Yeah for all intents and purposes those wheels sound gimmicky as hell. I’m currently riding the Dragons again after 99A Spits and they slide like a dream on asphalt and they ride smooth. NHS have a lot of gimmicky stuff.
i mean yeah they push krux trucks...id say the same about crailtap with ROYAL trucks...but as time has TOLD....after near 20 years....and multiple geometries/pivot cup etc hanger designs....apparently both "BRANDS" sell a "skateable" truck as of 2023....JFC
@@andresarregui3417 you tripping fool, Dragons best street wheel that slide great and is decent in park too, EVERYONE WHO HAVE SKATED THEM KNOWS THAT FACT YOU NHS PUSHING IDIOT LOL!!!!
The Dragon wheels are sticky and bouncy. They are not a 'hybrid' wheel at all. I'd get a 95A Mini Logo over Dragon wheels. Better deal, better performance overall. Dragon formula only makes sense on really gritty rough streets and even then you can mostly forget about slides really.
@@jimmyhuang8730 all for you. You the type of guy that give reason to all this gimmicks; you buy things that doesnt make any real (as in pure physics) sense. What is soft can´t slide and what is hard can´t feel soft. They dont work, but ey, you probably dont skate so who cares, lets go with whatever hype they sell to me. Dont tell me, you also pop your shields, right?. (have just see the video in your channel and no wonder, you also believe in Zodiac! now everything makes more sense!)
I feel like if the want to make a double durometer they should just make the inside alot softer like I skate 95a wheels on one of my boards and Rocky concrete, cracks and pebbles are still noticeable so I would say maybe like a inside duro of like 80 something would make them a lot better
Thanks for the review, I almost got these but went with dragons instead. As far the customer service you received, I hope they see your well put review!
I haven’t tried these yet but I have the OJ Nomads basically what they used for the inner core and it’s been a comfortable ride really grippy but slides when I want it too
Hey Pal. Love the channel. We've had these wheels before in the past. I'm pretty sure the dual hardness first dropped in 1989 or 90. They always fail to sell
They failed because they're trying to reinvent the wheel. To be honest you could get an old-school pair of Kryptonics and do most of the same things you can do now and they were certainly better on rough Terrain they don't hardly make a rough terrain wheel anymore
mini logo wheels are hard to beat for quality/price. bones/skate-one customer service is excellent. my experience with oj wheels has been mixed, but generally adequate. the biggest complaint with modern oj wheels is the tendency to chunk out similar to bones stf, and they seem to cone out pretty fast. i don't like loud barking wheels.
Your rough surface was silky smooth compared to where I live! My biggest question on these is about bam bams bestie, how do they handle pebbles? I can imagine the soft centre helps them to grab small stones and send you flying!
You’re sliding out because of your form and weight distribution. The harder wheels make bad form more apparent because your weight isn’t fully over all 4 wheels. I’m skating the OJs elite 101a combos currently and noticed I don’t get away with as many of the sketchier roll aways i used to. But it’s improved my form overall while riding park and I feel more stylish now.
Cool review G. I still love O.J.s but the tolerance is more to blend with the 95a to be experimented on since the Nomads are proper for the streets. Im glad you got Bones X form to recover through your trip! Those look like my next go-to wheel since the v5 shape is just perfect.
The wider the better for everything except weight. Wider is faster because there is less compression where the wheel meets the ground so wider actually acts like a harder wheel for speed. Plus more ground contact actually improves both grip and slide because it make them both more predictable.
@@mr.jamster8414 i never owned spitfires, the classics seemed too skinny for my tastes, especially under 56mm. i'd prob like the radials/radial fulls, i like wheels wide enough to protect the axle nuts
@@diplenski I meant the Classic Formula, like the Bigheads, and not F4. If I were gonna buy another spitfire wheel, they'd probably be the radial fulls in 97a. 99a F4 (lock-ins) don't grip enough. I was doing 7-8 feet powerslides on them and I wasn't even pushing fast, because I'd feel I'd slip backwards doing that. 99a X-Formula have a very similar feel and are almost as slick as F4's, but a fair bit easier to control at the same time...? Yea, I'd say the radial fulls in 97a would be a safe bet if you were going spitfire. (Or Conical Fulls too IG) Have you tried Mini-Cubics, like on a shaped board, before? Very nice level of Grippy-ness. Easy to break into power-slides but hard to slip out on them.
They don't have flat spotting under warranty that's crazy one of my dragons wheels stretched out in the core 5 months after use and I wasn't even looking for a warranty claim just asking skate one why my bearing was falling out my wheel and they ended sending me free set without even buying it from them I got the wheels at my local zumiez lmao I wouldn't expect them to always give good experience like me but the customer service was definitely a lot better
nah man when you go to that shop you gotta hit the bargain bin deals...15$ conical full ghettoschild and satori 101a conical fulls for 15$....XD 6 ball rush bearings 10$. Id never have a solid quiver w.o those deals. I usually buy my decks/trucks at my local which is like the best shop there is...socal skateshop. But when i need quiver gear like wheels/bearings....zumiez has the bargains and terrible management buying up their overhead...which NEVER gets MOVED XD. If you gon buy nice "things" like bones wheels F4 spitfires swiss bones etc hollow trucks XD kinda stuff...best get it from your local to generate some income for the core/shops...otherwise ill move some product through zumiez if i know theyre selling it at a loss.
Definitely skeptical of things like this. Wheels with cores are not a new thing, either… the price is definitely prohibitive for me to buy them. Everyone has a dud… the Indy inverted kingpin isn’t too great, from my experience.
thanks, I was srsly considering to try these wheels, but obviously I won't bother now. instead I got another pair of dragons, good decision. the dragons actually hold up. for skateparks I use F4, but so far there really is not a wheel that I want to ride everywhere. Dragons are awesome for everything that is not smooth skatepark, and they are still pretty good there. Andy Anderson currently has a new wheel in the making, 97A nano cubic, basically a harder dragon formula shaped like a freestyle wheel. kinda stoked, when they come out, I will probably try them and I am definetely hyped for your review already ^^
Not to discount anything you said about the wheels, but that indoor park is the most slippery place I’ve ever skated. I rock spitfire 97a there and it’s prefect.
Daaang, i was looking forward to OJs version of the Dragons, but sounds like they dropped the ball. I knew that 101a outer was gna be a bad idea. Guess i'm gettin Dragons 😏
@@zukitori5442 DANG, y'all not making it easy! I keep hearing gimmick being thrown around, but the Dragon reviews seem legit. I'm old, i'm fat, i like to cruise, but i also like to slide, so i think they might be ok? As long as they're not BAD, they're prolly worth the $45. OJ TRIPPIN for $58 tho.
@@skait174 trust me man, they’re definitely worth the $45-50. They’re definitely not a gimmick. Those who say that definitely don’t rip enough to know what they’re talking about. Them things are legit and are pioneering the industry currently. Especially on pavement them thangs don’t disappoint!
I think any OJ double durometer that is 95A on the inside, is actually not soft enough to really deliver on the promise. I do think any smooth surface skatepark will not handle 100a / 101a wheels very good actually. It's kinda of why the standard 99a exists. Maybe OJ Double durometer 99a/85a would be a better combo. The other thing is how wheel size _matters_ quite a lot on rougher grounds too. I think my 97A Seismic freestyle wheels that are like 55mm or so, are best for rougher grounds. Even compared to Bones Rough Riders 56mm. Those are kind of too soft for tricks IMHO.
97A is a great middle ground, Having ridden dragons all the way to 104A I have to say that in street 97A is up there. Some skateparks handle harder wheels better than others which is a bit annoying. I want to try the Decomposed dual duro for freestyle
@@aj1604 I agree. I think either 95a or 97a is the best durometer for streets that are kinda rough, but also still very capable of performing in a nice skatepark environment. I don't think I need double duro wheels, but I do have 98a Never Enough freestyle wheels on one board. And they are quite amazing. I'd figure those should perform similarly to the Decomposed wheels in most ways. One of my freestyle decks has Leeches wheels, I believe 93a. Also amazing, and still slide.
I think OJ as a company is good and I love their team, however, the only wheel I ever had issues with was the Elite 101A, not only did they flatspot on me but they were very slippery. So much so that I slipped out on a bank and broke my ankle badly, will never skate the 101 formula again.
@@AgusGonzalez1998 Weird, I've had 101a OJ wheels (Insaneathane, Classics, not Elite yet) And they were slick but not too slick. 99a Spitfire wheels, my set, are like skating on ICE to me! You can't even power-slide them at full speed, because you slip out!
but the thing is you got a 101a/95a duro wheel while oj has a much softer wheel, a 99/95a duro wheel which can perform way better then a 101a/95a wheel, so its wrong to say don't get those wheels and also wrong to assume both are terrible while you haven't tried the softer wheels.
I think you're being a little dramatic. 101 is always going yo be slippery in a Dusty indoor park. They were $60 and you can't take your mom out to dinner for $60. I agree they kinda feel like a 97a but 97a isn't going to slide like the double durometer. Great wheel
SPITFIRE - 90D are the same and pretty fast for bowls/parks, sound normal, but grippy but unlike the Dragons they suck at sliding. Dragons LAST just the best value at the mo
So you say the wheel skate feel like a 97, so I don’t really understand why you are saying they don’t work? Do you expect them to skate like a 95 or 90? a 101 that feels less chattery is a win in my book. I think you’re being dramatic.
They don't work because OJ claims the wheels combine the benefits of a soft and hard wheel, but they don't perform as advertised. Explained at 12:57 I would've been more forgiving to these wheels if they were marketed differently as explained in the next chapter. I don't believe I'm being dramatic by holding the product to the expectations it claims.
only actual realworld/skate application this wheel struck me as....was a DITCH rig....cutty/choppy ditch spots bank 2 ledge spots...where you want 101a to generate all the speed you need bank to bank into that eventual trick...while also having good/harsh grip on legit CRETE(vs that smoothed out skatepark concrete)....and the 101a slide ability for those bank 2 ledge tricks. Otherwise i dislike 100a+ in most of my parks bc theyre typically too slick...same to if im at an indoor skatepark or non concrete surfaces/ramps. I like the "idea" ....but typically i ran cores back in the day for 101-104a inner cores....to ADD speed in the park/flow. With 99a or softer outer duro...for grip. Autobahns were the SHIIIIT back in my era of skating. Thin 50mms for ideal street/park/ledge tech skating. But many of us have grown out of that ERA. Been running SFW99 since the manderson wheel came out...and havent touched F4...bc back in the day Pre F4 blend Spitfire had the FABLED F1 blend...XD or would be "park blend"....also ran those as emburns Duel duro 104a innner 99a F1 outer.....F1=FLATSPOT MACHINES. Worst wheel blend of skate history. But hey at least now everyone makes the CONICAL/FULL shape. Lately im on some ghettochild conical fulls, and satori 101a conical full shapes. Not bad. One day i may try F4 but i swipe up my wheels on deal...and 40$ is something id rather spend/save towards swiss bones or if they ever made reds big balls ceramics. hell id rahter save that 40$ and throw them at something "NEW" like ace AF1 60s since ive never skated aces and ride my friends setups like its my own.
@@jamesryan4325 im definitely down got my eye on the radial full 97a and 99a options for sure. If i like them ill probably try to snag some 97a conical fulls too
Yeah i gotta say companies other than spitfire and bones don't have the tech to make really good wheels... Even the OJ 95a nomads by itself aren't that soft, so putting a hard urethane layer on top is obviously not going to make that soft of a ride feel. That makes me think... Maybe if powell made a wheel that is 93a or even softer on the contact patch area, but 100a on the SIDEWALLS, then it would ride soft, slide well, and still won't stick when doing pinch tricks!
OJ Insane-A-Thane were really nice wheels IMO - do they still sell those? I also have a set that are just labelled "OJ III 101a" - and they're a very similar wheel to Spitfire Bigheads/Classics, but a bit better than those.
gave OJ two separate chances a few years apart, both standard and 101 elite formulas, both absolute garbage. not even up for debate. waste of money and time
I am in Philly area and minus some parks or plazas you pretty much when skating around spot to spot or just cruising are mainly on rough grounds, train tracks, dodging potholes and etc. Been riding the OJ Nora V pro model wheels that are from 2-3 years ago and they still are holding up really well. Minus losing size they don't got flat spots still and no chips. Personally I think the whole hybrid wheels like these or Dragons are not worth it. Rather just get the good regular OJ's.
I suspect these were rushed out in response to Powell's dragon wheels, I thought NHS did something similar with the ricta speedbands way back. Shame they didn't work out as there's a demand for new types of wheel tech.
This wheels set looks defected bcoz defected wheels has chunks out and chips pretty easily. I think if you continue skate them and get bigger chips you will be covered by manufacturing guarantee
The dual durometer wheel is a gimmick from the early 80s and it failed then... I noticed how many failed gimmicks of skateboarding on being rehashed now because it's a new group of fools that are falling for the garbage😂
every company is trying to market and copy the dragons we as skaters know and dont fall for the bs advertising and we know who th ogs are and what works
What is initially a gimmick eventually becomes progress in history. A lot of people don't realize we are seeing a new technological advancement with what Powell, Bones, and other dual duro manufacturers are starting to make and I feel like 10 years from now they'll be the standard for street.
XD as someone whos tried a few different Spitfire CORE blends and "designs" XD bc im that guy that loves trying stuff out just for teh HOOT of it all. F man....spitfire/dlx was really fucking aroudn with those....teh harder outer duro wouldnt last for shit....and the F1 blends flat spot after 1 blunt/nose slide in transition. Ive never felt so cheated by a "core skate brand" that since ive yet to touch F4....and i stan MANDERSON shape 99a SFW wheels. So now i just ride conical full shape anywhere i can get it for 20$ or less. Hell even pig is making conical full...and i grew up in the "you gotta get the flip sidecut" wheel era LMFAO....that ran PIG asymmetrical GUTTERCUTS. Still wish i had some FRESH guttercuts for a quiver setup from time to time NGL
Didn't I tell you to get a set of bones X97 a long time ago when they first came out and review them? OJ is a second rate wheel brand, watse of time and money.
There engineered beyond your comprehension, I’ve skated for 23 years and oj prototype are completely worth the purchase and should be set up with new bearings!! There meant for skaters that can skate well not for beginners like your self
Seriously OJ wheels are trash cruiser and nomads. Putting two piles of poop together just makes it more shit and you’ll have nasty hands. NHS is a corporate skateboard company that doesn’t care about its quality. That shows in all their products including Santa cruise decks
Do a full review and comparison of the Bones X97 to the Spitfire 97A, that you said you have been riding, that would be a video worth it's weight in gold, money 💰 OJ, Santa Cruz NHS wheels are second rate trash not worth the time and money on.
never rode ojs other than 87a keyframes for a cruiser...they got a pretty flooded team too. Just that "appeal" of their team being so sick made me wonder if theyre just riding fresh/product....vs the product well eventually have breaking down/flat spotting etc. Keyframes were "chill" but the ricta clouds are honestly more ideal for "tricks" and actual skating with a softer wheel IMO i was even able to do nose/tail slides with the clouds. Ive never rode F4 Myself just classic 99a spitfire SFW shape....or nothing....on ghettochild and satori conical fulls RN...IDK spending 40$ for some Trendy spitfires when most posers are rocking the F4s these days with their indy/hockey setup thats un scratched and always Bran spankin new...is something i didnt wanna F with. Plus i rode gold goons/hubba/autobahns back in the day, BC my experience with Spitfire Duel duro options were MEH at best...as a benchmark for "what happens" when spitfire tries....to break their own mold of 99a...=trash just like their F1 blend.

I’m gonna go with Dragons.
They are just softer wheels, they dont slide like a hard (101) wheel. Another selling gimmick. You get the same wheel with a normal, around 95a wheel.
Dragons still slide, I have a pair and I really like them. They are not as slick as a 101 but I like the feel of them a lot.
Sounds like an honest review. Thanks for your time and effort.
They always fail to sell
did they fail because of the price then, or were they just shit
They failed because they're trying to reinvent the wheel. To be honest you could get an old-school pair of Kryptonics and do most of the same things you can do now and they were certainly better on rough Terrain they don't hardly make a rough terrain wheel anymore
mini logo wheels are hard to beat for quality/price. bones/skate-one customer service is excellent. my experience with oj wheels has been mixed, but generally adequate. the biggest complaint with modern oj wheels is the tendency to chunk out similar to bones stf, and they seem to cone out pretty fast. i don't like loud barking wheels.
Im gonna try the elite nomads 95a, hope they perform well. Until now i just tried cruiser wheels from OJ like the super juice and the keyframes
You answered that question for me. Thanks
Thanks for the input on those. I just ordered some 54 mm 101a elite hardlines yesterday and I'm wondering how they're going to perform.
@@daffyduckling6958 coming back to this comment I’m about to switch to a softer wheel. Probably back to 99s.
2:31 all the 101a and b wheels ive had made those noises on park cement, on street/macadum you dont get that
3:19 this is also typical for 101a, not so much b though
Cool review G. I still love O.J.s but the tolerance is more to blend with the 95a to be experimented on since the Nomads are proper for the streets. Im glad you got Bones X form to recover through your trip! Those look like my next go-to wheel since the v5 shape is just perfect.
i have some almost 40yo oj2 wheels 60mm 97a, they ride and slide really well even being a wide old school wheel
The wider the better for everything except weight.
Wider is faster because there is less compression where the wheel meets the ground so wider actually acts like a harder wheel for speed.
Plus more ground contact actually improves both grip and slide because it make them both more predictable.
@@jaykay4541 I think the weight makes the wheel roll faster too, so it's better all-around except for really techy shit.
Yea, I learned to slide on OJIII 60mm 101a wheels. They were like Spitfire Classics, but just a tad nicer and more durable.
(Or Conical Fulls too IG)
Have you tried Mini-Cubics, like on a shaped board, before? Very nice level of Grippy-ness. Easy to break into power-slides but hard to slip out on them.
Solid review. Like the reviewbrah reference haha
Still nothing beats f4 97A for me
Thanks for the honest review. I'm always going back to f4 classics even though I hate the color
thanks for the detailed review
the cons you mentioned were definitely deal breakers for me.
appreciate you saving me $60+ 🤙🏼
Are you going to review the bones X Formula?
Ripping off the Powerflex wheels from back in the day. Which were so good
my happy place is 97a radial fulls by spitfire
GREAT VIDEO! THX! Instant fan!
Really good review.
Not to discount anything you said about the wheels, but that indoor park is the most slippery place I’ve ever skated. I rock spitfire 97a there and it’s prefect.
nomads are kinda loud too for a softer wheel. nomads still my favorite durometer
No one covers flat spots dude. You can flat spot literally any wheel. Just ride it out.
Spitfire covers flat spots on F4s. I think Bones covers flat spots as well. I've never flat spotted Spitfire F4s or Bones STFs/X Formula.
@@ThorneBenatar They're guaranteed to happen if you pull off a slide without having your wheels roll, though.
You need more subs for all these product release and reviews
No idea what happened to NHS, but the quality has gone down quite a bit. Bones and Spitfire are far better for your money. The Bones x97's are sick!!!
They are the best wheel out there
Daaang, i was looking forward to OJs version of the Dragons, but sounds like they dropped the ball.
I knew that 101a outer was gna be a bad idea. Guess i'm gettin Dragons 😏
tried Dragons, another gimmick!
@@andresarregui3417dragons r legit bro 😭
@@zukitori5442 DANG, y'all not making it easy!
I keep hearing gimmick being thrown around, but the Dragon reviews seem legit.
I'm old, i'm fat, i like to cruise, but i also like to slide, so i think they might be ok?
As long as they're not BAD, they're prolly worth the $45.
OJ TRIPPIN for $58 tho.
@@andresarregui3417 < this noob mad idiot probably works for OJ NHS LOL!!!!!!!!
They are. The rough riders crumble apart quick once you start popping.
Had a set of OJ’s once. Now I remember why. They do be slipping.
I think OJ as a company is good and I love their team, however, the only wheel I ever had issues with was the Elite 101A, not only did they flatspot on me but they were very slippery.
So much so that I slipped out on a bank and broke my ankle badly, will never skate the 101 formula again.
So what u choose then?
@@acgwestsidesb6410 Spitfire 99a has been working just fine for me, no complaints
Great wheel
Spitfire 97a slides even better than 101a OJ for sure.
Wheres the spitfire 93a review ???
SPITFIRE - 90D are the same and pretty fast for bowls/parks, sound normal, but grippy but unlike the Dragons they suck at sliding.
Dragons LAST just the best value at the mo
I love them. You can definitely tell the difference on rougher shit and they are slow like dragons. Legit atv wheel!
95a ojs are a good wheel but they already feel hard.
Maybe 101 for pure speed on smooth park surfaces but definitely way too hard for me.
Autobahn makes some of the nicest Dual Duro wheels
So you say the wheel skate feel like a 97, so I don’t really understand why you are saying they don’t work? Do you expect them to skate like a 95 or 90? a 101 that feels less chattery is a win in my book. I think you’re being dramatic.
They don't work because OJ claims the wheels combine the benefits of a soft and hard wheel, but they don't perform as advertised. Explained at 12:57
I would've been more forgiving to these wheels if they were marketed differently as explained in the next chapter.
You gotta try F4 man. Or X99. At this point you'll def be able to score some on discount. Wheel formulas have come a looong way
@@jamesryan4325 im definitely down got my eye on the radial full 97a and 99a options for sure. If i like them ill probably try to snag some 97a conical fulls too
Do a video on the 95 nomads ...
The plastic insert on sidewalls was on Ricta Slix why they doesnt make it with Ricta 95a or all Clouds i have no idea
OJ Insane-A-Thane were really nice wheels IMO - do they still sell those?
I also have a set that are just labelled "OJ III 101a" - and they're a very similar wheel to Spitfire Bigheads/Classics, but a bit better than those.
Went from formula 4 spitfire to bones x97 formula and i wont go back.. best wheel out there
gave OJ two separate chances a few years apart, both standard and 101 elite formulas, both absolute garbage. not even up for debate. waste of money and time
Wasn’t happy with my OJs, wore out really fast.
you'd like the spitfire sapphires
I am in Philly area and minus some parks or plazas you pretty much when skating around spot to spot or just cruising are mainly on rough grounds, train tracks, dodging potholes and etc. Been riding the OJ Nora V pro model wheels that are from 2-3 years ago and they still are holding up really well. Minus losing size they don't got flat spots still and no chips. Personally I think the whole hybrid wheels like these or Dragons are not worth it. Rather just get the good regular OJ's.
Dragons are definitely worth it in Philly. Huge difference.
I suspect these were rushed out in response to Powell's dragon wheels, I thought NHS did something similar with the ricta speedbands way back. Shame they didn't work out as there's a demand for new types of wheel tech.
"why would they say something that wasn't true?" 😭😭😭
Thats why spitfire F4 only
Uh duh bones 104 and spitfire 101 only
That indoor park is hard to skate sometimes lol 😂 btw sick your form Oregon let’s go
Man giving the truth not wasting my time with these ones the x97s are awesome
Thanks for saving me like $80 Canadian
This wheels set looks defected bcoz defected wheels has chunks out and chips pretty easily. I think if you continue skate them and get bigger chips you will be covered by manufacturing guarantee
thank you!! you saved me $120 because I was going to buy 8 pcs for my roller skates❤
Those look flat, brother. You need some oldschool bones hard spf wheels.
The dual durometer wheel is a gimmick from the early 80s and it failed then... I noticed how many failed gimmicks of skateboarding on being rehashed now because it's a new group of fools that are falling for the garbage😂
Just get dragons or nano cubics
every company is trying to market and copy the dragons we as skaters know and dont fall for the bs advertising and we know who th ogs are and what works
What is initially a gimmick eventually becomes progress in history. A lot of people don't realize we are seeing a new technological advancement with what Powell, Bones, and other dual duro manufacturers are starting to make and I feel like 10 years from now they'll be the standard for street.
@@yeaboydotdot amen to that one brother
Go for USA made wheels...
Do a full review and comparison of the Bones X97 to the Spitfire 97A, that you said you have been riding, that would be a video worth it's weight in gold, money 💰
OJ, Santa Cruz NHS wheels are second rate trash not worth the time and money on.
never rode ojs other than 87a keyframes for a cruiser...they got a pretty flooded team too.
