How much does this rod weigh?
Is a heavy to much power to throw all cranks?
With it being a fiberglass composite rod, it is going to feel slightly heavier than a graphite rod. However, Seth is okay with adding a little extra weight to to achieve the action he feels is necessary for fishing crankbaits and chatterbaits. This action is difficult to replicate with a graphite rod. Seth prefers this rod for all of his crankbaits, but you may find some smaller squarebills and lighter balsa baits to be a little bit harder to throw.
What’s the rod power on that rod?
The rod is the 7'4" Daiwa Tatula (Model: TTU741HRB-G), which is a glass composite rod, Heavy Power, Moderate-Fast Action.
Whats the specific line brand does he use?
He uses Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon
This dude seems cool
Why do a lot of guys use a crankbait rod for chatterbaits? You're going from trebles to a size 4/0 or 5/0 single hook on a typical chatter.
A lot of times it is the bite. Usually the bite is pretty aggressive and trigger happy anglers can react too fast and end up pulling the hook out of the fishes mouth. The glass or composite rods with a slower taper help combat that from happening. It's all preference.
My tatula sucks. Can't get any distance with it at all. Big crankbaits little crankbaits, doesn't matter. Throw my son's curado that is sweet!!!
No spool tension (just a little bit of side to side movement in the spool), brakes down just until backlashes start to happen. Best performance possible. If that doesn't work something might be wrong with the reel. Tight lines out there!
You talking about the rod and/or reel?
I have a tatula and I can bomb it. Sounds like you need to backoff on the brakes and possibly loosen the spool a little.
