@@randykoger4646 They just dont serve the same purpose at all. Paul Free's ghost host is playful and lowkey comical, Price's ghost is supposed to be macabre and creepy
Every night over and over again, when it becomes dark and everyone is heading for main street, this is a great picture place.. (with the phatom in the window not to miss)
Phantom Manor is the elegant old world spin on the Haunted Mansion that takes itself with a little bit more sincerity. The Haunted Mansion is great but phantom Manor is like a dark fairy tale . I adore it.
I remember at Haunted Mansion in Orlando, a cast member put up a sign signaling the end of the line for the ride, and he was so good at acting like a ghost that for a second I thought he was one.
I visited Disneyland Paris last month and Phantom Manor was my favorite ride there. Such a beautiful and haunting concept. I felt it has a much better and creepier story than Haunted Mansion in Disneyland & WDW
Basically walked right on when we were at Disneyland California, middle of August, early afternoon and there was like 1 group ahead of us…i remember because I had a front of the line pass(it was my make-a-wish trip) and didn’t have to use it…so it may be rare but it does happen!!
We regularly go in December & during a parade or on the run up to the fireworks show you can frequently get to access the Phantom Manor with ease. It’s not that it’s under unpopular attraction, but the guests are busy queuing or at another big attraction. It’s down to timing.
The last I’ve ridden this ride was 2005 and hadn’t kept up with any news of changes to the attraction… until I saw this video out of random curiosity! I can’t believe the changes they’ve made namely the swap of the Phantom at the end of the ride where I distinctly remember him looking much more horrifying and disturbing (like rotting flesh with eyeballs) and of course the bride soon after being nothing but a skeleton pointing to the mirrors. It left a haunting message at the end of the ride about the obsession of love and longing festering someone to the point of wasting their life until death.
I miss the original story. Star crossed lovers with a mysterious Phantom. Now it's too obvious who the Phantom is, and having 4 lovers goes from a beautiful tragedy to almost a comedy. And originally near the end it felt like the bride was saving you from the Phantom. Now she's being used by him to lure you to your demise? No thank you!
I will never get over the loss of the original portraits in the foyer and stretching room. They were beautiful and haunting. The newer ones don't even look like real antique paintings from the victorian era, they look like gritty over shaded fan art from tumblr. The loss of the Melanie animatronic in the first turn into the hallway is yet another thing I mourn so deeply.
As French. I rode the Original Phantom Manor so many times since I was kid. And I agree The 1992 was far more darker but it was piched black through the ride. Not every in rooms.
I'm sitting here at my desk imagining I'm at Disneyland Paris & in the que to go on this ride. It's a fabulous but creepy sunset & I can't wait for my turn to board!!❤
This new version is beautiful but is missing the melancholy and mystery of the old one. And Melanie saying "Marry me!" straight up sounds like she's evil, which she isn't originally. Still my favorite ride though.
I’d love to see Disney do a movie solely on Phantom Manor since it has a totally darker story then to that of the Haunted Mansion. There’s alot of material in this ride they can work with for a Phantom Manor film. 👍🤩
Couldn't agree more. "Phantom Manor" Backstory is more interesting and intriguing at the same Time. The storytelling itself takes place in the Far Wild West. I really hope Disney will make a movie of our French Haunted Mansion which connects to Big Thunder Mountain and Thunder Mesa Town. Yep the whole Frontierland is connected with them
the new haunted mansion movie was supposed to be based on the phantom manor, you can tell because the ending remake of grim grinning ghosts has a southern/western twang to it
Wonderful video and great exterior shots! I did wonder why there was a Western ghost town under the manor but it is next to Big Thunder Mountain/Frontierland and the Boot Hill sign when you leave makes it clear they meant to show the manor must have built over a ghost town. Very neat!
The story of both rides are actually connected as the Phantom is the spirit of the Owner of the mining company from Big Thunder and an earthquake hit that caused the town to be buried.
Part of it was also an opportunity for the Imagineers to dust off the old plans they had for the abandoned Western River Expedition that Disney World Orlando was supposed to get.
@@Blundabus1337 Basically there are two stories, but you can combine them. The Ravenswood family founded the town of Thunder Mesa, a booming mining town. They had a daughter named Melanie Ravenswood. She grew to be beautiful attracting the hand of many suitors. (5 if you combine the stories) the last of which was the owner of the Thunder mountain railroad.(Jake?) The father Henry Ravenswood didn't think any of the suitors were worthy of her hand in marriage so he opposed the weddings. An earthquake in 1860 killed The elder Ravenswoods. One problem, the native americans warned of an evil spirit on "Boot Hill" where they built the manor. The "Thunder Bird". The angry spirit of the thunder bird may have caused the quake that shattered the town as well as possessing Henry Ravenswood. Jake tried to marry Melanie but was lured into the attic by the now malevolent spirit of Henry aka "the phantom" and hung him on their wedding night. after that day Melanie sang mournful wedding tunes the rest of her life. Depending on which version you subscribe to she aged until death and saves visitors of the manor by warding her father away with her own power.(Her corpse found at the end of the ride) In the new ending, she remains the same age in ghostly form and seems to have been corrupted now laughing maniacally like the phantom. (Her suitors in 4 graves at the end of the ride with no Jake) She always wears her wedding dress. That's what I got out of it.
