Also great work on explaining all the steps with such a clear view on the knots. (you also might be able to find the di or spec at any sailing shop if you don't have a spear shop close by)
Hey, thanks! This is so timely. My band is looking a little crusty and I've been meaning to look into what comes next... I'm looking forward to giving this a shot.
FANTASTIC how to video! Thank you! I've got to figure out the US version of the anchor and bridle lines you mentioned but your instructions are/were SUPER helpful and very appreciated!
Seeing as its your fault Dan for getting me into this sport, makes me all the more excited to start making my own rubbers using your videos. Thanks for posting this! Love your videos, especially the gear videos!
Love the viddies even though I’m not much of an angler nor have I ever been spearfishing. Quick point of order: I don’t think that’s actually a double sheet bend. For a sheet bend you pass the free end through the bight or loop, then pass it once around the night/loop but *under* the standing end. For a double it goes around the bight and under the standing end twice.
Thanks Dan i needed that info. I'm building my own roller gun at the mo. Can i just use one single length of rubber if the attatchment on the underside is smoothe and 25 mm across ish? Like a round stop for ex. ? Cheers. Loving your vids. Very informative and precise👍👍👍
@@DanielMann Thanks, been tuning the trigger parts today and routing look me up on facebook Rory Lowdon if you're on that and instag too. Thanks for replying, sure you get billions of qs😂
Hi Daniel :) Thanks for this good video. A question from myside. What is the rope you are using for tying rubber knot ? What is the thickness? and Specification?
Fantastic how-to, Daniel! I was multi tasking and missed your comment on why you choose the cove hitch over constrictor knot, halfway through my comment I re-watched only to see you addressed my concern. I had noticed cuts in the band from my constrictors and wasn't sure how to prevent that. Love the roll technique, will use on my next set of bands! I've always used a double overhand/barrel knot for bridle insert, rather than a figure eight knot. It's not as slim as a figure eight and I thought it may be at risk of slipping out. Ever had one pull out?
Hi Daniel, best explained video of how to make it out there. Great thanks 👌. Most speros have a stretch factor of 300-320% for sigalsub extreme, you recommend 270% is this enough?
270% is a good starting point for the 19mm extreme bands, they are super tough. You can go towards 300-320% of course but you never want to cut them too short to start with.
@@DanielMann I was wondering as I struggle physically getting the band on the last notch on the speargun. Was thinking it was a 16mm. 19mm band at 270% makes sense.
Hey Man i have really been wanting to order one of those Under pressure guns. Thanks Jacob! Due to capital control in Greece you will have to email Alexis about purchasing a gun. I have just emailed him with what I want, bank transfer and done.
Do you use the same length for bands with a different diameter, on the same gun? If I switch from 16mm to 14mm, should I use bands of different length?
Dear Daniel, in 4:43 you introduce a black dyneema rope, what diamter is it? (or what diamter rope do you suggest using for the close hitch?) i tried doing it with a 2mm dyneema, wasn't as tidy as your hitch. 2. also, is there a dyneema brand that you prefer? Sincerely, Asaf
Hi Asaf, the black cord is just dacron cord or a cheap nylon cord. I use it because it’s cheaper than dyneema. Around 1.5mm is ideal. The best dyneema I have used were the Rob Allen white dyneema and the salvimar pink stuff in this video.
Hi Dan, just made my own band for the first time following this video! Had a quick question, I’ve used 18mm sigalsub like in your video. I’ve definitely got the length right but it feels crazy tight to load? Is it just technique or are 18mm bands naturally hard to pull back?? Thanks in advance and great video!!
Thanks Harry, the 18mm purple sigal sub stuff is pretty gnarly to pull back. These days I prefer the brown/red sigalsub bands with the amber middle. Much easier to load!
Thanks a lot for the video! What kind of blade are you using to taper your bands? What is the grain size? Mine still turn out a little sloppy. Yours look spot on! Greetings from France!

haha, I was just about to change the bands on my speargun and your video pops up. BTW, do you shorten the bands after some use, because 2.7 seems a bit long to me?
Sometimes I will but I’d rather accuracy than power. I use it as a starting point and might tighten the band a bit later on and then write down what rubber and what length I use for each speargun.

Scubastore.com

I do things differently depending on the speargun and setup.

Constructor knot is not necessary. Clove hitch is better as it rolls the knot tight without chaffing the rubber.
