A video about deodorant you didn't know you needed to see

- Deodorant companies are trying to SCAM you by selling sticks that contain less than HALF the amount of deodorant than it appears!!!
Some companies are worse than others so I test and review the top 6 selling brands of deodorant to find out just how much deodorant is really inside the plastic sleeves they're sold in. The results from my test will tell you which brands are the best value and the most honest, and which are the worst. - Комедії
im just sitting here eating listening to a guy talking about deodorant brands which aren't even relevant or available in my country
it's like watching interdimensional tv (and that's a very good thing)
twisting the knob usually pushes the plastic protector off, don't break a tooth over this.
I didn't realize that for years until I saw it somewhere on reddit. I felt so dumb
If you don't rip that bad boy out with your teef you're a pussy. 🤷🏻♂️
@@chucklebutt4470If you rip that bad boy out with your teeth, you'll have to call them "teef" because you won't be able to say "teeth" again.
I tried that, and the inside screw just turns straight into the contents and no longer functions. YMMV
Wtf do you all have weak baby teeth or some shit?
They need to make pringles cans have a twisty bottom like deodorant.
Then you wouldn't need to jam your entire forearm into the can!
And all that unnecessary plastic
But then how am I supposed to cosplay Megaman when trying to get the last few chips?
All the chips would have a massive hole in the middle though since that's where the corkscrew gear is that pushes it up is
@@alex17272 It wouldn't have to be disposable
I would like someone to test this on women's deodorant!
seconding this!!
Yes please!!!
not that necessary. but I agree
@@thomasengel1459 The thing is, I think the most used women's deodorant brands are different. The only one I've used from this list is Speedstick, so I can expect similar results from the women's version. But we don't have women's Old Spice.
However, it wouldn't be out of the question for them to treat women's product different than men's. It's like that sometimes.
@@thomasengel1459 Really? Could you timestamp where he tests Secret brand deodorant, cause I must have missed it.
As a speed stick guy I feel wholly vindicated for my irrational lifetime loyalty
Here here!
Same. They don't sell it anymore here in Brazil - I stock up every year when I travel to the US for company business.
I'd like to see this with the brands us girls get! Secret, Dove, Degree, etc. This video got me curious on how our stuff stacks up.
Degree sport for men too! I that's what literally all my guy friends wear, and even some of my girl friends. I was surprised it wasn't included in this video.
Is it just me or is ours way more expensive than theirs? The old "pink tax" trick
@@judejames6225 Yes! It really feels that way
I stg I use Secret over my Old Spice any day. Makes me feel dryer longer, cleaner and has that pleasant powder neutral smell. & like Jude said I feel it's subject to a 'pink tax' but IDC, it works best for me from all of the deodorant I've tried. Gendered product is bullshit plain and simple, but I guess I'm a 'fruit' for even saying that 💀 y'all can keep using your weakass speedstick and old spice for all I care kekw
Mitchum too!
In Canada, we used to have this show on TV during the early 80's called "Street Cents". This video brings back those days when "Street Cents" taught kids about deceptive advertising. Good job.
This makes me happy my gel stick deodorant comes in a translucent package. What you see is what you get
It's actually way easier to be deceptive with gel deodorants, since the amount of air included in the mixture is almost impossible to see with the naked eye, plus impossible to weigh accurately even if you push it all out.
It's impossible to pick out an airy mix from a pure gel mix without some serious instruments.
Gillette deodorant smells nice too
@@miguelzavaleta1911 Good point on the airy mixture, but how much does air weigh again? You can definitely get an accurate weight. Unless you're measuring things in huge vats, you don't need to account for the weight of air in it.
@@miguelzavaleta1911 The air does not effect the weight, 🤣🤣
@@josef5600 That's not how this works...
"impossible to remove plastic cover"?..... you just need to push it out by twisting at the bottom....... you ok dude?
omg why have i not thought of this
ahahahaha laughed to tears at your comment :D
I ruin people's lives when I tell them they just have to twist the bottom to get the deodorant cap off. Seriously, I have never failed to blow somebody's mind with that knowledge.
I thought this was a joke! You mean people don't know this? Seriously?
@@XLifeLineX Lol, sounds dumb, but I just figured this out a couple of years ago and I'm in my 50's lol
This is actually good content my man, interesting and informative
LMFAO
Nah, they left the plastic base on the deodorant for half of them to get over the net oz, then left it off for axe. What gives?
This man taking the piss.
I got a secret but don't tell anybody. Milk of magnesia is the best deodorant I've used and I've used almost all of them. Yes, the same stuff people take as laxative

10 months later and this gem finally made its way to reddit.
Fact. I didn't know I needed to watch this until Reddit told me to
Reddit said I must watch. Thats why I'm here
You can get speed stick at the dollar store.. for a $1!! Even better deal!!!
Be careful...might be made in China. Sketchy.
Amen 🙌
And soap!
Do they put less product in it though is the question 🤔
@@phylanthropist You might only be getting 50¢ of deodorant! Bastards!
If they would be honest these companies might save money on plastics.
As with most companies in 2020, there business is selling plastic.
@@BCarnes I wouldn't disagree to that at all. It's far cheaper to continue to use the same moulds as the product changes than it is to have new moulds made.
Bigger packet for same amt of stuff will trick the customers therefore they will profit more by that
Hope I can find someone to care about me the way Mitch cares about Deodorant companies
One thing to factor in on "wasted space": the deodorant needs to be nested slightly below the top to account for the plastic seal. Also, there is some variation in the drive mechanism and package molding so not all of them can necessarily go down all the way effectively. When buying, though, it is important to remember that it takes a lot more antipersperant than deodorant to do the same job. It goes on thicker and doesn't spread as well, so an equivalent-sized package won't last as long. Unless you REALLY need antipersperant properties, you're better off going with deodorant, both for longevity and your skin health.
Another point is how much of the product weight is actually ‘useable’. Some sticks looked like much of it was below the line. This could also have contributed to lower figures for weight.
Yep came here to say this. There is always a good amount left at the bottom that is unusable. That should should factored in here.
Speed Stick also works better than the chalky white ones.
The Arm & Hammer is the only one with the right consistency, I hate the greasy feeling gel type.
I miss the old style Mennen solid unscented.
Works better for you.. The white stuff is where its at imo
@@MegaPuggz yea. As someone who sweats at any temp over like 50°F, antiperspirant is a must. I don't think I've ever seen an antiperspirant gel deodorant
To each their own, but that gel just makes me feel wet.
And then there is women's 'clinical' strength, which I swear is 1/3 of the package size
LOL when you started showing how much empty space there was in the deodorant tube, I ran to grab mine and see how bad it was
Why the hell did I watch this lol, I'm from the UK and I've never seen any of these...
Other than that great video and would watch again 10/10.
In addition to an "effectiveness" test, I would like a second round with more deodorants for a "fullness" test.
Dove gang represent.
Dove Gang!
Woaao
Dove sensitive here.
Tom's, for when you just can't get enough BO on your own.
Its not just me! I put that shit on and immediately smelled like BO. Wtf?
Dude Toms Deodorant never works for me! I use the Dove Men+Care instead and it actually works all day compared to the hour that Toms last!
@@niko_pdx Man, ill try that. Thanks
seriously... everything tom's sells seems to just make things worse. their toothpaste sucks too.
Tried once. Threw away.
This was great!! Very useful and unique information!! Would love to see that sweat prevention/BO review. I’ve always used old spice so I’m glad it wasn’t too bad on the review! Love your vids, keep up the good work!!!
Bro, if that Tom's deodorant made their packaging any smaller I wouldn't be able to grip it.
Yeah i feel like deodorant companies have to balance functionality and making them look uniform/easy to grip. I don't think they add the space in there purely to deceive consumers. The most important data from this video is the price per ounce and not necessarily the vessel they come in.
@@Ramhound7 why don't they fill the vessel?
"You put your weed in it..."
Honestly this!!
I almost got caught once when my dad used my deodorant from my school backpack.
"Is this pine scented?"
@@Saskguy20 ironic that the 'rant was in your bookbag because your father rubbed it on his bag
The ones with the most deceptive packaging have antiperspirants in them which means they're subject to the FDAs rules and regulations over packaging because the companies need to include the drug information section in a font that is readable.
That's why fold-out labels exist. There's no need to increase the actual container's size.
Why is it I can buy tiny bottles of ibuprofen, allergy meds, etc without issue?
@@davidlevy706 true, travel sized antiperspirants have fold out labels and other containers have drug information on a box with the tiny bottles inside containing less information.
Damn, great video. And so well made! Loved the animation sequence you used and everything. Will check out your other vids!
alright speed stick 😅 have the exact one
Loved the content man. I would like to see the tests on deodorant performance! Keep it up.
"A nice, hard, respectably-good-sized 6-and-a-half inch tube of toothpaste" i'm dying
Great video, never knew I was curious about this but explained extremely well!
I'm not even American, nor am I looking for crappy budget deodorants, but I really enjoyed this video, my guy! Keep it up. Leaving a comment for the UA-cam algorithm.
Great content, I'd love to see you test out the deodorants
This was just posted on reddit. Get ready for some views, mate! Absolutely love the green screen rotating deodorant and to-the-point presentation! 😁
Wow, solid video, loved your sense of humor. Thx YT recommendations!
This was an awesome video my man! I have a short attention span so I always skim through videos but watched your whole video, good job sir.
My honest reply "not all of them?".. The way i look at stick deodorants in the shop is that they are at best half full, none of them are full.
Good content my dude. Learned much and the Video was interesting
I dig the pacing, I dig the absence of an overly expressive face in the thumbnail, and I dig that this was something I'd never have stopped to consider. Your voice is informative but not dull.
One thing that wasn't clear to me (it wouldn't take long to figure out but I'm not going to) was whether the price per ounce was the price per advertised ounce or the price per measured ounce.
Liked this a lot! Thanks for the informative breakdown!
The end killed me, hahaha - just randomly putting the sticks in places and pushing them around like a cat, brilliant!
Been on Reddit since the olden times, this video is the first to get me to switch to UA-cam app so I could sub to the channel.
Very informative, thank you. Good to know I chose well when I chose to go with Speed Stick.
Great stuff, mucho liko... keep bringing this fun content to youtube! A follow up on the Stink prevention factor would be splendid, etc. etc... Thanks!
I noticed that some deodorants last longer than others.
I think you should do a video that's similar to "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop" but instead you find out how many applicants of deodorant you get per stick per brand.
And then you can calculate the price/application ratio so you can find the true value.
To remove the "impossible to remove plastic covers" simply advance the deodorant with the dial. It will pop off.
Not just deceptive, incredibly wasteful in a time where we should be looking for every little way that we can produce less plastic waste.
Great video. Raises awareness of common techniques used to increase sales and minimise costs for the manufacturers. Well presented, clear audio and video. 👍
I'd love to see one about women's deodorant
Hint: Deodorant sticks don't prevent you from sweating, deodorants control the smell associated with sweat but not the actual sweating part.
Antiperspirants however do, they block the sweat glands but, yes, there's a but, the water will have to come out of your body somehow and that somehow is by coming out from another place like your chest or your back.
What a good video. Some of my recommendations are fire. Im glad I found your channel.
I've been using speed stick for 13 years because they don't have aluminum inside. Glad to see I made good choices.
subbed, thanks for keepin em honest out there.
Thank you for making this, I'm sick of giving dishonest companies my money
Commenting for the algorithm so deceptive companies can FEEL THE SHAME!
Solid info and well presented. Well done.
I’ve been usin Arm & Hammer for almost 16 years, and I’ve watched the ounces on the package tick down year after year. Think it used to be 5 ounces and every year they would reduce the product inside but not the packaging.
At some point they should just make the packaging smaller.
I'd be interested in the B.O. test. I've been a loyal speed stick user for years, but I find it doesn't always keep my pits dry. I buy it for the value, so if I only have to spend a little more for that perk I'd make the switch. Great vid!
Glad I clicked this video when it came up on reddit. I'd love to see that review comparing them. Also I wonder if speed stick is so different from the rest because it's just deodorant and not an antiperspirant..
Very helpful, friend, thank you.
Good on you keeping us informed
It's in larger packaging to make room for the full label, and to make it less likely to be stolen. Pretty common for many items.
hey, nice vid. Mostly just dropping a comment to boost numbers because I think you deserve it. well done video
What a cool video! I’d watch this sort of stuff all day!
You should go to all of the different fast food restaurants and order a small fry medium fry and a large fry and see what the difference is.
Excellent video, well done! For the future : please compare the weight of the plastic package with the content.
As demanded, here is me just leaving a fucking comment
I’ve also got a theory on another ploy of deception by deodorant companies:
Have you ever used a deodorant once and left it for a time frame and come back to it to find that 1/3 to a 1/2 of it has shrunk down? I have... maybe it was my roommates stealing my deodorant, maybe it’s shrinking.
Love to see a test on it, might just run it myself. I theorize that deodorant shrinks over time, evaporating within the packaging.
True! Much more noticeable with translucent deo sticks, yet some of the white antiperspirant sticks shrivel up over time as well. The old-school cooling deo sticks with a high alcohol content evaporated the quickest.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this video, i think its really important for companies to be honest, open and transparent and to not be deceptive to customers, and in this video you showed that even deodorant companies are dishonest to customers. But like I said awesome, good content and really interesting and informative video.
I like your channel the contant is good keep up the good work👍🏻
Hey thanks! always nice to hear that
That was fun to watch!
Do more deodorants! Dove (could even do one of each men's and women's), Degree, Suave, Gillette, Secret.
Also, include a table at the end listing the advertised weights and actual weights for easy comparison.
Otherwise great content, good job.
Nice content dude, but the follow up with the review would be sweet. + it ll make me smell better so double thumbs up if yea make it eventuele
Please do more of these! I want more consumer justice!
More of this! Give us the safest deodorant, conditioner, etc if you like!
Nice to know this information. Keep it up. You got a new subscriber.
I think the empty-space sellers should be ashamed of using so much plastic. It would be really great to have containers that fit the real amount of product.
I never thought that I’d watch a video on Deodorant...
I would be interested in you doing this for the expensive deodorants.
Good video. Nice explanation of packaging differences. Thanks for clarifying zeroing the scale. Good printed info cards.
Cutting open the Arm&Hammer package (you probably realized later, too bad you didn't state it) was unnecessary. Rather than total weight/size of the deodorant, I would like to have seen the weight/size of the "usable" portion. I've experienced that the plunger from different brands operates differently. A brand I used to use had a plunger that was arched, the same as the top of the sleeve, and smooth. You could practically use the entire product. That reality adds a layer to the "value" proposition. Also, for apples-to-apples, maybe stick with the same type (solid vs. gel) of product.
If you're going to do a "how well do they work" video, please include how much product you use. Some people do 1 or 2 swipes, others do a lot more. Also, if you felt that one brand/type required more product application than another for the same results - that would be interesting.
Best wishes for continued success.
Love this kind of videos, keep it up
Depending on the composition I could imagine that size constraints could help insure integrity of the stick itself
Fantastic video bro.... Thank you..... Good luck 👍
Very interesting and engaging video! 5/5 for accurate video title and amusing commentary.
Solid editing and unlike the deodorants...no fluff in this vid. Good job.
OMG Thank you so much for not perpetuating the myth that chips come with "free air".
Thank you so much for this video. It prompted me to check the brand in my bathroom cabinet (sadly not featured in this video) and discovered wasted space and packaging almost equal to that of Arm&Hammer. I have since switched to a different brand that has identical product weight, but the packaging in 33-50% less.
Lmao, that toothpaste analogy was hilarious.
good video, could have been a bit shorter by speeding up the dissections and providing a summary slide going over all the brands and the best and worst offenders. truth in branding and advertising is a very important topic, glad to see someone is doing it!
I would love to see how gel sticks stand up. I know it would be harder to squirt it all out but still important to know.
when you did the per ounce price on the labels were you using the true weight or the weight on the label?
Would love to see that follow up video.
Came from reddit. Nicely done. How was the rotation over the vaporwave background done?
We need more of these videos.
I did not expect to enjoy this video so much
Thank you for making me feel confident in my deodorant brand choice 💁🏼♂️
What do you use?
Great video. Please do more like this so we consumers know who is cheating us.
Doing the Lord's work!
Great video I'd love to see other lies in packaging videos
I'm actually interested in a follow-up video with reviews. A few of these have failed the 'working summers in the Mojave' test for me, so my current brand is expensive. I am all ears for a cheaper, well tested option.
