Lyrics:
People get ready
There's a train a-coming
You don't need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
You just thank the Lord
People get ready
For the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers
From coast to coast
Faith is the key
Open the doors and board them
There's room for all
Among the loved the most
There ain't no room
For the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just
To save his own
Have pity on those
Whose chances are thinner
Cause there's no hiding place
From the Kingdom's Throne
My dad and I are huge Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck fans. Recently, when he was ill and I was bringing him home from the VA in Portland, OR for cancer treatment, we were playing classic rock on the stereo in my car. When "People Get Ready" came on, he asked me if he could turn up the volume. I said, "Crank it, dad!" And, he played air guitar and I drove-danced all the way into Salem, and then we laughed and loved that time. He passed away 3 weeks ago. It's been a huge loss. But, I love that my dad and I rocked out to this song together. Happy memories forever.
I thank your father for his service,Nam vet my self
Good of you to share and sorry for your loss. God bless
Lovely!
Stephanie Keys oh my Goodness what a beautiful and loving story...
I’m sorry for your loss!! ✌️
Stephanie Keys precious
RIP Jeff, yours was a life so well lived. Thank you for being one of the best to ever pick up the instrument.
My heart is broken today
Well said!
agreed.
We miss his style, He was a master.
😭😭😭
When my husband was sick, he played this often on his guitar.
10 years on, I can finally listen to it, but not without tears.
Blessing to Mr. Beck and Mr. Stewart. You gave him comfort.
I'm afraid I knw that same feeling too well. I wish you well.
R.I.P. Mr Beck. You were one of the greats.
Yes he was
indeed..
One of Rod Stewart's finest moments. He and Jeff Beck got a super special bond. Godspeed Jeff, a virtuoso among virtuosos
Gift from God , Praise Jesus 🎚❤️🎶🙏‼️

@@markkeeler2343 So true so true ...Jesus would have wept hearing this one
Indeed!
Jeff Beck…. Definitely one of a kind. When you can recognize a guitarist by just a few notes, .. well, that’s a sign of greatness. R.I.P. 🙏
You said it
He made that baby sing 🎉🎉😢❤
For sure 👍🏻🙏🏻
Exactly right. We loved ya Jeff. Thank you. We'll miss you.
Top 5. You are worth everything you again.
As small as his British category was it not shreddy I'm miss him for a Amature long MIN😥 why was this not here. I kinda like Rod
Jeff was a guitar hero. Even Eric Clapton and Jimmy page said that he played better than they did. This version of this song is an amazing collaboration between Jeff and Rod Stewart as we’re all of their other collaborations.
Rod Stewart has an extremely beautiful voice. I love what he and Jeff Beck did to the song People Get Ready.
Jeff Beck one of the greatest Rock & Roll guitarists of all time, Rest In Paradise Jeff 💫
Just found out the great Jeff Beck has passed and this song rushed into my mind. What an absolute musical genius he was. What a loss for the music world 😞
You said it, such an amazing guitarist. This song hits so hard right now.
I did not know he had died until a radio station I was listening to last night dedicated this song to him. RIP, Jeff. You were the best!
This song always touches my heart and moves me emotionally to tears. When I heard of Jeff’s passing, I just had to come here and listen. He didn’t just play a guitar, he made it sing. We will miss you so much Jeff. Thank you for blessing us with your beautiful playing, your amazing presence, and unique style. You are truly missed. Rest In Peace.
Seeing Jeff was a lifetime goal I didn't accomplish until September when I saw him with ZZ Top at Dos Equis pavilion at the Texas State fairgrounds. He played an otherworldly because we've ended and a dead solid big block. When I heard about his passing I threw a shameless drunk and cried for hours playing Truth, beckola, blow by blow, and with the Jan Hammer Group live. Between the legendary Christine Perfect's passing and Jeff's these beloved brit rock stars are gonna be the death of me. :-(
Seguramente desde el cielo ésa guitarra sonara mejor gracias jeff pir hacer hablar ésa guitarra
This song should make you cry 😢 love ❤️ it

It seemed like every time I turned on MTV this song was on. A few years later, I was driving home, drunk, way too fast. My car jumped out of gear. Just then 5 deer ran in front of me. I would have hit them, if my car did not pop out of gear. I said out loud, wow, there really is a God. I instantly was sober. I gave my life to Him, right there, on the side of the road. Best choice ever!
You gave me chills with your story! God bless you all!!!
Great testimony.♥️

That's Rock N Roll! Praise YHWH.!
Great memories from the 80's !
I was 12 or 13 years old when I was introduced to this song by my cousins. Now at the age of 38 , I sadly got the news of Jeff Beck's passing. Thus I come here to humbly pay my tribute!
From São, Paulo Brazil - Rest in peace 🙏
My brother passed away early Saturday morning and I dedicate this to him and everyone who's lost a loved one !
sorry for your loss, paul. and now we all have lost someone, too, jeff beck. how strange to be here this way. take good care.
I'm so sorry man, RIP to your bro and Jeff, stay strong 🙏
🙏🏻
So sorry for your loss. Great tune to remember him by.
Wish my generation could make music like this. You can hear his soul crying out to the father! PRAISE YESHUA!!
I'm not sure that there'll ever be a better version of this song than what Jeff and Rod combined their efforts and talents to make 😮😊 😅😢😂❤😂😊❤😊❤
Oh yeah, there is... ...Curtis Mayfield
This version is truly fantastic another beautiful version is Crystal Lewis People get Ready
Not luke this one!
Curtis Mayfield wrote and sung this song, he's one of the greatest song writers in his time. He had a unique voice too, like Rod. In fact I like both versions.
@fhl1369 Curtis Mayfield too.
RIP Jeff Beck. One of the 5 best guitar players ever.
Well that's debatable but he's definitely one of the greats
@@koolkitties8552 Everything's debatable. But in many people's eyes in the business, he is and has been for a very long time. Since you wanted to enter the conversation though, if you're saying he's not in the top 5, who do you think is? Curious.
Top 3... Hendrix, SRV and Jeff Beck
Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Vaughn, Beck. The order of that is debatable after Hendrix I think. Much like beauty though, it's in the eye of the beholder.
I would definitely include EVH somewhere in that group and Mick Taylor was an absolutely sublime on guitar for the Stones circa ‘69-‘74. Mark Knoppfler too.
Just heard Jeff Beck passed, thought listening to this song to celebrate his work and life. What a huge influence he has had on music. He will be missed. RIP

Jeff has boarded the train. God bless him and may he rest in peace. Say hello to Jimi, Jeff.
I'm not a religious person but this song inspires me to want to believe in something bigger and better! I'm getting ready.
The person it is about is Jesus Christ. Only in Him is there salvation. Simply have faith in Jesus, repent of your sin and turn to Him and believe in Jesus. Beautiful song.
I'm agnostic, but this song gives me chills. Love the way they did it. Perfect.
I was agnostic for a very long time and then became atheist , however , this song I couod listen to on repeat , no 2 other musicians could have EVER pulled this song off and made its way up the charts in a time where Metal and hard rock RULED the world of music , and these 2 power houses made a song of faith hit every teenager and adolescent stop dead in their tracks and sing and just literally FEEL what faith is !! Faith is not always about religion , it’s def what comes to mind first , but to each is own ,whatever gets you thru no matter what your belief is , go with it !!!! Jeff Beck is one of the most under rated guitarist in my opinion , he literally can make it sing and cry and everything in between , and combonit with rods voice ??? It’s a wrap !!!! Wonderfully done ! It’s as good as I remembered it way back in my young teenage years !! Kudos to them !! Such good memories !!
I'm only 13 years old and my father has taught me these GREAT songs. I have been listening to these types of songs since I was about 3 or 4 I have found these songs so much more better then today's music
Hope you boarded that train Jeff . . . and Heaven is filled with your gift of music!
His presence as one of the greatest guitarists of all time cannot be underestimated. A HUGE loss. RIP Mr Beck. Condolences to his family and friends
One of the most beautiful songs of faith ever written.
It was written by Curtis Mayfield
written.....................................and performed........
Yes it is! It was written by Curtis mayfield.
I have no belief in any deity of any belief. I’m a non believer, but good music is good music. Beck and Stewart are pretty much without peers. Elton John says Rod Stewart has the best rock voice. The only way to describe Beck is, well, Beck is Beck.
Faith is the key like the song says. All you gotta do is love and Believe. Be ready. Your dad will be waiting for you. Love you too. The best is yet to come.
Jeff definitely, one of the greatest guitarists! Rod's voice!!! One of the best!
One of the simplest yet the greatest guitar solos of the 80s! ❤ RIP
Had no idea it was Rod Stewart who recommended Beck take up the guitar professionally. Best advice ever.
That's hilarious - gosh I hope you're just trolling - ROFL😁
Jeff Beck was the boss of Rod
I love this song and video for many reasons. This song hits different today. Rest in Peace Jeff Beck. 🎸🕯️🕊️
Yes it truly does. RIP Jeff 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I agree
Definitely.
Rod always said," With my voice and Jeff's guitar it was magic." He sure was right!!!
So people get ready....a train a coming....hallelujah....just thank the Lord ❤
Beautiful Song from the best Egland had awesome song the trains coming ...

@bubbajames7920 This song was written and sung by Curtis Mayfield, an American.
The combination like Robert and Jimmy and Kenny G. And Michael B.
What a powerhouse duet version of an old gospel song 😊😅😮😢😂❤😂😊❤😊❤
RIP Jeff. Your guitar in this song is just amazing. Sounds like your heart and soul are in it. Love it!
Forgot how much I loved this song. Rod at his best and Jeff’s virtuosity on full display. Never played a bad note. RIP Jeff Beck
Jeff was one of the best guitarists I always enjoy music..It brings peace.🙏🙏🙏🙏
The way Rod's voice plays off Jeff's amazing playing, just incredible
RIP Jeff, you will be missed
Jeff Beck just kills it on the guitar 🎸
A major league yes
Yes he does!
Jeff Beck is killing that guitar.
My god he’s got soul in those fingers
Beautiful!
One of the greatest song performances in the history of the universe! It brings tears to my eyes
The guitar work on this is absolutely phenomenal.
I am so blessed to have grown up during a period where musicians like Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck came into their own. This music beats pretty much anything being produced today.
Sure but this is not being sold anymore
how would you know??? there's millions of songs being released every year. bit silly to think that people can't make great music anymore.
@@crieverytim 👎👎👎
@@crieverytim .....Really honk! you tell me who has written and played one song as good as the guy who wrote this one in the last 20 years. In fact from you're comment i know for a fact that you will have to google who wrote it. There is a sound/franchise of songs which have been seriously popular for a lot of years, the writers of those songs relying on the minor key. You have not a clue who they are, you have not a clue who writes in a minor key nowadays, you don't even know what a minor key is. You come back when you can name a better arrangement from the millions of songs you mention than this one. Tell me what arrangement means. People we will never hear from Honk again.....he is a fool!

This clip is a masterpiece! Rod and Jeff make a great team! Beautiful to see Rod's affection toward him. Jeff's guitar touches us deeply.

I just found this old song again, it brought me tears, I'm past drugs, alcohol and prison for 20 years, jesus has saved my life thru God, there is no two ways about it, you don't have to understand it, you just have to believe
Amen! That's awesome!! Praise the Lord! God bless you and Carry on!
Your rehab came from your own inner strength and belief in yourself. No disrespect, But Good had nothing to do with it. Give yourself some credit and respect for what you achieved. Your a fighter who claimed a mountain -- good in you.
Amen brother-I believe!
Amen, so happy for you, Brother in Christ, keep strong
@Dan Freiday
Amen and Thank God your still alive today. I believe in God for he most assuredly performs miracles. I have seen it myself. He saved my Mom’s life. When she had an Inner Cranial Aneurysm (an explosion of 3 major blood vessels in the Rt. side of her head) and I had a Massive Frontal Lobe Brain Tumor surgery in 2000. I am truly blessed and grateful to be living today. All I can say is Praise God! 😊✝️❤️
This was my first 12" maxi single. I was 12 years old and Rod Stewart was one of my idols at the time. But it wasn't Rod who stunned me. It was the guitar. It was Jeff Beck. I had never heard anyone play guitar like that before. It felt like being on a sunny cloud.
RIP Jeff
Gosh they were both on their game that day. And such a great song on a day like today. Prayers to JB, and family
The beauty of this performance always brings tears to my eyes.
This is by far one of the best versions of this song. Hate to speak or type the truth but Rod Stewart did this song justice.
I still don't believe Jeff's gone today at 78. I can't stop sobbing after I found this and started to listen. Rest in Peace, Jeff.
I hear truth beckola 2 days ago!!! No,no don't believe😭😭😭 most master guitar ever. Italian' fan cry ,no,no,no Maestro JEFF don't believe!!!!!
Let pray that time heals
I feel as you & this is absolutely beautiful & beguiling
I remember when this song came out and thinking, what an awesome version. They look young and had to check when it came out, 1985 Jeff was in his early 40s. Now that he's gone all we have is what's left behind. To never hear him play again saddens me. when he did surface from under one of his hot rods he was better then the last time I heard him play. Always pushing the envelope. Even though it's a music video, you see the joy and love Rod and Jeff had for each other . Still can't believe he's gone. RIP Jeff, thanks for bringing your music to so many especially me.

There's a few songs that makes me cry and this is definitely one of them.
Rod Stewart's vocals and Jeff Beck's electric guitar riffs Are SERIOUS!!! This song reminds me of the sadness and despair on the faces of the homeless people of Boston!
Sleeping on dirty cardboard, in the closed-down doorways and abandoned businesses of Downtown Crossing. I know when that "train" is boarding....They'll be sitting up front!
Stevie Ray, Mark K and Jeff even early eighties Santana all had the "Bells ringing" sound in their guitars... LOVE ME SOME 80's Rock

65 ain’t old. But I’m hip. 😉
Yes me too and I'm 57 years old
I'm 67 soon to be 68.I'm still hip.Wife still yells for me to"Turn that damn thing down!"
You can take a man away from "the sound" but you can never take the sound out of the man. Those incredible sounds that we were so privileged to hear when we were young will be with us to the end. RIP Jeff Beck, praise for Sir Rod Stewart. No two could have done it better.
I'm 67 and I agree.
Fly high Jeff,,,, 😢
I remember when this video came out in 1985, I was never a big fan of Rod Stewart but he never sounded better and Jeff's strong heartfelt playing is perfect. I like all the scenes with the "commom people", it just fits. IMO this is the best version of People Get Ready, RIP Jeff.
Same here. A big fan of Jeff way back from the Yardbirds era but not a fan of Rod. But man, this song just latched on to me from the first time I heard it. Love the video too.
Cool that they filmed it in sepia to give it an old timey feeling.
This is a Gospel song. “Blessed are the meek” if ya know you know.

Chambers Brothers sang it
It originally debuted in 1965, and was written by Curtis Mayfield. Although it is a nice cover by Stewart and the late great guitarist John Beck.

Well, here we are, Jeff has left us,, we listen now once again to our hero been with us all the way there & back, like a flash, telling the truth, with his Boleto, with his Tele, with his life he showed us how it done a righteous way so indeed he done us right the whole way,, got us ready to see him rise to see Jimi & all the others like BB. So yes, we now having to have to face the coming days without our angle of the guitar, we've now been delt our decks, it's what we hold inside as our gathered memories that show that Jeff left a return ticket for all of us in total opus count. God Bless you Jeff & your Wife & Daughter, we here still hear you from the heavens above. Thank you for taking my comment.
