It got me on my was. I went through other side than you did with a piece of round bar with a 1" bend on it. You can get the slide much more easily with a turn of the bar. Workd on a 2014 Sorento that we have struggled with a few hours trying to open
You could have just reached up through the opening in the skid plate and gently pulled the cable to pop the hood. Literally takes about 30 seconds to do.
Found if you remove the skid plate and the driver side wheel/well cover, you can reach up and pull the cable and/or latch mechanism. The two cable also connect just above the driverside lamp assembly. Thanks for the video
