    Good ideas on carpets. Easy way to tell hand-knotted vs machine made is turn it over. If all knots are uniform, straight and exactly the same- it is machine made. The back of hand knotted carpets will always show irregularities.

      Hi, I thought I replied to your email after I received it. The design and workmanship of the Persian rug you have points me to it being a Kashan, but I'm honestly not sure. There is obvious wear on the rug and this design has been used in several carpet weaving areas in Iran over the past century. If this is an important piece for you, check with rug dealers in your area and hopefully they can give you more precise information.

    • @mb7452
      @mb7452 Місяць тому

      Привет! Тебриз - город в Иране, представленные ковры в основном родом оттуда и его окрестностей. Герати, Махи, Хериз и Фарс - названия узоров (в порядке их представления). Подобные узоры ткут и в других городах, но они типичны для традиционных, старых, классических ковров Тебриза. О происхождении узоров можно говорить очень многое, ведь, например, гератскому узору сотни лет, и было бы очень сложно сказать, кто был его первым дизайнером. Извините за гугл-переводчик. // Hello! Tabriz is an Iranian city, the exhibited carpets mainly come from there and its surroundings. Herati, Mahi, Heriz and Fars are the names of the patterns (in the order they appear). Similar patterns are woven in other cities too, but they are typical of the traditional, old, classic carpets of Tabriz. Many things can be said about the origin of the patterns, because the Herat pattern, for example, is hundreds of years old, and it would be very difficult to say who was its first designer. And sorry, Mike that I tried a kind of answer here again. *shy smile*

    When I was growing up in Tehran in the 60s and 70s, I would often see carpets thrown on the street (just east of Tajrish on the way to Niavaran) for cars to drive over. I think they were "antiquing" the rugs to sell to the west.
