Hey Jon, over the past few weeks I've so deeply appreciated how caring and deeply intelligent you guys are. In particular I remember your and Lovett's talks with Tim Miller, in which you both emanated profound warmth and insight. This session with Vivek made me want to tell you that you are all doing a really beautiful job of trying to sustain the sense of empathetic community he speaks of. Thanks tons for your wisdom and stamina. You are what the world needs.

This is so nice to see - they’ve gotten so much sh*t the last 6 months. I totally agree. The pod with Tim made me cry and gave me hope.

How did I miss the episode you refer to with Tim Miller? Any chance you or some other kind soul can link me to it or guesstimate when it came out? The Bulwark and Pod Save America/the World are a lifeline these days. Thanks!

At about 40 mins in Murthy tells a story about his son that is so simple and yet so elegant that I literally had tears in my eyes. I'm so impressed that this is the quality of human we had leading us and so scared for the lack of empathy in the coming administration.

There was a huge car crash in front of my house the other day, without missing a beat, my wife and I grabbed a first aid kit, water, and an emergency flag for me to wave traffic past the car. She took care of the elderly driver while we waited on the real emergency services to show up.
Moments like this are how I know I picked the right person, she cares like I do about complete strangers.
We moved in fairly recently, and since it's a rural area, we hadn't met our neighbors until the crash... when we ALL came out to help together. All neighborhoods should be like this, helping out together even if you don't know eachother.

This is what gives me hope. And while I made many mistakes raising my children I taught them generosity and empathy. They have kind hearts. Sometimes all we can do is show love and kindness and empathy. Thank you for this show.

If you grew up with emotionally disconnected parents, the idea of reaching out to others to see how they are doing makes it seem like quite the challenge, but worth it in the end. Conquer the fear of feelings! ❤️

I had a social group while I was living/working in Europe. Had to move back to the US because of work, and I'm in a literal/figurative desert. When the closest place to find a social group that is not religious or family/kid-oriented is over 80 miles away, online is all I have.

I like this guy. He seems nice. Very gentle and soft spoken.
I kind of blame America's delusional relationship with their so called "free speech" and capitalism at all costs, how that cripples their ability to regulate social media, how that throws a torch on top of a LOT of issues globally, causing death, despair and pain. We'd still have the problems of course... But less for certain.

i'm sorry, i want to like the surgeon general, but i feel the way about this interview how i felt after his nytimes op ed. his POV is coming from SUCH a place of privilege and he doesn't even see it. he talks about "higher ed" and then the "university presidents i speak with." come on. normal people dont' have the level of agency that he seems to think. the average worker cannot make their work place one that better fosters connections. he is talking about the problems of highly successful professionals, which i suppose is fine, but it would be nice to at least hear some acknowledgement of this.

Income inequality drives so many ills social and individual. Direct lines between poverty and psychological stress, family instability, etc etc.
Govt: have you tried a bowling league?
Americans: That had not occurred to us, dude…. (Shows toe in box)
