    Been diving and spearfishing for 40 years and made my first DIY band today. Always bought them in the past but now that I’m an old senior citizen, it’s nice to save some bucks. Thanks!

    i don't even own a spear gun, but watched the whole thing haha
    But if i ever own one I'm coming straight back if i need to.
    Also great work on explaining all the steps with such a clear view on the knots. (you also might be able to find the di or spec at any sailing shop if you don't have a spear shop close by)

    Not spear fishing yet but come next summer I am there. I started watching Young Bloods which is great but his videos are made in very warm and clear water and being from New England USA I could not really relate to his setting. Your videos from the UK and such remind me of the area I live in and they inspire me to get out and give it a try, thanks

    Thanks so much! Your videos encouraged me to give the sport a shot, kit myself out on a New Zealand vacation and just go diving without overthinking it (ofc while still taking all safety precautions).
    Loved every moment of it, spent as much time in the water as I could, and shot fish on basically every dive I did (I only took what I needed).
    Wouldn't have been possible without all the amazing videos and your knowledge shared. Thanks for providing this extremely well-made, high quality and still fun-to-listen-to content. You successfully ambassadored the sport ;)

    Daniel..

    I nearly speared my left index finger when I was trying to push one of those fat knots into a Sigalsub extreme rubber, but it did work out pretty good in the end (besides the cut and a blood red tinted spectra wishbone).

    I lost my pneumatic gun last week in the river.
    They turned on the generators earlier than expected.
    I kinda panicked and thought I needed both hands to swim.
    Never used a regular gun with rubbers.
    I got a cheap double rubber gun, that needs new rubber.
    Outstanding tutorial.!

      Daniel Mann well the fish are certainly smaller than the ones in your videos. I’m thinking a little more what you get in the UK; Wrasse, bream, KGW, etc. Nice crayfish though. Also water might be similar, 16c max in Summer.

    Hi Daniel, please can you explain the reason for putting the rubbers in the freezer over winter? Great vid, Cheers!

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 років тому +6

      Stops them deteriorating. Heat is bad for rubber products. Works for me in the U.K. Alternatives are talcum powder.

    • @CharlieBates47
      @CharlieBates47 5 років тому

      More on preserving the latex rubber please: most “talcum” in the US is actually corn starch. Would wrapping in cling plastic wrap keep the O2 out and therefore help? I live on a boat and my bands are virgin, but toast... how long do they last in the freezer?

    • @nobody46820
      @nobody46820 4 роки тому +1

      @@CharlieBates47 This may help, get some Black Magic spray, and rub it into the outside of the bands. Keep them away from heat and light.

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 років тому +5

      Hey Henry, just a good number that I came to through trial and error. There is movement for more or less length of course but I always start there really. For single 16mm rubbers I would divide by 3.1 but for double bands I always go 2.7. Two bands is an awful lot of power, try loading both at the same time.

    Is better to use a lubricant like silicone spray when you tie the constrictor knot on the rubber so it will protect the rubber from cracking , the first place that your rubbers will crack by time is there because of the pressure from the knot, I always use a silicone gel and after each band use also

    more specifically, i am using 130cm x 7.5cm shaft on a 95cm picasso - with 2 x 14mm small id bands. should i keep my current 340% which was originally tied at 360% - or cut them shorter again to hit 360%
