Yes but not always, knot density and pile thickness both add up in the weight. Here in this video, higher weight means higher knot count. But if the rug is heavier because of pile thickness then it does not mean it is the higher quality.
I've actually become a little confused by your videos. Previous videos showed Qum carpets to have uneven fringes where the one along the top were longer, and had a single row of tight small knots. In this video it seems it's OK to have long fringes along the bottom with ornate knotting? I've purchased some very ornate Qum carpets and have doubted there authenticity ever since even after having then authenticated by a local merchant. Mine do have ornate knotting and based on your previous videos I began to believe they are machine made. Very confused at this point. I was going to order another hunting scene one, to complete a set but now very hesitant.
As a follow up I would like to add that the owner Mike reached out immediately after my comment above and I've not had a chance to respond. He was very professional, informative and took his own time to educate me further - rare. Thank you for the reassurance sir!
Thanks for sharing , Mike. The beauty of these rugs is beyond words.
The green one is a real masterpiece
Hi Mike i am wondering if one day a machine can weave a rug that mimics how humans tie knots. That would give a genuine fringe right? Thanks, Andrew.
My second video, thanks a lot’
Wishing you all the best from Fiji 🇫🇯.
Thank you for your kind words and wishing you and your family the very best.
does it mean the heavier, the higher pile silk in Qum rugs? Thank you for showing the video.
