control.

Nobody recognized my boy Nathan Fillion... If you're interested in how Javelin's actor made his breakthrough, look up the 10+ year classic Flula in Germany.
When they showed Nathan Fillion in the trailers, I was excited. I feel like they did a bait and switch on us though, since they killed off some of the characters in the trailer that would have been interesting to see more of. TDK needed a bigger role, even if he is completely useless.

Just watched this with my mom today and we both loved it. She normally doesn’t like really graphic stuff but she was a trooper! James Gunn is one of my favorite directors.
The Thinker is a Flash Villain. He shows up in the 5th season of the Flash where he frames the hero for a crime he didn't commit
Gonna watch this in theaters tomorrow. So, *this* one, I gotta hold off.

@@HelloMellowXVI WHAT!? you're starting on LOTR with The Hobbit? holy hell, i am ALL for that! sadly the Hobbit trilogy isnt as good as LOTR, but i think that will make it all the more special once you're there, as you'll be super familiar with Middle Earth, it's lore and it's characters.
Cena really surprised me here, not just in his ability to deliver the comedy well, but he really sold the dramatic beats at the end of his arc. The whole "I don't care how many men, women, and children I have to kill" is played as a joke but it also develops the character and, of course, comes into play at the end. You can tell he really doesn't want to kill Flag but feels it is his duty, and you can see the sadness in his eyes when he watches Flag die.
The movie has a lot of silliness but every important character has an arc and there are so many organically written set-ups with great payoffs that don't feel like they are obviously setting something up.
This movie was perfect. Highly entertaining from the beginning to the end. Loved it

I saw it on imax the day it was released, I hadn't been to the movies since the pandemic started and it was totally worth it, I loved the movie from the beginning, I laughed too much and cried on the scene with ratcatcher and his father talking about how we have a purpose, simply EPIC!

This movie was an amazing example of what happens when a super-character film, and James Gunn, aren't held back by anything less than a R raring.
Watch the animated Suicide Squad movies. Batman Arkham Assault on Arkham and Suicide Squad Hell to Pay are two great animated DC movies.

I love it how all the side characters die in the first 5-10 minutes of the movie XD It's tradition. Kinda bummed they killed off Boomer and Flagg though.

I loved most that in this film there was the character development that the 1st film lacked. Everybody kind of grew as characters here, which helped viewers better connect with the characters, they also subverted many tropes. For example Peacemaker came off like a psychopathic murderer but he was more akin to simply an peace loving idiot, trying to protect what he held dear. Even appearing slightly remorseful to kill Flag, a fellow teammate and soldier, who ultimately wanted the same thing. Bloodshot didn't care for anything, but became a somewhat nurturing and reliable leader. He also took on Ratcatcher as a surrogate daughter, and petted a rat. Polka Dot Man, who wanted to die, overcame his weakness and found happiness & value in himself, albeit briefly. You realize King Shark, who is a man eating shark...man, is the least morally evil. King Shark is just lonely, his acts are not "bad", they are natural, he is a shark. His only real "crime" is that he was A. Born and B. Did not die
I feel robbed that we didn’t get a scene of King Shark wearing I gigantic fake bushy mustache, that’s definitely something we need in a Suicide squad 3.
The original Suicide Squad gave off pretty powerful "we wanted to make our own Guardians of the Galaxy" vibes, and it turns out all they had to was hire the same director.
Also, I think having different characters really works with this concept. They pick different teams for different missions, and if you ever wonder "what happened to that character from before?" the answer is likely to be "got killed."

We had Shaun Gunn at our local convention last year in March and this year, last June, we had Michael Rooker as a guest. Shaun Gunn is a Reaver in Guardians of the Galaxy and he was the motion capture double for Rocket Raccoon and the Weasel. So we've ended up with actors from both Guardians and Suicide Squad at our little convention, Tupelo Con, in Tupelo, MS. :)

Will Smith and Idris Elba play different characters. They didn't recast Will Smith, so I don't feel like they replaced him. Will Smith can act, but I'm more of a fan of Elba. Guy's a beast.
Gunn chose to film in georgia to be closer to his dying father, PDM's mom is played by a woman who lives nearby that was also in DCs Doom Patrol which was also filmed in that area
Mel..Idris Elba plays bloodsport who is a Superman villain while will smith played Deadshot who is a Batman villain so while a lot of people still think idris is playing will smith’s character from the first movie he is not he’s playing a different character with some similarities to will smith’s character from the first movie but even those similarities are very different in their own right.
