Great video Aram! Hands finishing level, drop, pause, followed by a 75% arm reach in the recovery (to allow for soft shoulders). Then fully straighten as they come up for the catch. Bingo. thank you, Aram! i absolutely see what you are saying about fully extending my arms...i always struggle with tight shoulders, and trying to figure out how to keep them relaxed. thanks again for the great analysis. 😊

I tend to give unsolicited advice to the newbies at my club. Not because I'm an a-hole, but because I hate to see people have a bad rowing experience. The relaxed shoulders seems to be a big problem and I've found showing people how to use their lats by pointing their elbows down is pretty effective. Never had a coach but your vids are super helpful, Aram. The reaching for a bag of potato chips trick is my favourite. Thank you!

Nice analysis and good advices. I would like to add an explanation what a "real" washout is. If you have still force at the blades and start to release them ... I think that is a washout. When your stroke is over (no force anymore) and than you release the blades. I think that is what aram explained as "normal washout" Correct me if I am wrong
Hey Aram, I wondered whether lightweights should use less lean back at the finish than heavyweights, because they have less mass to accelerate the boat. According to this assumption, they'd ideally have a shorter stroke but could probably row higher frequencies... What are your thoughts on this?
My current opinion (= current point of probably being wrong) is that lighter athletes habe to adhere to similar rules than heavier ones. It has more to do with body proportions than with weight regarding how much lean back is beneficial.
