I like the fact that the ride ends with the skeleton cave, almost as though it brings us the implied fates of all of the pirates present during the battle that riders have just witnessed.
I always interprated it as if us, the riders, entered the Gunpowder storage as it sat ablaze, killing us in the process, thus sending us to this kind of dead man's realm. Why is Jack here then ? for clout I guess.
The order of events are odd, but there are some good ideas here: 1. The graveyard of ships at the beginning; 2. Plunging directly into the cannon fire scene; 3. The plunge and explosion at the end. Had this been preceded by the pirate shootout in the gunpowder storage it would have been brilliant.
I rode this last Sunday before it closed on Monday for its refurb! The queue was a 5 or 10 minute wait all day, my girlfriend and I were the only ones in the boat one of the rides! Excellent ride!!
ive ridden all the classic pirates rides and this one is by far the best you cant really compare any of them to shanghais pirates ride as its a completely different concept
I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time last November, honestly I really like this version over the ones in the US because of the order of events/sequence of rooms, it’s very very cool and tells a better story
How does this tell a better story? Can you explain it to me, because I don’t understand it. I don’t get why you see a burning jail, then much later a burning town. The jail scene just makes so much more sense to me in the original. Plus, while cute, I don’t like the talking skeleton head being used for an exit station spiel. I much prefer him above the first drop. So foreboding!
Having the skeletons at the beginning or the end? Which is better? I think that’s a subjective question. They both have pros and cons. What puts California’s ride over Paris is the ceiling (believe it or not). Hear me out: The ceiling in Paris is a series of hanging baffles that are supposed to muffle sounds from different scenes bleeding into each other. The problem is that they are very visible. Even if you’re not looking directly at them you know they’re there. This hits people at an unconscious level, taking them out of the immersive feeling of the scenes. In California, the ceiling is just a smooth surface painted matte black. It does a much better job of giving you the feeling of being outdoors. This one thing makes a BIG difference to the experience.
Have you ever seen Fatama Morgana at the Efteling (Netherlands)? Efteling also has the best dark ride called Symbolica, you really should experience it.
@@Attractions360 I will look them up, thank you. You really need to revisit that park next year because Spookslot has been demolished and will be replaced by the attraction Danse Macabre in October 2024. The attraction is surrounded by a complete new spooky area at Efteling. Pirana the wildwater ride has been redone and will reopen end June this year.
@@c.o63If the rumours are to be believed Ravelijn will cease to be a show and the area will be redone as a walkthrough attraction with actors, like at Puy du Fou, who already do the show. (I must mention their own park shows are way better than Ravelijn, though.) It's probably the big new thing for 2026, with a new fairytale in 2025.
Compared to the current L.A. version. ... perhaps. Nothing though can compare to the O.G. version when the boats ahead and behind were empty, and it's just me soaking up magic. 🖖☠👍
@@MrStGeorgeIllawarra And so am I! Turns out growing up in Orange County (notice I did NOT call it 'The OC') had it's advantages. Back when the surrounding countryside was still just countryside, Disneyland was almost more of a consequence of family shopping for fresh eggs, strawberries, oranges, (and yes, fresh Boysenberries from Knott's too). Pity so many will never get to make their own personal comparison between true imagineeiring and the extended DVD commercials called rides today. Perhaps someday you'll understand when it's your turn to be a piece of antiquated crap.
Matter of opinion. While the ride is Paris might have upgrade scenes, the original is stil the best. It has a better flow and a better chronological ride through.
As a french, i've always known this version very well. When i visited Orlando Magic Kingdom i was excited to discover the American version of PoC but what a disapointment. Our European vesion is more thrilling and the story is more cohesive to me.
The version in Magic Kingdom is the "worst" version of the ride. It's not necessarily bad, but it was rapidly done because people complained there wasn't a Pirates. Originally the plan was to have the Western River complex, as a Caribbean ride in the Carribbean seemed odd (you know, like a California park in California). It was planned to have a Pirates-like Western boat ride and a mine train rollercoaster. The ideas were recycled into Big Thunder Mountain and Disneyland Paris's Frontierland, though.
@@thecunninlynguist Shanghai is the one you’re probably referring to. It’s based off the 2nd and 3rd Pirates movies. If I were to rank them, I’d say Shanghai has the best, Anaheim has the second best, France is a close 3rd and Orlando has easily the worst one (only because it was made super quick and isn’t as long as the others)
Shanghai's Pirates is great, but it's a whole different ride than the original Pirates. It's as different as Paris's Space Mountain (and presumably Tokyo's upcoming one) are to the "original" one in America and Hong Kong. Heck, I wouldn't even mind Disney building that Shanghai version right next to the original one in Paris, on that giant expansion plot there. I would love them both!
I have to say I like the drops being right away in the California version/being in the dark/going through the cavern. It kind of feels like you're entering through a portal into the pirate world, whereas in this version the drops feel more gimmicky. I love the additions to the first room though.
Does anyone know if the man speaking French in the last Jack Sparrow animatronic is actually Johnny Depp? He *is* a fluent French speaker, it would make far more sense to have Johnny record some French lines in Jack Sparrow's voice.
Agreed. Ruined Big Red and the wrench scene with wokeness. I’m female too and say the original was the best. That was how it was back in those days. People need to get over it and stop being offended.
The first part of this ride is awful. So bland, a lot of nothing. Definitely gets a little better at the end. The original is still the best! OG all the way!
Since Disney fired Johnny Depp (HUGE MISTAKE) Disneyland tore down all of it. No more Pirate ships, Pirates, the whole that whole part of the Pirate Adventure Land was destroyed!!! 😔😔

Really good camera work plus clarity in low lighting situations. Much appreciated 🙏
Cameras on phones are getting better at filming in low lighting situations each year. Still always go with 30 fps over 60 fps to let more light in!

Paris is more tropical and has enlarged scenes but lacks the moodiness and spookiness of California.
You say spookiness, and I love the OG version, but those cavern treasure scenes can also feel slow and boring in Anaheim.
@@chicagocarlessI agree. I do feel Disneyland is better compared to Magic Kingdom overall, but the caves goes on for way too long in it.
Paris version is my favorite, it has great effects and elements of the movies but still the charm of the original and is a thid nostalgic.
