The reveal for that SATA port on the dock was unreal. Valve seriously should be taking notes because that's actually 500IQ.

That annoyed me so much lol.

....W H Y ? !
In a way that was a good quick and dirty evaluation of the screen protector. I'll give it a pass.
the engineering that went into the dock alone is impressive. I will keep their devices on my radar.
nah,its chinese product, its not good
@@edogawakonan8930 It's great! I love it! One of those anti-China trolls, eh?
@@edogawakonan8930 Some of them aren't bad. For example, the Powkiddy devices are generally good. If you put a community firmware on them, they get much better performance. The V90 handles all handhelds GBA and older perfectly, and just about anything at or before 4th generation for under $50. The only real complaint I have is the plastic sucks. I'd rather pay an extra $10. Their more premium handhelds have better build quality and performance.
Even with the device in this video, the weakest part is probably the joycon sticks, but that's not a huge problem because they are very cheap and easy to replace. The whole housing can be replaced and only require a single ribbon cable. They go for under $5 on average if you're willing to wait on shipping.
But they software is disappointing. They are far behind with releasing kernel sources and unlocking fastboot. This device was also supposed to be developer friendly and it wasn't.
@@heasterian2508 what do you mean? It actually is developer friendly?
You need to turn on high performance mode. It overclocks it. Then you can turn the fan on. They have their own custom launcher also. Make sure you run the update as well, as they do OTA and have done 2 since I have had it.
A few things Anthony didn't talk about/correcting Anthony:
- Yes, that's a fan. You can change the fan settings in the notification tray.
- You can overclock in the notification tray as well.
- This device is strong enough to play GameCube, Wii, and PS2 emulators. (And very small bit of Nintendo Switch, ex Sonic Mania at 60fps)
- You can map touch controls for android games that do not work with controls ex Genshin Impact.
(Any one else with high knowledge use this comment as a thread to add more information for people)
You can even run Windows with GPU-Acceleration on it
Probably a dumb question but what about streaming xbox game pass games?
@@sushifish3047 Yeah you can do that as well

@yes don't worry, I will spread the Lord's word to others
You can run windows 10 on it, run Box86, and play modern games. This video is a god damn sham.
Are the ports really such a big deal?
I mean everyone who is into retro emulation probably already has a dongle and/or a third party controller.
@@goodasdead4303 Windows 11 ARM and its built-in x86 emulation is better.
@@goodasdead4303 At this point just spin a Linux distro on it, running Windows on this will make it anemic
That combo makes the experience so amazing for something at such a low price. Though not as great performance wise as the stem deck, the entire system works so well. This is probably the best budget retro gaming console set ever.
That is surprisingly extremely well and fairly priced, especially the dock
Quick note on the button colors: they're copied from the SNES layout. The whole console kinda looks like a switch fused with an SNES controller.
I really like the controller ports on the dock! In general the dock super cool. Quite like the detail of having the screen still accessible docked, unlike the switch.
European SNES that is. Or Super Famicom. NTSC SNES had two shades of purple.
The button layout and colours actually resemble the ones of the New Nintendo 3DS/3DSXL as well.
Even closer to the new 3ds xl as they did use colored lettering on the buttons.
@@qlum I mean the new 3ds xl's button lettering is an homage to the SNES controller buttons

Ok, that dock is SICK. They even went with SATA for good performance at a nice price.
What would the alternative be? P-ATA? Sata is the only option to make sense ...
@@der-andyman This device technically could support PCIe over NVMe, sure that's faster, but also a little more costly.

I read this as he screamed OMEGA DOCK
It’s really cool of you guys to spotlight the Odin, I’ve been waiting for you to check it out!

@@512TheWolf512 totally agree, same
I have one, and I love it, but despite me absolutely babying my handhelds, it already has 3 dead pixels. I’m honestly pretty pissed about it.
"IT'S RETRO TIME!" is the only intro sequence we need for this channel.
And yet, we didn't get to see anything retro being played on the device. If this is what "retro time" is like, I don't want it.
Every time I see an overview of this thing I'm blown away. I just always forget something that it has cause it has SO MANY FEATURES. I love this thing so much
Please do a full LTT video. This thing deserves so much attention.
The reason there's two HDMI outputs on the dock is that the Lite model doesn't support video output over USB C. There's a mini HDMI port next to the microSD card slot under the cover at the top of the device, and you use a jumper cable to go from the Odin's mini HDMI output to the micro HDMI input at the top of the dock.
If you're serious about using the Odin docked, I would at least get the Base model to avoid having to use the HDMI jumper. Mini HDMI and micro HDMI ports are not very durable, so if you're using the Lite model docked be very careful when you're unplugging/plugging in the cable.
Had a few cameras with micro HDMI. Can confirm the port sucks ass.
6:51 Anthony you absolute HUNK, the button colors are a reference to the Super Famicom controller! They're perfect like they are, and so are you!
probably because the NA Super Famicon didnt have these colors like the European version 🤷♂️
I've seen the Odin from a lot of youtubers but this is the first time I've seen the dock covered and wow! Its actually amazing!
A few points you missed that are touched on in WULFF DEN's review.
1. The Console features a few different Performance modes including a High Performance which will Over Clock the Console and really push the fan (Yes that is a fan for active cooling)
2. The Odin has a GUI built for it that you can enable which looks quite practical and very clean
3. The sticks use magnetic positioning to register their movement which does not lend its self to drift issues since it isn't based on contact/rubbing the way the switch is.
4. They are pushing OTA updates pretty frequently (I believe they have had 2 or 3 since launch.)
I love you guys over at LTT and especially Anthony but I do feel like they should have been more thorough with this review. Not sure if there were limits put on them as far as what they could or couldn't do in regards to opening the console but I think that something like this really does deserve a deeper dive in the future and you should have gone ahead and popped it open, as well as spent a bit more time digging through the settings to understand exactly what you are looking at. No hate, just some constructive critique for the future.
They don't have hall sticks, it's one of the most common upgrades, the odin 2 does but not the odin/pro
Ok, the dock is actually cooler than the device, honestly.
it has a freaking sata connection
Yeah, I have android emulators and controls with Kishi already, but I don't have a dock like that.
I wonder if it's exclusive to this handheld or if I could use it with other devices
7:19 They didn't "just keep the colors" for Xbox because they're literally using the Nintendo colors from the Super Famicom, along with the Nintendo placement from the Super Famicom. Almost like it will be emulating Super Famicom games, with color-coded buttons, and they wanted them to match.

If I wanted a device like this, this one looks like a VERY viable option! I'm genuinely impressed at that audio quality and the dock seems to me to be a really clever extra at an actually pretty reasonable price.

Even Android 9 can run almost all apps. Android apps are much more forgiving on old OS versions.

Minecraft: *Java Edition* is the horribly unoptimized version, Minecraft: Bedrock (all current console, mobile, and Win10 Edition/Win10 Store) are compiled from the same codebase, -C#- C++ and run _way_ better. So still, you are actually not pushing it to the max, due to how beautifully optimized the mobile edition is.

I think the Steam Deck docking station is made with some form of portability in mind in case you don't have another powered USB-C hub. It would be much easier to have a SATA to USB enclosure that costs $10 (and that doesn't need screws, is easier to replace and can be used with all compatible devices) than to travel with that kind of full featured dedicated dock of that shape.
Please don't get me wrong, I still think it's a cool dock but it's probably not intended for carry.
I wonder if a third part would develop a Steam Deck dock that has a SATA enclosure built in.

I was lucky enough to get in when they had the $199 Base Superfan Deal. It’s really great at that price. Had it since February.
Fact check time! Button layout, lettering and colours are far from cursed - they’re ripped directly from the Japanese/European SNES controller.
7:00 The colours of the ABYX buttons are based off the EU SNES controller and the "New 3DS". Still a bit odd though
They're likely going with Nintendo colors due to the GC ports on the back, similar to how the analog triggers have that little area at the very end where you have to press harder, like the GC controller.
It's not too odd, everyone who bought this device are going to use it for emulation anyways and we all know it's mostly Nintendo games that people are likely to emulate which this layout is perfect for.
Facts: The ABXY buttons's colors are from the Super Famicom controller! The locations are also on that same controller, but they're also used on the Wii (Classic Controller), Wii U and Switch This means that it's more like the Nintendo trademark location.

The AYN Odin is honestly the best handheld for most people tbh, it’s able to play all of the great android games (although there is not that much), and more importantly, can play emulators very well like wii and ps2. It’s also small enough to fit in a (big?) pocket
I have an SD855 based Samsung phone and it doesn't handle PS2 via AtherSX all that well honestly so yeah I perosnally wouldn't be running PS2 on the Odin any time soon. Cons of the dock: system can overheat when docked, as the rear fan gets completely cut off. @@th3oryO I'm probably just going to break into it and gut it, put it into my own 3D printed case (with a fan), and see if I cant put all the ports on the front, and USBs on the side.
when you popped the back off that my jaw dropped because what I saw is what all docks honestly need I know the steam deck has large drives on the ready and SD card slots but I will always gladly add an additional spinning disk or SATA SSD to a system if that part of it isn't for portability, will they release a version that's strictly the dock and is there a way to install Linux on it so you can make it just an all-around PC?
it's a snapdragon 845 soc, meaning it's just a normal phone processor based on arm (though still a really capable one)
you could theoretically get linux on this thing if you want, but it'd be a stripped down arm based OS, not all that helpful
It can run windows but it drops performance running windows
@@julianputnam8290 no it cannot
@@raeedibnzaman1 yes it can run windows
The Snapdragon 845 has very good Linux mainline support (wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Snapdragon_845_(SDM845)). It should be possible to port it, even though that's probably still a lot of work.
To add to the amazing dock, you can run windows for arm on this device
The button layout was why I went with a GDP XP for android gaming handheld
So I came into this thinking "Oh look another kickstarter handheld thats going to cost $1k+ or something like that". Imagine my surprise when Anthony said the PRO model is ONLY $287 and the base is $67. This is one handheld I MIGHT actually buy.
it's also android crap
@@petervansan1054 Android is crap? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@petervansan1054
So what else is it suppose to run on an ARM platform? Windows Mobile? Imao
@@petervansan1054 you're waiting for Apple to make such a device at such a price?

It's because the Super Famicom and PAL SNES had those specific colors on those specific placements!
The button placement and color scheme is from the Super Famicom. It is also resembled on the "new" line if 3ds
Compact PC with a control imbued vs Android smartphone with a control imbued
I was about to buy a Steamdeck despite the fact I love the older stuff better.....and then Anthony shows me this beauty!! Add in a perfect dock and it's already being ordered by me before this video even ended 😁
wasting your money honestly. the Deck can emulate too. really well actually
@@DisturbedPineapple I'm sure it can....but this, especially that amazing dock, is all I'll ever need 👍
@@DisturbedPineapple but does it have a dock?????👀👁👅👁
@@kreamkid275 ...yes...3rd party currently with official coming.
@@dragon2knight this literally does exactly what any halfway decent phone can do. Just buy a dock online and save the money. Honestly if the dock is what you're into then why even bother with portable?
One extra thing I found is that it's capable of game streaming so you can also play real AAA titles like Witcher cyberpunk horizon you get the point. The dock is freaking SICK would definitely but in replacement of having multiple consoles.

Anthony, there is an FPS overlay you can enable in the Android admin panel. Also, Steam Link is amazing... I wish you demoed it on this beast!
