130k on a 2013 GTI, manual, tuned. No issues except paint chips and one minor leak at 100k that was an easy fix. Just don’t change the oil at 10k like they say, every 5k, and let things warm up and cool down…
I don't trust anybody's warranty. It's basically a promise from the guy who made your car that he'll fix the car (at no extra charge) that wasn't built correctly in the first place because they were trying to make as much profit as possible. Not the best foundation for a great relationship.
Well there's more to repair of a vehicle than the cost, there's also YOUR time and effort taking/towing your vehicle for repair, especially if the dealership is not within a convenient distance from your home or workplace. Real question is, is it worth your time and aggravation to deal with a problem vehicle, even under full warranty?
The warranty is only good till 100 thousand miles. Most people will put that mileage on in 7 years. Right after the 100 thousand mile is when it will start breaking down. If a car can't make it to 100 thousand without a extended warranty you should walkway.
Well, there are bigger problems than this. 1) while the car is under repair, you need another vehicle to get around in (unless it's specifically stated in the agreement), so if it's a big job that takes weeks, you're car-less for that time. and 2) oftentimes, they use refurbished engine/tranny components to fix cars under warranty, so that's another possible problem.
Call me frugal or practical or cheap or whatever but as far as a new car I would have bought a Mitsubishi Mirage G4, already comes with a 10 year/100k mile warranty on the powertrain, no extra charge and the car costs $17k new. Of course it's no performance car, in fact it's a lot like driving a sewing machine. But it sips gas and at my age I'm not in a hurry to get 6 feet under anyway.
Factory warranties are the best, to be honest; they come with the car. Many vehicles, particularly luxury ones, are equipped with high-tech components like sensors and cameras, which are susceptible to malfunction over time. If something breaks, it can be costly to repair or fix. That's why we get a warranty. But if you're getting a non-luxury car, such as a Toyota, Ford or something along those lines, then warranties are not really necessary. It all depends on the type of vehicle manufacturer, the car's caliber, and whether it is luxury or non-luxury. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillacs, and Tesla are more than likely going to need a warranty for these cars because they are heavily dependent on the dealer's technicians.
72 super beetle new 2400 Canadian. Great little car. Super in snow. Easy to work on. Also haad a beater ghia,, a 411 or 417 station wagony thing 25.00, a 92 golf gti and a 94 jetta. No complaints. Learned to do brakes, cluches, timing belts, seals, heater core in jetta (not fun), suspension. All doable at home.
Mine only had heat if you reved the engine if you weren't moving.(in traffic). There were heat tube's that crumbled and heat channels that rusted holes over time. I always had an ice scraper for the inside of the windshield as it would frost over from people breathing. It was great in the snow, and seemed like you could fix any problem for $10 and a 13 mm wrench.
Hey Scotty! 2018 GTI with the same engine, EA888 Gen3/Revision3. No oil burning, I change my oil every 4-4.5K miles, tranny oil every 40k, sparks every 30k along with all other ancillary maintenance. No issues so far and runs like when I got it new! Oh.. and mine is also made in Mexico! 75k miles so far.
Sounds sweet; that must be fun to drive. Keep taking care of it and I’m sure it’ll last. I had made a comment about my VW burning oil, but it’s also 24 yrs old with over 200k and otherwise runs great. ‘Made’ really means assembled. Every OEM part I’ve replaced was stamped made in either Germany, Poland, or Ukraine.
It is scotty kilmer he tends to make stuff up to proove a point that doesnt exist. And yes the gen3 ea888 is very reliable and takes 330hp in golf r so 228 in a jetta gli isnt much for such a durable engine
If they start breaking after 10 years then I must’ve gotten lucky with my Jetta. Mines a 2014 Jetta SE with a 1.8 L turbo four-cylinder, attached to a six speed automatic. And I’ve had zero issues with it. And the cherry on top is, I’ve only changed engine oil. Never change, brake fluid, power, steering fluid, coolant, or transmission fluid. And never had a problem.
VW's are designed for a northern European climate. They are brilliant in the environment and last for years. I for one have never had a problem with German cars.
You're talking the Big three brands and the People who own those Cars, Most of the big three are Definitely Not American made, The last time I checked the Ford Ranger was the Most American made and Hardly Nobody even owns them, Personally I like our American made Ridgeline with a German 9sp ZF transmission such Smooth Shifting transmission and ride.😁
From The Netherlands I can say that my '08 GTI mk5 manual transmission is still running strong. It has 196500 km (123000 miles) on it and no big issues besides a new battery 😂 And changing the oil every year😉👌
Also you Europeans don’t drive everywhere like Americans have too. So your arent putting 100,000 miles on your cars in 4-5 years. So yeah they would be more reliable.
same, 135K here! stage 1 tuned never had a big issue. Just make sure you do your timing, tranny oil, and carbon cleaning. take care of it and it will take care of you
I got a Jetta GLI 2017 , manual , with 122k miles on it and 0 issues , I had a Camry before and I had issues all the time with the transmission, I’m thinking about buying a brand new GLI , I love my VW

My 08 Passat 2.0T 190k just broke down today. Broken timing belt. Throughout the years it’s just been nothing but little annoying issues but as far as im concerned the drivetrain itself was dead reliable up until this point. As long as all fluids are topped off regularly and all maintenance performed on time you should be golden. Besides, most if not all modern cars are made cheaper these days.
I bought an automatic 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn trim model at the end of April that looks almost identical to this one. I went from a rusting Pontiac G6 from 2008 to this, my first VW and it was definitely something to get used to. So much tech and modern conveniences with this model and honestly, I absolutely love mine so far. Yes, I'm aware maintenance and repairs won't be cheap but as said in the video, it's super nice to drive and comfortable. I will definitely be getting new tires come winter though. The stock ones are rather poor. Appreciate the take on the car, in any case. Thanks for the video, Scotty.
I got 114k miles on my 2016 Jetta. No problems either! I love it, and the 1.4 tsi has been great. I’m getting ready for my second a/t fluid change and replacing my timing belt, just in case.
I had mine 274000 km 2 clutches, brakes front disc 1x change. Good maintenance, turbo was on his last breath i sold it. But i can say it was a good car. Alot of room but bad quality doors. Handeling very good
i had a 2019 Jetta GLI, no issues. I never drove off without letting it warm up and even had a stage 1 tune by Unitronic and it did not burn oil after the tune. I traded it in for a 2023 GTI, it also has a Unitronic stage 1 tune and no issues not even buring oil. I change oil after 5k miles.

Furthermore since Corollas are in low supply and high demand, many dealerships have markup and forced pre-installed accessories on it. Here in Dallas, the cheapest Corolla is 25k which ends up being 27k out the door.
I've got a 2018 VW Tiguan with the 2.0L TSI EA888 Gen3 B-Cycle engine that has only 31,000 miles on the odometer. No oil issues, thankfully. Oil is changed every six months any way using LiquiMoly.
2008 - 2013 VAG 2.0T engines have issues with the timing chains and piston rings (the reason for the oil consumption). Other than that they are really good and reliable cars. Just take care of your car and keep up with maintenance. That's it. I've been working on these cars, and they're reliable as long as you take care of it. Im Audi master certified, in case you're wondering.
@eloyalvarado Can you tell me the importance of the radiator sensor? I'd imagine Audis use them too. Ive done some looking and I cant really get a solid answer other than replace the whole radiator or splice a new sensor in with a specific Mercedes one
As a multi VW owner I can say the 2.5 engine is fantastic, the brm tdi is fantastic, the cjaa tdi is also fantastic. I do like vw once you understand vw you'll be fine. My 12 tdi cjaa 6 speed gets 54mpg and i only do basic maintenance. The one thing that irritates me is timing belts and the a/c compressor valve that fail. I have complete faith in VW engines. I'm going to go to a VW jetta gaser Auto trans this time .
I’ve owned that 2.5 and I echo that 100%. Don’t sleep on the timing chain service… When you get your new one, just don’t get a mk4/mk5 era auto. They are junk (surprisingly made in Japan - usually Japanese trans are great). The Audi made 5speed box on those old cars will outlast the roaches…. I have 3 1.8ts now with the common timing belt water pump but if you are on maintenance (which even a gorilla like me figured out how to do at home) then they are great engines. I replaced all coolant flanges with metal and my water pump has a metal impeller (Meyle HD). Zero issues.
It could be something like a defective PCV, and not necessarily an internal engine problem like rings. My 2017 GTI with the same engine uses no oil at 57k.
MK7 Golf R from 2016 here, manual, tuned, a few hardware upgrades, and still takin a beating from me. Do ya googles and your own maintenance, and youll be fine..
2015 GTI here, 187k miles. My PLASTIC intake manifold is dtill holding 32 psi of boost through an EQT vortex XL hybrid turbo. I'm full bolt ons on e85 with multiport injection and thr only issue I've had was my water pump cracked 2x. I drive over 200 miles a day
I have Vento, 8.5 years old, 187421KM in the meter.. No issues yet, none..still working great and no issues.. Only once front suspension set was changed, and some other small stuff but not a single rattle,or anything..
These EA888 have been in the market for about 15 years and are pretty reliable now. Reliability wise, It’s better spend a little extra for a GLi than getting a 1.5.

2019 GLI Autobahn here I bought with 53000 on the clock I’m at a year and 63000 miles and no issues other than a broken sunglass holder. The dealer I bought it from replaced the water pump during the dealer service at 53k miles. This car is the perfect balance of fun and daily driver. It gets phenomenal gas mileage for the performance it offers and really can not be beaten for the price. Favorite car I’ve owned. Went from a focus st and this car is almost as much fun on a back road and a much better car in day to day life.
@@davidanderson8469ya not much but at 9 years old and no electronic failures or anything it’s not too bad. 100% of the mileage is in the city as well. And half the year I’m cold starting it under-20C (Canada).
A great warranty never makes up for poor quality. No one loves having to bring their car into the dealer for the umpteenth time because the car is a POS.
All brand new engines will burn oil in the first 10,000 MI now that the EPA is requiring higher miles per gallon manufacturers have to switch the piston rings to low friction piston rings which allows more oil to be burned in the combustion chamber but seeing how Scotty is such a professional and noses stuff he probably forgot to mention that in this video
110k on my 2016 Golf Sportwagen 1.8TSI (turbo 1.8) and zero issues. If you keep the maintenance up on them and change the oil every 5k or less you should be golden.
Made in Mexico that's why.. My 2012 GTI made in Germany bought it at 75,000 miles and has 113,000 now still runs like a champion. Mind you the clearcoat peeling off on the roof couple of clearcoat bubbles on the hood and rear bumper is going to cost a pretty penny to fix, but all I've had to do is get the oil changed, set of tires and rotation and some little things filters and what not. *knocks on wood*
@@nicksttrs It's not just because it's made in Mexico, it's because it has to be cheap to sell and profit, Scotty said that too. Also, turbo is great, but the engine will wear faster, that's obvious. My Mazda3 2018 is also assembled in Mexico, and I've had 0 problems with the engine, it already has 48,310 miles on it. Major fixes until now: timing belt replacement, new tires, new back brake rotors, 2 front struts. Timing belt and the struts were covered under warranty. I drive that thing "spirited" with sport mode activated 90% of the time.
I’m still sitting happy with my 2015 mini cooper s. Picked it up certified pre owned in 2018 with 15k miles for 17 out the door. Absolutely zero problems with the thing besides when people laugh at me when getting out of it👍
I've owned Volkswagens for almost 30 years. Mostly GTis, and the reason I own them is because they are unbreakable. I currently have a tuned Mk6 GTI with over 140 clicks, and the only thing I've replaced that wasn't maintenance parts was a $147.00 intake manifold that was a CARB part that had an emissions valve that blew out..only because it's tuned mind you. And that happened at around the 90k mark. Replaced with the updates Audi intake manifold and still running strong.
I’ve got a ‘16 CC that I absolutely love. It’s in the shop right now for engine/transmission mounts, alternator, and rear brake pads… $3769. It has 123k miles and this is the only thing I’ve had to do to it. Breathtakingly awesome car. Very best car I’ve ever had/driven.
@@melancholypuppy3595 It’s certainly not a small amount, but it is four mounts, an alternator, and brakes. So it’s not exactly a small amount of work either.
@@melancholypuppy3595 doing just the alternator would have been $900, $2,600 for the mounts and brakes, then tax. Certainly sucks having to pay that much, but it also has 123k miles on it and this is the first real repair cost I’ve ever had with it. And aside from that, it’s an absolute joy to drive. Scotty wasn’t kidding about the steering, it’s absolutely phenomenal and it certainly zips lol.
I own a 2020 model, 30k miles so far and no repairs needed. At 30k miles, I don't expect any repairs needed either. These should be mostly reliable. It's a crap shoot with the water pump though. Some go 100k miles on the original pump, some only make it to 20k...
My Volkswagen story: I bought an ‘85 GTi brand new…back then they were made in Pennsylvania and I drove that thing until 1999 with a 176k on it. Had two major issues - the heater core went out around 1990 (don’t remember the mileage) and the transmission went out at 156k on a move from Colorado to California - had to tow it back to Salt Lake City and a local V-dub shop dropped a used tranny in it - I flew back from San Jose to SLC to pick it up when the work was done. Other than an oxygen sensor, it was all oil changes and tire rotations. Every time I washed it I had to break out a phillips head and tighten down all the interior trim pieces.
my 2019 S model got 68k miles and only had to do oil changes cabin engine filter swaps a coolant flush and brake pads and disks replacement andddd soon the serpentine belt but this car has given me ZERO serious problems
They save lives the one reason I like vw I was tboned at 55 mph I walked away without a scratch bruise or break, so vw may be expensive to send in for work but cheap to work on yourself just a complete pain to work on.
I’m happy with my fourth golf 2015 tdi is like new no problems at all previous were diesel 332,000 km ,next one 280,000 km reason for changed ,wrecked in the ice road , both . My car has rust proof guaranteed until 2025 .not even a light bulb had to replace yet.just changed brakes after almost 9 years.
I owned several VW's and most were pretty decent cars, but I never owned one that was made in Mexico. Every one I owned was made in Germany where the quality was decent IMO. My favorite one was my 1978 Rabbit Diesel with a whopping 48 HP engine. Wasn't very fast but it got 55 MPG on the highway.
Louder than Hell, too, but mine was at least ten years old when I bought it. Reeked of cigarette smoke. Poured coffee grounds all in it and hotboxed that for a couple of days. Gas was just under a buck and I could drive forever. Loved that thing!
I have a 7 year old honda CRV and have never added oil except at the oil changes. No other issues except for a recall on the shift lever but honda replaced for free.
I watched a lot of videos from Scotty, and he ripped apart every car associated with every brand. Yet he hadn’t really said much about the regular Jetta. So he loves them, but won’t admit it outright

I remember the old Jettas when they were the boxy bodies in the 90's. My old neighbor had the Corrado, and that was a great car. He told me that VW made some of the best clutches for a standard transmission.
Scotty, the parts for VW Jetta are made in the U.S, and the engineering comes from Germany. So Scotty, unless you can show evidence that it is due to assembly, you should keep your opinion to yourself. After all, you have some influence due to your channel
I have a 2003 vw wolfsburg with about 240k miles on it and running strong.Still have original clutch and no check light. Its alson chiped and modified. They are reliable only if u MAINTAIN THEM.
Own a 2018 Jetta Wolfsburg 5 speed manual. Just over 54,000 miles. New tires(Vredestein-amazing) and regular oil changes. That's it. Plus around 40 mpg.
Vredestein tires are amazing. Just put them on our ‘13 Tiguan. They replaced Bridgestones and the difference in quietness and handling is like night and day.

2018 Golf AllTrack and zero issues so far. 2016 egolf and so far we have never taken it in for service and it costs $15 bucks a month to run. So we are quite happy with both vehicles.
2015 Audi A3 and 2018 Audi TTRS. I've had a couple recalls on the A3, but that's it. They've been as solid as our Toyota so far (which has also had a couple of recalls). Just do the scheduled maintenance. Neither of mine burn oil.
I’ve had 2. A 11 Jetta TDI and a 17 Passat. Not a problem with either. No oil burning, GREAT mileage and handling and not hard on the eyes. Honestly, I’d buy another without question. Farfignugen Baby!
I bought a brand new Jetta in 2018 because it was $19,000 at 0.99% interest. They’re just fun to drive. I admit I bought the warranty, too, lol. I’ve had no mechanical issues in six years, though. It was even simpler, though - 5 speed manual and no push button start, minimal tech. That said, the touchscreen can be a pain.
Worst roads in North America are in Quebec. Uneven pavement, ripples on the road surface, potholes that can be wide and deep, and poor to no road markings as the woke transport dept uses water borne eco paint that has a life of 6-12 months
They burn oil new... For sure. Have a 2014 purchased new, so 11 years old this year. 125k miles. Replaced pcv valve at 90k for $100. 1 brake calipur... and brakes rear at 100k and front at 120k. That's it... even with all those plastic parts. Have the 1.8 litre turbo.
I've owned Benz's, BMW's, and VWs...And out of the three...The VW was always the 50/50 chance that something catastrophic would break. Never had issues with those on my Benz's and I had the S-Class, C-class, along with plenty of 3-5 series too many to name. Never once had issues with the former, despite what some people might spew on here. I'm glad VW has finally taken the steps to work on their reliability issues! I might consider it.
That was Honda's issue with oil dilution on the 1.5 GDI turbo engine .....but instead of oil leaking past the rings & being burnt, fuel leaked past the rings & into the oil 😬
In Europe, by far the most billions of kilometers are driven annually by cars from the VW group. All companies, state services, taxis, rental companies, private buyers and other owners of vehicles that exceed the maximum number of kilometers per year. And Japanese cars and other brands of vehicles are bought by less demanding drivers with much fewer kilometers, pensioners, a second car in the family for occasional driving, etc.

I’m a vw tech these engines are very reliable don’t see many engine go out or turbos burning oil is not usally and issue on the newer engines post 2015 older version of this engine burns oil but not the evo3 tiguans do have oil burning issue but very rare cause by bad valve stem seals

I have 120,000 miles on my mk7 gti. No extra warranty, bought it in 2015. Stock motor with performance parts and tune on it. Runs great still!
Same! I just rolled over 100k last month. Had it since 40k miles. It's honestly best bang for the buck as a very fun "family" car.
Bought mine a few years ago, my third vw! Nothing but reliability from them for years. Put lots of miles on all of them!

Call me frugal or practical or cheap or whatever but as far as a new car I would have bought a Mitsubishi Mirage G4, already comes with a 10 year/100k mile warranty on the powertrain, no extra charge and the car costs $17k new. Of course it's no performance car, in fact it's a lot like driving a sewing machine. But it sips gas and at my age I'm not in a hurry to get 6 feet under anyway.
Factory warranties are the best, to be honest; they come with the car. Many vehicles, particularly luxury ones, are equipped with high-tech components like sensors and cameras, which are susceptible to malfunction over time. If something breaks, it can be costly to repair or fix. That's why we get a warranty. But if you're getting a non-luxury car, such as a Toyota, Ford or something along those lines, then warranties are not really necessary. It all depends on the type of vehicle manufacturer, the car's caliber, and whether it is luxury or non-luxury. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillacs, and Tesla are more than likely going to need a warranty for these cars because they are heavily dependent on the dealer's technicians.

My first car was a Beetle. No radio, questionable heat, windshield washer was powered by the spare tire, and hand- crank windows. It was the greatest.

72 super beetle new 2400 Canadian. Great little car. Super in snow. Easy to work on. Also haad a beater ghia,, a 411 or 417 station wagony thing 25.00, a 92 golf gti and a 94 jetta. No complaints. Learned to do brakes, cluches, timing belts, seals, heater core in jetta (not fun), suspension. All doable at home.
My Karhman Ghias engine blew shortly after I bought it, my dad rebuilt it for me, I got it painted, and then I rolled it off a hillside road.
Mine only had heat if you reved the engine if you weren't moving.(in traffic). There were heat tube's that crumbled and heat channels that rusted holes over time. I always had an ice scraper for the inside of the windshield as it would frost over from people breathing. It was great in the snow, and seemed like you could fix any problem for $10 and a 13 mm wrench.

Hey Scotty! 2018 GTI with the same engine, EA888 Gen3/Revision3. No oil burning, I change my oil every 4-4.5K miles, tranny oil every 40k, sparks every 30k along with all other ancillary maintenance. No issues so far and runs like when I got it new! Oh.. and mine is also made in Mexico! 75k miles so far.

I had made a comment about my VW burning oil, but it’s also 24 yrs old with over 200k and otherwise runs great. ‘Made’ really means assembled. Every OEM part I’ve replaced was stamped made in either Germany, Poland, or Ukraine.

If they start breaking after 10 years then I must’ve gotten lucky with my Jetta. Mines a 2014 Jetta SE with a 1.8 L turbo four-cylinder, attached to a six speed automatic. And I’ve had zero issues with it.
And the cherry on top is, I’ve only changed engine oil. Never change, brake fluid, power, steering fluid, coolant, or transmission fluid. And never had a problem.
You should change your transmission fluid and others to make it last!
VW's are designed for a northern European climate. They are brilliant in the environment and last for years. I for one have never had a problem with German cars.

From The Netherlands I can say that my '08 GTI mk5 manual transmission is still running strong. It has 196500 km (123000 miles) on it and no big issues besides a new battery 😂 And changing the oil every year😉👌
Also you Europeans don’t drive everywhere like Americans have too. So your arent putting 100,000 miles on your cars in 4-5 years. So yeah they would be more reliable.
I have 124k miles on my 1.8t tuned 2016 Jetta. Never had any issues and have always been on top of maintenance. Great little cars!
same, 135K here! stage 1 tuned never had a big issue. Just make sure you do your timing, tranny oil, and carbon cleaning.

My 08 Passat 2.0T 190k just broke down today. Broken timing belt. Throughout the years it’s just been nothing but little annoying issues but as far as im concerned the drivetrain itself was dead reliable up until this point. As long as all fluids are topped off regularly and all maintenance performed on time you should be golden. Besides, most if not all modern cars are made cheaper these days.
New cars shouldnt burn oil at 6k miles, that’s kinda nuts.
Our truck at work are even worse the 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, we had one had a engine blew up.

I bought an automatic 2024 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn trim model at the end of April that looks almost identical to this one.
I went from a rusting Pontiac G6 from 2008 to this, my first VW and it was definitely something to get used to. So much tech and modern conveniences with this model and honestly, I absolutely love mine so far.
Yes, I'm aware maintenance and repairs won't be cheap but as said in the video, it's super nice to drive and comfortable. I will definitely be getting new tires come winter though. The stock ones are rather poor.

I got 114k miles on my 2016 Jetta. No problems either! I love it, and the 1.4 tsi has been great. I’m getting ready for my second a/t fluid change and replacing my timing belt, just in case.

I had mine 274000 km 2 clutches, brakes front disc 1x change. Good maintenance, turbo was on his last breath i sold it. But i can say it was a good car. Alot of room but bad quality doors. Handeling very good
i had a 2019 Jetta GLI, no issues. I never drove off without letting it warm up and even had a stage 1 tune by Unitronic and it did not burn oil after the tune. I traded it in for a 2023 GTI, it also has a Unitronic stage 1 tune and no issues not even buring oil. I change oil after 5k miles.

I've got a 2018 VW Tiguan with the 2.0L TSI EA888 Gen3 B-Cycle engine that has only 31,000 miles on the odometer. No oil issues, thankfully. Oil is changed every six months any way using LiquiMoly.
Got to maintain them. Use only 508 approved oil and change it at 5K intervals.
2008 - 2013 VAG 2.0T engines have issues with the timing chains and piston rings (the reason for the oil consumption). Other than that they are really good and reliable cars. Just take care of your car and keep up with maintenance. That's it. I've been working on these cars, and they're reliable as long as you take care of it. Im Audi master certified, in case you're wondering.

As a multi VW owner I can say the 2.5 engine is fantastic, the brm tdi is fantastic, the cjaa tdi is also fantastic. I do like vw once you understand vw you'll be fine. My 12 tdi cjaa 6 speed gets 54mpg and i only do basic maintenance. The one thing that irritates me is timing belts and the a/c compressor valve that fail. I have complete faith in VW engines. I'm going to go to a VW jetta gaser Auto trans this time .

When you get your new one, just don’t get a mk4/mk5 era auto. They are junk (surprisingly made in Japan - usually Japanese trans are great). The Audi made 5speed box on those old cars will outlast the roaches….
I have 3 1.8ts now with the common timing belt water pump but if you are on maintenance (which even a gorilla like me figured out how to do at home) then they are great engines. I replaced all coolant flanges with metal and my water pump has a metal impeller (Meyle HD). Zero issues.

Even new toyotas burn oil, due to super thin 0w8/16 oils plus thin internals for lesser friction and thus better fuel economy.
It could be something like a defective PCV, and not necessarily an internal engine problem like rings. My 2017 GTI with the same engine uses no oil at 57k.

2015 GTI here, 187k miles. My PLASTIC intake manifold is dtill holding 32 psi of boost through an EQT vortex XL hybrid turbo. I'm full bolt ons on e85 with multiport injection and thr only issue I've had was my water pump cracked 2x. I drive over 200 miles a day

I have Vento, 8.5 years old, 187421KM in the meter.. No issues yet, none..still working great and no issues.. Only once front suspension set was changed, and some other small stuff but not a single rattle,or anything..
Being without a vehicle due to warranty claims can give you some serious headaches. Ask Kia owners when that plastic turbo pipes crack
2016 GTI automatic. 145,000 miles. ECU tune for 100,00 miles. Drive it hard and it's only asked the basics. BEST VW generation.
These EA888 have been in the market for about 15 years and are pretty reliable now. Reliability wise, It’s better spend a little extra for a GLi than getting a 1.5.

2019 GLI Autobahn here I bought with 53000 on the clock I’m at a year and 63000 miles and no issues other than a broken sunglass holder. The dealer I bought it from replaced the water pump during the dealer service at 53k miles. This car is the perfect balance of fun and daily driver. It gets phenomenal gas mileage for the performance it offers and really can not be beaten for the price. Favorite car I’ve owned. Went from a focus st and this car is almost as much fun on a back road and a much better car in day to day life.

A great warranty never makes up for poor quality. No one loves having to bring their car into the dealer for the umpteenth time because the car is a POS.
All brand new engines will burn oil in the first 10,000 MI now that the EPA is requiring higher miles per gallon manufacturers have to switch the piston rings to low friction piston rings which allows more oil to be burned in the combustion chamber but seeing how Scotty is such a professional and noses stuff he probably forgot to mention that in this video

110k on my 2016 Golf Sportwagen 1.8TSI (turbo 1.8) and zero issues. If you keep the maintenance up on them and change the oil every 5k or less you should be golden.

Made in Mexico that's why.. My 2012 GTI made in Germany bought it at 75,000 miles and has 113,000 now still runs like a champion. Mind you the clearcoat peeling off on the roof couple of clearcoat bubbles on the hood and rear bumper is going to cost a pretty penny to fix, but all I've had to do is get the oil changed, set of tires and rotation and some little things filters and what not. *knocks on wood*
@@nicksttrs It's not just because it's made in Mexico, it's because it has to be cheap to sell and profit, Scotty said that too. Also, turbo is great, but the engine will wear faster, that's obvious. My Mazda3 2018 is also assembled in Mexico, and I've had 0 problems with the engine, it already has 48,310 miles on it. Major fixes until now: timing belt replacement, new tires, new back brake rotors, 2 front struts. Timing belt and the struts were covered under warranty. I drive that thing "spirited" with sport mode activated 90% of the time.
I’m still sitting happy with my 2015 mini cooper s. Picked it up certified pre owned in 2018 with 15k miles for 17 out the door. Absolutely zero problems with the thing besides when people laugh at me when getting out of it👍
I've owned Volkswagens for almost 30 years. Mostly GTis, and the reason I own them is because they are unbreakable. I currently have a tuned Mk6 GTI with over 140 clicks, and the only thing I've replaced that wasn't maintenance parts was a $147.00 intake manifold that was a CARB part that had an emissions valve that blew out..only because it's tuned mind you. And that happened at around the 90k mark. Replaced with the updates Audi intake manifold and still running strong.
I’ve got a ‘16 CC that I absolutely love. It’s in the shop right now for engine/transmission mounts, alternator, and rear brake pads… $3769. It has 123k miles and this is the only thing I’ve had to do to it. Breathtakingly awesome car. Very best car I’ve ever had/driven.

Certainly sucks having to pay that much, but it also has 123k miles on it and this is the first real repair cost I’ve ever had with it. And aside from that, it’s an absolute joy to drive. Scotty wasn’t kidding about the steering, it’s absolutely phenomenal and it certainly zips lol.

I own a 2020 model, 30k miles so far and no repairs needed. At 30k miles, I don't expect any repairs needed either. These should be mostly reliable. It's a crap shoot with the water pump though. Some go 100k miles on the original pump, some only make it to 20k...
I just bought a 2008 Acura TL with 66,000 miles and I’m happy, lol.
Those are classics and by far the best looking TL and they last over 200,000 miles easy.
My Volkswagen story: I bought an ‘85 GTi brand new…back then they were made in Pennsylvania and I drove that thing until 1999 with a 176k on it. Had two major issues - the heater core went out around 1990 (don’t remember the mileage) and the transmission went out at 156k on a move from Colorado to California - had to tow it back to Salt Lake City and a local V-dub shop dropped a used tranny in it - I flew back from San Jose to SLC to pick it up when the work was done. Other than an oxygen sensor, it was all oil changes and tire rotations. Every time I washed it I had to break out a phillips head and tighten down all the interior trim pieces.
my 2019 S model got 68k miles and only had to do oil changes cabin engine filter swaps a coolant flush and brake pads and disks replacement andddd soon the serpentine belt but this car has given me ZERO serious problems
Got me a 2012 VW Golf 2.5L and i aint had no issues! Love this little car 👍 just need new tires and spark plugs soon and thats it.
They save lives the one reason I like vw I was tboned at 55 mph I walked away without a scratch bruise or break, so vw may be expensive to send in for work but cheap to work on yourself just a complete pain to work on.

I’m happy with my fourth golf 2015 tdi is like new no problems at all previous were diesel 332,000 km ,next one 280,000 km reason for changed ,wrecked in the ice road , both . My car has rust proof guaranteed until 2025 .not even a light bulb had to replace yet.just changed brakes after almost 9 years.
I owned several VW's and most were pretty decent cars, but I never owned one that was made in Mexico. Every one I owned was made in Germany where the quality was decent IMO. My favorite one was my 1978 Rabbit Diesel with a whopping 48 HP engine. Wasn't very fast but it got 55 MPG on the highway.
Louder than Hell, too, but mine was at least ten years old when I bought it. Reeked of cigarette smoke. Poured coffee grounds all in it and hotboxed that for a couple of days. Gas was just under a buck and I could drive forever. Loved that thing!

I have a 7 year old honda CRV and have never added oil except at the oil changes. No other issues except for a recall on the shift lever but honda replaced for free.

I remember the old Jettas when they were the boxy bodies in the 90's. My old neighbor had the Corrado, and that was a great car. He told me that VW made some of the best clutches for a standard transmission.

Own a 2018 Jetta Wolfsburg 5 speed manual. Just over 54,000 miles. New tires(Vredestein-amazing) and regular oil changes. That's it. Plus around 40 mpg.
Vredestein tires are amazing. Just put them on our ‘13 Tiguan. They replaced Bridgestones and the difference in quietness and handling is like night and day.

2018 Golf AllTrack and zero issues so far. 2016 egolf and so far we have never taken it in for service and it costs $15 bucks a month to run. So we are quite happy with both vehicles.

I bought a brand new Jetta in 2018 because it was $19,000 at 0.99% interest. They’re just fun to drive. I admit I bought the warranty, too, lol. I’ve had no mechanical issues in six years, though. It was even simpler, though - 5 speed manual and no push button start, minimal tech. That said, the touchscreen can be a pain.
Worst roads in North America are in Quebec. Uneven pavement, ripples on the road surface, potholes that can be wide and deep, and poor to no road markings as the woke transport dept uses water borne eco paint that has a life of 6-12 months

They burn oil new... For sure. Have a 2014 purchased new, so 11 years old this year. 125k miles. Replaced pcv valve at 90k for $100. 1 brake calipur... and brakes rear at 100k and front at 120k. That's it... even with all those plastic parts. Have the 1.8 litre turbo.
What kind of oil are you running? You never had any issues with the suspension?
Vw in the beginning. But 5W-30 penzoil...for most part, occasional Castrol if it was low and that's what was available.
Can't buy a Corolla with a manual transmission anymore.

I've owned Benz's, BMW's, and VWs...And out of the three...The VW was always the 50/50 chance that something catastrophic would break. Never had issues with those on my Benz's and I had the S-Class, C-class, along with plenty of 3-5 series too many to name. Never once had issues with the former, despite what some people might spew on here.
I'm glad VW has finally taken the steps to work on their reliability issues! I might consider it.
Why the hell do certain manufacturers insist on using low tension piston rings just peeves me off.
Fuel econ is the driver - gov't fleet ave must be met or there's hell to pay.
That was Honda's issue with oil dilution on the 1.5 GDI turbo engine .....but instead of oil leaking past the rings & being burnt, fuel leaked past the rings & into the oil 😬
In Europe, by far the most billions of kilometers are driven annually by cars from the VW group. All companies, state services, taxis, rental companies, private buyers and other owners of vehicles that exceed the maximum number of kilometers per year. And Japanese cars and other brands of vehicles are bought by less demanding drivers with much fewer kilometers, pensioners, a second car in the family for occasional driving, etc.

hell yea! My gf has a 14 JSW TDI with "pothole fix" and Malone stage 2 with 230k and it hasn't had any issues.

I’m a vw tech these engines are very reliable don’t see many engine go out or turbos burning oil is not usally and issue on the newer engines post 2015 older version of this engine burns oil but not the evo3 tiguans do have oil burning issue but very rare cause by bad valve stem seals
