Laudna's reaction to Chetney's gift, my god. Despite being intensely creepy as just her entire thing, she's also so very innocent and it's kind of sad?
Marisha is NAILING the creep factor. I didn't care too much for Keyleth (didn't dislike her though), and Beau was good, but Laudna is in the running for my favorite char of c3.
It's a real strange feeling. She's not entirely innocent also, but pity I feel. For, imagine, she's basically a puppet to lady D, and we don't know if she even has any control over her own fate. She's in many ways like Patê.

as an egyptian and an arab, i have to say i admire Matt's use and incorperation of arab culutre, feel and words inside the world. for example the eisfuurra race ( eisfuurra is what we call a small bird in egypt ) and another example in this episode is the Raha Den ( Raha in Arabic means rest ) so it basically means the rest den 😂 so i just wanted to show how much i appriciated the incorperation as alot of people like to stay away from our culutre cuse of the stereotypes 😕.
Oh wow that's so cool, I didn't know that! I really like your culture, especially the Medieval and ancient parts and the Architecture. I myself am working on a Desert/Arabian inspired homebrew Campaign Setting :D
A few episodes earlier he had the mentioned The Tuatha dé Danann who were Celtic myth of near god like supernatural race that resided in the ‘Otherworld’ but that were able to interact with those living in the ‘Real World’. I think that’s what he was saying, the pronunciation I’ve heard were from the “iron Druid “ series of books by Kevin Hearne.
So great to hear! I think they got some criticism before the campaign for using an arab inspired setting despite none of them being of that culture, but I think that was a classic case of white liberal Americans getting offended in the place of other people. From my experience, almost every culture around the world is happy to get some representation and appreciation, as long as it's done in a thoughtful and respectful way. And it's definitely cool to break out of the classic medieval Europe fantasy tropes, the arab world is so rich with history and culture that it's a shame it's not used more in RPGs.
@@LookingForAName... I agree with ya. And honestly, they constantly are using their position of power to help shed light on others, and are showing more and more representation. Which is amazing
From what I heard from 4 Sided Dive, Chutney is definitly based on like a Santa elf. But Matt woult let him be one dirextly since Santa isnt canon in Taldorei haha

Spoilers Below! At first I thought it was a consequence of their rage, but Phantasmal Killer causing Ashton to see a more broken, fucked up version of himself was awesome and terrible. The fact that their deepest fear seems to be not only being broken, but their powers and, by extension, their body essentially being a mysterious, ticking time bomb really serves to highlight the facade they carried in earlier episodes regarding their nonchalance towards their injury/death, (or it's a realization they're only just coming to terms with). And the fact that they went into a Hyper Rage for the first time in response to being frightened and then watching an NPC abandon a friend, echoing almost exactly what they heard on the ground, ( "Leave him" ), was pretty brutal. Matt creates amazing high risk/high reward subclasses and Tal has talked about how he loves to play them, so the potential for Ashton's powers to have negative side effects isn't outside the realm of possibility, which would make this encounter even more fascinating, i.e. one of Ashton's deepest fears coming true.
I think Matt was trying to play up that consequence angle for cast and crew. Unfortunately for myself the meta effects of playing the game a fair bit ruined that effect for me. You can kind of get used to magic items, monsters and spells such that familiarity breeds contempt. Which is mostly a long-winded way of saying I recognized Phantasmal Killer for what it was straight away. Though I do agree it does a lot of exposition work in regards to Ashton's character here. I have to hand it to Matt for using a simple spell to say so much and painting that picture.
Matt has talked about having a speech impediment which he overcame to become an amazing voice actor and one of the most well known DM's of all time. It's so inspiring to see him laughing it off when he has difficulty, I'm sure internally he's mortified but he makes it seem like no big deal (which it isn't!) and everyone is laughing WITH him instead of AT him. You're amazing Matt, thanks for doing what you do and for being so brave and hard working. Keep it up!
It's amazing to have a group of friends who genuinely laughs with you in an instant, that you trust implicitly and instantly that they're on your side and just laughing at something silly that happened. It trust is a great feeling! And yeah, Matt had a speech impediment AND imposter syndrome. It's inspiring honestly
Don't invent narratives. Assumption is lame. You aren't deep and Insightful. You have no idea if he'd have stumbled with or without a history of a speech impediment. Not everything has to be an inspirational story. Compassion only matters if you don't diminish its meaning with this whole vibe of, "hey everybody look at me, I get it, I'm deep, I can tell everyone's feelings, and most importantly, look at me give me attention!" Am I rambling pointlessly? Yes... Yes I am. But there's an element to your comment that is the epicenter of cringe that poisons an otherwise great group making great content. Tl;dr: People like you are why Brian foster was fired and the channel is worse off for you all being in the fandom.
@@andy2069 Andy... in the span of two seconds you went from "don't make assumptions" to "people like you are why Brian Foster was fired". Are you drunk?
Why is nobody talking about the PERFECT acting by Marisha? I'm 1h20m in and I can't count on one hand the time Laudna spoke, and she's always looking down, not her goofy self, she seems very hesitant. After the last episode's ending I think this is PERFECT acting. Kudos.
Marisha is knocking it out of the fucking park this campaign. I thought beau was much better than Keyleth and Laudna is much better than Beau. It seems like as her DnD time goes on, she gets better and better at really becoming her character. I think I remember reading C1 was her first big DnD campaign. So a few years later and she's killing it.
@@jacobw.6744Yeah man Keyleth and Beau was never really among my favorite characters either so I was a little suprised when Laudna very quickly became my favorite character of this party and the only contender that really comes close is Chetney. @@Sizzox Chetney and Lauda top my list as well. Imogen is up there but that might just because I might be partial to Laura. I loved Jester and both of the twins so my biases might be poking through. However, with Laudna it's the exact opposite which really impresses me. Marisha is killing it.

I watched the finale of The Last of Us the very same day I started this episode and now the reason for Ashley's change in hair color has finally dawned on me.
The moment at 1:42:27 where Travis gets distracted by Laura and forgets to roll a perception check and she has to remind him is cracking me up so much :))
I love how Travis and Ashley had the comparably normal, not crazy screw with everything characters last campaign and this campaign they both showed up with very, it’s our turn attitudes
Honestly that's the brilliant part about Fearne. Normally a chaos kleptomaniac would get a bit tiresome after awhile, even if it is how a lot of people would play DnD. But as a fae, it's totally in line for Fearne to be a total agent of chaos who actively seeks loopholes in agreements, has no concept of personal ownership, and little concept of personal boundaries. Because that's typically just how the fae roll anyway
@@hfar_in_the_sky I still find it tiresome, to be honest. But I suspect Ashley has some form of character arc in mind, which I imagine probably involves some level of growth in terms of impulse control
@@QuantumFerret I do as well on both counts. Most of the time the 'lol chaos gremlin" bit is funny and other times I'm just like "Oh, not this again." But Ashley in the past has been very good with deep character arcs and so it'll be interesting to see what she does with Fearne

i consider it normal around there. he told everyone to not overpay stuff and the first offer is always higher for the sake of bargaining so when she said 12 silver and he gave her 11 instead the custom of asking high but paying lower has been maintained from both sides without haggling over something neither side saw worth the effort to. whether matt let it slip on purpose or he didn't notice i don't know, but it makes sense.
A story every D&D player has been through: 41:07 Taliesin has an idea 41:10 Taliesin wants to share his idea, but realizes none of the players (except Liam) noticed 41:15 "Okay, they didn't hear me, but I can try again..." 41:19 Still nobody listens 41:24 The realization that nobody listened and everyone is invested in what Laura and Marisha are doing. After that you can see Taliesin a little fidgety and lost in thought, most certainly going through some emotions. Still wanting to do his thing and thinking about, if it's worth trying again. But at 41:41 literally and visually dropping the thought, but still a little emotional about it. And finally getting back into the game at around 42:10 and listening to what Liam is describing. And from that point on trying to contribute in another way to what the group has decided to do, with 42:37 "Is that a strength thing?" But then seizing the opportunity when nobody is really doing anything at 43:37 to bring back the idea and finally being heard. Which is the good ending of this story, but we all know too well, that it doesn't always go this way. And to be able to put your own wants aside to try and contribute to the game is a true sign of a great player. Unless you have to do it all the time, then you might just have a horrible group.
If it was good idea he'd have interjected more. It wasn't. But he waited his turn and interjected when he could. I don't think he felt what you're projecting. And then ultimately I think he only hesitated more because he was trying to decide if it was dumb and pointless. It was and he still did it and it in was all simply, fine.

@@lovethepandainyou i think seeing how sweet Laudna is to everyone made Imogen realize how badly she has treated her and that Laudna would never actually lie to her :(
Its such a good contrast with how she acted towards Laudna the rest of the episode. It really shows the consequences. Just because you're angry with Laudna doesn't mean Laudna is going to be anyone else but her kindest self to other people and they will appreciate. It shows being angry with someone can be really lonely.

I gotta say the whole time before the episode ended I was like, “come on Laura I know Imogen has things to talk to Laudna about, do it befo-!” Matt: “And that’s where’ll pick up next week.” “DAMN IT!!!!”
I wanted it too so bad, but I feel like this is really in line with Imogen's character. She is so closed off and desperate for control. I honestly feel like only after seeing Dusk with Laudna she might be in a place where she is ready to talk about it. Because it's so much easier to be angry about what happened than accept that it happened and think about the consequences. (also all the small moments between Laudna and imogen were so good that I also don't mind it being stretched out longer, it's so juicy).
As an homage to Matt & CR, I made a character whose initials are M.A.W. and she uses “Maw” as her name. She has now-grown children, and many folks (including the party of characters) assume Maw is a variation of Ma, like mother. But several of my fellow players got the reference.
Anyone else think that any time they end the ad with “the next time sponsors the show”, you’re just WAITING to find out it’s a cliffhanger? Like “yup, this is the one that did it. This is the one that made the sponsor pull out…”
Ashton is a VERY passive character for being a barbarian. Travis's "Boring" comment after Ashton's response to being mind fucked was to "Go through his stuff" made me chuckle 🤣
Spoiler alert. The level of joy that the airship scene brings me is unbelievable. What an amazing gameplay moment when they latch onto the beast below.
This ad writing is excellent, it starts with 6 raw eggs every morning, that I cook with butter and salt. Matt eats 3, Omar gets 2. Absolutely excellent stuff. Quality writing. Top tier
Marisha gets so much shit online, but what she’s doing with Laudna is fucking brilliant. The Patè and Sashimi gag is arguably my favorite dynamic in Critical Role history. So fucking funny. By far her best character ever. Maybe my favorite of the entire cast this season.

Update: 36. Wow ._.
as an egyptian and an arab, i have to say i admire Matt's use and incorperation of arab culutre, feel and words inside the world. for example the eisfuurra race ( eisfuurra is what we call a small bird in egypt ) and another example in this episode is the Raha Den ( Raha in Arabic means rest ) so it basically means the rest den 😂 so i just wanted to show how much i appriciated the incorperation as alot of people like to stay away from our culutre cuse of the stereotypes 😕.
That is honestly one of the many things that makes him an amazing DM

Compassion only matters if you don't diminish its meaning with this whole vibe of, "hey everybody look at me, I get it, I'm deep, I can tell everyone's feelings, and most importantly, look at me give me attention!"
Am I rambling pointlessly? Yes... Yes I am.

41:10 Taliesin wants to share his idea, but realizes none of the players (except Liam) noticed
41:15 "Okay, they didn't hear me, but I can try again..."
41:19 Still nobody listens
41:24 The realization that nobody listened and everyone is invested in what Laura and Marisha are doing.
And from that point on trying to contribute in another way to what the group has decided to do, with 42:37 "Is that a strength thing?"
But then seizing the opportunity when nobody is really doing anything at 43:37 to bring back the idea and finally being heard.

Well oiled machine. It is really incredible they are big.
No one needed the month break more that Matt after that.
Remember to listen to the gnoll monologue at .25 speed if you want the full temporal morass experience
This made it so cool lol
In my homebrew campaign I’ve made a tavern/inn called “The Toothy Maw” out of respect for Matt and Critical Role.
As an homage to Matt & CR, I made a character whose initials are M.A.W. and she uses “Maw” as her name. She has now-grown children, and many folks (including the party of characters) assume Maw is a variation of Ma, like mother. But several of my fellow players got the reference.
@@bouncingbean love it! 😆
@Follow the howl love this, too! 😂
Is the door to it partially a jar?
Just once I want Matt to start it with "Hello everyone and welcome to Critical Role, the show where everything's made up and the points don't matter."
Reminds me of game changer
OMG I love it!
@Wav03 it's "who's line is it anyway?"
Id die
Anyone else think that any time they end the ad with “the next time sponsors the show”, you’re just WAITING to find out it’s a cliffhanger? Like “yup, this is the one that did it. This is the one that made the sponsor pull out…”
Xandis said they weren't carnivorous and that it attacking was a rarity, but maybe possible
I absolutely MELT every time when Travis/Chetney brings out a present for a party member ^^
I love how both Travis and Laura have had characters go bald from wild magic!
I was wondering why Liam looked so serious during the cashapp sponsor. HE WAS IN HIS CHARACTER 🤣🤣🤣
Liam is the king of staying in character 😁
Ashton is a VERY passive character for being a barbarian. Travis's "Boring" comment after Ashton's response to being mind fucked was to "Go through his stuff" made me chuckle 🤣
21:54 He’s makin’ a list, he’s checking it twice
Gonna get you unless you change your price
@@jodah_eternal Pock O'Pea is going to town!
I always think Ashley looks beautiful anyways but with the new hair colour she’s even more stunning xx
Liam: so when you ask Ashton a question expect a response with in 24-48 hours.
It was then Ashton became my spirit animal 🤣🤷🏾♂️
Everyone laughing at the FCG/bird story. Episode 85, Sam's going to bring it all around to be some kind of real tragedy. Calling it now.
Spoiler alert.
The level of joy that the airship scene brings me is unbelievable. What an amazing gameplay moment when they latch onto the beast below.
"Flesh tongue FCG can't hurt me"
I was screaming at work when I heard that.
Can’t wait for the bird bbeg for FCG’s backstory

This ad writing is excellent, it starts with 6 raw eggs every morning, that I cook with butter and salt. Matt eats 3, Omar gets 2. Absolutely excellent stuff. Quality writing. Top tier
Marisha gets so much shit online, but what she’s doing with Laudna is fucking brilliant. The Patè and Sashimi gag is arguably my favorite dynamic in Critical Role history. So fucking funny. By far her best character ever. Maybe my favorite of the entire cast this season.
"Found, Cobbled Together and Presented Proudly" Matt I don't appreciate being so accurately summed up in one sentence... 😅
