This melody (Sanie cu zurgalai) was launched in 1937 by Maria Lateretu, made perfect by Maria Ciobanu later and the Romanian gymnasts won gold medals with it. You can find it in different versions here on UA-cam and was sang by Vaya Con Dios, too, the belgian singer !
She spoke out on how she was beaten in the background of this type of events by her coach…..great athlete, horrible coach….she performed perfect considering the real fear for her life if she failed….. the Romanian athlete
Emilia was indeed a terrific athlete who was internationally ranked on bars and beam--but never really showed to full advantage on floor as the Karolyis insisted on her performing in a "bubbly" style that didn't suit her.

Mary Lou's routine was so exciting! I still get pumped watching it, knowing the pressure that she was under. LOVE it!
