I miss this team. There was something about them. I am in no way saying that the 2012 Olympic team was bad. It's just something about these 2008 girls' talent and attitude that I really love and miss.
This was one of my favorite mens gymnastics teams, Raj was probably my favorite & I remember Justin Spring pulling out an amazing pommel horse routine, despite it not being his best event.
Kiera Davis lol... yeah, unfortunately the U.S. women's team had some really bad luck/ circumstances with Sam and Chellsie getting injured with either no time to pull in the alternates or the choice made not to. I really wonder what the line up and outcome would have been like with Chellsie and Sam not injured. I'm also curious what the outcome would've been if no mistakes were made, if every team got to use their highest scores from the whole competition in the team finals, and I'm in the process of calculating that and making a video of what it would be.
I know they had bad luck but to be honest the Chinese team was stronger not just on that day but overall. They probably would not have won even if all the girls were healthy. But it certainly would have been very close, but China would probably have edged them out.
I read somewhere recently that there will not be a selection camp for the women's team this year (2012) and that the team is going to be selected directly from the Olympic Trials.
on the 2008 team, there was 7 members and 3 alts. on the 2012 team, there was 5 team members and 3 alts. They keep making the teams smaller so that countries who have less good gymnasts can make a team, instead of missing out because they didn't have enough eligible, valuable, and good gymnasts.
That's right, Alicia.. the tears haven't come yet... I know that's mean, but it was such an easy set up ;) ... she is great obviously, otherwise she wouldn't have the most world medals or have made the team in the first place.
shawn is the best, everytime with a smile in her face i love her
