Been diving and spearfishing for 40 years and made my first DIY band today. Always bought them in the past but now that I’m an old senior citizen, it’s nice to save some bucks. Thanks!
i don't even own a spear gun, but watched the whole thing haha But if i ever own one I'm coming straight back if i need to. Also great work on explaining all the steps with such a clear view on the knots. (you also might be able to find the di or spec at any sailing shop if you don't have a spear shop close by)
Daniel if you are tired spearfishing in the UK you are always welcome to Greece man, we have plenty of nice spots here ( not soooo much fish, almost like Italy)! we take the boat, you make your amazing videos and we get some fish! Win win!
Not spear fishing yet but come next summer I am there. I started watching Young Bloods which is great but his videos are made in very warm and clear water and being from New England USA I could not really relate to his setting. Your videos from the UK and such remind me of the area I live in and they inspire me to get out and give it a try, thanks
Thanks so much! Your videos encouraged me to give the sport a shot, kit myself out on a New Zealand vacation and just go diving without overthinking it (ofc while still taking all safety precautions). Loved every moment of it, spent as much time in the water as I could, and shot fish on basically every dive I did (I only took what I needed). Wouldn't have been possible without all the amazing videos and your knowledge shared. Thanks for providing this extremely well-made, high quality and still fun-to-listen-to content. You successfully ambassadored the sport ;)
Daniel.. I nearly speared my left index finger when I was trying to push one of those fat knots into a Sigalsub extreme rubber, but it did work out pretty good in the end (besides the cut and a blood red tinted spectra wishbone). Many thanks for your vids, I really enjoy them and keep learning a lot!
Thank you Daniel for sharing your skills. I lost my pneumatic gun last week in the river. They turned on the generators earlier than expected. I kinda panicked and thought I needed both hands to swim. Never used a regular gun with rubbers. I got a cheap double rubber gun, that needs new rubber. Outstanding tutorial.!
Awesome instructional video, added to favourites. Still wet here as well in South West Victoria. Really looking forward to shooting something, maybe you have some video content from this part of the world to share.
Daniel Mann well the fish are certainly smaller than the ones in your videos. I’m thinking a little more what you get in the UK; Wrasse, bream, KGW, etc. Nice crayfish though. Also water might be similar, 16c max in Summer.
Love your vids mate. I've just been given a speargun that needs replacement rubbers, this is the simplest most clearly explained vid I've seen for making these. Off to watch ya rigging video now 👍
Seeing as its your fault Dan for getting me into this sport, makes me all the more excited to start making my own rubbers using your videos. Thanks for posting this! Love your videos, especially the gear videos!
FANTASTIC how to video! Thank you! I've got to figure out the US version of the anchor and bridle lines you mentioned but your instructions are/were SUPER helpful and very appreciated!
Hey, thanks! This is so timely. My band is looking a little crusty and I've been meaning to look into what comes next... I'm looking forward to giving this a shot.
been using amber rubber on my gun, thats the second time i've heard that sigal sub rubber being described as excellant, nice to know, thanks and good info and filming of knots,i use metal inserts with riffe spectra as i am lazy :)
Those rubbers were looking cleannn, if its not worth diving maybe do some fish cooking videos with your favourite recipes? That would be nice since you get to eat so much fish
More on preserving the latex rubber please: most “talcum” in the US is actually corn starch. Would wrapping in cling plastic wrap keep the O2 out and therefore help? I live on a boat and my bands are virgin, but toast... how long do they last in the freezer?
You should spearfish hawaii one day i live on kauai and theres all kinds of interesting game here love your vids man have a good one -spearo from hawaii
Thank you so much Daniel! I just repaired and prepped another spear gun rubber for my holiday in Crete with your help. I'm now also rigging my own speargun thanks to your help! You are great man, keep making these, highly appreciated! Are you ever coming to my home island of Crete? Plans?
Great video, as always. I'm curious as to where the x(2/2.7) formula comes from. Could you explain or provide a link to a table giving the formulas for different rubber thicknesses? Thanks.
Hey Henry, just a good number that I came to through trial and error. There is movement for more or less length of course but I always start there really. For single 16mm rubbers I would divide by 3.1 but for double bands I always go 2.7. Two bands is an awful lot of power, try loading both at the same time.
Is better to use a lubricant like silicone spray when you tie the constrictor knot on the rubber so it will protect the rubber from cracking , the first place that your rubbers will crack by time is there because of the pressure from the knot, I always use a silicone gel and after each band use also
bro your videos are so good... thank you :) when i first created my rubbers, i aimed for 360% elongation, but after a few weeks of use, the rubbers became longer and is now 340% elongation. is it a regular protocol for you to shorten and retie all your bands after a few weeks of use? more specifically, i am using 130cm x 7.5cm shaft on a 95cm picasso - with 2 x 14mm small id bands. should i keep my current 340% which was originally tied at 360% - or cut them shorter again to hit 360%
Thanks Balint. Not sure I could provide enough extra content for Patrons after doing UA-cam content, Instagram content & 3 jobs... oh and actually diving too 😂
You dont have to, your videos are so educational, people will defenetly support you, i am talking about my experience and i am not even doing videos for learn, more maybe to entertain (www.patreon.com/balinthambalko) ,just set it up (20 min) and put it in your next movie!

Finally! A simple vid on how to put together a rubber with reasons for using certain knots. This is going straight to the Pool Room
I don't even have a speargun although I would really like one since I love handspears but I still watched the whole video.

Nothing better than getting that notification that you posted a new video. It's great your posting more often!
Thanks Alex!
How to make a spear gub rubber:
You will need a spear gun rubber
Daniel if you are tired spearfishing in the UK you are always welcome to Greece man, we have plenty of nice spots here ( not soooo much fish, almost like Italy)! we take the boat, you make your amazing videos and we get some fish! Win win!
Man the work you put into these videos is amazing and I promise you it’s paying of truly a amazing UA-camr
Cheers Thomas!
I used the rolling technique today (: works great and it saves on the amount of cord you use to tie off. Love your videos man.

Thanks Scott! Brodie from Youngbloods does a great job of his videos, thanks for watching here as well 👌

Thank you. A very informative and easy to follow video. Great work
I nearly speared my left index finger when I was trying to push one of those fat knots into a Sigalsub extreme rubber, but it did work out pretty good in the end (besides the cut and a blood red tinted spectra wishbone).
Many thanks for your vids, I really enjoy them and keep learning a lot!
Damn Daniel!!!! I love this, can’t get enough of these informational clips.
Thank's man! I have been using the Constrictor Knot on my Rubber's and had no idea how much they were damaging it. Excellent Video Mate!
New subscriber here in Marinduque Philippines.
Edge utility cutters made nice clean cuts quickly.
Thánk You so much mate! I searched in my own language but no proper answer. Keep it up!
this is what I need to watch, your the men, theres a lot of utube spear fishing but they dont teach how to make it,
My bridle snapped on my last trip. Going to give this a go. Thanks for taking the time to make a video mate.
Hope this helps 💪
Thank you Daniel for sharing your skills.
I lost my pneumatic gun last week in the river.

perfect timing.. was just about to make up a few rubbers for my 90cm. Will try those knots...
Super, clever and easy way to speargun rubber safety and looks very good. Thanks a lot & WATB.
Only youtuber that I get notifications for. Great Vids mate. Appreciate your work.
Cheers Kevin, appreciate the support!
Awesome instructional video, added to favourites. Still wet here as well in South West Victoria. Really looking forward to shooting something, maybe you have some video content from this part of the world to share.
Never dived in Victoria, would be a few years at least before I could get down there.
Daniel Mann well the fish are certainly smaller than the ones in your videos. I’m thinking a little more what you get in the UK; Wrasse, bream, KGW, etc. Nice crayfish though. Also water might be similar, 16c max in Summer.
Thinking quickly, Daniel constructs a speargun rubber with nothing but some cord, a lighter, and a speargun rubber.
XD
Extremely underrated coment
That’ a great ‘how to’. I enjoyed this vid. Thank you Daniel.
Watched this the last three times I needed to setup new bands... i think I know the knots now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
In the nicest way possible I sincerely hope this is the last time you watch this video 🤣
@@DanielMann Yeah right!? Haha... (Too old to learn) Actually I think I have it now. Booya.
What a really simple, really clever process. It's always easy when you know how . . . Great video Daniel. Thanks mate.
Thanks mate, could nearly do it blindfolded after working at two different spearfishing shops in my younger years.
Really helpful video - gets straight to the point and doesn’t miss anything out. Thanks!
Love your vids mate.
I've just been given a speargun that needs replacement rubbers, this is the simplest most clearly explained vid I've seen for making these.
Off to watch ya rigging video now 👍
Glad I could help 💪
Wonderful skill to have, thank you so much Mann for sharing your experience in international spearfishing community. You're rock!
Thanks, Optimum tutorial, just used it to change my double bands from 14mm to 15mm.
Didn't know that rubber can be cut like that. I usually just get a not very sharp knife and hammer it on the rubber. Great video
Great vid, started this thinking I would not learn much but amaizing, now always using this method on my rubbers
Very professional instructor
This video really help .
Seeing as its your fault Dan for getting me into this sport, makes me all the more excited to start making my own rubbers using your videos. Thanks for posting this! Love your videos, especially the gear videos!
#sorrynotsorry
Great vids keep em up, I got inspired to go spearfishing by you and it’s a much more enjoyable and fun way of catching fish
Awesome Isaac, it’s a great lifestyle.
Can you make a video about different types of speargun and where you prefer which one!
I’d probably just drop that sort of info into my future videos 👌
Very helpful. Thanks. Will try those knots right away.
Wow that wet knive tip is great! And the stopmotion :D
Thanks mate, the wet knife really helps.
Awesome video mate. Very helpful! Nick, Sunshine Coast, Australia
FANTASTIC how to video! Thank you! I've got to figure out the US version of the anchor and bridle lines you mentioned but your instructions are/were SUPER helpful and very appreciated!
Great video, thanks for sharing just ordered a load of new rubber and equipment to give it a bash✌️
I've learned a lot of things from your videos ...thank you every much.
Hey, thanks! This is so timely. My band is looking a little crusty and I've been meaning to look into what comes next... I'm looking forward to giving this a shot.
Gracias; saludos desde Chile, al Sur del mundo!...
Thanks for sharing that's what i need to know for may rubber SG👍🏻
Very good and useful video Mann, bravo (clap clap clap)!
awesome vid you should blog a day of you spearfishing and put in things you would usually cut/ not record
If I did that for a days diving it would be a loooooooong brining video!
it would still be fun to watch and enjoy though
Such a great video. I was going to buy mine online, but now I'm tempted to just make my own. Thank you.
Do it! Super easy 💪
This has been so helpful I can thank you enough. Im currently making my own spear gun and I think you could do a video on that or something.
been using amber rubber on my gun, thats the second time i've heard that sigal sub rubber being described as excellant, nice to know, thanks and good info and filming of knots,i use metal inserts with riffe spectra as i am lazy :)
Very nicely explained. Thinking of changing my gun's head to put these.
Definitely worth doing instead of the screw in rubbers.
Loving your stop-go animations and the sparky tools. Another sick vid🤙🏼
Hjkk
Those rubbers were looking cleannn, if its not worth diving maybe do some fish cooking videos with your favourite recipes?
That would be nice since you get to eat so much fish
Thanks bro .. it's new techniques to tie and make rubbers
Damn your method is WAAAAAY simpler than my painful method taught by my father, I can't wait to give him shit about it, Double Thanks!
Well done. Cheers
Thank you for having good tutorials and clearly showing knot tying technique !!
Very helpful video and quality content bro I like
Thanks man! Love the vids. Will be doing my own rubbers from now on
So much cheaper and better!
Easy and clearly explained.
Thanks!
Hi Daniel, please can you explain the reason for putting the rubbers in the freezer over winter? Great vid, Cheers!
Stops them deteriorating. Heat is bad for rubber products. Works for me in the U.K. Alternatives are talcum powder.
Works great in North Queensland Australia, however I put mine in my beer fridge
More on preserving the latex rubber please: most “talcum” in the US is actually corn starch. Would wrapping in cling plastic wrap keep the O2 out and therefore help? I live on a boat and my bands are virgin, but toast... how long do they last in the freezer?
@@CharlieBates47 This may help, get some Black Magic spray, and rub it into the outside of the bands. Keep them away from heat and light.
Reminded me of Basic Seamanship classes...50-some odd years ago!
Good information, though...and excellent use of knots!
Thanks - this was really helpful! Good timing - I was just needing this information!
No problem Tom, good luck 👌
Excellent no nonsense helpful video. Thanks
As per normal, excellent mate.
You should spearfish hawaii one day i live on kauai and theres all kinds of interesting game here love your vids man have a good one

Thats The way i do it yeah, Nice vídeo Daniel
Thanks for this dan I’m making my own
This video will come in handy a lot. Thanks heaps
awesome info daniel. I make my own rubbers but never seen the dyneema bridle inserts. Am definately gunna do that from now on. Thanks for the vid.
It's always nice to see your video mare. Keep it up ciao ciao 😃👍👏👋

Bravo Daniel, very alternative approach!
Love the haircut mate. And cool guide!
Any tips for staying in diving shape while away from the ocean for extended periods of time??
I cycle to work, run every now and then and do the odd CO2 table.
Is better to use a lubricant like silicone spray when you tie the constrictor knot on the rubber so it will protect the rubber from cracking , the first place that your rubbers will crack by time is there because of the pressure from the knot, I always use a silicone gel and after each band use also

Awesome video mate, thanks
Hey mate, when are coming back down under? Need some more snapper videos
Next year, not sure I’ll be getting stuck into any snapper though.
Thanks man, I’ve always used the constrictor but I’ll give the clove a crack
Thanks! Great video, seems like the simplest way to do it
Very clear and concise. 👍👍
Thanks Daniel, great video!
